I had some time off, so down the road I went for a bike ride looking for birds, bears, and flowers.
I think a dogwood tree flower
salmon berry flower maybe?

me enjoying some of my 30 for 30 time outside this month partaking in the David Suski challenge

The great blue herons and the night herons have come back to our campground in Oak Harbor. They were hanging around the fish cleaning stations looking for a handout. Went birding Sat and Sunday at Magee. Still no warblers. Saw gray gnatcatchers and Goldfinches. A few Coots and Mallards. Snowy Egrets, Eagles, and tons of red wing blackbirds were present.

Went birding at Magee Marsh....Oak Harbor Ohio. The only thing I found was an earache....lol It was cold and super windy. Seriously though I did see one yellow rump warbler, a gnatcatcher, various waterfowl and the usual common birds for the area. a few more weeks the warblers will descend and there will be thousands of people there!

I don't hear any birds singing yet - I am up before the birds.... No - it is cold here at camp yet I think they are still huddled together some place warmer.
Waking up with sore backs my wife and I. The bed mattress is horrid. I am thinking about placing it on the floor direct get it off the old the old metal frame. Do you think this will help?
Should we use the box spring?

Not a lot of hking done today. walked around the park with Dalhouise. Walked to the plaza and back again pushing a little cart.. I had to go buy a new car battery. When I came back from our bike adventure in Surrey I accidentally left the dome light on and so the next day I had a very dead battery. I called the motor club and got a boost.. Dave around for an hour and let the car idle for about half an hour.. Turned it off and went to bed. Next day I go try to start the car it is a no go.. Battery is dead again. I had inklings that it was going before and I think this was the last straw with the dome light left on. Thus the walk to go buy a new battery.. Once I got the batter home the plumber was just about to leave from doing a job here on site.. ( do you remember my last month plumbing bills) well I asked him if he would help me change the battery as I don't have tools.. He agreed - nice guy...
The car works now and so we drove got some groceries and I bought a new hand held GPS.
Remember my GPS died when I tried to turn it on on the bike trip to Surrey. I need to have a GPS for Mexico in five days from now..
I didn't buy a better one - same brand and company as the one I had because it was on sale. Discontinued .. So I got it for 89 dollars.. Regular I see was 199.$. I just didn't want to spend so much money right now. Need it for our vacation and property taxes and ultiities tax coming due in the nex 60 days.
Hopefully it will work ok for a year or so..

Today I feel like I accomplished something .. Checking the bank account early I found to my delight that the income tax refund was in.. Hurray... So I was able to pay off the visa and put some money in our RRSP s for next year tax breaks and some into our savings... Then I went and did some banking for my mother at the bank and while I was there I put some money into one of my account to pay for my life insurance policy that is due in April. Next it was a stop at Service Canada to print out the application for my wife's permanent resident card that is due this year and then over to Walmart to get pictures for this application. Did a stop at the drug store to get a copy of Mom's prescriptions tax report receipt and then a drive to the accountants office so that Mom can get her taxes done. Earlier in the day I collectd all her receipts and papers. Now it is out of my hands - hers is more complicated than mine and so I did not want to make mistakes.
I walked Dalhouise to the post office where I mailed a couple of postcards and bought some stamps and postcards already stamped so that I can mail more. (Hint)

The rain has startd here.. It was nice while it lasted - sunny weather..
Last night out of character for Noni and I - we met with camp staff to eat out tougher. We met at an Indian restaurant. I have been wanting to check it out for a few years but Noni has always refused as she said she was not too fawn about this style of food.. Well finally we went. She ate her portions.. I ate my fill. I thonk I will take my mom here at some point in the not to far future. The price is average - it cost me fifty dollars for the two of us.. However I am not minding it so much as I did enjoy eating goat curry stew... Rice, Nana bread, lamb k bob, and chicken k bob, and noni had chicken curry. With that I washed it all down with chai tea made with milk.
Talking and listening to the camp younger staff... It was good .. I think we are going to start the year off on a good right foot.. We have a temporary new office girl too and hopefully this will help us start well together - as the office staff and I some times have these little major conflicts. It was a good time of fellowship - and I was able to make them laugh a coule of times by being just me.. I am a strange one at times - I am old enough to be their fathers.. Noni their mothers.

