There is a group of people collaborating their efforts in putting together a "community-owned grocery store that will help us feed our families healthy food, support local farms & create jobs."

The effort to put together Broome County's first food co-op is presently entitled the "Many Hands Food Co-operative." It will be a first for our area as the closest food co-op that I am aware of is in Ithaca. What a wonderful way to access healthy food choices under the control of OURSELVES as co-owners and deciders behind this venture!

At this point they do not have a website, but "Many Hands is currently guided by an interim Board and Leadership Team made up of 20 committed residents and dedicated students. You can make a difference by adding your talents and energy to this group. The Syracuse University Community Law Center is assisting us in becoming incorporated."

"Why should I join the Many Hands Food Co-op?

---Get access to great products and services.
---Be heard. Your voice counts --- your co-op truly cares what you think.
---Be part of a values-based organization that puts people ahead of profit.
---Share in the financial success of the organization through a patronage dividend.
---Invest in a business that is locally owned and democratically controlled.
---Be part of a strong and proud cooperative tradition.
---Help change the way business is conducted in America and around the world.
---Cooperatives are leaders in building stronger and healthier communities."

At this time the only way to jump in and be a part of this food cooperative effort is to sign up for their e-mail list and let them know of your interest and support:

This sounds like an exciting and healthy endeavor!
