Thanksgiving is knocking at our door...how's everyone doing? Prepared for a healthy and well holiday?

We're keeping it simple and planning on only making a small quantity of decadent items such as stuffing.

Feel free to jump in and share your tips on surviving Thanksgiving in the best way possible! :-)

No kidding, Don. Food season is UPON US!

As far as Halloween giveouts go, when I'm home that night (which I am often not because my friends throw parties), I don't give out edibles at all (partly because I can't even trust myself with apples in the house). Also, many folks will wisely not let their kids eat unwrapped food from strangers, so giving out apples can be like throwing them away.

Here's a blog post showing what I give out, if anything:

Here's what we've got ahead in the next 6 months:

It's the time of year I dread, because I seem to have to work extra hard to keep from overindulging.

Since I seem to thrive on accountability in a competitive setting I like to participate in group challenges to address this.

In fact, I have a couple of challenges I've set up running through January 2. Both have a November 7 signup deadline.

Alternative to Halloween Candy

www.ehow.com/info_12019203_alternati

-halloween-candy.html

"As obesity rates soar, affecting around 12.5 million children and adolescents in the United States alone, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you can do your part to make a difference this Halloween by offering an alternative to traditional Halloween treats. Whether you're treating your own family or neighborhood children, healthy snacks, toys and school supplies can delight children and their parents. Try these options to add fun and healthy twists to trick-or-treating."

Apples are my #1 choice. Any other ideas out there...?

There is something about Fall that always helps me get back on track. The crisp air, beautiful trees, not dying of heat exhaustion when I walk outside.... yeah.. that's it! I plan on taking full advantage of it!

I sure HOPE RiverWalk AC is getting it's act together shortly...!

They have temporary services available at Iron Works out on Brandywine Highway. Finally swung by to see what I thought and was pretty disappointed. About the only folks using the facility were some young lions grunting away in the weight room. All the cardio equipment was in a room like a ghost town. The 5 spinning bikes were crammed into a tiny little room.

Plus this is all housed in an old weather-worn strip mall which is way off the beaten path.

Not the extreme convenience of the RiverWalk hotel downtown. And not the shiny, new facility I signed up for which was a-buzz with people of all ages active in all the various areas of the facility.

At least now I have the great outdoors still luring me ahead with an upcoming stupendous long weekend of sunny, warm days!

Get out there and soak it up everyone!

Went past the RiverWalk fitness center yesterday night & it didn't look too bad in the dark - are they still cleaning up inside? Hope they get up and running for you soon!

Things are pretty busy at work so the fitness center (60 ft. from my desk) is a little bit of a dream right now for me too - so close and yet so far... will get back to it when I get these 3 (yes 3!) programs baselined & things settle down a bit.

Ouch! Good point, my bad...hoping everyone is bouncing back as best as possible from flood woes!

Great to hear you're up for the Bridge run again! Hopefully we'll be better able to plan a get-together before, during, after...sometime...lol!

I think more than a few Binghamton area residents had a thing or two on their minds besides WHOOPING SYRACUSE in September (I know several people who are still waiting to find out if their home is really still their home or if it's a FEMA buyout emoticon ) - hopefully everyone is starting to recover from the flooding and get back on track.

I didn't have much flood damage (just enough water in the basement to force us to get rid of the icky carpet), but did spend some time helping out some friends & also at the farm where our horse is boarded (all animals OK but a lot of property damage) - and then my DD broke her arm (right/writing arm of course!) and needs help with everything now! She's getting better at managing for herself now, so I hope I'll be getting back at it really soon!

I'll be signing up for the bridge run too - maybe this time I'll actually meet up with some BALs!

Like it or not (me? I'm in the NOT camp...lol!) summer has wrapped up and we are on our way to fall and winter. For me this means a HUGE change in my workout routines as I will soon be mourning the loss of hitting the open roads on my bicycle. Last winter I opted to add the choices of a fitness center to my routine (RiverWalk Athletic Center), however it got HAMMERED by the flood and is still recovering and not up to snuff yet. So lately I've been re-acquainting myself with my old buddy The Treadmill and reviving my morning mojo by hitting the 'mill 1st thing in the morning.

I was surprised when I received an e-mail already encouraging registration for next year's Binghamton Bridge Run Sunday, May 6, 2012

After some thought I decided that this non-runner was going to go ahead and sign up for the 5K once again and use this as another source of motivation through the months ahead. This past year we had such an AWESOME turnout among our SparkTeam members. I'd like to do even BETTER in 2012!
