Stumbled across this little "bit" on Wikipedia while looking up info about fibromyalgia and guaifenesin (the active ingredient in Mucinex and other mucus-thinning over-the-counter meds):
"Guaifenesin is a uricosuric, increasing excretion of uric acid from the blood serum into the urine. This fact was discovered by chance, during a survey of hypouricemia in hospital inpatients. "
I don't have time today to look much further into it, but that would mean that Mucinex should theoretically lower the plasma concentration of uric acid. Wonder if any studies have been done on this? Stay tuned!
Sadly for fibro sufferers, guaifenesin doesn't seem to perform any better than placebo.
Labour is prior to, and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labour, and could never have existed if labour had not first existed. Labour is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. Abraham Lincoln
