Wanting to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I'm sure hoping for a better one-
Praying for the oldest to find his way.
Middle son is close to proposing to a wonderful girl with a very nice family. They seem to like him a lot and we enjoyed time with them a few weeks ago.
Youngest just got 3 of his 4 grades for the semester - So far - A+. A+ and A - ranked number one in two of his classes and number 2 in one. - Still waiting for the last grade so keep your fingers crossed - he's hoping for another A - he did study so hard this semester - Law school sure isn't easy.and
Grand- it sounds like you have carefully thought through the who surgery situation and I'm sure you have made the right decision for yourself. You know we stand behind whatever decision you make. I'm still trying to find the right path for myself - logically, I know what to do. It's doing it that is the problem. I will try again this year. I thought I was going back on Trim Club but getting that I don't want to be so restricted feeling again. Not sure what I'm doing yet. Trying to get DH on board with me. Need to lose so much!
Baba - I"ll go back and look at those ideas you had for a new title. I think Iliked the train one!
Happy New Year !!

Shekirk & Baba - I got on the scale this morning....I've only gained 5 of my 25 back according to my home scale since I got lazy with WW over the holidays...so I updated my ticker. I want to weigh 174 lbs...but I will put on cloud nine if I can get to 199!!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year!! I think I am more like up 10-15 lbs... but I will go by my home scales til I get myself back to WW. My scope didn't turn out so good...so no fat surgery til they figure out what they found...I am hopeful it is nothing...and I'll have my fat surgery Feb/Mar...but WW til - and even after that - and I hope to not get lazy with SP either. I do better when I consistently check in at WW and SP. I know surgery isn't the cure, it has its drawbacks, but through this 6 month journey to have it...I have to roll the dice. Exercise to lose weight isn't an option now for me...and that is the one and only way I can lose lots of weight....WW alone I can lose some, but not alot...I am too young to feel this badly every day because of my back/knees...I know the weight is a huge contributing factor to my pain...so hopefully the surgery will help me lose enough that exercise can become an option again for me so I can lose with it & WW....I used to love to bike and walk on my 'mill at the gym...I used to shoot for 600 miles so I woud reach Shekirk's house! So, I am thinking of the surgery as a help not a cure. I think people who think it is a cure are those who have trouble with it and gain it back...there is NO cure except eating less and moving more...the surgery is my key to being able to move more, I pray. If it isn't, I am going to roll the dice on the back surgery. Sorry to vent.
Happy New Year ! Grand

Hi all -I am about finished making my 2013 notebook with sections for each month etc etc etc

Today I am pulling out a meal plan that I lost weight on and was tasty - filled with veggies and once I started I did not long for any sweets at all - In fact chocolate stayed on my counter for a month and I finally gave it away - I read that we long for things when our body is not totally nourished -

As I mentioned my word for the year in FREE and my mantra is - I am free and unlimited - there are no chains that bind me -

I am idea-less for a new name -
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

I will be thinking about a new name........

Back from Tallahassee. It's overcast but warm here at home. Hope to go boating tomorrow.
Getting myself psyched up to start eating healthy and going back on a very restrictive diet plan that I was successful on before. I remember once I got going, I was feeling great and had little trouble staying on it. Of course, I have to get myself going.
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and will start a new topic on Jan 1st. -- any title ideas will be appreciated!!

Hi all
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
I'm in Tallahassee visiting our youngest. Thankfully, his ankle is healed and he has finished his first semester of law school. Now relaxing and waiting to begin next semester.
I go back to work on the 7th, and am trying to stretch this vacation as long as I can!
Once back - not too many days off until Spring Break.
Grand- I hear ya on the eating, I keep gaining and gaining but need to get a grip on myself because I really don't feel well with all this weight on me.
Today we went to see Mission San Luis - an old Spanish missionary and fort dating back to the early 1600's. It was great and I did walk a lot. Unfortunately, it was too cold and the wind was whipping up! Of course, too cold for me was 60 degrees, tonight it's 35 degrees so I'm not stepping out of my son's apartment! I only have a sweater - no longer own a jacket!
Have fun all! I'll try to get back on before New Years and we will break out a new topic for the new year.

Merry Christmas & Happy Hannukkah to all! Work & Christmas has kept me insanely busy the past couple of weeks...I've been eating, eating, and eating. I will fill you in about the surgery stuff later (it isn't happening for awhile....uuuuggggh!) I just wanted to say I love you guys! I miss ya! I am going to make a point to SP more often - I do better & feel better when I do. I hope everyone has a chance to rest, relax and enjoy their family & friends.

Shekirk - Happy Belated B-day! Miss ya, amigo. I;m out to the 2nd.
Baba- Did you get my email on your regular email? sent you some pics of Lucky & me. I would drive you, if I were there. I hope all well goes well with the dr. I like the word 'free'...I really like your thoughts on that.
All else - Hope you are enjoying your holidays!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Take care! Love, Lucky, Grand, & the gang emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi - for some reason I could not get on the site - better now

My word for the year is FREE - I am free to and free from. All other words I was thinking of seemed to be a plea for help - nurture - thinking I am a mess and need nurture.... nevertheless- things are bad but I will get through - BUT the word FREE keep popping up and tells me that there is nothing wrong - all is OK - and I am free to be thin - free to laugh - free to make a new life - free to choose - It is like starting from scratch - I am an empty vessel - and I can also use affirmations like I AM FREE TO CHOOSE HEALTH etc - so FREE it is - I am also free to breathe - take a breath - breathe in the future and breathe out the past - all adds up to starting over with a clean slate - no past junk - just FREE - Like writing a curriculum and starting out with just an idea - starting with new thoughts and new ways - so I am riding a turtle emoticon freedom train - with each stop a new adventure - a new learning curve - My LOGO is a horse running in the snow - fast a furious -free - happy - going in a new direction - etc -

started my 2013 notebook today -and am excited to get off the old train and get on a new Turtle Freedom Train - - this is one turtle running free - running wild and laughing ( guess that will wait til after surgery )

so guys as the new year approaches - let's get into gear and start thinking about a new direction - new thoughts - new ways - and ride this train together - It is time to break free from all that keeps us off track - can we do it??/ I say YES!