My body is still sore a day after the scrubbing of the kitchen. I cleaned everything including the ceilings, walls and all table surfaces and shelving.
The hardest part now is knowing I have to go back in and reclean it all before I actually start cooking and serving.
Dalhouise is away at the groomers.. I took him out for an early morning walk and then dropped him off. He was so sad and tried to dart out the door escaping from the hug of the groomer when I approached the door. Poor little guy.. He knows..
Now I am home and the house is so empty without him.. I miss him .. Crazy eh!

After dropping Dalhouse off I walked downtown Squamish to the secondhand flea market. I went in and asked if they had any postcards.. The man behind the counter said maybe and pulled out a bundle over four inches high. What I could see - the date of some postage stamps are 1926
I ask how much.. He was not sure.. We browsed through them and he said I could have them all for 25 dollars - I said I have a twenty .. He said OK and I walked out with a bundle of older postcards..
Not sure yet haven't done due dillgence ... But one quick view on Google is that one set is worth 15 dollars alone. And I have several.. So I may have lucked out big time... Regardless I am happy with my growing collection.

Thank you

Going to work.. I havent said that in awhile. But tomorrow morning I must wake up and get ready to go to work. Over the winter the kitchen has grown a covering of mould to keep warm I guess. So before the fire inspector comes in, before the maintence man can come in and repair broken pipes, before the fridge maintence company comes in to do a cleaning -- I must come in and remove the mould..
Wonderful...
Today I went and bought a safety mask because I am going to wash the kitchen with bleach..
I have a solid day of scrubbing to do.. I am going to be so tired tomorrow night...

Made time ths day to take the car into the service center for its spring semi annual maintence and winter tires removal.. Shopping for the supplies to cook Mac and cheese for fifty people at church Sunday and to go for a two and half hour bike ride and a visit with Mom. I guess it was a successful day... I even BBQ supper for Noni and I. I did some birding while riding our bikes and came across this unknown duck.. It looks like a Mallard hybrid cross with either a Green wing Teal or Wigeon..

supper BBQ

almost got stopped

spring is here

must not forget winter

come on

Dalhouise next week goes to the groomers

I'm getting my taxes done on the 20th. I have someone do mine for me. I don't know if I will get out for some more birding this weekend or not. This week at work has been super busy and I am ready for some down time.

Time ... I had so much of it that it seemly stood still. Now the days are beginning to go faster and faster. Yes there is a bump in the race track.. My trip to Mexico can't come fast enough.
However last night I did my taxes for 2014 - been putting it off ... but last night I filed them.
Last week I had my eye appointment and this week picked up my new glasses.
Today I made the appointment at the garage to have my car receive it's semi annual maintence done and snow tires taken off. Next week Dalhouise will be going to the groomers.
Before the end of the month I need to take Mom to Vancouver....
Once work begins I won't have many opportunities during the day to get away from work. I need to cook breakfast, lunch, supper..
So as we put all our ducks in their row.... there are so many little things that need to be done before we move from thenCondo to the little cabin in the woods and Work.

I think the purchase of the bike rack might be my best decision in a long time. It is easy to put on and take off the car. More importantly is the fact that it is extremely easy to load the bikes onto it and off.
As I drove down the highway I kept an eye in the rear view mirror making sure the bikes were still with us. Stress.. But no need to be fretting about that.. When we arrived at our designation about 43 miles from home.... All was well - fastened just as I left home.

The day was cold and overcast, but there were no uphills to deal with. Yesterday's ride was more up than down and Noni did not like it at all - I was not too happy either but I took it in stride figuring I was burning more calories going up. However it sure was pleasant driving along flat dikes and seeing the sights.

This day was suppose to be sunny and 17c ... I don't know what happened because it was cold and overcasted and slightly windy. The good thing was I was dressed for it.. I was chided by my wife when we left home from Squamish, that I was overly dressed.. I proved to be the one warm and cozy as we biked today in Steveston. I have been wanting to do this now for a few years and with our new bike rack - this was the day to do so with the false pretences of a hot sunny day getting me going. Of course I had the GPS - I get to geocache and bike and do some birding all in the same day... Can life get any better? I ask myself.
The only thing that made it better.. I actually found some caches, and seen some birds and the riding was not all uphills. Life is so good.

