Happy New Year to other Boston Terrier Lovers!

I haven't used Sparkpeople in quite awhile but I'm back again after losing 40 lbs then putting 30 of it back on emoticon I went to Get in Shape for Women for almost 2 years, the first year went great but the second was a waste as there is a lot of emphasis on the scale so if I had a bad week and gained a couple pounds I wouldn't go in on my next weigh in day thinking I could take it off fast and get back on track. That did not work and the weight came back on quickly.

I'm determined to lose it again plus more. I have joined the Y and will start there tomorrow...weather permitting ( we are supposed to be getting at least a foot of snow tonight).

I could use some support, challenges & friends if anyone is interested. I want 2014 to be the best year ever!

My Boston babies are Gracie 3.5 years and Kenzie 4 years emoticon

Yes, eggs are the perfect food, who do you think God gave it a package all it's own? As for butter, it is healther than those man made artificial kinds of margarine ! So enjoy an egg, toast with butter !

I'm worn out from shoveling the snow and ice. I knew last night that I should have finished the shoveling. I was just to tired at 10:30 last night to finish the whole driveway !

SHEKIRK - take your time healing - the body is miraculous but we seem to want it to do things our way - I am so guilty of this- don't push to get back to work if you are not ready - am anxious to hear the next update !!!!

KAYWEB - i love old houses - I bet your house is glad for a new gift - nothing this year for my house - am saving to put a new porch out front - so maybe I will give the house a summer gift -

GRAND - I love wrapping myself in blankets in front of the TV with Sasha hiding under the covers- last night I actually heated up 2 rice heating "things" and we all were toasty warm !

AJ - get well -

so - I am really sick of all the contradictory information out there on health, eating , diseases etc - it is enough to make my life confusing and stressful - so in protest to all that I made myself a soft boiled egg with broken buttered toast - and I felt I was in heaven - I gave up eggs a while ago - and butter was a no no - well - now I am reading that is all that is OK - wow - so many opinions -

have a great Saturday - I only have one errand to run - library - I have 2 books to pick up - the Alchemist and Snow Baby - hope I like one of them!!! emoticon

Hi, everyone.

Grand--Hope you are feeling better.

Shekirk--great news from the docs! Hope you continue to heal well.

We've been passing a cold around here. Thanks to the kids I'm now coughing. Oh, well. A day in the life.

We had a nice Christmas. The best part was skyping with our son and daughter-in-law. And of course the baby! I'm so glad to eat more normally again. Next weekend we take son #2 to school. Our gas tank will be thanking him for moving. ha ha

SHEKIRK: So great to hear from you. Slow recovery makes for a healthy YOU ! So don't over push yourself. If the first day of the New Year at school comes and you are still not sleeping in your own bed, you should not return to work !
Glad to hear that they are stopping your pressure meds. Sounds great and there is nothing wrong in just stopping those meds. You don't want to drop to the ground due to too low pressure ! Keep up that wonderful work that you are doing to get back on your feet. Yes, you can expect to feel tired a lot for many reasons after surgery. Some due to the anesthesia that they used on your. One doc I worked for told me that for every hour you are under you can count that as a month before you really feel on top of the world again. The body is a wonderful thing when working right, now it has to rest and relax to get back on top !
God bless and keep you as you recover from all that has taken place !
Once again so great to hear from you. Hi Winston !

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't been posting, just get so tired that I can't get the energy to get on the computer.
I am healing- I feel it's going too slowly- but the nurse and physical therapist who come to the house seem to think I'm doing great for such a major surgery. I have been trying to sleep in my bed instead of the chair- some nights are good, others not. Hard to get comfortable.
Did see a kidney specialist, still need to watch sodium level- My blood pressure has dropped tremendously this week, so all the doctors told me to stop all pressure meds and monitor pressure. Nervous about stopping cold turkey, but they're the doctors. Will see the oncologist next week as well as the surgeon and cardiologist. I'll let you know what theysay.
Grand- sorry to hear that you are sick, hope you get better quickly!
Kayweb- you really have some cold weather by you!!
Baba- I like how you spoke about your home. I've been in this house for 30 years - always thought it was just a starter home, but I guess not. I'm happy here.
Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year and hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Take care all!

It is not immoral not to finish a meal, but it is of questionable morality to treat yourself like a waste-disposal system.

I have always told my family that it was always good to buy the house a Christmas present.
I forgot to tell the house that I got it a new dirty rug for the pups to walk across before going onto the hardwood floor. After I made my post here, I took the pups out and then I came into the kitchen and there was other sounds going on in the house and I could hear water running!
Yes, down under me I could here water and the only thing down there that I could think of was the water heater. Sure enough the dirt floor basement was a very large mud puddle !
WooHoo, the house will be getting a larger gift than I was planning on. So tomorrow I will have to tackle getting a new one put into this over 200 year old home.
So glad that my brother was home when I called because I wasn't able to turn the water off at the heater, and I really didn't want to have to turn the main water connection off. He told me that I could do this. So second trip through the ice cold water and it was spraying everywhere down there. One very socked gal came back up and I'd been able to turn it off !!!!!
So I wasn't able to wash my dinner dishes and there will not be a nice warm shower before bed. But I can still get cold water for all of us to drink and also the most important I can still flush!!!!!!!!! I'm back on my feet from being sick, but that trip down to the basement isn't one that I make often if at all and to do two trips down and up took most of my energy. Then I still had to go out and visit my lady friend who needs night insulin injections.
Oh by the way, they loved the tree and they did have family stop in to visit with them. So glad I did it !
Hope everyone has a nice weekend! Now all I need is to have a snow storm tomorrow. So Grand I'm sending it to you if we are to get one tomorrow !

