Tonight I played softball - finally felt good enough to play instead of just watch and it was a double header! I have definately had better games but made it through both games alive and well and very happy to finally try and swing a bat.

...a bike ride from Otsiningo Park to downtown Bingo, around the Parlor City 5K route cheering on the runners and back to Ots. Park. Good practice with my clipless pedals in downtown and no mishaps!

I was disappointed in the Farmers Mkt. at Ots. Park - hoping it is just a late season b/c we had such a crappy spring. I'll check it out again in a couple weeks. emoticon

Day 5 of Supreme 90 Day - shoulders/arms. I had sweat EVERYWHERE and almost fell on my face when I was doing the triangle pushups, but I. DID. IT. :)

If we go, I'll go the "easy way" clockwise - like the RBR. My husband always likes to go the other way b/c it is a little more challenging for him - not sure I am up to that today LOL.

I have some stuff to get done and depends on my energy level but maybe we can get together for a ride later this afternoon?

brave lady to do the clipless pedal's... I'm SO not there yet.. Still occasionally wobbly on a bike...lol.. I still need to get 1/2 hr ride in for the week.. depending on how my studying goes.. I could do the RBR loop :) LOVE THEM HILLS! :)

Yesterday I got my first bike ride outside trying out my new clipless shoes/pedals. Very short, slow ride - only about 27 min - but a lot of time stopping, starting, clipping, unclipping. Plus I had treatment Th & Fr so didn't want to over do things. Of course got "initiated" - fell over once. Bruised hand, scraped knee no big deal. Maybe a real ride around the RBR route a little later this afternoon.

hye..I've never known how to shift gears...or how to use them..looked like a total idiot when i asked a few triclub members on what to do...only 2 or 3 were nice enough to tell me how and not look at me like i'd grown a second head.. But hey.. all i had was a 3 speed growing up... :)

Today I worked on conquering...shifting gears. It's something that I've always struggled with so I did some reading at work today and played around a bit on the way home. It's getting better. Though I feel not-so-bright admitting that I've owned a multi-speed bike for almost 20 years and never bothered to learn. Maybe that's why I never rode much.

Today I conquered a 2.5 mile bike commute to work. Now I just need to make it home in one piece when it's nearly 90*! This is the most biking I have done in probably 6 or 7 years.

ETA: I conquered the ride home too. Only about a minute slower and more incline.

Fatigue... I now understand what they mean by recouping after a big race.. Even though mine was a practiced TRi on friday.. I'm feeling pretty whiped out especially since i added a bike ride with Liz on SAturday.. I"m thinking of keeping tthe intensity lower this week since i do have the BIngo 5K on sunday.. and the cold i aquired from john and david just add to the being tired.. I slept 12 hours the other night.. I feel another one of those in order.. :)

I know what you mean. When I went last year, I told Sara that I was really embarrassed to go b/c I needed SO much help/work/instruction having never taken a swim lesson in my 45+ years and couldn't swim the length of a pool, that I didn't want to go. YET I knew I NEEDED to go to get better. Vicious circle. You will be happy you went. See you there

lol.. I hope so Kobe.. Liz told me the first day i looked like a fish having a seizure in the water... This past week she said i seemed less scared.. and i was a little bit more relaxed.. Even when she was purposely swimming close to me... SHe said it would help with the "panic" i was feeling whenever people were swimming close and splashed by... SHe was right.. Oh and as a FYI.. I was in the MIDDLE Of the pool with JUlie...No hanging on the sides. :)

GReat Job Kobe! I had lots of goggle mailfunctions yesterday.. if they're too loose they fog.. too tight and i have SERIOUS goggle eyes...grr....But i did a 1000m in 55 minutes.. 1/4 of the time i was able to do the crawl..1/4 breastroke, and the 30 minutes back... and hey i didn't freak when Liz came splashing on by me.. AND I was in the middle of the pool.. I"m getting a little more confident! :)

...going to the pool when it was minus 14 degrees.

ooooh the water felt SO good!

Swam 800 yds nonstop (other than a minor goggle adjustment) just to see how long it would take me - that is the swim leg of the broome co. tri. Now it's time to whittle away that time!!

you're right Kobe... In fact my husband asked me WHAT made me think i could run faster in COLDER weather.. I was like... Uhhh.. I Dunno... Because it's really FLIPPING COLD??? after reflecting on it during my swim.. I guess i should be really proud of the fact that at a MUCH colder temp to start during the lat 2 runs... I maintained my pace for 2 of those laps.. Now i just need to conquer that last one! :)

oh geez - don't be frustrated with your time....besides the fact that the conditions were not exactly ideal, we can't have great runs/workouts everytime. When we get used to having good workouts we forget that they are good so then life throws in a whammy every now and then to make us appreciate the good ones even more next time. Actually that is the main reason I don't/can't run in the cold. I get to stiff and my joints hurt too much to move and get warmed up. Guess it's that age thing LOL

We have 2 driveways and he snow blows paths all the way from the front yard to the back where the dogs (3) hang out most of the time and all over, looks kind of crazy but fun for the dogs. We have a small fenced in area that I shovel paths around too - it's all about them.

thanks Kobe.. I will say i'm a little frustrated with my time today.. I guess i had expected better of myself.. check out my blog.