I went to a state park on Saturday to look for birds. I only saw a few chickadees and crows. I also got a few shots of deer.

So I bought the bike rack but so far it remains inside my car. But that is ok because I did go for a hour walk with the Dalhouise and then this afternoon went biking riding with my wife for two hours. Man there is a lot of up hills compared to the down hills.
In the sun it was very warm - but the shaded areas sure were cooler.. Should I wear my jacket or not... One moment I was too hot then I was chilled to the core. For awhile I took off my outer heavy jacket and tried to pedal to keep warm but that wind.
Oh that wind howled in my ears... Litteraly howling so loud .. and cold on my chest and stomach.. So back on went my jacket - and it felt so warm and cozy.

What happened to yesterday? I don't know.. I did go,for a Dalhouise walk, I went to my appointment to the eye doctor for my annual four year check.. Yes I was scolded for that he wants to see me every two years. I went now because I know I needed new reading glasses..no choice. Then the day was gone..
Today I have plans to go to Vancouver .. I was asked by my employer to go pick up at the kitchen supply place the new sink and tables he ordered. My kitchen is getting a face lift.. Hurray! Since I want to get some new pots and other trinkets, I will gladly go especially since he is paying for the gas and items..
I will also stop in at one of the supper stores to buy some food for the men's breakfast I was asked to cook for. I have said no on a couple of occasions ... But the man who was going to do it made other plans and backed out after the church organized this function ... So in desperation they asked me to help -- what can I do? I said yes.. And so now I must shop and prepare this meal. Tomorrow about thirty men will be coming - that is not so bad - but the churches kitchen sucks... That makes it difficult to cook..
I have decided to cook and serve .. Oatmeal - bacon - sausage - hashbrowns - Eggs probably scrambled and pancakes. My wife will make cinnamon buns for me to bring later today.

I need to get ready - gotta go to camp to pick up the camp van as my car is too small for the new tables and sink.. I will bring Dalhouise with me so he can run a it before I bring him back home and pick up Noni. Then into the big city we go..
Have a good day everyone.

this morning went for a quick walk around the beach, then ...

Today the family - Noni and Dalhouise and I went shopping in Vancouver, eating at our now not favorite restaurant and then hiking with a mission to locate a geocache. Lighthouse Park - a beautiful place but our hearts were going thump thump, thump .. Up up up the trail went, then we took this other path that was not a main trail but the GPS said to go that way.. It was up and over bare rock where both Noni and Dalhouise slipped.. Then we had to go down this slippery steep path that almost didn't seem even like a trail.. Eventually we came upon a large trail .. We walked on giving up the idea of finding a cache as the distance now was indicating further away, and we were not going to turn back I that route we just came from. Just hiked on enjoying the sun and wilderness until we came to the shoreline of the coast.
I have been here before so I knew where we had to go to get back to the car ... Off we go.
Once we arrived at the paring lot I give Noni the keys and tell her to rest with Dalhouise as I wanted to go look for this cache one more time. I move at a fast pace back to the General location of cache where we had became disoriented ... I stop to catch my breath... And the GPS begins to settle down - I am about ten feet from it. I look high and low and zap there it is.

It was a good day

Did you know you can now add pictures to your posts? There is a button to click that says "add an image" above when posting. Hope you post some the birds you have seen.

I just put out some seed, suet, ears of corn, and peanuts for the birds and squirrels. I thought the sparrows would be at the feeds within minutes. No birds yet, but I did get a squirrel or 2.

I am so excited that my best friend that I've known since high school has just gotten bitten by the birding bug! Not sure what made her get into birding all of sudden, except for having a new camera. She has been posting lots of pics on facebook. She is sending me pics to id them for her. I love teaching her about the birds and we plan on having a get together to go birding and to shop for bird supplies. She lives 2.5 hrs from me, but makes for a quick weekend trip to get out of the city for a few days.

