One thing I did was look in my agenda and see that that there are still x days until Christmas. I realized that I can either say 'oh forget it' and overeat until the New Year OR I can still use these x days to work on my health.
I think this is an issue for many of us who are emotional eaters. Food is everywhere and if we get sad over the Holidays it is easy to eat way to much. I am not letting myself turn to food, but inside doing more reading.
