While I have hardly lost any weight since I started running, I have gone from barely being able to squeeze into a size 20 jeans to being able to squeeze into most size 10's . I still can not figure out how I could shrink so much and not loose weight, but..... i've also noticed muscle definition in my legs.
But what's been the best affect of the running is my sanity. I actually have a little bit now! LOL I feel SO much calmer & happier. The PMS craziness is virtually gone and the migraines that used to be a weekly event are basically gone. And on top of all that, the running has motivated me to eat healthier. I can feel the difference between eating my veggies and eating a bunch of junk food when I run. I've been amazed at how my body reacts to various foods and when I'm tempted to eat badly, I think about how it will effect my next run and I almost always choose the good-for-me foods.
Another benefit of running - all the new people you get to meet. I joined a local running club and I can not get over how friendly and outgoing all the other runners are. And rather than poking fun of me for being a pathetically slow newbie, they all encourage me and each other. I've been amazed at how upbeat and positive they all are. I belong to several other social groups and most of those gatherings are spent with everyone complaining about what ever. Not the runners! They are all upbeat, happy, energetic and supportive of each other.
And of course, it's always SO cool when you get to casually mention that today is a short run day and you are ONLY running X number of miles. :) What an ego boost that is!!