emoticon

Hi there,
Baba - if I was there I would drive you to the doctor's office. Around here, many of the medical practices have drivers to pick up their patients and bring them to the office. Do you have anything like that by you?
I'm finally on vacation - today was the last day until January 8th. This last week was exhausting and tense since what happened at Sandy Hook last week. Our school had all doors locked, outer gates also locked. Sadly, school is not a safe place anymore. We have many students who could be dangerous. Today many students did stay home- we had added police security too. Thankfully, the day was a nice one, with our chorus singing Christmas Carols and our principal dressing up as Mrs Claus. Really fun.
Take care all! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

really long few weeks - DD and her family moved out - stressful times - I have an appt for next surgery on Jan 22 and need to get a ton of tests done - problem is that I cannot drive and my kids work - so I have to find a way to get to these places. My oldest DD took off a few days when I have appts but can't take all the dates off. Not looking forward to surgery and then a stay in a rehab place - really want to be home - I will be glad when it is over and am praying and thinking positive that it will work and I will walk -

snowing right now - My grandson came over quick to get my mail - He was in my area taking kids home since it is snowing so hard- My kids managed to get a few decorations up for me -
taught my last lesson yesterday - and now I also am on break until Jan2 - today I sat and did paperwork all day - so much to catch up on -

Hope everyone is fine -just got this computer running today - was on the phone for such a long time with a tech walking me through stuff - still things wrong but that will have to wait - at least I can get on -

trying to figure out my new word for the year - It might be NEVERTHELESS -
times are tough NEVERTHELESS I will stay strong
no matter what NEVERTHELESS I will stay on track or I am Ok or something - not really sure yet - not too inspired right now -

Hi to everyone

Just back from a fabulous weekend in Orlando. My middle son and I share Dec. 16th as our birthday so we spent time together. We had fun with his girlfriend and her family. met her parents who raise Great Danes - they sure are big! Great time! Both my son his girlfriend work at Universal Studios so we had dinner at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville and the next day went to Universal Studios- all day - riding rides and just enjoying ourselves. Weather was perfect! My old body really walked a lot today! Back to work tomorrow.
Regards to all.

Sorry Baba - I just make potato pancakes. We serve them with apple sauce and some people like to eat them with sour cream. The oil used represents the oil in the lamp that lasted 8 days when it should have lasted only 1. That is the basic miracle of Hanukkah. Enjoy!

Hi there!
Baba - are you seeing the doctor this Monday? Let us know what he/she says.
Seems like you have some great plans for Christmas. Tonight is the first night of Hannukkah, but we need to go to Miami to the MIami Fusion Art Show - my sister-in-law is in this show.
We need to meet them down there for dinner and then head over to the show. I do have the menorah out and will light the first candle (bulb) tonight.
Time to fry potato pancakes (latkes)!
Enjoy the weekend all!

It seems like all the zest I had the last 2 years with a word of the year and all kinds of inspirational things around the house took a back seat to what really happened. I did however keep my 2012 notebook - I compile notebook each year with months- journal pages - interesting thoughts I find and cut out - and a list of what I have accomplished each month in certain categories like education, health, creativity, family, finances etc. It is neat to look back in the year and also to years before- but to me there is a sad factor - I seem to be struggling with the same things as I did a year or so ago - maybe there has been growth - maybe other things in life side tracked me - but I get hard on myself when I see that lack of visible progress. I am giving some thought to what the 2013 notebook will be and my word for the year - as well as my motivation saying - so far nothing !!

I saw a few flurries today - my grass is still growing and the weeds in the veggie garden are healthy and getting bigger. My small weeping willow in the front yard actually has buds and a few pussy willows in bloom - really weird-

My DD and her family are moving out at some point soon - I do not have a date and they are not saying yet I see things being packed - My oldest 2 will have to fill in the slack with chores as I cannot walk -or even move my one leg - I do see the new surgeon on Monday and hope to hear something that will give me hope - It seems to be such a long road - the last surgery made things worse - what a waste- but then I did not know-

so...I will have my 2 oldest and their families come to my house for Christmas - a buffet at 6pm since they need to be at in-laws as well - We have decided to celebrate with food from different cultures and faiths - talk about it all and then have a sing along with my grandson on saxophone and me on piano - and maybe bells for all the other kids - sounds like fun to me -

Hi to all - emoticon

Hi all,
Been busy this week. Did go boating for the first time in a long while and had a great time.
The weather is perfect here. 70's to low 80's and sunny. Really love it here this time of year.
I saw my cardiologist this weekend and I was up 15 pounds since I last saw him about 6 months ago. He said all is fine with me but I must lose the weight. His quote, " the weight will kill you". So, yes with the new year, new goals, new motivation, Start thinking of a name for the new topic.
Grand- your school sounds like ours. We also have career day - we invite people in the community to talk about their careers. The students really enjoy it. I also feel young people should try to find a different career. Teaching used to be so rewarding and no longer is.
I do hear you about the Special Needs students - we aren't staffed properly to allow for all the help these students need in mainstream. The general ed teacher does the best that he/she can, but our ESE staff can't be in there every day. It's been a very rough year.
Baba- start thinking about a new topic for the new year.
Oh, youngest is taking his finals this week, he finished one yesterday and has two more to go. It's so nerve racking since the only grade he gets for 3 of his classes is the final grade. One of his classes he gets two grades in.
Take care all!

Hey, all. I didn't make it to WW as I had intended today (work again). I am going to have switch WW weigh-in day, but we meet so often at school with little to no notice...I don't know what day to change to. My dr said I was up 7 lbs. I had a bad weekend, so I am probably up even more. I leave for Tenn on Wed after school, then, I will be back on Sun. I am going to enjoy my trip, get back on it when I return, I pray. Have a great week & weekend! Good luck & take care!

Hey, all! I haven't been to WW due to my job! However, I did have a dr appt today - I am back up 7 lbs ...but at least it wasn't double digits is what I am telling myself. My blood pressure is still up...my dr said, "Angel, your blood pressure on your chart has a pattern...it is down in June/July back up starting in August"....I said, "I deal with the sun & water - not 8th graders during June/July" lol Lucky had his new Santa pic made; wish I had time to delete some here and put up new ones...I will try soon. Is it still a 50 limit? Not too many parties for me...but I have my 'winter vacation' next week. I leave for Tenn on Wednesday, and come back on Sunday! I know I will eat very, very badly, but I will be doing tons of walking!

Baba - I tried to email you some pics...did you get them? I am so untechno! I hope you are doing better.
Shekirk - I am with you...do what we can til New Year...and start fresh Jan 1 - we need a new theme for our year??? Wish I lived where it is warmer; my aches/pains are getting worse & worse as it gets colder and colder here.