KAYWEB - sure hope you are feeling much better -and what a wonderful family you have to take care of you like that -

Still foggy and frosty trees here - a bit of snow left behind and icy - I will say that my new studless tires are the best ever - I even try to slide and can't do it - I heard they were wonderful and they are ! sure beats those old studs I had for so many years -

happy weekend to all !!

More snow, but I had to let it sit awhile till my fear came down.
What a way to spend Christmas Day fighting off a high fever and not wanting to share what ever it was I had. Yet my brother insisted that they come get me and the pups so that I would be able to sleep and there would be someone to take the pups out and feed them. It was the first time that the rest of the family had seen Whitney. He is growing he is as of today 9 #'s. The Vet said that he is growing like a weed and wanted to know if I'd been feeding him Miricle Grow ? I have not, but that is what I use on my gardens! LOL
Grand get me that address, because I'm getting the snow that I have on order for YOU !

HI all
KAYWEB - how caring and giving you are to help people feel a little uplifted during the season when lives are so challenging - I hope your friends enjoyed the tree and your thoughtfulness

GRAND - snow melting here but there is a little trace here and there - the air smells like the ski slopes and I love that - not that I really remember since I have not been skiing in a long time- I love the smell of winter when it is really cold out -

SHEKIRK - hope you are healing fast -

WHIMSY - hoping for more snow but doesn't look like it -

Today I am focusing on peace - how will peace be part of my day? for some reason I am thinking of food - but not the comfort food - food that gives my body peace - good stuff - healthy stuff - never really thought of it that way- poor body has to deal with what I put in it - I need to do better - also peace in the air -so I intend to listen to music - calming peaceful but rather classical selections - classical music has put me in another place ever since I was small - so I am going to rekindle that today - I hope you all find wonder and peace today in your lives- emoticon

Headed out this evening to visit one of my elder lady's, for she has a daughter who needs down time from caring for her. So off I go to give her some company, put out her food for tomorrow and give her the insulin injection she needs before bedtime. She so doesn't feel as if it is Christmas this year due to her daughter taking on an extra job along with her school bus driving. They don't have any Christmas decorations up so hope I don't cross any lines but tomorrow I'm taking my tree over to her house and set it up. Not using it this year because of cute Whitney !!! Today he learned how to jump up on the recliner that I use. Right into my dinner plate ! Holy Cow it totally surprised me that he made it up on his own!!!
It was the right move not to put the tree up!!! He has pulled down the Christmas Stocking that I had hung up out of his reach or I thought it was out of his reach. Whitney took his big adventure on the snow banks of the backyard ! He was having so much fun running and sliding until he came to some very wet snow and it gave way under him. Our banks started out being 4' and now are those fun banks that have a layer of ice and you can slide down them so nicely. Fun watching him playing with Zoe in the snow! They do so enjoy each other.

Here is hoping that everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve tomorrow and just in case I don't make it back here tomorrow May Santa bring you the joy of the Christmas Surprise !
May families enjoy the fellowship of each other, may your travels be safe and may we all be healthy. Good food, some extra special treats and may we all not over do.
I'm looking forward to the New Year and another start with the Turtle Train to weight loss.

GRAND: I keep telling you that I will send you the snow, but for some reason you just don't seem to be getting what I have sent. I must have the wrong address for you, so I wonder who is getting what I have sent. Congratulations on your wonderful loss this week. I forgot to get on the scale today, but at my doctor appt. today he was so very happy to report to me that I'd lost 10#'s since I was there back in June. Glad that it was down, it did show that I'd been working on getting the weight down. Got to get off to bed this morning because 5am will come quickly and it will be off to the race to get Christmas Shopping Started and Finished in 6 hours ! A few crazy friends and I do this together !

Hey, all. I lost 1.5 at weigh-in. Don 't know how! I am still sick - can't breathe, can't talk my throat is on fire, can't smell nor really taste...and I have all these goodies & can't really enjoy them...ugggh. I hope to feel better tomorrow; it's been about a week. But with all that said, I am so, so happy to be home with my babies, to spend time with daddy, and just time to read & veg in front of the tv without worrying about work! I am so thankful to have a job, but I am thankful to have a break from the pressure of test scores & all else related to work. My mother refused an offer to come to my house for Christmas Eve - I am trying to stay strong - her loss is how I see it. I offered the olive branch. I tried.

Baba - river of light - loved that title. Would love to see some snow or even just some cold weather to make it seem more Christmassy! But wet & rainy instead! I can just envision your dogs - hilarious! We need to think of a new theme for 2014 for our little SP BT turtle train!

Shekirk - hope all is well, amigo. I hope you are resting well and getting stronger each day.

Whimsy - rain here, too, and warmer temps...doesn't seem like Christmas weather at all. You get snow - please send down to me!

Kay - that was a funny story about the dogs. I could just imagine it & laugh.

Hope everyone is safe, happy and healthy this Christmas! Eat, drink, and be merry. The train is stopped for some quick repairs right now, so we will embark on a new journey 2014 together. Have a great week. Merry Christmas! Good luck! Take care.

