WILLOW49 passed along this cool development happening in Nashville, TN which Spark-Nashville has become a part of. Made me think: Hey, dya suppose we could get Mayor Ryan to ramp up something on par for Binghamton...?
Check out these posts from the Spark Nashville Team Leader, OILPAINTER:
"Nashville's Mayor Karl Dean has challenged Nashville, TN to Walk 100 Miles of Local Parks & Greenways This Spring and Summer!
The Mayor has a list of SCHEDULED WALKS and he and his staff have met members of our SparkNashville.com team at each of the walks. They would like to dedicate one of the walks to SparkPeople.com... I thought you'd like to know about it in case you can use it for the PR or want to be involved somehow.
The project is a series of 28 walks, ranging from two to 10 miles in length, throughout Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County parks and greenways. Dean has challenged Nashvillians to walk 100 miles over a three-month period; walking on their own or in groups or joining the mayor in any of the weekend and weekday events.
For those who meet the 100-mile goal, they will be invited to a celebration in downtown Nashville on Saturday, July 9.
Now... HBO heard about it...
HBO Documentary with a brief focus about my city team, Spark-Nashville!!!
HBO is researching for a four part television project on weight in America. They are conducting research for the final episode of this project. Part four of the series will focus on 'solutions' and because of Nashville's proactive city-wide approach to solving the systemic issues that lead to inactive communities (Walk 100 Miles w/ Mayor Program), HBO is investigating doing some filming in NASHVILLE during one of these walks.
She wants to focus on Spark-Nashville because of our online approach to health & fitness within our community. In particular, she mentioned doing a ride-along with me picking up those of us who carpool to the various walks and film our members because of the large age-span involved: toddler to women in their 60s & 70s."
What do you think? Can we inspire Mayor Ryan to do a similar thing...? What a great way to inspire people to use and celebrate our parks and rail-to-trails!