Education in KY - well, I tell former students who are pursuing education degrees to go into something else. I also tell kids I have right now to not choose teaching. We are following what is called the Common Core Standards; it does have a goal of more career/college readiness. I know high school level is responsible for x amount of students completing hs, completing college, or getting a career...following them if they dropout to still try to help- or their overall test score for the school is deeply affected because of these areas now. I am not sure what grade careers are studied for the first time. I know in 8th grade we have to have evidence we are addressing Arts/Humanities, Practical Living/Career Studies...while we have NO teachers to teach these subjects. ...so we have to throw in what we can throughout the year. Last year my 8th grade had a career day; we did projects - lots of community in....our 'wonderful' new principal did not want to do it this year. Students are simply test scores to our BOE and state dept of educ...I've even been guilty of saying 'he is a novice' or 'he will be a distinguished'...our testing scores are novice, apprentice, proficient, and distinguished - however, we are overhauling everything so what we call it may change again! And I hate that I have been guilty of thinking it. But there is so much pressure for test scores - we focus on that and very little of anything else except winning at sports at my school. Everything we do is geared toward testing. For example, at my school, 8th grade kids have 2 Math, English, and 2 Social Studies and NO science after their 1st 9 weeks....SS is not even accountable; they just want the big scores too impress. My English score is actually 3 separate test scores - students get an English score, a Writing score, and a Reading score..yet I get NO help. Did I mention Math also gets a Math tutor each year to pull kids out who struggle? We are also a 'full collaboration' school...the spec educ teacher is one of my best friends; however, she can't be in all the classes at one time...even though I am good at modifying...some kids need resourced, but it doesn't happen. Due to testing, many kids at the elementary level are put into spec edu just to improve test scores because those students get assistance with the state tests. Speaking of tests - I spend my time teaching to the test. Around Sept 20 we take the Explore test (like a mini ACT) so our first nine weeks is test practice nearly every day. Right after we take it (usually 2 weeks max), we take our 1st Think Link test & our first county practice On Demand (writing) test. We take NAEP ever so many years. We take Think Link 3 times in a year. 8th graders take a county reading/vocabulary test twice a year. We take the On Demand twice a year. Then, at the end of the year, the big KPREP state test. It has gotten so much worse due to the new standards. All this techno stuff teachers now have to do - and usually on our own time at home with lesson plans and things. The part of the day I enjoy the most is Advisor/Advisee time (25 min) - we are gender grouped. I have all girls. We follow Ron Clark's essential 55, we role play real world situations, I try to throw some health/exercise/diet tips to them, I try to throw some career ideas to them....it is just the time of the day that I think they really listen...I am not talking about a test...I am talking about things that really matter to them & that will matter in the future when they make decisions. Sorry for my rant. I wish KY state dept would experiment....let us teach - how we wanted and what we wanted - and give us just 1 test at the end & see what we do...

Have a great weekend! Good luck Take care. I hope all is well with everybody.

good idea - start fresh in 2013 - too much on my plate right now - as for the bed and sleeping - I think the sides of my mattress are really leaning and sinking - I seem to feel as if I will take a roll to the floor - I also sleep only a few hours here and there - up for a while - back down etc - thought it was the pain and all the issues - but you might be right - perhaps this mattress needs to go - it is old

Rest, sleep ! I seem to be having a war with my bed. I wake up after 3 hours and have to get out of the bed and find myself sleeping in the recliner . May be I need a new mattress ? I'm getting very tired of this routine. So I'm off to bed and hope all are doing well !

You're right Kayweb! It's so hard right now to stay on track. Too many parties and celebrations going on. We will start fresh in 2013. So, let's just finish out this year as best as we can and be ready to start anew with the New Year!
Nothing new to report. Just resting tonight.

Hello Everyone ! Thanks for the many comments on my questions about ED. Over time I have come to know that everyone has to fit into the program where they are. When I was in Nursing School at a comm. college I was in class with a student that was told not to tell her age or what she was up to. She is now a doctor! Her father was a doctor and four other siblings followed her to the same place. She did as you said, took her GED, entered comm. colllege for Nursing and then went on to Univ. for her MD ! The others followed her line of ed. for when they got out they could work their way easy with the nursing pay they got. I think that their father was very smart in setting them up this way. For they all got money from different places to pay off the comm. college cheap ! Oh well, I still feel that so many of the students leave school with no idea how to do "critical thinking" !!! And that was where I had made a statement that brought out this whole disscusion on education in America and found that I wasn't intelligent on the subject. I learn something new every day! I'm thankful for that.

As far as losing weight I'm at a standstill. Gaining nothing but also losing nothing. That is fine for right now. But come 2013, I want to get that moving back in the downward movement!
Here you about the parties and dinner gatherings. Find it hard to go out and deal with food. But I'd rather go out and be social than sit at home with the two Pups. They just don't talk back to me when I try to hold a conversation with them. Yesterday the Schwan's Man Todd, told me that he is entertained everytime he stops by . Why I asked. "Those two clowns of your's just crack me up" ! That was so nice of him to say. The Pups know that he brings the
"chicken" into the house so they really do put on a show for him. Bringing their toys to the living room for him to play with them.

Once again , THANKS for all the support and info on our children and their education situations. Blessings to all of you who are teaching in the school system. And for those of you like me did homeschooling you are blessed to have shared that time with those students.
Here is to each of us to hold our own during the holiday season.

Finally, also been eating out too much! There is an Italian restaurant - it's a chain - Maggianno's
If you buy one meal you take home another for another day. So, we went tonight, couldn't finish the dishes we ordered, so took that home along with two more dishes for another night.
I just don't want to diet and there's too many parties coming up after school and for Christmas and New Year's eve. I keep saying I'm going to watch it, but then eat anyway.
I do see that I eat only half of what I used to eat at a meal, so maybe it will work out.

Kay- I'm glad you have your confidence back. The education system is so difficult to navigate today. With general ed and special ed classes that blur the lines in education. My youngest also took classes on-line through Florida Virtual School - classes he didn't have time to fit in at school. He enjoyed them too. There's so many different ways of getting an education today. Also, I know some kids, Gifted - who dropped out of school, took their GEDs and went on the community college and then to the University and beyond.
My gripe is with parents who expect something for nothing. That their child should get an "A" when they didn't study for the test. I also feel Special Education has given artificial safeguards for some kids - they get so many accommodations, that when they get to the real world and these accommodations are gone - they won't be able to find or hold a job.
I try to explain this to parents - some listen, some don't care - they just want it now and they will worry about the future later. I am tired, but need to survive the system for a few more years.
Regards to all!!! AJ - you still amaze me!! That quilt is beautiful. Maybe when I retire, I'll take a beginning quilting class- I guess I need to get a sewing machine if I do.
Take care all!

My youngest DD was homeschooled through high school - Althoughtit was not mandatory for us, she did take the tests each years and scored either perfect or 98% - she had no trouble graduating at 16 and going to college. She was so bored in public school that she begged to stay home and learn - so staring 5th grade that is what we did - There are so many ways to get where you want to go - glad I am not teaching anymore - but I did love to homeschool -

Was talking with a friend of mine who's daughter is finishing up her univ. classes. She was home schooled and took the test at the school each year. They no problems getting her into the school that she was hoping to get into. She got a couple of scholarships and didn't take the AP classes due to being home schooled. They feel that they gave her credits for AP classes seeing that she had taken many different classes that they didn't offer at the school !
She didn't make up her mind until her Soph. year as to what she felt that she wanted to do.
They did try in her Senior year having her go to the school, but she felt as your sons did that the class room was to socially difficult due to the out of hand students that had no desire to get a good education and would cause confusion during the teachers instructions. etc. !!!
I'm just glad that I'm not in school these days. I didn't take upper class work. I just want to get out of the school system and get a job. It wasn't until a year after I'd finished that I made up my mind to go to college ! Started out with Comm. college here at home and then went on to other college campuses. That was some time ago ! Thanks everyone, I'm not feeling so stupid any longer.

