I'm not exactly sure for a 5k personally, but I have an article by Jeff Galloway (a running expert) that says for a 5K your last long run should be 7-10 days b4 race and you should reduce training 7 days b4 race (run easy every other day). if you search "running taper tips" or a variety of that, you should get some good articles. GOOD LUCK!! emoticon

That's great - CONGRATULTIONS!!! That is good time. Currently my time is a little slow - as I still have to walk/jog, but I joined a running group that works at many different paces so I'm looking forward to improving my time. WAY TO GO!!! emoticon

I'm actually running a 5k for my daughter's school on 10/14, Run for the Cure is in Baltimore on 10/21, and I have been thinking of joining in. 2 of my co-workers are going to walk it.
Any advice on training the week before up to the day before the run?
I have walked/run 5k's before, but this will be my first time completly running the distance for a long time. (since high school cross country) I have been training consistantly, mostly on treadmill, but have occasionally run outside.
I'd appreciate any advice.

HI all, I ran my first outdoor run today by participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure. I did the 5km in 30min,12sec. My personal best. We were in Collingwood Ontario. I don't know how many people, but as a group they raised $95,000.00.

Check with a local running store - they might be able to direct you. If not, you could just set the goal of running the same day. It is always fun to set a goal and reach it. But it'd be great to find a local race for the cure, so at the same time you could raise funds.

Good for you. I was told by a personal trainer that if you are a treadmill runner and you will be running on pavement, you should run at an incline of .5 to help simulate road conditions. Keep us posted on your training and how the race goes :)

Good luck w/ your 5K! Let me look around the Twin Cities to see if there is a formal race or if I would need to join you from a workout perspective!

Hi Oceandeco, I am doing a "Run for the Cure" on October 1st in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. This will be my first outdoor 5k. I am a devoted treadmill runner.

HI guys. I just completed my first tri-athlon this weekend and sooo hooked on going to these group events. There is so much energy and it is VERY motivating. I'm joining a local running "class" starting this weekend and our first group race is the Race for the Cure on 10/21. Anyone else want to do a 5k that day - even if you don't have a local race happening? emoticon
