I don't know where you are at, but the only bird in my book that has red on its face that I saw is a red-whiskered bulbul. They are in Florida.

I saw a bird which I'd say was grey with a red mark on the side of its head. It was smooth like a mourning dove, but not so plump. I can't figure out what it was! Did I imagine it?

I hope to visit Lake Erie one day and see these wonderful ducks you have there. I really adore ducks! P Allen Smith has videos about raising different varieties of ducks-its wonderful to see /learn about all the different kinds. :)!

I woud be so happy to one day live by the water and see ducks on a regular basis. -I live in the city. I do have my beloved backyard birdies which frolic in the stone bird bath -water I provide for them daily. They look sort of like ducks when they splash!

MAGNOLIA416 you are lucky to be able to see ducks. I LOVE ducks and to actually see them I'd have to travel far from where I live. But when I do, it's such a treat to see/watch them! emoticon

I just happened to click on Birdwatchers Team today-Its been awhile. But it reminded me what a nice team this is. Everyone loves birds here like me! Every day I watch birds at least for a little while. These days (in my yard here in LA,) I have mostly sparrows, blue jays, red robins. hummingbirds and doves. I love them all.

Yes, the parks to the east are bigger and better and you may see a variety of water birds and others. cullen park is a city park at the mouth of the Maumee River and Bay. It has a small walking path that goes on a causeway out to the river and a walking path to the south that has a loop along the river where the active eagles nest is at. They both get warblers. It goes also by a yatch club and coast guard station. The magazine is a free guide that you will probably find in the areas you are going.

Coming from Indiana and my sis is from Michigan. Which magazine are you talking about? It looks like Cullen Park is not too far from where we are planning to stay but we will mostly be headed in the other direction towards Magee Marsh. It is more of a NWR type area and will attract more birds than a city park. I looked up Cullen Park and it looks mostly like a city park with a boat launch.

White throat sparrow at my feeder today along with the chipping sparrows.

Where are you coming from? If you pick up the magazine when you get here, on page 58 there is an ad for Cullen Park, which down the road from where I live. You should check it out!!
There is an active bald eagles nest there.

Biggest Bird Week!....my sister and I are headed up for that next Monday. I hope the weather looks better than this week.

We just got back from a mega trip to Hawaii and added at least 45 new birds to our lists. That is a really fine place to bird and everything you see is new except for the Norther Cardinal and House Sparrow. People come from Australia to see the cardinal! We traveled fairly cheaply by renting houses and making our own food. They have Costco on three of the islands. Best bird found was Hawaii's rarest....the Palila. It is considered a honey creeper and its habitat is very threatened....mostly by feral pigs and goats! Had to go up to about 6000 feet on Maunaloa to see this one in the rain and fog and cold.

I love hearing the robins singing so early in the morning, when it is still dark! Spring finally made it to Ohio.

I am going to meet with a group in my community tomorrow. They are trying to get people here for the Biggest Birding Week next month. I am volunteering to help them out when I can.

I saw some red-winged blackbirds yesterday and I feel hope that the spring is here!

SophieMae2007, we have cardinals and a few robins here in Toronto all year round. I still like to see them though. I especially love the female cardinal. She isn't as showy as the male but I love to see her.

We had an Audubon field trip on Saturday and ended up with 91 species. Best birds were Swainson's Hawks(western stray), Purple Martin, and Swallow-tailed Kite. Spring migration is kicking off with those last two birds mentioned.

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was on a bird walk this morning at Tommy Thompson Park. There have been a lot of snowy owls around here this year. I've seen 4 snowys total, and one Great Horned Owl last year at High Park here in Toronto. I'd like to see a Sawhet Owl.

Been so sick the last week - haven't been able to see much of anything other than the inside of my house. A few weeks back we went and checked out a local rookery and saw dozens of Tricolor Herons, White Ibis, Snowy and Cattle Egret, and Great Blue Heron. It was at sunset and we've been out there a few times, it's quite a sight to see.

Take Care,
Kathy

Spring and love, well maybe more love, is in the air. Spotted a pair of downies in the trees flitting around the branches. I am assuming it was some kind of mating dance. They would move their heads side to side and open their wing and just around. Also spotted a pair of carolina wrens.

My husband led a field trip yesterday and got quite an impressive list. I opted to stay home with the little one. Outside my office window this morning I see an array of gulls, terns, and brown pelicans on the dock.

Hello!

I just got back from a few days visiting my parents in the country. It was quite cold (-28C, don't know what that is in F) so there weren't a whole lot of birds out and about but I did see:

Downy Woodpecker
White-breasted Nuthatch
Black-Capped Chickadees
Canada Goose

Every morning and evening I have over 300 - 500 Turkey Vultures floating by and circling the area as they make their way behind me to roast at Frontera Audubon.

This morning as I was looking outside the rainy window -- there sat a hawk of some sort.
Boy I could not find my field eyes...took out the little ones I had one at the festival....it was one of the Turkey Vultures!!!!!! A good hunting spot!!!

Marcy,

I have been to South Texas a few times. I love it there and it sounds like you have some the sought after birds in your own yard. Great going.

My best bird today was a Black and White Warbler. Always good to see.

DANABIRD1 - the famous Amazon Kingfisher was spotted again today...the joke is that is old news!!! lol How information travels with birders!!!

Sat down to rest after gardening, watering and filling up all the feeders...and I heard a strange bird call - - - - - a first for me!!!!

A Green Jay came to my feeders!!!! Last weekend was the first time I had ever seen one and what a thrill for one to come to my own back yard!!!!

Then while watering in the front yard ----- the Turkey Vultures soared over me --- 50 or more, some soaring low - then with a flash a Hawk of some sort flew right past me and out of sight!

Other birds today at my feeders:
Inca Doves
White tipped Doves
Mouring Doves
Buffed Bellied Hummers
Grackles
Gold Fronted Woodpecker
Northern Mocking Bird
House Sparrows
Tuffed Titmouse
Butterflies / butterflies / butterflies!!!! emoticon

Hi Fern - the Festival was awesome - more families today and volunteered at the Frontera Children's' corner and then at the booth.

A big find today that is spreading around the US: AMAZON KINGFISHER!!
Only the 2nd sighting ever!!!

Police had to protect the birders that were flocking to Hwy 100...
I didn't drive out there...but pictures galore!

I think I will stay home Sunday --- or will I go back for a 4th day of fun?

Yes I do keep my feeders ready and clean for them but I seems there are not as many. I do know as our winter guest come there are more feeders out. Tonight we had a calliope at the feeder while we ate our super. I just love it when they migrate in the fall. How was the festival today?

FERN - here at home I have 5 Buffed-Belly Hummers and at work in my Atrium I have 1-3

Most of the hummers have migrated but the locals are always around...so keep your feeders clean and filled weekly!!!! They feed every 10 - 15 minutes - and you'll see them!!!

Good finds FERN!!!!!

I'm attending the RGVBF - Rio Grande Birding Festival!

They have a show / display of BIRDS OF PREY!!!! LIVE!!!!

Today I plan to have some pictures taken with some of them!
I would love to take a picture with the Bald Eagle but it's against the law...but I can take his picture with my camera.

Last year I took a picture with the RED TAILED HAWK ---- they didn't bring him this year.

I think I will take a picture with some of the owls - I will get to let them perch on my arm (with a glove of course)!!

Pictures and blog soon!
