Gosh it's been quiet here. Sorry I'm really behind in photos and put that weird scrapbook away until winter. I don't usually do scrapbooking in the summer unless I'm around when the folks go on vacation. This year it doesn't work out as we are both heading out in August.

How is everyone doing?

Right now when you try to open it up, it kinda falls apart, it doesn't really fold out nicely and it's - well - a mess. I have to sit down and really look it over. It reminds me of books my friend Sandra made, then later purchased from Michael's, where you have preset pages, ribbons used to hold it together and it folds out to lay down the photos for viewing. This is more like "stuck" so I have to see if it's a flaw or if I'm just doing things wrong.

It's up at my parent's place, so if I remember, I'll do that. It's like the ones you make, where you tie them up together, then when you open it up, it lays out flat across a table. I think that's what it is supposed to be like. Honestly, I'm not sure. haha!

My mum has the scrapbooking room and periodically she goes in to clean it up. I admit, Maddie and I are really bad for making messes. We work hard to keep it organized but some days, it doesn't happen.

I got a memory book from the gift basket given to me for 20 yrs service. It isn't that great, as you cannot fully open it up. I'm going to take it to my friend Sandra and see if there is a way we can modify it, to make it nicer for using.

Actually yes, I'd love that - simple, easy and cheap to make Easter crafts would be appreciated. We have a hour, but do opening and that always takes time, so I usually plan a craft that will take about 30 min. THanks!

Yup if we could get together with Maddie and Kayleigh, oh what fun we would have eh!

Maddie called last night, so I gave her the low-down. We'll do the eggs this w/e and next w/e we'll make her daddy's rabbit birthday cake. We found a rabbit pan in the city last w/e. She's really excited. :)

I will let you know. I think the key is not to mix the colours in the shaving cream, but rather swirl the colours with a toothpick. That way the egg picks up the colours and it stays as a swirl. It's too bad we can't go outside to do this, but hey, if it's nice, maybe Grandpa will set up the TV tray on the deck. That way we don't step on the muddy ground, but are still outside. 'Cause with me and her, you know it'll be messy! LOL!

Definitely only....well...I thought both sticker packs I got from Michaels were Hello Kitty stickers. It turned out one pack were tattoos. haha! She was thrilled and on top of it, they were good tattoos. They went on really nice and brilliant colours. I got them for $1.50, so the price was right too. I also picked up a pack of Minnie Mouse stickers that were on sale.

However, scrapbooking may end up going to the side on the wkend because my friends shared about shaving cream, food dye and dying eggs. It looks fun and my one friend said it works really well. I think we should try it.

I thought I had posted here, oops. It was a good visit with my uncle. Maddie was shy, so was very quiet around him. After 15 min or so we took off to my place, left her Dad to visit. We didn't do scrapbooking this weekend because I went to the city. I am piling up her photos though, for her to choose from and print. We also picked up more stickers when we were in the city, so she can use them for her book too.

haha! That's true especially after being away last weekend. My uncle is supposed to be coming up too. He's really cool, so I'm pretty sure Maddie will want to visit him too. She hasn't met him yet. Everything happened around the time she was born, and last year my parents went down to see him, so this is the first time up here in years. He's my Mum's younger brother.

It was an okay weekend, and very quiet as Miss Maddie was visiting her grandparents in Terrace. Saturday night I said to my folks that it was really odd to sit still and have so much quiet, no zoom zoom zoom, Come On Auntie, happening. LOL!!

I'm hoping this Saturday we work on her scrapbook, but it'll depend on what her plans are.

Cheri, I think the tribute to Don is a wonderful scrapbook project and down the road, Sharon will really appreciate the book. How beautiful for you to do that for her. I know for myself, everything hit about 6 months down the road because by then, folks are back doing their every day stuff, there isn't anything to be dealing with and you are alone with all the memories. She'd probably really need a good friend sharing a special book at that time, for sure.

Lacey would be a great subject for scrapbooking! I told Maddie when she returns from visiting her grandparents in Terrace, we'll finally pull off the photos for her, from the computer and start working on her book. I figure if you have a couple Lacey pics, that would be terrific and if not, I have the ones from last summer. :)

Hi Victoria, I hope you had a wonderful time with the kids on the preserve tour. I also hope you had a happy birthday.

