I used to ride my bike everywhere as a kid. Take off and try to get myself lost in my city, exploring residential streets I didn't even know were there. A few months ago I was given a bike by a friend and it has changed my life. I like to wander and would have to drive for miles and miles to get the itch out. Now with my bike I can ride as long as I want and still be local enough for my husband to come get me if something happens.I don't do as much bulk shopping so that I can ride to the store every day to pick up little things for that night's dinner. I find I make up excuses top get on my bike and go and now my young son is out enjoying this new life with me. I love it and this seems like just the team I am looking for.
Don't have a bike yet, but waiting for a phone call that I can pick up the BIKE OF MY DREAMS: It is a 7-speed, Biria Easy Boarding model with a 40 cm frame. This was orginally a Dutch Ladies' Commuting bike, and could easily be worn with long skirts.

When I was a kid I practically lived on my bike! Recently I was trying to find a exercise thart I enjoy and decided to try biking! I love it but not as good at it at 50 as I was at 10. I get my mail and go to the library with my bike! I go on rides through our local parks and out in the country to visit one of my friends! I go 3.5-5 miles at a time so far but I hope to increase that soon.
When I was younger, I biked everywhere. You can see things and smell things that you can't from a car. Biking IS fun! I so long to be able to get back on a bike and peddle for hours. Right now, it's hard for me to just get down to the next block. But, I'm determined to get there.

The creator of this team called Slow Riders posted the mission statement for the team in a sticky topic but is buried under the many replies. I will post it again to serve as a reminder.
"Take the hammer out of cycling and put it back in the tool shed ! Slap on some saddlebags, fill them with a picnic, your latest read, camping stove to make some tea or coffee at that lovely SweetSpot you know of. Meet a friend in town, cut your grocery bill into little bits, toss your car keys ! Bicycling isn't merely a sport, it is a way to be in nature and tour your home town ! Whatever your fancy, lets slow down and enjoy the art of bicycling to BE places, not just going places. Bicycles can be a very positive lifestyle, especially in the environmental issues of modern times... and so lets dip our toes in and share our experiences here."
It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.
I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.
Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.
Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit
You can not build a six pack using twelve packs
Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.
