that is awesome the nutritionist is so willing to help you like that! :) ANd i track my salt as well.. I don't hve hypertension but i do have Mitral Valve Prolapse.. I then decided why not just track all the nutrients... andi pretty much take a Multivitamin every day now..lol...or at least 1/2 a one based on my dietary needs of the day.

Thank you Gwen :-)

I have resigned myself to the process of entering food.

I have only been part of SparkPeople for a little while, but I have been taking stock of my choices for a long time now. I think I am going to add Salt to my list of things to track, as I have hypertension I thought it would be a good thing.

The Dining services here provides nutritional information, so I am using more accurate info then guesstimating from what others have entered, but (and for instance) there were 3 entries for Mexican Rice, what I had for lunch today; so just to be safe I used the one with the highest calories )-:

Also, I talked to their nutritionist today. She is going to get me the nutritional information for something I eat whenever they have it, but they don't have listed on their site. She is really nice and it sounds like she is happy to help me whenever I need it :-)

I ALWAYS enter my own food.. I've found that when i have something, ie. Box of KAshi GO Lean.. SOmeone ALWAYS has stuff entered wrong.. or they've listed the portion size wrong.. Are you eating on campus out of convience?? I find eatingout always means the food is loaded in ALOT more sodium.. Which is not healthy and makes you retain alot of water. If you need to eat on campus.. I would go talk to the manager of the dining halls.. Let him know what you're doing..Maybe he could post a "low cal" option of the day.. If there are recipes you could enter them in the recipe center and with how many servings there are.. you could calculate the info.. IMHO.. Def worth it to load it all yourself.. Even if it is a monsterous undertaking.. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS load my own recipes.. If you need help let me know.. All i need is the recipe and the # of people it serves... Making people aware of their food choices is always better... COurse... they could just blow you off too.
but hey.. nothing ventured, nothing gained. ANd i bet if they charged "per portion" and not just what is slapped on thier plate... People may be more aware of what they're putting into their mouth's.

Hey folks :-)

I work and OFTEN eat at Binghamton University. I have just started tracking my nutrition, and I am wondering if anyone else from this team eats at BU often.

If so, have you entered a lot of the foods into the "Create a Food Not Listed" window?

How do folks mostly handle new foods within this group? Do you guesstimate using already existing options or do you create entries?

Is there any interest in working with Dining Services on campus to get their food entered into SparkPeople or helping me entering a bulk of it?