Yesterday I finally went to the George Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta BC. It was a fabulous day birding. The drive getting to it was not the most pleasant but all was forgotten in the joy of seeing so many birds, including three lifers.
I went hoping to see the Sandhill Crane, ( I did) but I also saw the Great Horned Owl and the Black crowned Heron.. Just amazing. My listed bird seen for the day ---- Trumpter Swans, American Coots, American Widgeons, Northern Pintails, Rock Doves, Euraisan Doves, Robins, Starlings, Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Spotted Towhees, Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Black capped Chickadees, Red wing Blackbirds, Great Blue Heron, Northern Shovelers, Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergansers , Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, Golden crown Kinglets, Anna Hummingbirds, Cooper Hawk, Bald Eagles, and Greater and Lesser Scaups.
I think that includes my list of the day - like I said it was a fabulous day.

I contacted my friend who has been posting pictures of the Great Gray Owl. At first he was hesitant of telling me where.. Must have felt guilty because he called me late last night and gave good directions of where he has been seeing it. I wake up several times in the night with anticipation because of this new information. Up at six am - I am out the door just before seven and on the trail by 0710 hr hours. I walk with much hope building and failing as I begin to think I won't see it. I turn my head and there it is... I get two quick pictures before it flies away.. I am so pleased, so full of joy.... I seen it, that is all I needed and a picture as proof.
Later in the morning when walking with my wife we seen it again and Once again I was able to quickly snap a few more photos. I am a happy happy camper...

If I wasn't on my way to work this morning, I would have stopped as I saw an eagle perched in a tree and then I am assuming it was the mate was flying a little further down the road. I really wish I had time to go birding and that it would be warmer and I also wish I had a great camera.

Out the door to drive to the Estuary.. I have heard reports that a Great Grey Owl has been spotted in the area. People are being careful not to mention the exact spot.. So I went hiking at dusk last night two trails and then this morning I went out again and rehiked the two and another one. The last trail looked more promising with many ever green trees. No luck..
Nevertheless I enjoyed the hike.
It is a strange feeling last night walking in the woods in darkness. Oh the thoughts of bears, cougars, wolves and other things that go bump in the night..... That entered my mind..
Then I began thinking about the people who are about to through hike the PCT trail or the Appalachian trail. Months of wandering in the wilds - that would be scary..

Spent several hours walking and sitting in Vancouver. Chinese New Year parade brought us to the big city and then we walked around afterwards looking and investigating different markets. Who needs to travel thousands of miles to get a taste of China when it is right in your backyard. On the other hand... This is only a taste of the real thing thousands of miles away - just wetting the appetite - a tease. Hmmmm I wonder if a future vacation to China should be in the making or not.

Since I am new to kayaking, I am keeping to calmer water. I have only gone on 1 small river and a creek that is really nice for going through a city. You never would have through you were in the city. I am going to try this year going out to the bigger river, Maumee River, and Maumee Bay, which is part of Lake Erie. I live in Toledo, Ohio. I've been on the lake lots of times, but in bigger boats. Not sure how I will like it in a kayak. I belong to a kayaking group that has equipment that I can use and also have the experienced kayakers be around. Met some nice people through the group.

It is snowing once again, but not near as cold today as it has been the last week. I want to get out and do some birding, but the roads are bad for where I want to go.

I walk past the calm Waters on the ocean and I wish I could go get my kayak and do a little paddling... But ever since I lost my wife's kayak and endangered my life and dog - I haven't the same love to get back on the water just yet.. I will eventually. But not just yet....

I should had gone for the car ride to Vancouver or Whistler! If saving money was the goal.
We went for our bike ride but that did not prevent a stop to do some shopping... Our tires were a little low so I stopped at them community center that has a little bike repair corner to pump up our deflated tires. The pump was broken - more air went out of the tire than what went in. Still enough to ride further to where we bought them last year... So off we ride tomthen bike shop.
As quick as you can say one two three I have purchased Noni a nice new pink basket, an odometer and a new U lock. Leaving the store 30 minutes later I was two hundred dollars less.
Ouch...
From there we can continued to ride around the village - over and around to the beach area and then eventually back home. From the reading of the new odometer IT said 13.5 km.
I estimate between three and four Km to the bike shop from our place. So this would be about 18 k in total. 10 miles.roughly.

