I remind myself how bad I feel after a binge. And I remind myself how hard I have worked to lose weight. It's not easy to talk yourself out of a binge.

I have found that when I really want to eat something "bad". I eat a little then, get right back on track, that way I don't feel the need to go crazy-eating everything in site.

Last night I went out with friends. I had way to big of a dinner, some dessert, and some drinks. I know WAY to many calories. I went to the gym yesterday morning and did a extra hard workout because I knew I was going out and was going to indulge. This morning, its right back to the plan, no beating myself up or pity eating. Just back to eating right and I will probably do some extra workouts this week to make up for the extra calories

I try to remind myself and emphasize that bingeing will make me feel bad longer than it will make me feel good. I am starting to identify that eating sugar, milk, and wheat really *do* make me feel bad after the initial trance-- now I just have to keep reminding myself that good feeling just doesn't last near as long as the bad feeling.

I think the message to never give up is part of what helps. I also think we need to recognize progress. Progress is not going from binging all the time to never binging, that's just a miracle! Progress is that we notice the time is longer between binges and the binges are shorter and the amount of food consumed is less. Without being conscious of it we have told ourselves not to binge (hence the longer and longer time).

That said, I find it helps me if I catch myself to say to myself, 'If you are really hungry come back to eat in 15 minutes'. Also if I right down my feelings at that time I can sometimes catch bad feelings that I am trying to drown in food.

Great post!

I'm the same as Colleen, I'm fine until I fall off the wagon, then I struggle for ages to climb aboard again.

I can't wait to see more ideas from the team.

Colleen, as you say yourself, the only failure is to quit trying. :-) Tomorrow is a brand new day to test out your pedometer and get on the path to renewed dedication to saving your own life.
I love the cherry Pepsi too. At Subway, where you can mix your own, I've found that adding a little cherry Pepsi and then almost all diet soda still gives you that lovely cherry taste and probably saves you hundreds of calories. Try it next time you need a soda fix.

Thank you for posting this question. I have nothing to offer on the subject but sure could use some help. I was doing really well and then my husband brought home some donuts and I'm now on day 6 of a binge. I can't seem to stop and all I can think about is getting the gas station on my way to work to get a real Wild Cherry Pepsi, forget the diet version.

I don't like myself too much right now, and I'm afraid to get on the scale to see what kind of damage I've done so far. The only upside is that I did manage to buy a decent pedometer today.

I have to get back to reading the book and posting to my blog again. And of course, quit slamming food into my head.

Hi, everyone,

I am finding that when I have the urge to binge I say to myself rather passionately, "eating won't help!" I say it out loud as well. In that emotional moment I need to speak the truth to myself, and speaking this out loud has been working for me.
What do you say to yourself when you are trying to resist a binge?