P.S. Santa came to my neighborhood yesterday on the fire truck....so Lucky has seen Santa 5 times this year...he is so not spoiled! lol

I went to a wonderful program last night called RIVER OF LIGHT- I could not sleep all night - waking up and thinking - it was basically a short message about remembering who brought light into our lives - and how we are to share it with others thus sending it out to the future - - we lit candles for those who gave us this gift -then a candle for ourselves and another for those in the future - It started in the dark and by the time all candles were lit it was bright and warm - This was the last in a series - I missed the other 3 -

snow still on the lawn but roads have melted meaning nights are ice- today should be upper 30's - had to laugh at the poodle who comes in with snow stuck all over her curly coat -and it does not brush off - Sasha simply shakes - the golden stands and waits- - like the king he is on the little carpet by the door for me to brush the snow off

have a full day today with lessons for the week in one day plus a meeting - I am ready to go for this week except that my phone will not send pics to my email - might just have to find a disposable camera someplace -
KAYWEB - how right you are about the great friendships here on this Boston site - can't help but thing how the world could benefit from the caring attitude we all have for each other -

great day to all - emoticon

Whitney's 1st attempt at ice skating took place at 6am this morning. I didn't notice that everything had frozen over night, it was clear when Zoe went out at 3am ! Out the brave little soul went and flat down he was, out on all fours to his belly. He couldn't stand back up and so I sent Zoe out to help him. She did push him across the drive-way tot he grass where he once again got his land legs !

Ice everywhere and it didn't melt on it's own either !

Have a great couple of days as you make the final purchases, bake the last pies, and wrap those last presents ! It has been another great year with the friendships that we have made over the last few years here on SP Boston Terrier Lovers Team. Looking forward to an even better New Year ahead of us all. Thanks for all the support from one and all. God Bless You

Rain, rain and more rain - all of our snow has melted. Somehow I am sure we will see more but not for the holidays.

Hope everyone feels better soon - I agree with all of the posts - we need to remember the true reason for this time of year. Even those who do not celebrate Christmas still have a wonderful chance to celebrate and enjoy the love of friends and family. We will be having our little grandson visit this next week! They live so far away that I only get to see him a few times per year. Plan to relish this week.

Sending heartfelt thanks to everyone for making my life richer by knowing you!

You don't have to see the whole staircase - just the first step.

Be kinder than necessary. 'Cause everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Grand I'm sorry I tried to pack that snow so that it would make it to You ! Or maybe I had the wrong address to get it to you. Will try to contact Santa and have him drop some over your house on Dec. 25 ! It was in the 40's here today and tomorrow it is looking like 50 ! Still have one roof and the front porch that have ice on the edge and I can't get it broken up. So praying that tomorrow it comes off before we drop down to the teens on Monday

BABA Would love to give you a hand with the shoveling, yet the miles between us are so great that it just doesn't seem possible ! Glad that you are all curled up on top of each other for warmth. I agree with you and the spending for gifts topic. Told the family the things that I truly would be needing this year. Wall Boston and daily desk Boston Calendars, toilet paper, paper towels, tooth paste you getting the idea. I was told that it wasn't proper for Christmas presents. So I'm sure that across the New Year ahead, I will be saving for those things. They think very big things electronics etc. I love the old fashion home made gifts. Scarf, mittens, Christmas ornaments made by the kids at school or brownies. I still have so many of those on the tree each year and would love to have some new ones. Oh well ! I'm just to old fashioned !

Shekirk What a joy to see your post this evening ! Hope that you are getting your strength back and that you will be able to celebrate with family and friend without getting to tired. If I could get your temp for 15 mins here I'm sure that my ice would finally melt.

AJ Wishing you and yours a very family filled Christmas. Thanks for the help I'm nearing the end of the book and look forward to the finish.

To one and all I wish for you and your families a Christmas Season filled with the true meaning of the Season. Love, Joy, Peace, Happiness and the knowledge of the birth of a little child in a lonely stable made of stone. A so small babe that was laid in a stone made manger to lay his sweet head. Enjoy the with family and friends your holiday celebrations !

I am sick....sinus infection, laryngitis, and tested positive for the flu....I only worked 1/2 days the last three days of school...I wouldn't have gone in at all, if it hadn't been for semester exams. So, I have been in the bed or couch with chicken noodle soup or hot chocolate. I feel like crap to be blunt. We had a local meeting with our legislators about education in KY - I went & could barely talk. .just like my luck. I am just so grateful to be home with my Lucky in my lap. My house is a mess...I am nowhere near ready for Christmas and Christmas Eve here at my house. So, Lucky & I are going to do what we can...wrap, watch Christmas movies, and just chill & get better.

Shekirk - hope you are doing better. Glad to see you post. Keep us informed on your return dr visits.

Baba - shelter - my house is one of the few places...I feel at peace. I am with you - many of us have gotten lost from the real reason for the season - friends, family, and just time together. Send me some snow. It was 70 here today.

Whimsy - it was 70 here today....you have any snow - please send this way!