How I wish I could see long grass and take a bike ride and cannot wait to kayak! Right now we have below zero wind chill temps. Probably hit a record today of -16 or -18 for this date here in Ohio. Down right frigid this morning!! Figure another 2 months and it should be starting to get nice. The only thing I can say for the cold, is that it is bright and sunny, but its looks are very deceptive.

I have been out for a walk this morning with a couple of friends, now I have to decide what to do this afternoon. It is sunny and warm. I see effects of wind blowing the tree branches and long grass growing in my flower pots - so I am debating whether or not I should go for a bike ride. Noni wants to get out of the house.. I could drive to Whistler or Vancouver but this will cost gas money and most likely money spent shopping as well. I want to save some money so I don't particuly want to do either of those last two options. Noni is pasting around the house so I know she is very bored.
So I thnk it will be a bike ride.. After all it is sunny and warm - the rains will be coming back too soon..

It has been too cold here in Ohio to go out and birdwatch. Either that or we are having bad weather.

The sun is shining and it is very warm out. I went for a morning walk with Dalhouse and a friend from church then I came home and suggested to my wife's that we drive to West Vancouver.
My friend told me about Ambleside Park that has a pond with lots of birds. Blue Herons, Swans, Ducks, Teals, Spottd Towhees, House Sparrows and Gulls. He was correct. I brought a container of bird seed and Noni was so happy to feed the hungry flock. Then we went walking and walking and walking along the Seawall.
We had made a quick stop at the mall where I bought a new pair of shoes, lunch and some groceries.
I thnk this will help in breaking the February Blues - cabin fever..

Finally went to Wallmart and bought the Niger seed sock. Hung it and now I wait to see if any finches or Siskins come to feed.
And - last night we boiled some sugar and water.. This morning early I hung a hummingbird feeder. I think it is early... But last week I did have a lone hummingbird come and check out my sunflower feeder that is red. So if he came once he might still be around and I would be pleased to feed him.

While buying the sock ... I bought a couple of gifts for my wife .. Don't forget Valentine's Day

It's Almost Bird Count Time!

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) begins this Friday, February 13! Count birds for just 15 minutes, or count all 96 hours until the end of Monday—just be sure to count!

The GBBC broke records in 2014—with more than 140,000 people from 135 countries counting more than 33 million birds. Help us achieve even bigger numbers this year!

Read the GBBC 2015 preview—including the latest on winter finch movements and international birding expectations—on our All About Birds blog. Then get ready to count later this week. Registration is free and easy. If you've counted in the GBBC since 2013 or if you participate in another Cornell Lab citizen-science project, you're already registered...just count and have fun!

I went to Lowe's last night and found bird seed on sale, I think they were getting rid of it, and got 20 lbs for $2.74! I ended up buying 4 bags (80 lbs). Should last me a long time.

I did, DH helped me...I don't think my count this year was as big as last year, but then last year we walked along Elizabeth lake for about an hour. This year we didn't have time to do that.

I thought I would post on this thread today, but will post on our usual thread...What birds have you seen today?.

I just looked at the weekly digest we get and noticed nobody posted last week. We all must be too busy to notice the nature around us.

Hope everyone is doing ok and will be posting soon...including me!!

The company I work for is a huge pharmaceutical company and we are just one tiny tiny part of it. There are only 6 of us in this facility. I just hate the thought of moving if I have to. I love my house and where it is, but maybe it is telling me it is time for change. I did find a few jobs listed and will try to fill out appls on line in the next couple of days.

I will be busy this week as I have doctor appts and then my surgery on Friday (Feb 3rd). I will be off work for 2 weeks, so I should have time then to send out resumes, etc.

My Hubby's company moved back to N.J. He has been of work almost 2 months. I hear ya about being scared. I would start looking for another job. If something comes along then that is great, if not, then hopefully the co. you work for now will offer a severance. Most companies do, but I don't know how big your co. is. It's tough out there.

I forgot to post an update, but I did have a call back from this group. The job only pays $8/hr and no benefits. They provide the dog and training. I did tell the woman I spoke with that I will be losing my job at the end of the year and the big difference in pay would hurt, so I am passing it up for now. I asked about "shadowing" someone and she said she would call me back in the fall and maybe I could do it part-time. They busy season of course is in the spring and fall. July the geese molt and they don't bother with them since they can't fly, so they do their selling to clients during that time. If I didn't have to worry about money, I would have taken the job!!