Cheri, I think we took photos and they are in my Mum's camera. I have that and some other photos that I have to stop and print off. Poor Grandma in Terrace is waiting for them too.

Excellent Cheri!

I'm looking forward to seeing some pics before they all go in the scrapbook too.

I'll be forever with my scrapbooking since I'm redoing old books, tore them apart and boxed up the photos, plus the new ones, plus the ones on my computer - dang work gets in the way. haha!!

Join in with me Cheri. LOL!!

I have stuff piled right up and only do the scrapbooking when there is a day activity or my parents go on holidays. Everything is up at my folk's place as Mum and I share the supplies, plus I have no room for it in my apt. I always said I'd go up on a Sunday and work on books, but then never get to it. Maddie has pictures back-logged too, that we plan to do up in her scrapbooks that I either won or found at garage sales. It just never ends, does it. LOL!!

Oh gosh it's been awhile since I've been here!

I went to a scrapbook day that was a fund raiser for the local children's theatre group. Cheri already heard my complaints, but I'll share with the rest of you. I got lots done, that was the positive side. I paid $60 and sat alone, as the organizers did not set up the tables. They said "sit where you wish, move the tables as you like" and I sat down. Then watched everyone push their tables around me, so they were like the mainland and I was a lone island in the middle. I've never attended a scrapbook function where that happened before. Usually the organizers ensure that everyone attending is in a cluster of tables, so that no one sits alone and usually they set up the tables with little items, like Hershey Kisses and stickers. The door prizes were limited and even though only 1/4 of the people attended that could have been there, they did not have enough for everyone. I've never seen that happen before either, door prizes are a norm at functions, from little sticker packages to pages, to full out albums and the beauty of having your number drawn early is that you have more to choose from. The food was okay, it was chili for lunch - no salad, no alternatives. I can't eat beans, never thought to say anything as I never thought they'd serve that. Usually it's soup and sandwiches with salad. They didn't have anyone selling any scrapbook stuff. There was no music playing. The organizers gossiped with one another and did come over at one point to thank me for supporting the cause. Honestly though, I hope that all the money went to the children's theatre because they really didn't do anything to write home about. It was a very expensive day and normally I wouldn't go for that high of $$, but I figured it was for charity and the ladies organizing usually do such a good job with this stuff.

I was also disappointed that only one parent was there with her older son. When I went to the one for the basketball team, I swear the whole team showed up. I never have anyone haul in my stuff as I don't usually carry much, but I did that day because the kids were so willing to help - and so sad when I said I didn't need it. That one only cost $40, the food was amazing, door prizes for everyone and there were 2 people selling scrapbook items. Plus music, they had music going too. And we were all put into long clusters, I was put at the end, so that I could see people and the organizer said she did that as she knew I didn't know many people. That way I was included but still in my own space, which I felt was thoughtful.

Ah well, hopefully the money helped the theatre and I did get lots of pages done. I am missing the next potluck scrapbook gathering - just $5 towards rental of the hall - as I have a commitment that day. But I told her to keep me on the list for the next one.

How are you doing with the scrapbooking Cheri?

It sure has been quiet here. I imagine that folks are busy with Christmas planning stuff. I didn't go to the last scrapbook day because I ripped out everything in my neck, shoulders and upper back. I had a headache that was off the charts, had to stay home from work and I couldn't move my neck. I've been getting chiropractor and massage therapy, so its coming along. I hope to do some scrapbooking over the Christmas break.

The group events are fun Victoria and hopefully one day you'll be able to participate in one. We all get our own table to spread out and if someone really needs a sticker or paper that someone else has, they swap. Usually someone brings a tape deck and everyone is invited to put on a CD. Coffee and tea flow like crazy, food is simple for breaks, then at lunch (or supper, depending on the event) it's big. I've been in both potluck and catered events, both are great and there is always way too much food. I am a "lone wolf" at these events, so the participants usually pair me up with others who are also on their own - didn't bring their friends or family with them. Usually we have tables of items being sold from the local scrapbook store (if she participates, which isn't often) or in the past, from Creative Memories. Bingo is fun, you pay $1 per square and you put your name on the square. There are 2 rolls, the first roll is the row down - all names are included in that row - then the 2nd row is the square inside that row. Then the pot of money goes to that one person - who usually uses it to spend on items being sold. Or if there are no sales, then gets to keep the money. The big fundraiser I went to, they didn't do Bingo as there were too many women - 60 participants. That was also the most expensive - at $50 - but they provided everything over the 2 days. I didn't think I'd do something like this but I really do enjoy it. It's fun.