Kay - snow would be great...so warm here - it doesn't seem like Christmas.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Good luck. Take care! emoticon emoticon emoticon

SHEKIRK - so glad to see your post - I felt as if I was opening a gift and my day has been uplifted - so glad you are up to posting !!! Beautiful snow that now needs shoveling and that simply is not going to happen - sure is pretty tho - praying still......

for the last week I seem to wake up and think of one thing I am grateful for -don't know why but it is the first thing that pops in my head - lately it has been shelter - altho this is by far NOT my favorite house I am beginning to cherish it simply for what it gives me - shelter - heat - toilets - I know this sounds funny - but in the midst of the hustle bustle of the season and people wondering how to buy gifts when there is no money and too embarrassed to say they are not giving gifts this year and then telling people about it - - - and feeling they have to give gifts even tho they lost their job etc etc etc - I hear so much that makes no sense to me - Guess I am in a pondering mood - but I wonder why we have lost the thrill of simply being with each other - of thanking on High for all our blessings etc - maybe I am tired (I am)- who knows but right now I think people loving people and sharing words that bless would be the best gifts for me - -

Making muffins today I hope - have had the stuff sitting out for days and simply did not feel like doing it

KAYWEB - watch that wrist - take tender care of you -

Great day to all - happy weekend smiles all around !!
staying warm at my place with furry ones shadowing my every move - Oh - I had to laugh as the Standard poodle was sitting next to me on the love seat and then the Golden somehow crawled over the poodle and was part on the poodle and part on a pillow - THEN Sasha jumped up and found the tiniest of sport to curl herself into and it was on my legs - I bet I can even turn the heat down if this continues - I wonder what they are thinking -

Hi all
No snow here! Just close to record highs - should be about 80 degrees today.

Baba- sounds like great fun with your animal family wanting to stay close to you. With snow and the cold weather they can sure keep you warm!

Kayweb- take it easy on chopping ice - don't want to hurt that wrist anymore than you may have done already.

Take care all!

Chopping ice today and moving the snow that has come down off the upper roof. This eveing my wrist is killing me. Must have been too much chopping.
I'm so tired this evening. Took one of my lady's to the mall today, oh boy ! Couldn't move the place was so packed. Then finally made time to get my old car inspected ! It took all of 5 minl and I was sure when they called me so quickly that it didn't pass. No it passed with flying colors and that just made my Christmas for me. When I was getting into the car to drive off I did notice that my drivers side rear tire was nearly flat. So drove across the street and asked them to look at it. Something about the rim being rusted and so was sitting there and the gentlemen came over to explain to me what was going on. I forgot to ask how much it was going to cost. When it was time to check out, he said this won't hurt to much. Then he took a phone call and turned the bill around for me to see. FREE was written on the bill ! It was my day ! Glad that I stopped in to get that fixed !
We are having warmer weather and the temps may reach 50 tomorrow ! That was why I had to move the ice today so that it wouldn't melt into my basement tomorrow ! Ice is coming off the roofs and when it hits the ground both Pups start barking.
Whitney held his ears up straight yesterday for the first time, he looked so big
Hope that everyone has all their shopping done, and can sit back with your feet up and enjoy the the last few days before Christmas. emoticon

Happy day to all -

good cold day today - I laughed so much - since I am now alone in the house it seems like the furry ones have gathered round and I am part of the pack - They have never been so attentive in a group - at night I go to bed and 3 dogs hop up followed by 2 cats - the other cat hides - but it makes me giggle to see cats and dogs lying all over each other - This is something new and I an getting a kick out of it - Of course there is not room on the bed for me so a few of them end up on the floor - They just all want to be so close - I am trying to figure that out - I feel so wanted an loved - :)

Finally got out my CD/ radio "thing" haven't put it up since it is big and has speakers - but I decided to find a spot and am now enjoying so much music I have not heard in years - it has simply been a happy day !!

Hope you all are not rushing to and for and taking time to sit still and enjoy emoticon

Great day - it is cold with a fog-like mist - I feel like I am in a scene from a movie - so energizing to me. Finished packing boxes to send to youngest DD -This will be the first time in her life ( 25 years) that we are not together on Christmas - She has moved to the other side of the state with hubby and the 2 wee ones that I always talk about - Found out another wee on is on the way- wow - that will make 10 grandchildren -

Whimsy - I give to a program for street kids - SAY MUSIC - I am also part of the program that gives music lessons to those who are at risk, living on the street, or are dealing with deep poverty - no charge --or for those who have a little something -very reduced rates - It is my way of helping the program and all the kids who benefit - I like the idea of food for the shelter - wish we had a no kill place - I know that meals on wheels offers free pet food to those in need so maybe I will do that as well - love that idea -

great day to everyone - be present in the moment and enjoy !!

So glad to check in and see some positive posts. Much as I love this time of year I am actually starting to look forward to peace and quiet after the holidays.

Baba and Shekirk - sounds as if both of you are feeling a little better - hope it continues. Shekirk I am so glad to hear mostly positive results from the surgery. Take it slow and easy for a while but I bet you will be feeling so much better soon.

Kay - what a cute little baby! Vincent is such a little stinker - so full of himself and life. He is so much fun to have around, can't imagine life without him now. However, fighting with him on a daily basis to go outside - since he doesn't like cold or snow is no fun.

Grand if I could send some of the white stuff your way believe me I would. It's only December and I am getting tired of it already (could be a long, long, long, winter).

