Kudos to you if you can use your trainer...! I tried my son's once and it was so NOISY! I hear slick tires help to quiet them, but I'm not very handy in changing over tires, also wouldn't want the added expense.

Missing my cycling time during the colder temps but I will appreciate it all the more in the spring when I get going! :-)

Spinning class also helps in the meantime.

I have a trainer that I put my bicycle on. Problem is I have to use It emoticon . I have recently joined water aerobics and am planning to supplement with the trainer. I would really like to ride with my husband who is an avid rider and my goal is to do just that this coming spring emoticon

If it is to be, it is up to me.

We've got a trainer to put our bikes on in addition to elliptical and workout Dvds. But were layering and riding outdoors as often as we can.

I've just slapped some gloves on my fingers and gone out for my usual bike rides anyway!

Re: Spinning...it really is what you make it. EVERYONE can spin, you may need to sit out some of the standing cycling, but you can still be whizzing along with everyone. When one cranks up the resistance it is up to YOU what your body can handle.

Spinning can be a blast...give it a whirl!

Walking is always a good bet, any time of year.

Almost all of my exercise is done outside! I have been trying to figure out what I'm going to do in the winter! I thought I'd move walking to my indoor treadmill, although on not so bad weather days I might bundle up and walk outside. I thought about trying a spinning class but I ride slow and not that far so I don't know if I could keep up with a spinning class! Any advice about winter exercise?

When I started writing this I thought I didn't do that much outdoor activity other than biking but then I thought about my mid-day walking breaks, running 2 or 3 times a week and golf. Timewise, I still think I do most of my fitness indoors even in the warmer months - elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, weight training, basketball, racquetball, jumping rope. As it starts getting colder I plan to keep biking to work at least occasionally but getting dark early makes it harder because DW doesn't like me biking home in the dark. So I will ride the stationary bike more to keep in biking shape. I will move my running indoors because we have a pretty good indoor running track - I won't run on the dreadmill, just walk. I'll still do my mid-day walking breaks outside. The rest will probably be pretty much the same but I have started to slowly ramp up the intensity.

I'm hoping to ride a little longer into the winter this year, and start a little earlier in the spring. Once it's too cold though, I try to mix it up by switching to a different exercise entirely...probably swimming or deep water running this winter.

I move 'er indoors with my fitness center and spinning class. BUT: I also pray to the snow gods so that I can still get outdoors with my cross country skis. Bought 'em used last year, only able to use ONCE due to the warmer, drier winter...grrr! I rarely cycle outdoors in the cold weather. Bundling up against the cold just runs too counter to being able to enjoy being on my bike.

The days are shorter, the air has a chill in it in the morning and we are now falling into winter. What if any adjustments are you making in your workouts? How are you planning your workouts if you have been doing them primarily out of doors, what will change in your programme? The Fall and Winter can be prime times to take the opportunity to reassess your goals and adjust your workouts. The change in seasons can change our approach to fitness for the good if we become creative. What are you planning to do to adjust to the change of the seasons?

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.
