Zumbathons are a great challenge, but I recommend trying to do at least 2 classes low impact in a row before trying to do a Zumbathon. Is like training for a marathon... you dont try to run the whole 5k the first time around.

As any other workout, make sure you have a good meal (preferably carb-loaded) and plenty of water in between so you can survive it. Most of the people I hear that cant walk the next day is either because they tried to do too much the first time around, or because the muscles are dehydrated. Also, it is SUPER IMPORTANT that you have a good stretching session before and after, to make sure those muscles are prepared for what's coming, and relax after the intense workout.

I'm a Zumba Instructor and I do and teach Zumbathons often... and I can tell you... and any other workout that you do for more than hour... you should prepare physically and mentally before and after.. and HAVE FUN DOING IT!!!

If you have any other questions, feel free to SparkMail me :)

Yes, I have done two Zumbathons! One was three hours long and the other was four hours. Both were fundraisers. One was very well planned and organized and the other...was not...but they were both good exercise.

It was a great experience and something I never would have thought that I would be able to do...but I made it! Make sure to stay very hydrated, take Gatoraide and snacks (sometimes these are provided and sometimes not) and just keep your movements a bit smaller than usual. Try not to let your muscles get cold if there is a break or intermission during the event. Don't plan to be able to walk much the next day!

Also, take a change of clothes for afterwards...I don't think I have sweated so much ever and my clothes were soaked through.

I had worked up to exercising at least an hour a day every day before I tried a Zumbathon, and I was doing 2.5-3.5 hours of in-person Zumba classes each week in order to prepare.

So, I have decided that instead of training for 5K race or something like that I would begin to work up to participating in a Zumbathon. There is one scheduled near by. Has anyone done a Zumbathon? Does it seem like a good challenge?