Heading off to finish shopping. We have a home called the "One Way Farm" in our town - they house foster kids and we always try to help during the year but at Christmas we always sponsor a child or two - need to get the gifts together to take to them on Friday. Also bought a bunch of canned pet food for a local no-kill shelter in the area. It's not much but figure we have been so blessed in our lives that I feel the need to try and give back in some way.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

You don't have to see the whole staircase - just the first step.

Be kinder than necessary. 'Cause everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Hi all!
Celebrating my birthday and my middle son's birthday today. Also had staples out last Friday and received more results from doctors and surgeons.
Seems the kidney was an innocent bystander - had to be removed because the adrenal gland was growing into it. The kidney was cancer free and so were the lymph glands they removed to test. So far all the other organs look cancer free too. Only the adrenal gland was cancer and so I now will see an oncologist next week, but the surgeon felt there there may not be any treatment since chemo doensn't work well for this and he felt he got it all anyway. I also made an appointment with a kidney specialist to keep an eye on the one I have left. The surgeon had to call in a second surgeon because of the size of the adrenal mass and there was a concern it had invaded the bowel- luckily they believe it didn't. So, now I'm on the road to healing, not allowed to go back to work until January. Surgeon said we now need to watch to make sure the other adrenal gland doesn't develop the same problem.
Weight-wise I left the hospital full of fluid 20 pounds over what I had weighted. Right now I'm losing almost 3 pounds a day in fluid and my weight is 10 pounds less than before the surgery. Need to change the tracker.
Baba- read about the incident across from your home- unbelievable. Hope things are back to normal now.
Kayweb- I need to go see the pictures of the pup.
Grand- Love the picture of Santa and Lucky!
AJ= I'm sure you are cooking up some really delicious stuff!
Take care all.

Thanks you for the comments on the new pics. Thanks Grand you gave wonderful directions and it worked like a charm.

We got 14" instead of the 24" they talked about. Thank God, it took a total of 5 hours to get cleaned up and I was wearing my tracker, but I don't think that it counted all the steps that I took by wearing it up on my bra. But with 14" of snow I didn't think that it would be good to wear it on my boot. Oh well, live and learn ! I'm ready for bed now and so I close !

Hey, all. Christmas crazy right now & loving it. Wish there were no school this week! I changed the team pic to one of Lucky's new ones with Santa. Only sadness tonight - a guy I graduated high school passed away late Thurs night - been to the funeral home tonight..sad, a blood clot..so unreal. I have to face I am getting older - scary.

Kay - go to your SP page - click edit - click SP gallery - upload pics...or at least that is how my brain is remembering it right now, or at least that is how it used to be...you can have 50 pics. I wish it was limitless; I'd have a million of Lucky on here like I do on fb.

Have a great weekend!

what a night - at 1AM I heard 2 loud BOOMS that woke me up and a woman screaming and screaming - some woman plowed into the electric transmitter across the street and then ended up in the house across the street - tearing down the garage - her car on top of another car - and all the screaming that she did not do it and did not know what happened and it was not her fault - over 1500 people without power - after over 9 hours it is back on again and I will say that I was freezing cold with 3 layers of pants and sweaters and hats on but still so grateful I was not in the rain outside- police lights on and off and big spot lights on the house to try to get the car out and at least pile up all the lumber and things that were torn down actually looks as if a tornado hit it - I am not sure that the neighbor is even home - wow - it was bad - but the woman was walking around and I did not see an ambulance so that is a blessing

KAYWEB - have fun in the snow -

emoticon Expecting our first snow event today ! Not sure what that will bring but I'm ready for it so bring it on ! Got up this morning and tossed Whitney and Zoe out the door before they knew what hit them and then wouldn't go out for nothing. Came in and turned the computer on to see that it was only 0 outside. Sure glad we didn't know as we all stood out in the bitter cold.
Maybe tomorrow the Pups and I will be able to build another Snowman that will live till after Christmas and that will be our decorations for this year any way ! emoticon

Need to more hands today. It was so easy at the vets yesterday to clean Whit's ears and apply the ear drops which is an ointment ! That finally entered my mind, she was holding his head still for me. I wonder if she would make a house call to hold his head for me again !
Seems that Zoe loves her brother so much that she has cleaned his ears so often he has a yeast infection from to much moisture in them both ! My sweet aggressive girl !
They are really doing so well with each other ! I'm so blessed. If I can go to tomorrows B'day party and not fall apart and eat I should have another week if a lose ! I have no plan of attack this time because I'm craving pizza and that is the meal plan. I also want cake & ice cream. Plan I slice pizza, seeing this is the child that doesn't like cake they will have brownies and I'm going to cut one in 1/2 and 1/2 a scope of the ice cream and I should be okay and will have meet my cravings that I have been fighting for a week. Praying it all works !

Fortunately, I still have a family that likes to eat treats.

I was watching a video recently and the speaker said sometimes you have to start by committing a crime...the crime of throwing things away.

I liked that and I have actually thrown some treats away over the years.

Shekirk, I've been thinking of you during this challenging time. I hope you heal quickly and well.

I've been working hard and lost the Thanksgiving gain. Now if I can navigate Christmas and New Year's I'll be doing good. My friend and I started walking again. With the cold temps this week we've walked at the mall. Monday we walked 41 minutes, Wednesday 40:30 and today 40. Three times around the mall each day. I tell her it's fine to push me because I need to get walking faster anyway.