We're back from Utah. It was a nice weekend with all our kids, but weird otherwise. The funeral went well, and we were glad to celebrate Janet's life.

I put a couple pictures of the quilt in my photo album. The one hanging is before painting. The one on the floor is after. We just outlined the hands so it's really not that bad.

Advanced Placement classes--Both our oldest and third sons were bored out of their minds in regular English, but struggled in AP English. The teachers lacked good communication skills, and our kids struggled knowing what was expected and when. Then they would get low grades for missing an assignment they didn't know they even had until the day it was due. We've come to the conclusion that "No Child Left Behind" means that all children get a substandard education. Our oldest felt that his previous education had been so low he was catching up just to keep his head above water in AP English.

Our oldest is now in college and got to the point where he wondered if he was just stupid or not properly prepared. He finally went in to be tested on reading because he thought maybe he really didn't read or comprehend as well as he thought he did. The test showed that he reads at a college graduate level and comprehends everything. The reading center hired him as a reading tutor very quickly. He now passes that information on to his siblings for free, which is great because our second son always struggled with reading.

I think all our children will go through the church school here in Idaho and then on to other universities. Our oldest is there now. The second is taking an online course through that school right now. He is taking a life skills class. Next is English and writing. Last will be a refresher course on math. After that he will have the choice to continue online or move to the regular campus. Im thinking the other two should do the same thing, but well see. James will be going on a mission next fall and Hannah the fall after that, so

I would have to ask the kids if they are choosing careers that early. I know when I was young I thought I had chosen when I started college, but changed my major twice before I settled. And then I realized just before I graduated that I probably had made the wrong choice. I chose education because my mom did and it would be something I could use if I needed it. I should have done something in finance. Thats where my passion lies.

Thanks for sharing what you are seeing in different area of the country. I only know what takes place in the avg. class room from when my foster daughter was in school two years ago.
It does make me think that my neice doesn't see the real picture of the school system. ONly the area that her daughter is in who wants to become a doctor. Which I think mon & dad are pushing and have been since she was one year old ! "This is our brain child who wants to be a doctor when she grows up." If you hear it enough that is where you head. When asked why she wants to be a doctor, she has no idea. When as a nurse I ask her questions about the profession she has no idea of what the job offers. What kind of work that she would be doing. Which really makes me wonder why she wants to go in that direction.
Thanks for all the info. I pray everyday for teachers, for just watching the kids walking to school and home at the end of the day. They drive me nuts. No respect for anything or anyone. Keep doing you best ladies, we as parents need to be doing our job of teaching the kids morals, right and wrong and not expecting that every child is equal and should all get the same marks etc. Back to the work force tomorrow ! Have a great week !!!

I did not teach AP classes even tho that was what I wanted - Ended up with regular high school English to kids who were not interested at all - I would walk by the AP classes and drool because in those classes a teacher can really dig in and they were better behaved - - My grandson is in all AP classes as a Soph and wants to get into great universities to play soccer - He is finding it fairly easy - altho as Shekirk says - it is not for everyone - My youngest went the community college route first - less money and close to home - but the competition is so great that kids who have their minds set on something specific need those AP classes - but I keep telling my daughter that tons of kids end up in great universities or colleges after an AA at a community college - In fact there is a community college in WA state that is ranked right up there with the best anywhere-

When we lived in FL there was a high school close by that was ranked in the top 10 in US - boy were those classes tough - There was something better than AP classes that not all high schools have - really tough - don't know if they still offer those - but the kids I taught piano to who were taking those music classes really had me on my toes

Shekirk - what are those classes called? I think the test results were sent to England or somewhere - just do not remember -

so glad no one required me to make a choice about a career so young - I followed the college prep courses in high school - but I changed my major 5 times once I was in = too much was too interesting - and then I also transferred schools and decided to take some neat classes at local universities over the summer just because it was something to do - perpetual student I guess -

right now I am taking an online art history class offered by a local college - it is fun and so informative -

cold and dreary here - going to my son's for an early Sunday dinner - I have eaten out so many times this past week -

Kayweb - I can't speak for the rest of the country, but in Florida - at least in my county, they are asking students in middle school to choose a major for high school. Students can choose, but nothing is written in stone, they can change their minds if they want to. AP does stand for Advanced Placement. My youngest did take many AP classes. An AP grade of A equals 6 points as compared to a regular A which is 4 points. This leads to a higher GPA or HPA when they apply to college. It is a competition to get into the higher ranked Universities. Not everyone fits that mold and they may start off, as my middle son did, in a community college and then move into the university after obtaining his AA degree. Or, there are many universities that don't require AP course work.
The AP classes, depending on what you score on the AP exam can lead to college credit also. My son earned 21 college credits due to the scores he received on the course exams. This allowed him to have extra credits left which he received money back for after he graduated.
He also had a 100% scholarship to school due to grade point average and SAT scores.
It is true, at least down here, that there is a definite disrespect shown in class towards teachers, with parents also not being parents and placing the blame on the teachers.
Things, that in the past, was a parent responsibility, is now a teacher one. Behavior problems has gotten worse in general classes, but in the honors classes, where many students want to learn it is better. I was glad when 2 of my sons qualified for honors and AP classes - they were with other students who were respectful and focused on learning. Few if any behavior problems were in the room.
I hope this answered some of your questions. Maybe Grandtee can give you some info on what she sees in her school system.
Take care.

Hello Everyone !!!

Attn: TEACHERS looking for info ! Having been called stupid and ignorant on Thanksgiving Day hope you gals can help me out of this name calling by getting educated.

1) I was told that the children now by the end of 4th grade have to declare what field of career they want to go into when they are adults. I'd not heard of this before have any of you?
2) That you can't get into any Univ. unless you have put time into AP classes. I don't get that, most children will never sit in an AP class. I didn't ask what AP stands for, I'm taking it that it means Advanced Placement seeing that my 15 year old Great Niece is taking those classes.

These parent are placing all their hopes and dreams on the students that will be graduating in the next 5 years. That scares me having listened to so many teachers complain of the moral make up of their classes. Have I been missing out on the changes that are taking place in the school systems. I think the teachers have their hands tied up when it comes to teaching.
The young lady that I spoke of here told me that they talk every day as groups about their futures and how they will be making improvments in the areas that they have an interest in. That all sound wonderful, but not every school student is working above their class level and many are having all they can do on a daily basis in remaining in school when they get to high school. Any words of advice as to what you see from your job stand point would help me out as to how far off I have become since my foster daughter was in school two years ago.