If I didn't post this earlier, I found out that my job along with 5 others will be gone at the end of the year. We just found this out on Jan 10th. They are moving the operations to Chicago. I really don't want to move there and not sure what to do at this point. Do I stay until they close or do I start looking for a different job. I rather get a start on it and not have to worry later. I don't know if I would still get a severance package or not. So many questions not answered at this point. Scared about it...YES!! I am barely making ends meet as it and being on unemployment won't cut it. I may end up losing my home if I cannot find a decent paying job...equal to what I am getting now at least.

It is a very small company in northern Ohio and work in my county. It only has about 5 or 6 people working for this guy. The ad said entrepreneurial, so that would probably mean not much pay and no benefits. But yes, does't hurt to try.

I found the perfect job posted in the paper the other day. It was for geese control. What is was if for a skilled dog handler. They use border collies to patrol property to chase geese off them. I would love to work with dogs and wildlife. It would kill 3 birds with one stone...work outdoros and work with dogs and wildlife. I sent my resume in, although I am not a skilled dog handler, but I do have dogs and I am working towards my degree in Environmental Science with an emphasis in biology!

I will let everyone know how things go on Weds. I am not too worried about the test as it is only on what we learned in the last couple weeks of class. Of course, last Tues I missed a class but got a few notes from another student. Not sure how much it will help me on those questions. I have to look back through my notes on a video we watched to make sure I wrote something down that she put on the study guide. I can probably find the video on youtube....I hope!! Then she likes to ask questions about current events, so I hope I know the answers to that too!

Good luck with the big test Kim, and I hope the results from your surgery is good news. I'm glad your getting this done though, and not ignoring the problems.

Just got done with my writing project for class (I went back to school this fall) and next Tues is my final test. Then on Weds I will be having outpatient surgery to see if I have cancer or not (uterine or ovary). I've been having issues and the blood levels were up for the CA-125 test for cancer. Not looking forward to the surgery, but looking forward to getting a diagnosis to see what the next step is.

Christmas shopping is pretty much done, may need to get one more thing. I will spend Christmas Day up at my brother's house. Christmas Eve will be at my mom's.

This year did fly. We aren't having a big Christmas this year since my Hubby just got laid off. So our Christmas shopping is done except for my Hubby's Great Nephews. There are only 2 so not much more to buy. We go to my SIL on Christmas Eve., then we will have Christmas dinner, just the 3 of us. Probably visit with my neighbors across the street. How bout you?

I thought the stew turned out good. It is different, more a sweeter than savory with the apple cider. My one sister didn't like it because of the bay leaf or fresh thyme you cook with, but take out before serving. We had something one other time that called for bayleaf and it does give it a funky flavor. I have 2 dishes of leftover, so I know what I will be having for dinner tonight and later this week. OH and the pork turned out really nice and tender. I roasted the left over porkloin and shredded it and put BBQ sauce over it. Yummy...sandwiches. I have some crusty loaf bread that I used with the stew. I guess it will be a pork week.

I just need to quit eating all the other crap this week. I have gained a couple of pounds. I think it is stress from starting school and I feel like I've done nothing but eat. I wasn't tired until later in the evening and could stay awake and fell asleep on the couch. I ended up going to bed earlier that usual and slept until 8:30 this morning.

I could not fall asleep last night and was up until about 4am. I ended up getting up and frying my meat for the stew I was making for todays lunch with my mom and sisters. I ended up getting up at about 9:30am. I had to rush to cut up the veggies and putting it all together in the crockpot to cook. I hope it gets done by 12:30pm. I have it on high, so it should be. I made Rachel Ray recipe, Autumn Stew. It is pork tenderloin, apples, cranberries, onions, carrots, and celery. The liquid is chicken broth and apple cider. Yum!!

I hope I can stay awake. I need to start studying for my first exam on Thursday and have new homework for my other class I need to work on.