Hey, all. I was up 1 lb at WW...I was expecting it. I ate like a piggy on my trip. Crazy busy at work. Getting evaluated on Tuesday by my principal under this new system - 3 days before break - uggggh! I am praying for snow! Holidays are here too fast...I started early, but I am still behind. We had a snow day yesterday, but back to school today.
Baba - send me some snow! I hope you feel better. Cooking healthy is great - I am definitely not right now.
Shekirk - hope you are feeling stronger!
Kay - good job on the walking.
Whimsy - you have snow? Throw it my way!
Sandilee, AJ and all else -hope all is well.
Have a great rest of the week & weekend!

a nice sunny balmy day - we are going to hit the 20's but after the last week it will feel like spring !!

still sick at home but had a bit of energy yesterday and this morning so I did some cooking with what is around the house - making things that I do not make simply because I have the ingredients -all healthy and enough for the freezer -

KAYWEB - good for you to increase your steps !!!!

hope you are all well and enjoying the winter -

Hi all
Can't stay on long so just stopping to say hi. It's been a rough go. I was released on dec 2nd from the hospital, but it sure is hard to be home without all the help at the hospital. Moving along very slowly. Have 55 staples from one side of my body to the other. Surgeon had to remove both the adrenol gland and the left kidney. Seems the tumor had grown into the kidney. He stated it could be cancer. Haven't gotten the report yet. Prior to the surgery he warned me he may have to remove part of the pancreas, liver and the spleen. Luckily he said he was able to save all of those organs. Body still adjusting to having everything moved around and mentally trying to get used to the idea I only have 1 kidney. Still having bowel issues - impacted after the surgery - that hurts more than the staples!!
I couldn't believe how much fluid is still in this body- I am so swollen - especially in my abdomen and legs. Surgeon said this is normal after a big surgery and it will go down.
Now dealing with physical therapy and home nursing help.
Hubby was having a melt down because so many people were calling and he was exhausted.
Going to rest now.
Thanks for all your prayers. Now pray they don't find any more cancer in this body.

It is not immoral not to finish a meal, but it is of questionable morality to treat yourself like a waste-disposal system.

Turtle pace will win the diet race.

Hey, all. I just got home from Tenn; I went on my annual trip. I had hoped my mother would be going with me for the first time in 10 years, but it is what it is. Lucky & I had a great time. 75 the first couple of days there, and then, nothing but the rain the last two days. First time in my life I have watched the parade in Gatlinburg in rain, but I still loved it. Last time I texted with Shekirk's hubby - she was waiting to be released. I just now texted, if I get a response before I finish this post..I will put what he said at the bottom of this. Yep, Lucky saw Santa again!

Baba - Send some snow my way! I'd rather see snow any day than all this rain. Rain makes me hurt all over. I hope you get to have your get-together. I hope you feel better tomorrow! Lucky weighs about 20, but his brother Rocky got up to 35 - he is a chunk!
Whimsy - send me the snow! We have nothing but rain & just a little sleet here! I love the name Vincent. I bet he did enjoy some fun in the snow.
AJ - recipe sounds good. I loved the generation pic!
Kay - How are you doing? I'd like to see the pics, too.

I have eaten everything sweet that wasn't nailed down in Tenn, but I did do a TON of walking..but I fear Mr. Scale will be up...I did lose just over 1 lb last week after Thanksgiving.

Have great week! Good luck! Take care!

already below zero here - tomorrow we will be at a minus equal to minus 20 with wind chill and told to stay indoors - a segment on frostbite showed that in weather like this frostbite can happen in 15 min - skies are so clear but boy is it cold - expecting snow all this coming week -

stayed in bed all day hoping that tomorrow I will feel a little better -

WHIMSY - I remember growing up with Bostons in NJ and used to laugh at how easy it was to bury the sweet things since they were so small - our one was real small - the other bigger at about 12 pounds - Sasha surprised me and weighs over 20 -

KAYWEB - did you put up pics yet?

good night to all - have a great Saturday

Well we now have about 5 inches of snow - Vincent wasn't too sure about it at first but after a while he started sniffing and jumping and running around in it. Fun to watch him! He is still so much smaller than Chubby - only about 8 pounds compared to 25!

Hope everyone has a safe weekend and a warm one - we will be in the 20's. Have a feeling it is going to be a long and cold winter. Brrrrr

Whimsy: Has Vincent seen snow yet? A couple of days ago we had about 3" and Whitney just had so much fun playing in it. I made him a little snowman and the rain today took it away. Whitney looked around at the melted mess and now I know that we will have to make another one for him. How old is your little one? Whitney is 13 weeks today and is all of 7#'s.
They seem to grow so quickly.

Hope everyone has a safe time in the Winter weather and that you are all safe, warm and that this will bring a little more Christmas cheer!
Prayers out to Shekirk, Grand, Baba, for their healthy issues !