Hope you all are doing well. Any parents words would also help me get a better handle on what is going on in the school systems arcoss the USA ! Thanks

Baba sounds like you had a great time! Diet will come later, not during the holidays.
We also had a wonderful time at our nephew's home. Did miss having our other sons with us, but it couldn't be helped. Youngest ended up going to a dinner with other law students who also didn't go home.. Don't know what the oldest did. So much food, ate too much. My nephew's home is beautiful and he and his wife are wonderful hosts.
Love being off from work, but have to return on Monday. 20 days until winter break!!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Grand - hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful -and thanks for the invite - one of these days the amigos will get together for REAL !!

Shekirk - What a symbolic Thanksgiving for us - We used your suggestions and also went through the readings - don't know if people really do that - you will have to let me know - The part about the horseradish until it brings you to tears and the washing in salt water - maybe we got it all wrong - but we tried and had a wonderful discussion and fantastic food - Now for Christmas we are going to do an around the world food and tradition event - I might even have my entire family together at once - but it will be late Christmas night

I had my son and his family over for dinner - my oldest DD and youngest DD were not here as they ahd other plans - Today I go for leftovers to my oldest DD - I am stuffed and even tho I tel myself not to eat - the food was so delicious yesterday and we stayed talking at the table and simply kept munching -

youngest DD and oldest DD did try to go to Black Friday together - I think they spent 1 hour and then headed home - I guess it was a zoo -

I am counting the days until I see the new surgeon and see about the next surgery -pain is so much worse - and there is no activity level at all - so I cannot stand on a scale and thank goodness I don't know what I weigh - all I know is that my fat clothes are too small - so there will be a great deal of work to be done once I can move again

- there will be no seasonal decorating for me this year - all the surgery mess has been a lesson to me - I can do with a great deal less and survive

Have a great weekend to all !!

Hi all,
Just got home from my nephew's house. We go there each year for Thanksgiving. I was feeling sorry for myself because two of my sons weren't with us, but then realized I was having a great time and enjoying watching our middle son introduce his girlfriend to everyone. It was great evening and the food was unbelievable. I did make my chocolate chip coffee crumb cake and it was a big hit. I was surprised since so many other great desserts were also brought and they were great too. Did eat too much, so will have to get back on track!
Grand- thanks for the invite ! One day! Have a great time on your trip. We are home for now, and probably will go up to Tallahassee during winter break.
Baba- hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I haven't been able to weigh-in the past couple of weeks due to work...uggggh. Probably up a few lbs. I can't weigh in this coming week because of open house at school so probably the following week after that will be my next WW. Then, the next week after that is when I leave for Gatlinburg for my 'winter vacation' /shopping trip. I went to my 1st Christmas parade of the season last night - fun & perfect weather. Sunday, Lucky gets to see Santa & have his pic made. Still considering & taking all steps for the surgery...just scared. Baba & Shekirk-come have Thanksgiving with Lucky and me anytime! emoticon emoticon

Hi-

AJ - wish I could see your quilt- I am sure it is beautiful. I have a quilt my great grandmother made - all those tiny hand stitches - I am amazed at how the color has remained so vibrant - did you post a photo on SP - I will have to look - Prayers going your way for your family-

SHEKIRK - one of these years we will share food together in the same place at the same time---Hope you have a HAPPY Thanksgiving -

GRAND - thinking of you - Missing my Sasha but she is happy and I see her every week - I am not sure she even misses me - she is having so much fun

Thanksgiving is certainly go to be odd this year - my kids will be all over the place - so many family members on their in law side cannot make it on Thanksgiving so other days have been set aside - My son and his family is bringing dinner to me on Thanksgiving - then they will be at his in laws on Sunday for Thanksgiving - One DD is going to inlaws of Sat for turkey - other DD is at in laws on Thanksgiving day - gone are the days of everyone getting together at one time !!!

Finally getting my insurance straightened out -

rain and wind out here - next appt with surgeon on Dec 10 so hope it is all figured out by then. Found out I was covered by military insurance and did not know - so yesterday a friend drove me to the near by base and I got an ID - what a surprise to find all this out - now I have to get rid of what I had and re do a bunch of stuff - but this is such a blessing - don't know why I did not know about it -

Have a great thanksgiving to all

Hi AJ!
I did read your post before. I remember thinking how beautiful that quilt was( I saw it on FB) and how excited I thought your mom would be upon receiving it. Sad, she had to "fix" it. It truly is a beautiful quilt. I am so envious of your many talents! I did pull all my needlepoints and random wools, embroidery threads, etc. out of my closet. I have so many odds and ends threads, unstarted needlepoints, all sizes of knitting needles, and somewhere in this house crochet needles too. I just don't know what to do with any of it. Others would know how to combine all these leftovers into something beautiful.
Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Have a safe trip. Sending prayers your way.

One more day of work and then 5 days off! This year is so difficult and it's going so slow.
Need to get through it!
Take care all. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Written on 10/30. don't know if anyone saw it.

It's been a while again. I've been busy and focused on my eating plan. And I'm seeing some results.

Mom and Dad came for a visit and I was so glad to see them leave. I feel bad about that. I think they were both depressed, and it didn't help that I was feeling the same way. All mom and dad wanted to do was read. If I asked for things they wanted to do, they just said, "I don't know" and went back to their books. They didn't even talk much. Then mom would gripe every night that I'd spent too much time on the computer. Well, what am I going to do while you're READING?

On top of that Mom brought the quilt I made for the anniversary party and wanted me to help her color the hand prints because they didn't stand out enough and she couldn't tell where the different family groups were. I did it, but it was hard to not be offended. I don't know why I thought she would be happy with it the way it was. She never has been happy with anything. She always has to "fix" it.

Since then mom and dad are having some impatience with the people who are still living at home. Dad can't stand the thought of not helping, but I'm wondering if he's really helping or hindering. The rest of us had to put ourselves and our spouses through school while paying our rent and car insurance and everything else. Why can't they?

Things are going well here, otherwise. The temple open house is going on. That's where anyone can go in and look at it. I've been there three times to volunteer and twice to take friends. Here are some photos http://mormontemples.org/eng/boise/interio
r-photos

I'm really concentrating on my eating now. It was a big step of faith to get started after all the other methods that fell short. I'm down 5 pounds so far. Hope to keep it going through the holidays.

As of today...

My mother in law passed away Friday so we are traveling for Thanksgiving unexpectedly. The funeral is next Saturday.

