I'm passing this along and encouraging as many folks as possible to be there and advocate for more Trail Development in our area! The intent of this project is to extend the downtown RiverWalk trail all the way out to the Binghamton University campus! Now wouldn't that just be an AWESOME addition to our community?!?!
Here's the info, courtesy of Mark Bowers of the New York State Regional Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator, who passed this on to our Bike Club:
I want to take this opportunity to let you know that the Public Information meeting for the Rte. 434 Greenway Construction has been set for May 10th, 6:30pm at St. Johns Church on Vestal Ave. in Binghamton.
This project will build the connection from downtown (at the South Washington St. pedestrian bridge) out to the BU campus. The meeting will begin with an “open house” format, then there will be a formal presentation at 7:00pm, followed by a question and answer period, and more of the open house format, so that folks can meet with the project team and ask additional questions.
We really need a good turnout at this meeting to show support, as this project continues to compete for funding with other highway and bridge projects on the Department’s Capital Program. So let’s do everything we can to get the word out.
There will be official notices in the paper, and the letters will be going out shortly to the public as well as elected officials, and other agencies. However, we all know, word of mouth is the best advertising. So get this on your calendar.