6 degrees here and getting colder at nights - no snow but lots of frost and ice inside my windows

AJ - great pic - I know how you must be into genealogy and that is my place in my family - I have a HUGE box of journals - notes - papers etc - I should pull it out and do some more work on it - I do keep my journaling and photo stuff going about the present but the past things need to be put in some kind of order - I have a great start but have put it away for a time-

KAYWEB - what are you reading? I pray for peace everywhere - seems so illusive at times there is so much unrest in so many areas including families -

well - just might have to cancel my party - I am sick and this time can't push through it so I need to rest - good time to read - I should know better than to keep pushing on and on but my mind has so many ideas that I get enthused and wear myself out- The time has come that I need to realize what I can and can't do - guess I don't want to accept -

have not been on scale - will do it this weekend and see -
great day to all ---hug the furry ones - sing for joy - and look for precious moments no matter where you are :)

AJ Just love the story behind the picture. It doesn't always fall with so much in common. That is great that you have that picture because now when anyone sees the picture they will learn the history behind it and know something about the whole family. Thanks for sharing !
Just love learning about history and the many things that we know and those things that we don't know ! Still working on my reading, hope soon that there comes some peace to the Nation ! The Elders keep telling me to read on, there is good stuff coming !

Everyone keep pushing forward. Now that the train has stopped for a short break, I have lost 2 #'s. I wonder if I can loss again before we start back up ?

We took this photo last weekend. There are four generations: Great grandma, me, DS and the baby. We are all first children. Mom was oldest child. I was oldest child and grandchild. DS and baby are both oldest child, grandchild and great grandchild.

Another thing I think is pretty neat: I was a couple months shy of 25 years old when DS was born. He was 25 years old when baby was born and I was 50.

Here's another recipe.

Quinoa and Black Beans
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup uncooked quinoa
¾ cup vegetable broth
¾ cup water
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup frozen corn
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
½ cup chopped cilantro
Saute onion and garlic in a small amount of water. Add quinoa, broth, and water. Cook until quinoa is tender and water is gone. Add cayenne, salt, pepper, corn, and beans. Stir in and heat until thoroughly heated. Top with a sprinkle of cilantro.
(I don’t tolerate spice very well so I only add a few shakes of cayenne or pepper. I also changed this recipe. The original didn’t have water, but had 1 ½ cups broth. I found it to be too strong.)

Kayweb, actually you'd be surprised at what he said in the book. I was reading it and thinking, "Wow. No wonder the recommended diabetic diet only made me GAIN weight when I tried it for PCOS." He explains diabetes by talking about how our blood sugar goes up and then the insulin raises to shoot the glucose into the cells. Only in diabetes it's like there is gum in the receptors so the communication between the cells and the insulin doesn't work as well. And guess what gums up the keyhole? Fat. The food we eat deposits fat in our cells and the mitochondria inside our cells gets behind and overwhelmed so the fat just builds up in our cells, which makes it so the insulin and cell can't communicate, which makes it so the sugar stays in our blood and builds up until we have diabetes. His recommendation is all plant foods, no animal foods. He says that the fat in our cells will decrease as we eat less fat and then everything works better, and research has shown that we actually need closer to 10% of our calories to come from protein instead of the 35-50% a lot of people believe we need. It seems to be working for me when I stick with it. I have never had diabetes, but I do have a good case of insulin resistance. My fasting blood sugars have gone from 91 to 79 since I started eating a more low fat vegan diet.

Our Thanksgiving was good. It's so nice having adult children. It was fun cooking all together. Daughter did the turkey and it was very good. Although I'm not used to meat anymore so it kind of did a number on me. ha ha. Tasted good anyway. Over the weekend we were in Rexburg with DS, DIL and the baby. It was good to see them.

In the 20's today and single digit tonight - looks like that will be our week - a tiny dusting of snow last night but that is it -

singing my way through the day of writing cards and invitations - doing bills - and a doc appt- House is finished with decorating since I did so little - but it is warm and inviting-

my one cat is walking all over the keyboard as I type and putting her face in my face - rolling on her back and doing all sorts of tricks to get my attention- she is quite the actress

have a great day to all and enjoy all that you have been given -

Must be in GROWING SPURT, for Whitney doesn't want anything to eat, and his tummy is rumbling all over the place and yet he still doesn't want anything to eat. So right now he is behind on two meals. Must leave him alone this afternoon and get some food in the house so that I'm eating good stuff and not the emergency food supplies ! which isn't really all that healthy.
Sun is shining and the warm sunrays feel so wonderful ! I will not be putting out my usual winter/Christmas display of lights. Seeing that they must be plugged in at the back of the house and Whitney still has a real interest in electric cords. Just not a good idea.
So now i'm thinking about if I will put up décor in the house. I think if I move the tree to the front window then he wouldn't be able to get to the cords! Must put away my summer flower in the house and forget the fall ones which I didn't find time to put out. And will go straight to Christmas flowers ! Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to hearing about Shekirk since the surgery is over and we are praying for that quick recovery. Would love to think that they gave you about three weeks off from work bringing you right up to Winter Break ! Then you could really heal into the New Year without going back to the grind so soon.
Thinking of you all and praying for every ones needs!!! .

Hi all - another great day - cold- "they" day we are expecting snow but I don't see any signs of that !

KAYWEB - The only way I can make it through is to keep going or life's situations bog me down - I push way too hard and feel way too deeply for my own good - and that is a negative thing - I ignore how I feel if I can - It is like in acting - no matter how you feel the show must go on no matter what - - but there is a price to be paid for that - I am trying to learn to be still - my body needs rest and healing and more surgeries to come - but my mind never stops creating and organizing -It is like I am living in a war zone between mind and body - many times I force myself to do things when I know I shouldn't - I will not give up or give in - stubborn I guess - I am trying to figure this all out as I know I push way too much - BUT - having said all that - for my decorating party I am having everyone bring supplies and tables and chairs - so really there is not much for me to do except to make the cookies and sit back and enjoy the company !!