Hi there!
Grand - missed you much here! Love the picture of Lucky in his costume for Halloween. He's so cute! We missed 1 day for Sandy and the county is not making us make it up thankfully.
Just had a week of grueling meetings - 3 very difficult ones in a row, one was started and then postponed until December- student is so disruptive that parents are complaining their kids can't learn when he is in their rooms - being ESE we have to follow specific procedures to get him to the placement he should be in and that is taking forever with the parents blocking us every step of the way. I know they will file for due process once we do try to move him, so most likely, he will continue doing what he is doing until the end of this school year. 3 more years for me and I am retired. Sad, that the joy of teaching is slipping away from so many. In our district it's all about testing, diagnostics and the teachers are tired of not being able to teach.
I did enjoy reading 50 Shades of Grey trilogy- I was having a love-hate relationship with Christian Grey!
Baba- any more news about your hip? I hope the doctors have figured out what the best course of action is. Hope the family is doing well. Our youngest had his cast removed and he is now in a walking boot for the next 30 days. DH is home and things are settling back to normal. Sadly, we won't see our youngest for Thanksgiving - middle son is bringing his girlfriend down to us to meet more of our family and we won't be able to drive back up to Tallahassee for just 2 days. Hard knowing I won't be able to see the oldest either - we still haven't heard from him and I'm not ready to contact him.
Not sure where everyone is - but hope everyone is well.

Hey, all. Sorry I have been MIA. I promised a friend on fb that I would do th 30 days of thankful so I've been on there. I am holding steady at the 24 lb loss status. We have meaningless meetings Monday & Tuesday at work so no WW weigh-in this week. I struggled the past couple of weeks up/down with the lbs..work & money stress. Still keeping my appts for the fat surgery; still not for certain about it. Halloween was fun for Lucky - Superman & a Pirate! I am on the 3rd Fifty book - I'm in love with Christian Grey! lol I did have a guy ask for my # but he still hasn't called! My aunt & daddy still struggling with their health. My brother coached an elementary girls team (on top of helping with high school boys) this year ...county champs his 1st year!
Baba - I'm having trouble with my desk computer, but you are on my list..I'm sending you some Lucky pics when it gets on track. I hate it so bad that you are in such awful pain; I know exactly how you feel, just my pain in a different spot. I hope you find a doc & med regiment that heps you.
Shekirk - glad you safe! We missed 1 day here - fear of snow, right after the big snow. Think of no news from the oldest as good news. I hate that you have been sick- I think it's the weather changes for many. I hear you on the parents!! I'm so sick of my job I can barely see straight.
Hope all is well with everybody ...have a great week! Take care! Good luck!!

Hi there,
Baba - hope you have a great time at the shower. Wish there was something they could do for the pain. 90 days is such a long time to suffer in pain. Would a wheelchair work so you don't have to try to walk so much? My son is finally out of the wheelchair but still uses his scooter to move around his apartment. Not sure that would work for a hip. Sorry the pain killers aren't working well. I have a knee that is bad but not to the extent of your hip. Just take it easy as much as you can.
Snow- I haven't seen it in years. It was in the low 70's today and beautiful outside. I sometimes feel like gardening, but then I realize if I get down on my knees I won't be able to get up!! If I sit on the ground I'ld have trouble getting up too.
Take care!

We have snow - just a little but enough to make everything look white - Today is baby shower for my youngest DD. My daughter in law is picking me up - I have no idea how I will be getting into the house where the shower is being held - I really cannot walk - just a few steps but huge amount of pain - meds do not touch the pain - surprised at that -

saw another doctor - I have to go back next month - he cannot treat me until 90 days after the last surgery - I had more test and all he really said was that it showed my hip is really terrible - This doctor specializes in the odd cases- still my older kids are fearful about what is going on - I do know that the last surgery made some things worse. It is so difficult not to be able to do anything - drive - cook - clean - sit - walk - stand - etc - There must be a lesson in this - but I do admit that it stinks ! YET - I read something the other day that made me realize that I have health in other areas and need to be thankful -

Shekirk - hope you are OK - thinking and praying for you and yours - love ya amigo !

Have a great weekend to all - where is everybody???

Love ya! Baba!! - I need all the prayers and I'm praying for you too. I sure hope one of the doctors can figure out what is best for you and your hip. Are there many specialists in this area by you? I know, here in Florida, there are specialists for hips, ankles, knees, etc. - each just specializing in one of the areas. My youngest is at the Orthopedic center in Tallahassee and he is seeing someone that only concentrates on ankle and foot injuries.
My middle son and his girlfriend just left to go back to Orlando. It was wonderful having them here even if it was only for two days. Looks like they may have purchased their first house together - just found out today and are waiting for final approval. Sad, that they are 3 hours away, but they will be only a few minutes from her parents. I miss them already.
Take care and regards to all of your family.

SHEKIRK - I hope you are doing OK - I have not been online lately and am sad that you are having these health problems. You have a lot on your plate and I have your picture out so I can think of you as I walk by and send all kinds of positive thoughts and prayers for you and your family

I had another doc appt for the hip yesterday - more xrays - I am glowing - and the already known fact that the hip is really really bad - BUT - I was told that I have not recovered from the last surgery and there is not way to really decide what to do until further healing takes place - plus by law I am under the other surgeons care for that surgery for 90 days and it has only been 2 months - so now I am home again - waiting until Dec for another appt and praying for more healing so the new doc can figure out what I should do - - I assume since I was told that the right hip is terribly horribly miserably a mess - that I am looking at a long process to be back up on my feet again - so - I am counting all my blessing and trying not to sweat the small stuff - the things I want to control - etc. what a lesson this is for me !!!!!

Teaching a little piano and doing some tutoring in writing and grammar - My youngest asked me to read an essay that she wrote for a philosophy class - I drive the kids nuts as they want my opinion on content and I keep stopping to correct or change or give ideas on how to word things more effectively - of course - the way I write with my dashes and dots is such a contradiction - but I am not being graded - When you count on the computer to correct grammar or spelling it is not as accurate and safe as the kids think

Have a great day !!

