Okay...here's the scoop: Just called both CF & CV:

CF has NO open swim times for the community: BOO HISS!

CV DOES have open swim times at the High School Pool:

Weds & Thurs. on days the school is open

Hours: 7 - 8:15 pm
Cost: $1 for students, $2 for adults, $4 max per family

I spoke with the fellow who manages the pool and he said that they do set aside 2 lanes for lapping and when I aske how difficult it might be to get a lane he said they were pretty readily available.

Phone: 762-6800

Going to add this info to SparkBinghamton also.

Hi Don - if you are talking the M & W 6am group/coached swims, you do have to be part of the tri club ($30 year, swim plus all other benefits)). I don't know if they have different times for open swim or if they charge?

I know Chen. Valley does (or did) 1-2 nights a week and I think it was $1 or $2 each time you went

The CF swim: question...is this only for the Tri club or for all...? Might consider this as it's just down the road from me....

I haven't heard much about the financial assistance program available through the YMCA, but they DO have one to consider:

financial%20assistance.pdf

I would be interested to know more about this also, although I'm pretty sure it's not something I can afford either financially OR time-wise at this point. Would HATE to sign up and simply find myself not using it because of lack of time!

Someday...I keep telling myself SOMEDAY I'll join one of these...!

One factor that is VERY important to consider along with cost is the convenience to get to from home. It can really kill one's use if a fitness facility is not very easily accessed!

I think I've heard that facilities generally do not make their rates widely known because there are so many variables and period discounts that are made available that they do not want their members comparing / contrasting and coming back to ask for a reduction because so & so got a cheaper rate.

OK i couldn't find info on this as a "sticky"..but i thought it was worth discussing as i'm looking to start triatholon training in January... I do plan on checking to see if UE high school has an open swim time.. I'm sure it'll be at O'Dark hundred Like CF high school if they have it.. But the COST of gym memberships are what i'm having a hard time finding..

I found the YMCA: http://www.bcymca.com/membership.htm

Boys and girls club in Endicott:
http://www.bgcwb.org/ratemem.htm

Court Jester:
http://courtjesterac.com/

these 3 places all have pools.. So any other thoughts on this would be good :)
