I think that the point of the shorter screws is so that you only screw into the rubber and not through the rubber. Then you don't ruin the shoesor have to worry about the ouch factor!

I saw that somewhere too, it seems to be quite popular and people say you can take the screws out once the season is over, in fact they fall out sometimes on the road.
I thought about doing it in a pair of sneakers that were almost used up, but that would mean buying 2 new pairs of sneakers, breaking them in and then using the old ones.
Too much time and money involved for this year, but I'm seriously considering it for next year. I just love the simplicity of it.
Don, you make a good point about the "waterproofness" of the glue. I wonder if that's an issue?

wow...! clever, but I wonder about leaking wet stuff up through the drill holes. Most glues aren't going to be flexible enough to hold up for long.