Still home, today I feel more like me. Still a bit light headed, but so far today no more heartburn or pressure in the chest area. Hoping this means I'm on the road to recovery.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi there,
Haven't been on because I'm not feeling well.
Heartburn, tight chest, etc. I went an had an EKG done on Friday and it came out normal, blood pressure ok,bottom number a little high but not in the danger zone. Heart rate normal and steady. Doctor said I had an infection in my right ear, a nasal drip and possible bronchitis. She gave me a cortisone shot and a strong antibiotic and no work until Weds. I started to feel better Friday night and Saturday, but still have heartburn now and wondering if it's the antibiotic.
Husband still in Tallahassee, so being alone here doesn't help. My middle son is coming down today to stay for a couple days and hopefully DH will be back by next week. The cast is off our youngest's ankle and he now has a walking boot.
I'm thinking a lot of this is anxiety from family issues and work issues.
Baba- we also family on Long Island and some have been without electricity for days.
Florida was lucky, we only had some rain and a little wind.
It's great to see the support the Northeast is getting from everyone and how the people of these states are working together to put their world back together again.

praying for those back east - I kept waking up in the middle of the night - giving thanks that I was safe while being so concerned for my aunt on the south shore of Long Island - only 1/2 mile from the water - I heard from her yesterday morning saying that the wind was actually lifting her windows open - tried to call her later but lines were already down. My brother in NJ is safe - I spoke with them through the day yesterday and again this morning - no power - trees down - can't go anywhere - - They stayed in their basement last night - I heard the house moan and groan and the wind sounded fierce - and that was from inside the house - I am praying that my aunt['s house as well as my cousins made it through - the devastation is terrible - I see photos of where I was born - and of so many places I know and it is sad -

I was happy to hear Gov Christie praise the President for efforts made so far - no time for party politics at a time like this - just time to work together and help - don't know how this will all play out with the election so near - but the main concern right now is helping the millions of people who need help - at least that is what I think -

hope you are all safe - let us know that you are OK if you live in the affected area - ad I hope all will send positive thoughts and/or prayers for those in need and those who are helping as well as the ones in charge -

have a good day

Hi there
Baba - 50 shades is an easy read - there is a decent story line once you get past all the sexual hype. After a while I found myself bored with the sexual activities but really interested in the characters and their issues. Still reading book 2 and without school will probably finish it and also read book 3.
It's so far not much of a Hurricane for us - it's really out over the Bahamas but the bands extend over us and the winds were getting strong - flashlights ready, candles ready, extra water - but right now it's very quiet out there, just a little rain. Hopefully, tomorrow will be an easy day.
It may be headed to the northeast and slam into NJ or NY.

Grand - Get that camera ready! I want to see Lucky in costume!!

We finally have some rain and they keep saying snow in the forecast but I don't see any higher elevations perhaps - Oddly enough the lawn guy still comes to mow!! I singed up for fall pruning and cleanup - last year it snowed before the guy could get it done - so we shall see - These days nothing much bothers me because I can't do anything about anything - I will take what I can get and let the rest go - Only 2 more weeks before I have more tests and see a new doc office for the hip. Finally the leg has healed and the "reaction" gone altho no one ever figured out what it was or what caused it = Hope this new doc will know because I don't want to go through that again !

SHEKIRK - I had no idea that there was even a hurricane coming your way - so out of the loop these days - you will have to let us know if you can get through SHADES - and how bad ii really is- I am ready a philosophy book right now - not my thing but it sure has me thinking-

still have not weighed myself - can't stand or even get to that scale - I woke up this morning knowing that it would not be good - so hard when I am not in charge of shopping or cooking -

GRAND - so glad to see your post -

have a great day to all

Well, Hurricane Sandy seems to be blowing in sometime tomorrow afternoon and we just got notice a few hours ago that tomorrow will be a 1/2 day at school and no school on Friday. Winds may be too strong for buses to run safely. I just hope they don't make us make up the day.
I guess I'll just nestle in and keep reading my books - Finally broke down and am reading 50 Shades of Gray Trilogy.

Hi Grand!
Miss you when your not here!
I am starting to really hate work. I used to love this job. I still like the kids for the most part, but the parents have really gotten out of control. If they don't get what they want they complain to the Dept of Ed at the State and they start an investigation or they just keep threatening to bring attorneys. I told my husband that I will retire at the end of next year if things don't change. I just don't feel we earn enough to put up with this abuse. It's gotten to the point, if we don't promise that the children will have straight A's and get "study guides" (with only the questions that will be on the exam) they call their attorneys. Teachers who catch students cheating- turning around, talking during exams - get told to prove it! I worry for this country - I guess I'll stop complaining now.
Hopefully, my son's cast will come off his leg this Monday and he will get a walking boot.
it's been rough, but he hasn't missed law school and hopefully is doing well. He really studies a lot.
Middle son is truly enjoying life - wonderful, adorable girlfriend, still working at Universal (happy, but not making much money), they just enjoy doing things and of course, in Orlando, there's always something to do.
Oldest -- no news.
Take care all -hopefully, I'll be in a better mood tomorrow.
Grand - you did make me feel better when I saw your post. Can't wait to see Lucky in costumes!

Hey, all. Sorry, I have been MIA. Work (new boss) is killing us. I am more than busy, more than exhausted every day. I have lost the 4 lbs I gained festival weekend. I lost 2 last week and 2 this week...so I am back 'even'...work, work, and then, in bed before dark on Fri/Sat is all I have been up to...so burnout already.
Baba - I am glad you are doing better. I'm so sorry you haven't seen Sasha. I am going to make time this weekend to email you some pics...Lucky will make you feel better.
Shekirk - My school is cancelled Fri (we have to make it up later); our high school's v-ball team made it to state tourney. I am sorry about the situation w/ your oldest; it will work out one day. Glad hurricane season is nearly over for you. I wish I lived at the beach - I miss Mr. Sun so, so much. I am going to try to make time to upload some pics on fb.
AJ - I hear you on the drs/meds. I hope you are doing better.
Bog - baby update?
Ny - won any shows?
Whimsy - How is Ohio going to vote?
Sandilee, MVS, Kay, and all else - hope all is well.

Have a great rest of the week. Good luck. Take care.

P.S. Lucky has 2 costumes - Superman and a Pirate...I couldn't buy just one! lol

Baba -So sorry that Sasha isn't with you. She would be such great company and comfort.
Glad to hear that the leg is healing, Sure wish you wouldn't need that surgery, but hopefully, it will help get you up and running again!
Well, our town is now in lock down- the last presidential debate is being held at Lynn University which is just a few blocks from me. It's such a pain when roads are closed. One of our local schools is too close so their school is also closed for tomorrow. I hope I don't have trouble getting to work tomorrow morning - I know going home will be a problem especially right before the debate. Funny, the last debate was at my Alma Mater - Hofstra Univ.
My youngest son has one more week before we think the cast will come off his leg. Hopefully, he will go into a walking boot and then be able to be on his own again.
Still haven't heard from my oldest. - he's out there and it hurts not knowing where he is or how he's doing. I just can't go back to the way things were.
Middle son - is happy and in a wonderful relationship. I get the feeling I will soon hear they are getting engaged. They live near her parents and I feel a bit jealous. I know that's not rational, just uncontrollable.

Hi - what a wind storm - wish I could go walking - I would love it -

Leg is clearing up - so I think I can go ahead with more appts and finally a surgery probably in January - I am getting worse with pain and mobility is about gone - what a lesson in something !

