You know, as long as we have lived here, we've never gone, mostly because there's a certain amount of fear about the drivers combined with alcohol thing. What I would love to do, but have not found (but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place) is a place where my DH and I can get dressed up and go dancing (we love danging and used to take ballroom classes a lot). The Opera has a big fundraising ball on NYE, but that's not what we're looking for. But you are right - sitting around waiting on the clock is for the birds..

Is anyone else heading out for First Night...?

It's been a healthy tradition of ours for the past several years...before First Night it was the same old, same old...stuff our faces, fall asleep while waiting for the ball to fall.

Now? We're out buzzing about town and catching up with TERRIFIC entertainment...mostly musical...and topping it off with the HUGE bonfire and fireworks by the Arena!

I can't think of a BETTER way to usher in the New Year!

One of our favorite bands is returning: Seneca Moon String Band...they are an all-acoustic, many hand-made instrumental band performing as they like to say "the hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s...that is the EIGHTEEN 60s, 70s and 80s"! Mountain music, music from Appalachia, from Old England, Ireland & Scotland...lovely hammer dulcimer, autoharp, fiddlin' and mandolin playin'...all heavily seasoned with their lame groaner humor that keeps you smiling nonetheless.

Also really enjoy the Binghamton Steel Drum Band...feels like a refreshing splash of the Carri bean here in the chilly Southern Tier!

Post if you are going to go...let us know what your favorite entertainment is...and if you haven't thought about it, join in the fun, get up and boogie your way into the New Year...woo hoo!
