Thanks, DDORN, and you are right! It does include the caloried burned! Guess I will just remove my FITBIT while biking to avoid double reporting of the calorie burn.

Welcome aboard, here we use our bikes for enjoyment as well as fitness, they are an integral part of our daily lives.

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.

What a wonderful team! This is what I need.

I LOVE bike riding.

Don't have a bike yet, but waiting for a phone call that I can pick up the BIKE OF MY DREAMS: It is a 7-speed, Biria Easy Boarding model with a 40 cm frame. This was orginally a Dutch Ladies' Commuting bike, and could easily be worn with long skirts.

To see what this looks like, follow the following link:

biria.com/series/easy-boarding

This is shorter frame (15 inches from top of seat pole to center of peddle). It is great for my short legs, and the step-through feature allows me to side step off the bike in case of a spill.

Is anyone out here familiar with this line of bikes????

Can't wait to start riding!!!!! I has been a long time, and I know how much I am going to enjoy it.

Glad to find exactly the right team for just bumbling about town!

Oh, and one question: I wear a Fitbit which counts steps for walking or running, plus calories burned, but it doesn't work on a bike.

How does one measure calories burned while riding a bike???

When I was a kid I practically lived on my bike! Recently I was trying to find a exercise thart I enjoy and decided to try biking! I love it but not as good at it at 50 as I was at 10. I get my mail and go to the library with my bike! I go on rides through our local parks and out in the country to visit one of my friends! I go 3.5-5 miles at a time so far but I hope to increase that soon. emoticon

When I was younger, I biked everywhere. You can see things and smell things that you can't from a car. Biking IS fun! I so long to be able to get back on a bike and peddle for hours. Right now, it's hard for me to just get down to the next block. But, I'm determined to get there.

As someone who pulls a trailer with their bike to do the grocery shopping, and slings a messenger bag for smaller errands, I really appreciate this forum.

The creator of this team called Slow Riders posted the mission statement for the team in a sticky topic but is buried under the many replies. I will post it again to serve as a reminder.

"Take the hammer out of cycling and put it back in the tool shed ! Slap on some saddlebags, fill them with a picnic, your latest read, camping stove to make some tea or coffee at that lovely SweetSpot you know of. Meet a friend in town, cut your grocery bill into little bits, toss your car keys ! Bicycling isn't merely a sport, it is a way to be in nature and tour your home town ! Whatever your fancy, lets slow down and enjoy the art of bicycling to BE places, not just going places. Bicycles can be a very positive lifestyle, especially in the environmental issues of modern times... and so lets dip our toes in and share our experiences here."