Oh and we have a snow blower too... I make DH use it... ANd he's snow blowed a path for our dogs too..lol..
But we have a city size lot.. so it's no real stretch to shovel.. Now if i have lived out at my parents house ( which i HAVE shoveled) I'd want a plow or snowblower..lol..

You guys are amazing running in this cold - great job!

Today I did a spin bike session and a short run before 9:30 instead of waiting all day then not getting it done.

OH and for those of you in love with your snow shovel - you get another chance to use it Wed.

LOL I like to shovel my yard for the dogs and around the bird feeders but other than that I like to watch DH use the snow blower

Hey, nailed a mini-milestone today:

The route from my daytime work to my private practice office is 1 1/2 miles each way. Normally I use the Nordic Poles and walk with some jogging tossed in.

Too slippery for the poles to "dig in" today so for the first time I jogged the whole way THERE and BACK!

Now I know to you Road Runners (*beep beep*) around here this may be a walk in the park, but it felt mighty fine to this, as yet, non-runner! :-)

Sounds like another Pollan-ism...Michael Pollan makes SO much common sense in his approach to healthy eating.

Speaking of which I've been wondering about the Flatout wraps and Arnold Sandwich thins...they're about 100 cals apiece and my "go-to" , but I've noticed it takes a LONG, LONG TIME before they begin to mold. They seem healthy enough but it does make me wonder...

Kudos to your run!

Today I'm nailing two cardio sessions...something I rarely do. Have done my 'millwork 1st thing, aiming for Nordic Walking later between offices.

lol.. that's me on the exercise bike DOn... But when i say i zone out on the treadmill.. it is just that.. I focus in on the numbers and can zone until they become a blur and everything else around me ceases to exist... Just me and my thoughts....


Oh and yesterday i conquered my noise overload by goign for a long run :)

My tunes are what makes a critical difference for me on the treadmill. I deliberately AVOID clock-watching as it seems to make time go all that much more slowly...!

I always challenge myself to see how much time I can spend on the treadmill before looking at the time...sometimes have gone up to 40-50 minutes without looking! :-)

OK mine is about the same and i'm running about the same pace.. BEcause for awhile there i was wondering if the distance and/or MPH were off.. maybe it's just the fact that it's the treadmill like you said... HIghest i've gotten is a 6mph pace.. for a quick 1 mile run.. and i figure i need to be at least 5.5/5.6 to be able to pace like i run outside... but i hear you.. treadmill running is a snoozer.. I find i zone out on the clock on the treadmill while i run..lol..

I can sustain a 5.2 mph pace for a longer run, last night I started off very slow b/c I was feeling so tired, started at 4.7 mph, I moved up to 5.1 and did the last 2.5 miles at 5.4 mph. It evened out in the end to about a 12 minute pace.

I can do a 5.5 mph run for 3.1 miles but it's difficult. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I'm in a stuffy basement, or b/c I'm on a boring treadmill or if my treadmill is a little off in calculations, but I always run slower on the treadmill than I do outside.

My run last night was just about me making myself run for as long as I could at a slow pace on the treadmill. Since I really hate running on it, it's always very encouraging to me if I go more than 40 minutes.

If I could somehow manage to wake up and run then I could run outside...

Been hitting the treadmill again also. I tend to stay between 4-5 mph with an occasional bump up to 6 mph.

Hoping to RE-conquer getting my morning mojo back and resuming my morning treadmill routine on a daily basis.

Great job TRacy!!! what's your average MPH on your treadmill runs.. I'm trying to figure out if i'm running too slow on mine...


and Don.... those woodpellets can be a workout!


80 minutes turbo jam... Yupper... i did the 20 minute.. and then the 40 minute cardio burn.. Still trying to figure out how sparkpeople can calculate so high on the calories burned.. It's always double what my HRM says...

Go you guys!

I ran a slow 6 mile on the treadmill when I didn't think I had enough energy to even go 3. Let's just say too much junk snacking over the holidays. I sure felt better afterwards though!

Great thread Gwen! And 80 minutes of Turbo Jam, that sounds crazy, good for you.
