I take Vit D every day because of a severe deficiency that I was diagnosed with last year, but keeping up with my calcium is always a challenge for me. There's some of it in my daily Vit, but not the full amount for the day. I strove to reach it with a yogurt, some cheeses, and a glass of skim milk with dessert yesterday.
My calcium has ALWAYS been low - being allergic to dairy & not liking the tastes of most of its products certainly doesn't help!! I've been meaning & trying to find alternative ways to get it up to daily levels, so this will help push me to do so today!

Usually not a problem for me, I have yogurt and cereal with milk most mornings and I also eat a lot of sardines.

This is a challenge for me, too. Yogurt, cheese, skim milk, on my list. Spinach, too?

Yes, vitamin D is important for your body to be able to absorb calcium. Here's an article that explains some of the other reasons it's important to get enough vitamin D and ways to get it. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_art icles.asp?id=1357

Am I right that your body needs vitamin D3 to absorb calcium?

This is a big problem for me, I do take a couple of supplements (calcium) but try as I might, I just can not get enough, I have problems with fiber also, and some of those like magnesium, I am so far off, but I do try to stay within range and get as much fiber as I can, I eat lots of beans

Calcium plays an important part in maintaining health. Your challenge is to determine if you met your daily calcium requirements today. (If you track all of your food on Spark, take a minute to look at report of how you're doing with calcium over time.) If you're not getting enough calcium, think of ways that you can include more calcium in your regular diet. Need some ideas? Check out these articles, including one that shows non-dairy calcium sources.