Thanks on what you said Victoria, I enjoy doing crafts and scrapbooking with my niece. Mum said on Saturday that she wanted to work on her book, but Mum convinced her to work on one page and wait for auntie. She painted the page. When I got there she wanted to work on the book, took apart my scrapbook tote and hauled out my stuff. It took a bit but finally my mum and I convinced her that we have to do planning - as there are no photos to use. We played the "Old Lady" game instead, plus did some card making for her other grandparents.

What will be provided for the $50 and how long will the event take place? Do they have to pay for rental of space? I've paid between $30-$50 depending on where the event is being held and if it's a one or two day event. (it's higher for 2 days) When events are held there is always food/meals and beverages provided, along with door prizes (and everyone attending wins an item by the end of the event) and we pay extra for Bingo. Raffles are often done and that is part of the cost of the event. Is it 2 full days or 1/2 day on the first day, with a full day on the next?

Saturday went well with our scrapbooking day - we paid only $5 to cover the cost of renting the hall. We brought food for potluck. Friday night was quiet, as only 8 of us attended, so it was cozy and relaxing. Saturday was noisy as there were 2 dozen women and 1 man there. I got quite a few pages done. It was good.

I can see why you would want to go. $50.00 is steep & she should have made that a suggested donation allowing people who can't afford that to pay less. Miost crops cost about 20.00 though. Perhaps you could Ask about accepting a donation of $20.00 instead?

Here is what I received (note the price):

Some of y'all suggested that we host a "charity" crop to help. (this was at Scrap Pink when I fell apart & my friends had to take over for me :) I love ya'll!
I would really appreciate the help since I've stretched myself so thin with attorneys, dr bills, and attempting to refinance the house.

Many of ya'll also suggested a yard sale combo & we are going to go with it. Invite your friends, the more the merrier! I know that alot of you have been in my position and I am so appreciative of each of you!
Each time I get together with all of you that in it self relieves a huge amount of stress so Thankyou in advance!

I will be bringing things from the store to sell, I'm making lots of new Kits, we will be doing a silent auction for anyone that would like to bring something to put into that (example: One Scrappies friend makes purses and offered to donate one to the auction!) & we will have the Scrapbook yardsale that hopefully most of you will participate in.

Event Date is Nov 1 & 2 (Fri & Sat)
in Palatka
(I'm still working on a location, it won't be far from Scrappies though)

you can pay me at the shop or make a payment by paypal to caseycahan@yahoo.com (if you use the gift option it doesn't charge either of us a fee)
I don't check emails there so if you attempt to contact me make sure you use my personal email: scrapbookqueenie@yahoo.com

You can sell anything scrapbook related, craft, or photography related.
Everything you sell in the yardsale will become store credit & can be used on anything in the store.(it can't be redeemed for class fees or crop fees. no special order items or gift certificates) It will not be available to be applied to this crop. You will be able to use it in the store as soon as the Monday after the crop!

Sorry to hear you won't be attending the scrapbook event in your area. I was talking with my (5yr old) niece last night and she said "I need to scrapbook auntie." We talked about what she has for pictures, and how she has books ready to go. It's fall going into winter, so now her focus is turning towards indoor stuff. So I think we'll soon get going on her creating some cool books too. :)

Cheri, did Al decide to retire or stay with the military? I think based on your blogs that he decided to retire, but thought I'd double-check.

Victoria, I cannot recall what Cheri stated with the glasses, when I was there visiting, so hopefully she'll return here soon to share it with you.

I'm going on a scrapbook day that turned into two days - this Friday and Saturday. Creative Memories have gone bankrupt and our rep decided we still need to gather for a scrapbook day. We are all tossing $5 into the pot - to pay for the hall - and doing potluck. She had 26 people confirm, which is huge! (for this area) The last time I went to one so large, it was a fundraiser here in town and held in the local school gym. Usually in this hall - in the town next door to mine - we have around 10-15 people. So we'll gather on Friday evening and figure out the set-up, then probably do a little scrapbooking and Saturday will be the big day. It'll be lots of fun.