GRAND - we been amigos on this journey for a long time - You are wonderful and I treasure you !!

SHEKIRK - lost your phone number - I think you have my land line number - I should send you my cell - Hope all is well- still praying and looking at your picture !!

Going to do a little decorating today - keeping it minimalistic this year -in an effort to be still and not push --- plus the other hip is a mess and I have the walker again - It is time for me to make my own decorating theme and start new traditions for me since I can't keep up with what I used to do - - I am going to create new ways to use what I have - OH - I should also get some kind of Christmas novel - any suggestions????

my saying for today - LIVE IN THE SOLUTION NOT THE PROBLEM-
Have a great day to all - emoticon

Dear Grand: You are a cheerleader for many of us here on this Team. Thank YOU for all the wonderful pics that make our days full of laughter. For keeping in touch when we need cheering, comfort, and also for sharing your time with us. All that you have shared here I can say ditto, too !
Can't believe how much time Whitney takes up these 1st 4 weeks here. So little at first that you carry him around so that you can get stuff done. Whitney has the run of the house now.
Zoe only has a few areas that she can hide out without having Whitney right under her nose.
On top of beds, the couch, and my chair ! He has bounced himself out of the pack'n play so I have had to remove the blankets to lower him down. That may work for another week or two if I'm really lucky.
Shekirk: Prayers continuing to lift you up. Keeping you ever in my daily prayers. Not having a pic of you to place on my prayer wall, I just have a nice 3x5 card with your SP username.
It works during commercials I will pray for those on that prayer wall. Hope that your recovery is speedy!
BABA: How do you keep going so strongly when your not feeling so great. Sounds like it is colder there than here! Your party sounds so inviting. If only twitching your nose could get us all there with you ! bewitched really had a dream all would love to have !
AJ: Just love the baby bonnet. I used to do tatting some time ago. Eyes started giving out and so it is one of the things that I have dropped. Still enjoy my knitting ! On diabetes reversal what was the main focus you got from that book. Most likely to eat less carbs, and more protein?
To all others wishing you all joy, happiness and less stress during the Holiday build-up! That should be something that we all work on so that we find great things that are going on around us vs. the shopping push and rush ! Hang on while we all take a stand still on the train tracks ! Reflecting on the good of the season. Today I'm thankful for a quiet Thanksgiving shared with family and friends. No shopping, no crowds, no over spending ! All leading to no over eating !!!!

I live alone. I spend a great deal of time alone, just Lucky & me in the house & my other dogs outside. So, it is nice to know I have you all here on SP.

Have a great week! Take care! Mr. Scale will be mean to me tomorrow - but I deserve it! LOL

I am once again alone in the house - so quiet that I can barely think - DD and her crew were so much fun to have around for a few days - they will be back in 2 weeks for the decorating party but not here for Christmas - at least I hope they are back in 2 weeks - depends on weather etc -I spent the entire day with the wee one and had a ball - we baked cookies for the party - drew gingerbread houses - built with blocks - read books - and so much more - so glad that I had the day with her as now they are gone -

cold but snow is melting - it sure was pretty -
Hope you all had a good day

Grand I am so glad you are keeping us posted on Shekirk. I had checked her facebook page the other day but didn't expect to see an update. So glad her surgery is over and she can concentrate on mending!!

Finally a warmer day here - has been quite cold and windy. Hubby is off this week to get all our outdoor decorations up but it has been a long battle with the weather. Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, but very far behind on Christmas! I never forget the true meaning of the holiday but I do so enjoy the baking, decorating and sending cards!

Will try to check in soon and catch up!

Hey, all. Still eating here & trying to decorate some...think I am getting too old to do all this, but I do love it so once it is all done Shekirk is watching some college football, took some steps today, vision is doing better - her hubby texted me today...so her hubby said overall that she is off to a good start at recovery . . yay!!!!

Lucky & I drove to the park a few miles down the road...they decorate it beautifully. Nobody can convince me that dogs don't see in color - I believe they do whole-heartedly! Lucky goes from window to window smushing his face into the glass - he sees something or he wouldn't do it!! My dad says I am crazy!

Baba - I can smell your Christmas goodies - I bet they are awesome...yummy!

Kay, AJ, Whimsy, Sandilee and all else - hope you have had a great holiday!

Have a great week ahead! Good luck! Take care!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving - hope you all had a great one too!!

frost - fog - an beautiful scenery from my front door - the mountains are hiding this morning covered with the haze of fog - but it is gorgeous - I am getting snow tires put on today - finally getting rid of the old studs - DD and her gang are still here but depending on snow in the passes she may have to leave tomorrow instead of Sunday - It has been great seeing wee ones again - even though they are sneezing and coughing - I feel so bad for them that they have a long ride home and will be in daycare on Monday since DD starts her new job -They will be back again -weather permitting- for the decorating party on the 14th - I am still trying to figure that one out -

SHEKIRK - prayers for fast healing
GRAND - can't wait for some pics of your Christmas "stuff" - I usually start decorating on Thanksgiving but this year is different - might just have a little tree and call it quits - depends on how much I want to lug out and put away - I do want the house looking festive for party - but I think the smell of baked goods will make the house cheery no matter what the decor-

Have a great day to all !!!!
