No flare-ups since March 20, 2012, and my Uric acid level is normal. Wonder if I need to be on Allopurinol. I only had flare-ups from Sept 2011-Mar 2012, while off low carb.

Also have no idea why I have no problem eating 1.5 lbs of meat a day. I have even started eating unsweetened applesauce ( 4 ozs. ) with breakfast. Still limiting most sugars, even cheese to several times a month.

Wondering if it is related to my diabetes, and that is why sugar seems to be the only cause of flare-ups??

Haven't posted here in a dog's age! I'm digging my way out of three months of crazy busy-ness at work, so I'm hoping to find more time to post and check in with everyone.

Jibbie, I couldn't agree more about the wheat. My sister is finally on the verge of giving up on it herself, and she's the LAST person I would have thought that would have turned her back on it. But she's got reflux and anxiety issues and is starting to develop arthritis in her hands and, well, if you've read the book you know what all can go along with it. Unfortunately, my niece, who also has anxiety problems and IBS, is still pretty resistant to the notion. Me, I don't have such a problem that I can't have any wheat at all (a bit of breading won't do much harm) but every time I have even a cookie I pay for it in pain!

Hope your flare died down quickly and you're back to normal!

Got a flair up today from my Gout. Not sure if eating the chicken yesterday did it or if the bacon I had is the problem. Going to stay away from BOTH.

I'm reading "WHEAT BELLY" by William Davis MD and I've stopped eating wheat which seems to be helping me not have swelling in my feet. That increases the pain when I have a "flair".

Also has not had an attack in many months. Dilute cherry concentrate in my Sparky water, once a day keeps toe pain generally away. No meds, still.

Today it has been 6 months, no attacks, and my last Uric acid test was low. Low carb seems to be doing the trick. I am still waiting to just have a horrible attack one day, buthasn't happened. Kidney beans, cheese, mushrooms, or lots of meat seem to be no problem. What does it for me is pop, sweets.. basically sugar. I have not even had to be real strict on the food, as long as it is not pop or sweets. I gained 43 lbs over the summer, after losing 145, and just got strict again on the 1st, and have lost 12.6 again in the last 20 days.

I have been exercising 90-150 minutes a day, even during weight gain, so hoping to get back to 220 by Halloween, but with better fitness. No gout issues helps with that, since I can walk.

I have had attacks for the past 10 years, but I am having them much more often now, so that is why I'm really making an effort to learn about them. I have it in my wrist now and not just in the big toe areas, so that is a concern to me as well. Reading "THE SUGAR FIX" by Richard Johnson M.D. has really helped me understand it more. Beans are something I can't eat as Kidney Beans give me a big flair.

Russell, the challenge for me usually has been being certain one is completely gone. Sometimes it will linger for days like the tail of a comet. That said, without any question, for me the combination of weight loss and limitation of citrus & beer (triggers previously not realized for me) have lengthened the times between flares.

Woubbie needs to bottle and sell her research-based advice.

I figure it would be a good idea to keep track of them. I hear a lot about experimenting, but feel like keeping a public record of how long it has been. This way, I will know how long it was between attacks. Not sure if I can tell if what I am doing is the cause of less, or more time between attacks. However, I tend to think longer between attacks, means I am eating foods I should be, and if I have them one after the other(attacks), I guess, I am eating something bad for gout sufferers.

This is far from scientific, but who cares, right? My doctor can't even tell me what I should be eating. You would think he could Google it at least. So I am going to start a post with my last 2 flare-ups.. and update it when I have my next one.. I will only put dates in that one. Any remarks will be in separate posts like this one.
