Well good to know it isn't just me that it seems harder. I was worried I somehow miscalculated what I do outside lol! I doubt the mapping option is wrong though.
Still feeling my shins and have to slow up to a speed of 3 for an interval or two - hope it's gone soon.

Yes I have an incline, but it doesn't state where it is at. So I put it all the way up (level), then hit the button a few times.

Ran 30 minutes last night, it was great!!!

Hey Bailey, what kind of dreadmill do you have? Does it have an incline option? If it does, just go to 1, and you are golden.

Lizzie, I am with you!! I also go slower, but I think it is because I get bored, can't get my mind out of the game.

Have an amazing christmas everyone:)

A 10 minute mile seems so much faster on the treadmill than outside for me. I always go slower on the treadmill.

ROFL John!!! I love that you are running free!!!!

Me and dreadmill...yeah, NO! But I do have it on a 1.5 incline if I am going to have to do a run on it.

Cheers,
T

I'm impressed! It's hard enough for me to walk at 10 let alone run emoticon

I have only had to run on the Tmill once this season and I'm so glad. Our cold season has been pretty mild so far.

Merry Christmas and Happy Running!

I haven't tried higher than 5% lol I have only adjusted speed to challenge myself. Perhaps to change things up I will try incline!

Ok so technically I am doing a harder run then because I am doing 5% incline not 1%. So when I do get back to running outside my time should better.

I did treadmill for 1 month 3x a week 5% incline and then I mistakenly left it at 1% incline for one workout. It was very easy so I kept my speed at 6. I normally challenge myself doing 2 min intervals between 5 and 6 speed. I didn't realize my mistake until 45 minutes in. For a week after that, I had sharp shin pain and had to scale back and take rest breaks at a speed of 3 a few times to make it to my 60 minutes! Think I will stick to my 5% incline!

yes Adrian thinking without borders here emoticon

if 2 people followed exact same training program, except one on TM other on road
both ran the same road race would result = same?
could never prove it because it would have to be exact same person performing even then would be at a later date

MADJIK:
Lower the incline of your TM. VO2 consumption at any given pace on the TM is only equivalent to road VO2 when the TM is at 1%.

Or, you could run faster at 0% incline which is what I do because I can't stand running uphill all the time. For any given road PE, I find that I need to speed up ~6s/mile to match.

As a person who doesn't mind the treadmill - since I live in PNW - it rains alot and I am not a big fan of running in the rain - ok with cold temps - but rain a different story. You need to set the incline to 1-1.5 degrees to be the same as a level outside. so if your are going uphill outside it needs to be higher.

I change speeds and change elevation to make it interesting and make sure there is a game on!

I would rather run outside but sometimes we just can't do it. good luck to everyone...

treadmill should be at 1% to simulate outside. if you normally run a 10 min mile then set the treadmill to push you. i agree it is harder on the mill but part of that is mental. i get outside in all conditions....

I measure my pace on the treadmill by my heart rate. Whatever my normal heart rate is when running outdoors, I match it on the treadmill. Even doing this, the treadmill still shows me running slower and it drives me crazy! That's why I stay away from the treadmill as much as possible :)

It might be your incline. I have read that a 1% incline on the treadmill is enough to emulate outside. Try only 1% incline and see how you do.

I find the same thing... My time is always better outside than on a treadmill. I think we go faster because we are not having our speed preset for us and we can run as fast or as slow as I want.

I kinda think of treadmills as a necessary evil... I much prefer running outside but sometimes it just isn't that easy.

Ok I thought the treadmill would be easier but it seems it isn't?? When I map my outside runs it comes in at 8 miles in 60 minutes but on the treadmill it only registers 5-6 in the same amount of time. I run 5-6 speed and going faster is too hard. I use an incline of 5%.
Why is my mileage so much worse on the treadmill?