I miss little Sasha and have not seen her for 2 weeks - I know she had a swollen red eye and hope that is gone -

just a quick note - things are about the same here - leg is not cleared up so next surgery can not go forward - can't get an appt with the doc who does odd hip stuff so I have one in Nov with his assistant - hopefully all the leg stuff will be cleared up

It is getting colder here - we actually had a little rain last night and I think we are due for more - just a drizzle here and there -

Have not weighed but know that my clothes do not fit - only sitting and sleeping is not good -

Hope you all are having a good weekend

DH came in for the weekend. Youngest will still need help for another two weeks so he will go back up. Seems I do better food wise when he's here. Nothing new, weather is still very warm- 80's but less humid. Soon it will be perfect here. Evenings are already down in the 70's.
Hurricane season is almost over and we didn't have any again! Another safe season.
Back to work tomorrow - just watching TV today.
Regards to all!

Oh, I forgot. When I told the doctor what had happened with the new med (weird heartbeat, not keeping the water under control) all he said was, "You can go online and read all the things they say about hydroclorothiazide." Not one word about the new med he wants me to take that DIDN'T WORK! But still harping on how bad this one is. I'm sorry, but this one is doing the job and I hope to not be on it forever.

Wow!
AJ great job on your run!! So proud of you. Yes the doctor thing is a drag.
I had a blood test today and am really worried about the results. Haven't been eating right, not exercising, not sleeping right - miss dh and it will be a bit longer before our son can get a walking cast.
Of course he had a pink cast put on for the next 3 weeks!!! - He said it's for Breast Cancer Awareness month! I told him to write "save the tatas or I Love Boobies or something on it. He says the girls love it and all the football players are sporting pink too this month.
Hopefully, he will get a walking boot in three weeks and dh can come home! Thankfully, his grades so far are great even with the ankle issues.
Grand- so happy Lucky won!! I was voting and saw he was way ahead of all the others.
Can't wait to see some Superman Lucky pictures!
Baba- any more news? What are the doctors saying now about your hip? I am praying the find the right diagnosis and you're running around soon.
Take care all, just so tired - work is so busy and then I'm not used to being alone- can't wait for dh to get back.
Regards!

Man, oh man, do I HATE doctors. He had me do a ton of blood tests. Cholesterol, blood sugar, PCOS stuff.

The results:

"Everything is pretty much normal except your triglycerides and we can take care of that with diet and other lifestyle changes."

Well, I could have told you that! That's nothing new!

He was concerned about my prolactin level. It's a bit high. He said, "We'll test it again in 3 months and if it's still high we will need to do some other things to see what's going on. It could be a growth on your pituitary gland."

I worried about that all day and finally had a chance to do some research. PEOPLE WHO HAVE A GROWTH ON THEIR PITUITARY GLAND USUALLY HAVE LEVELS OF 100 OR MORE. Mine is 28...8 points too high.

ELEVATED PROLACTIN COULD BE CAUSED BY---------

PCOS!!!!!

AND

HYPOTHYROIDISM!!!!!

So after all that...

I didn't learn anything new.
I still don't have a diagnosis of PCOS.
And I worried about a tumor I probably don't have.

Oh, and THERE'S A DRUG FOR THAT!

I turned down the drugs to lower my triglycerides, and then I learn there's a drug to lower prolactin, too. And all these drugs do is cover up the real cause for the numbers being elevated. THEY DON'T CURE ANYTHING!

If I ever get off the drugs I'm on I will never see a doctor again. I'm seriously thinking about putting a DNR in place right now. They're going to kill me anyway. Just as well let them do it and get it over with.

Hey, all. I gained 4 lbs this week... I knew it was coming. I went to the local festival here on Thur/Fri & out to eat/mall on Sat night plus it is time for 'Aunt Maggie' to visit...so even though I walked and walked ...I own the 4 lbs...but they WILL be gone next week. I missed work today...cold/rainy weather has both my knees, my back, and my arthritis really flared up...I stayed in bed with Lucky the entire day until it was time to go to WW. So tired..I need another fall break.

Have a great week! Good luck! Take care!

We are doing good. Hannah is pretty much over the pneumonia. We go back in about a week for a final check, but she's feeling good.

Tom, Hannah and I ran the Barber to Boise race yesterday. It went well. I've blogged about it so you can check that out. It's called BARBER TO BOISE. It even has a few pictures. I figure out that I cut 1.2 minutes per mile off my regular pace. No wonder I'm stiff and sore today. Ow!

My nightmare was that I'd be so late getting back that everyone would have gone home. That didn't happen. I finished last in my age group and next to last overall in running. There were 3-4 walkers behind me.

Hey, all! Lucky won the Cutest Pet contest here in my county - $250- we don't get our check for a couple of weeks. He had a full page in our local paper. I lost 6 lbs this week - down to 280. However, I had 4 day weekend this week....I just got home from local festival here called "Apple Days"...I had Mexican dinner with my friend tonight, and I had a fried apple pie from the festival....I cheated, but it was all I ate the entire day...but I did do tons of walking last night and tonight down there. I enjoyed it, but better tomorrow.I had my last day in pool today - my friend is closing her pool down this weekend.
Baba-hope you are feeling better; I hope you don't have to have surgery. Lucky is Superman fr Halloween this year - too cute.
Shekirk- I hope your son is okay. I hear you on the stress and things never seeming to go right...that's my life in a nutshell.
AJ. Sandilee, Bog, Ny Kay, MVS and all else - hope all is well.

Take care and enjoy the weekend.Good luck!

DH still up with our youngest. They saw the doctor on Monday and a new xray was taken. He must stay off the ankle for 5 more weeks. If the space doesn't shows it is growing smaller - must stay less then a millimeter or he will have to have surgery. So DH is up there - taking him to school and helping him at home. I had to go back to work. DH hates it, he says he never has time to rest!!! I just smile- now he has a small idea of what raising 3 kids was like and holding a full time job!! He only has to take care of 1 and not worrying about work.
Baba- I sure wish you could get out and you had some positive information about your hip. Did the infection clear up? Did they figure out what the problem really is? Keep us updated on your progress!
AJ - I need to learn your resolve - I can't get my act together. I thought with my dh gone possibly for 5 weeks, I would start watching what I eat and surprise both myself and him with a weight loss by the time I see him. Of course, just cooking for me has led me to make some lousy meals and snacking. I keep looking at a beautiful cantaloupe, but don't cut it up!
Kayweb, Grand, Sandilee, Victus - hope you all are having a great week!

Baba, I hope you get answers soon. This is why I hate doctors.

We took our daughter to the ER Thursday night/Friday morning. We were glad to only be there 2.5 hours, but 3 am is awfully early. Made for a rough night. She has pneumonia, but is doing much better now. She says she feels almost normal. She just rediscovered Saturday morning cartoons. The kids haven't watched those in years. ha ha I was so exhausted last night that I went to bed at 10 pm and didn't hear a thing until 8 this morning.