I can post some pictures of them. It is kind of fun chasing them around hoping they will land on a flower and sit still long enough to take a picture. I didn't get pictures of the cabbage white and wood nymph as they don't stop often. I did try to get one of they nymph, but then I would scare it and it would fly off.

I took advantage of the much cooler weather to do my butterfly monitoring at the park. It is in the 70's today and less humid. I spotted 4 different species and spooked a deer.

Good news too today! My doctors office left me a message saying my blood work came back normal, but didn't leave me the counts as to what my cholesterol and sugar was, so I am going to have to call back for those. I would like to know just for my own knowledge, but also need it for a health assessment I need to do for work. So my question is why do I feel so crappy! I suppose it is partly depression and lack of exercise. So I need to get moving again. I did feel pretty good during my walk at the park today!

Yesterday was terribly humid. 79 degrees felt like 99. Today wasn't as bad but still hot. We had some tstorms this week that gave us some rain. Not sure how much it helped the crops, but the weeds are growing. I did mow my grass, first time in probably 2-3 weeks. The has turned green again. I had to make sure the birds had water too!

NP Kim. I agree, electives might be a good way to start. You can get back into the swing of things without to much pressure. Hope they let you do that. Sorry not all of your credits would go through, but at least some did. It's been hot here too. emoticon

Hi Everyone! I hope everyone is surviving the heat wave. It reached 102 degrees today, but the heat index was between 115-120, I believe. Pretty much stayed indoors the last couple of days, but today was the highest temp so far. A little cool down is due tomorrow, but only a few degrees. I watched a couple of robins in a tree this morning and they were just panting, so I made sure there was water in the bird bath. I did see someone used it and there were splash marks on the driveway.

I have a feeling I may be busy over the next couple of months or years....I am going back to school and was looking at some of the class schedules and some are almost every day. I may end up just starting off with one class. Not sure yet. I am trying to contact a professor, who is a student advisor, to figure out what I should start off with. I think I would rather get some of the easy stuff out of the way, like the electives they say I have to have. Only a few of my previous credits transferred. I was hoping for more. Oh well.

So if I am not around, you know I am at school and/or studying. I will try to chime in when I can even if it is a quick post!!

We will be about 105 tomorrow, and this week-end. It is raining in No. Calif., and I see clouds off in the distance, but I don't think we will get any rain. Hope TX. doesn't get hit any harder!

Not much going on here. In the 80's today and the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 90's. I am hoping to be out on a boat in Lake Erie this weekend. Been really busy with getting my mom home and taking care of here. My oldest sister came into town and is now doing that, so it gives the rest of us a break for a while. Since she is with constantly, we are hoping that she will be up and moving without a walker in no time. At least she has gotten her appetite back and is eating more.

We (South Texas) has been getting rain finally - actually it's
coming down to fast and some places are having flooding issues.

Now we have the feeder bands from Tropical Storm Arlene.
I got caught in several yesterday on my way to and from the
dentist (an hour away).

Keeps my exercise up by mowing the lawn!!

But the mosquitoes?? wow they are many and huge

They said we were to get some rain yesterday, but it pretty bypassed us. It did see in one small area on my way home where it did rain. Today we are probably going to have a better chance of rain. Looks like on the weather map a long line of thunderstorms heading this way. Won't be here until mid day.

I heard Texas was in a drought. We are in our dry season right now. Hopefully the fall and winter will have good rain again this year.

We had a little rain on Friday, first time in a couple of weeks. They are forcasting some rain this week, but not much. I really can't wait to get my pipe fixed that goes to my faucet outside so I can have some water to water my plants. They need water.

We are in our dry season. In the 80's. I hope your Jay's come back. We have Scrub Jays here. I really enjoy them. I put out peanuts, and sliced almonds for them daily!

It has been a very soggy spring here in Western Washington! But have tried to get outside when I can.
Love hearing the robins singing in the morning.
Does anyone know what has happened to our Stellar Jays?

For the most part, this morning was dry with a few sprinkles. I was able to mow my grass which was about 6-8 inches long. I will probably mow again this weekend just to cut up what didn't get mulched. It is raining now! I am getting water-logged!!

We're still having high wind warnings, and had a surprise rain last night. Plus we might get more this week. Such odd weather.
