I hope so. I am working on them all the time. I have a long ways to go but I am certainly not where I used to be. Thank you, Gwen.

i hear you Karen. I was anorexic/bulemic through my teen years into my early 20's due to a childhood trauma. My best advice is keep seeing the nurtrition counselor and find another one for the emotional issues. Once you tackle those.. the food issues will fall into place.

I feel that my diagnoses help me to understand myself in one way but in another way I have to let my ownself be my guide and listen to practical thinking. Meanwhile, I am still struggling and my eating disorder counseling lately has been sort of stagnent. I had a better counselor a few years ago but she got a nursing job in school environment. I am now with a nutrition counselor who doesn't do a lot of the emotional part that the other counselor incorporated and doesn't challenge me as much or so I feel. I know I should be challenging myself by now, but I think that sometimes I need a little shove in the right direction.

every time i read this i find that it's ridiculous on how themedical community has to be so critical of everything and label everything.. It's like the medical community has OCD.

I have four other eating disorders and I am not in danger of those two.

The so-called "orthorexia" sounds a bit like early stages of anorexia to me - though I am coming from the place of having seen my sister decide to be vegetarian, then stop eating altogether (she is "fine" now - in that she is eating - though I'm not sure she's "well"). I don't know that it needs a separate designation - abnormally restrictive eating that is causing problems probably needs to be treated similarly to anorexia, no matter what you call it.

Picky eating - so what? I won't eat chunks of cooked tomato unless my 6yo calls me on it (then I gag them down...), and if a tomato sauce has skins or seeds I won't touch it, but if my overall diet is varied, healthy and balanced, who cares? Someone who likes my tomato chunks can have them, and I'll eat their mushrooms LOL!

We all have to find our own path. If we're healthy & happy, who cares if someone wants to label it "picky?" :-)

I would be the selective eater, I have texture issues and weird food habits. I don't care, I'm not into labels except for healthy or fit.

if you think about it.. Anyone who chooses a healthy lifestyle is Technically "Orthorexic.. So i'm at the WHATEVER with that.. someones always gotta have a title for something...P.s...my youngest who is autistic would qualify as a "selective eater" as would most kids on the spectrum.

I saw those, I couldn't believe I qualify for one of them. Don't care, not going to pay any attention to it.