I also hope that the other town - Fraser Lake - has a scrapbook 2 day event soon. They started it couple years back, in the fall and it's great. You pay a bit more money but they provide the food and have door prizes. Great fun.

So who has craft adventures or any adventure to share? Cheri already knows I have mostly been attending the LA County fair due to the season pass. They have a section with crafts in there. I enjoy the table settings section. The judges do a score sheet for each table setting & they take points off for error so winning involves more than looking good.

So sorry about that - I'm sorta going through a rough time and have almost totally left spark people, but for reason I seem to keep coming back. Hopefully, I will get my act together and visit more often.

Disney is actually for me as I'm working on my trip from last year. :)

Mum is giving me money for scrapbook stuff, "whatever you find is fine with me" and money to go to that book store on Whyte Ave, the 2nd hand one for my dad. Not much longer now!!

Sounds good. Paper and stickers wise we have lots of stuff. I would like to pick up some Disney stuff for the Disney book. It's those border makers, I'm still mourning that they are gone. I have 5 or 6 so it's not like I'm short on them, just that they make fun pages and Maddie loves using them. She also likes punchers, so we'll keep an eye out for that too.

Our area is different because the majority of people do not do digital scrapbooks. Rarely will you ever see any scrapbook item at a garage sale, people hold their stuff very tight.

Tools are expensive regardless where you buy them, unless you buy cheap built ones from dollar stores - if you can find similar there. Punchers are cheap outside of places like Michaels and Creative Memories, however, they don't last - at lesat not for me. I used to buy Cricket tools and they are comparable to Creative Memories, only difference is the money spent goes to a corporation. With CM my rep gets a percentage of money from the sales, so I'm supporting local which I liked. I found the paper and stickers comparable to scrapbooking stores. Their paper is really high quality and patterns that I couldn't find elsewhere. I also liked buying the sets - where I'd get stickers, borders, paper all in themes. I do buy lots from dollar stores but there isn't much variety. I loved the uniqueness of CM's materials. As I mentioned, we'll be buying lots from Michaels now.

Thanks on sharing the sites, that would be great .:)

That's great that you found printable free scrapbook things online Cheri. Do you have the link handy to share?

Does anyone deal with Creative Memories? The company called a Chapter 11. I have to get my order in this week, for a few things and hope that it's still in stock. Our represenative isn't sure what is going to happen, sounds like they are planning to go completely digital scrapbooking. Apparently those of us that still do hands-on scrapbooking are not buying up enough stock to keep companies like this viable. They say it's the trend to digital that has knocked out the socks from companies that do physical crafting combined with the economy. I couldn't quite understand though. Apparently another company that has stores is also going bankrupt for the same reasons. I feel for my rep because she's been selling Creative Memories for years. She's not sure what she'll do if they close up shop and go strictly digital.

I know this isn't the full reason but there are some decisions made by Creative Memories that make no sense (over the years). For example, they'll showcase a new tool and when you go to order it, there are none left and they will not make any more. Or they'll sell a tool piece for a limited amount of time - when it's gone, it's gone. Like my Border Maker, there was a border that I really wanted and they don't make it now. They seem to make only a set amount of items, sell and then that's that. They stopped carrying the children's scrapbook kits, which my rep said were super popular. She even ran kid's day camps where by the end of the day the children (even as young as my niece) walked out with a fully completed scrapbook. I bought the last one she had for my niece.

It's frustrating as I love the retreats that the rep holds through the year and I really do love the products. I guess it'll be back to Michaels. Such as shame. It was nice to know that by purchasing from CM, I was supporting a local resident.

Yes doing scrapbooking while in the midst of renos would be quite challenging, Cheri. All my scrapbook stuff is with my mum, as we share. Plus I don't have room here to do my books, so hopefully they go on a trip while I'm still here, so I can take over their home and scrapbook. lol

I didn't take any photos at NAD. Even if I had taken the camera, I was so busy doing faces that I wouldn't have had time to take photos. I was the photographer one NAD and took a pile of photos, which I sent to the reserve for their scrapbook. I did face painting that day too, but it was a weekend NAD and those are well known for low attendance, so I had time to take photos while doing the odd face here and there.
