I had this a few months ago and freaked out. I thought I was having a heart attack or something because the chest pain was insane and then it would make my left side tingle. I exercise a lot and the doctor told me it'd go away in under a month. I applied ice in the beginning but after that I relied on icyhot patches under my shirt for the next 2 weeks. With losts of rest, it finally cleared up. Fortunately, I haven't had it since, but once you get it, it's most likely it will occur again.

I, too, have had it (twice)... the last episode lasted for about 2 months but I was not running at the time (over 10 years ago). I also was told it may have been caused by a chest cold I developed but the doc couldn't say for certain. But I do remember it being quite painful...was told once you have it you are more susceptible of getting it again.

I wish you a speedy recovery.
Nancy

Thanks,
I am sooo looking forward to getting rid of this!!! I have had this for about 2 weeks now but went running last sunday because I actually thought it could be related to a change in the insoles of my sneakers and so have had a bit of a flare up...should be operation soon, plus I will now start taking Naproxen and applying heat to the area...

I had it -- and also was worried about the chest pain and relieved to find out what it was. I wasn't exercising at the time. It was a long time ago, but I think I remember the doc saying that it was caused by/related to having a cold. And it hasn't come back!

I had one rib that did it in my back, with massage and treatment it took about 3 weeks. Mind you it was only 1 rib in the midback not the sternum.

Hi to all,
Finally my chest pain has been determined. After having gone through several lab tests, CT scan, ultrasound, Xray I was told that I had an inflammation of the cartillage where the rib joins the sternum.
I have been told to stay away from running until the symptoms go away completely and am will be seeing a sports medicine orthopedist just to rule out any imbalances that might have triggered the onset.
I am not happy but at least I know I don't have a problem with any internal organs....
Has anyone had this? If so how long did it take to clear? Did it come back (I was told that it might or not)?
