Last night I worked late and just bought some bagels, turkey and veggies for dinner. I was thinking it might not be enough food, or fear a little that I would just keep eating the bagels. My habit of eating just one plate of food kicked in, and I ended up leaving some food untouched. I was full and content for the rest of the evening. It is so worth sticking to an eating plan with no random eating whether I know what's going on for me or not. emoticon

Tonight, using the 'eating coach' on Shrink Yourself, I was able to stop my craving for ice-cream. It really helped to delve into all the reasons WHY I was craving a specific food in response to emotions I am having. It's funny, doing research on oneself for the purpose of dieting, causes me to become stressed, which leads me to wanting to eat! Talk about a vicious cycle! But I held it at bay long enough to seek help, and it worked. The 'eating coach' is a great tool,. highly recommended, and highly effective.

I feel better now that I didn't give in to temptation. I chose to take a bath instead.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!

I am so happy to have the free e-book so I could start right away. The Shrink Yourself idea is a great one to help those that cannot afford traditional therapy. I am optimistic, as I have read much of the webpage successes regarding this program, and it comes with the highest recommendations. I hope others will speak up, I am sure there are some out there 'lurking'. To those of you thinking of joining this group, I strongly urge you to reach out for help. This is not a place to be judged or put down, but all of us have the ultimate same goal, loving ourselves enough to finally get the help we need! You are so, so worth it! Take a chance, what do you have to lose? You have all the tools before you, just do it!

Hi Rose, I too would love to see some activity on this team! I was excited to find this team and have been disappointed that it wasn't really active. I bought the book instead of doing the online program as well. I've committed to reading every day and find myself constantly agreeing with what I'm reading as to why I chose to keep myself overweight. I figured that I would read the book and if I thought I would get something out of it then sign up on-line. I see that this team no longer has a leader. I'd be willing to do it and try to revive this group. I would love to have the support of others going through the same program as I am.

Is there anybody out there that would like to see this team get active again? What do you think? Would you be willing to help get the group back up?

Just ordered this book, saw a reference to this team on the reviews for the book at Amazon. Hoping to get through the barriers this time. I keep going up and down the scale, hitting the same wall, and never being able to break through!

I bought the book. I committed to daily exercise and tracking what I eat. I am ready.

I want to join the online Shrink Yourself, but need to save up some money first. I figure I'll read the book, and go from there.

Thanks for having this team. I see it's been awhile since there was any activity. If anyone wants, feel free to contact me on my sparkpage so we can discuss this type of online help.

Rose

almost an hour-haha -kidding.
I walk about a 17 minute mile, so 6 x 17 = 102 minutes. approximately. I don't feel like I am going that slow but I am. I am working on my lines while I do it so I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm crazy. Which, actually, they are correct.

I felt SO great at the gym today.
Although I have weight to lose I am so pleased about how good I feel, doing cardio, and how easily my heart rate drops when I am done. I think I have a true athlete in me just waiting to get out. emoticon

I have put my binge behind me. I am not going to buy into the psychological trap of thinking this eating issue is deeper and more complex than I am able to deal with.
I need to eat less food, and spend less time eating.
I am not going to buy into my own psychological BS anymore. I have dealt with it and I am an adult and I can start making new choices without this tyrannical five year old demanding sugar every day.
I forgive myself and I am moving on-

Carmen I can totally understand why that would be a great triumph!
To be able to control ourselves around foods that usually encourage a binge is excellent!!

I feel very proud and happy with myself!!! Last night, I went to Pizza Hut and I ordered Gilbertini. I ate slowly and until satisfy, but not stuff. so I bring home half of the serving. I only have a cup of wine and 1 scoop of ice cream.

This is a triumph for me cause, first of all italian baked food is comfort food for me; at at another moment I would order, a cup of wine and an appetizer, then another cup of wine and the main course, with the main course I will order a soda and finally a cookie dough sundae. Finally I would eat everything until stuff.

Yesterday was satisfying supper with myself!

LadyAndrea, I'm so happy that you made the investment in yourself.
What a keen observation, too, that your list of motivators to get yourself healthy is longer than your motivators that keep you bingeing. When I wrote my own list, it was very, very close. I really wanted to hold onto my binges! What I am finding as I progress through the program (I still have my ups and downs) is that I am not blaming myself as I always did, but I am also taking more responsibility. I'm letting go of the self hatred as I embrace my life and set loving limits, which is something I rarely did in all of my decades of bingeing.
My binges, I'm finding, were a very immature way of reacting to what was going on around me. I felt totally powerless. I don't feel that way much anymore.

I have a good day! emoticon

I did the introduction part, at the on-line program. I am relieved to find out that it is not all my fault, that I not damage with lack of will power as other people mentioned before. I discovered my motivations to lose weight, which are more than, the motivations to keep eating. I print out, both lists on my motivations, to have them on hand and go back to them whenever I need to.

I have a very calm day and ate only when hungry.

Thank you for mentioning the on-line program.

I do like counting my binge-free days right now, because it reminds me that I'm trying not to binge...LOL...I can go either way. My brain is always trying to quantify my eating in some way-old habits die hard-and being binge free seems to be a way of simply doing it for me that doesn't really judge.
My goal is to think as little about food as possible, eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm satisfied, and rather than having my mind go over everything I ate, knowing that I didn't binge helps me to let it go at that.
But I am open to whatever works -

Then I think this should definitely be a "triumph board" rather than a no-binge board. I agree with you.

It is good to have a place to share our triumphs, but I am not so sure about the psychological effects of counting binge free days. My concern is that we should work on avoiding emotional eating as much as possible, but defining a binge free day makes us make a judgement about "how much is too much" that quantifies it so much that it is like a diet.

I'm active in a support forum where quite a few of the members try to abstain from sugar and count their sugar free days. The problem that I see is that they go along sugar free for a certain number of days, then "blow it", then judge themselves, and usually struggle with excess sugar consumption and sometimes takes weeks or months to bounce back.

For me, I look at any time I that I eat for emotional purposes, like when I catch myself eating a handful of peanuts and realize I wasn't really hungry, as emotional eating. I try to get right back on the plan of eating when I am physically hungry. I purposely don't set a level I define as a binge--- I just strive for a lifestyle that is about eating for health, not to manage feelings.

If counting binge free days really seems to work for you, then it's good to share that. But I just wanted to throw out my idea that quantifying binge-free days might lead you to think in all or nothing ways that make it harder to get out of yo-yo type eating.

Yes, I totally stole this from another group, lol, but it's so important to have a place to share our triumphs! Let's check in each day we are binge free and see how quickly we can rack up the weeks, okay? Also, if there's a little tidbit you can share about what made the particular day binge-less, what you did or said to yourself to overcome the impulse, that would be wonderful, too.
