Way to go on the exercise Fit - you sure are great at keeping up the good work.

Date loaf Kali, Im with you girl. I have a passion for dates which these days I indulge on celebration days same as dried apricots....well all sorts of dried fruit and nuts actually....with muesli and oh yes yoghurt. LOL. My favourite breakfast. I used to eat it all the time before Spark, but alas for me it does set up a craving if eaten daily. I seem to be OK as long as I only have it when I am eating breakfast out. Something about having it in the house that just gets me going.

Sorry to hear about the hot tub. I guess it is just a case of getting the balance right. Hope you will be able to enjoy it this weekend.

Fit - way to continue your exercise journey!

Wispy - love the visualization of sitting among the flowering vines!

We made it into the hot tub last night only to find it cloudy - an unwelcome surprise after taking an afternoon to drain and clean it - heading to the spa store to get new filters and a chemical soak for our existing ones - only thing we can figure @ this point...
As we are all different, there is not exact science to water clarity - sort of like life I guess

Accumulated an inch of much needed emoticon last night and plan to bake some date and gluten free bread today. (love the smells)

Good morning ladies,

Hi there Kathi. Although very cold, your description sounds just lovely. So sending you thoughts for a beautiful Spring and Summer to follow.

Hey Eva, pleased that Bug is better and enjoying PE. How I hated PE...... I am fine and dandy thanks for asking. It is early morning here and I am out on the verandah amidst the blossoms. The sun has risen and is just peeking over the garage roof (I cant see the garage roof because it is covered with flowering vines, but I know it is there somewhere. In fact I will need to get of them cut back soon or the roof might fall in. :)

Laura happy to have you back. That has been a difficult time. One of my boys had back surgery last year and they tell him he will need a fusion most likely later in life. It has been a long time since he was really fit, but the surgery has helped a lot and certainly got rid of most of the pain. He could hardly move before. I thought spine fusion was comparatively rare, but both of you having had it makes me think perhaps it is more common than I thought.

Kali. I am very pleased that the 6 month check up was all clear. You rock girl! Enjoy the weekend – maybe even get out into that hot tub? Or maybe not if you have those really cold temps where you are.

Kim - glad you're staying warm and don't work too hard

Kathi - We've missed the emoticon (desperately need it) and have had the strangest cycle of deep-freeze and moderate temps, so I am not tired of the season and love that you are finding the beauty in it!

Laura - hope all is well with your significant other and you are safe on the roads.

Good morning everyone ! Cant believe how much I missed the inspiration of my Sparkspeople ! .Ive spent the last couple of days in a hospital helping my significant other :) out while he had his spine fused. Now we match since I have had it done. Not a fun time. Must be love. We live an hour from the hospital so under these extreme weather conditions it has not been fun traveling between there and home. Luckily he is home and healing. I am always amazed at how quickly you start to feel like crap when you don't eat right and just sit around. I was almost in an actual funk yesterday from it.

Kathi - I know what you mean by the sunshine ! Even with the snow , and my area has had over 100 inches this season, the sun brings you up and makes it beautiful.

Fitadmin - Great job on the fitness minutes ! You definitely don't want to do a work out that doesn't inspire you . Sounds like the kick boxing would have been a negative experience.

Wispy, - Glad everything worked out for you in the end. Some times life does seem to take the round about way for settling things I know. I often use positive affirmations to try to get through difficult times. Unfortunately my multi tasking personality Never thinks its fast enough.

-Kimberlee - hopefully you can have a more enjoyable winter now that the tax season has officially begun and you have all your paper work done. I know Im not looking forward to doing mine. Ugh !

Good morning!

Thank you all for Bug's well wishes. She returned to school yesterday. I was entertained with the details of the P.E. obstacle coarse. Apparently it was fantastic.

Fitadmin -- Here's to making your 500 minutes today! I can't do a dvd where the trainer is cocky or yells. So I understand you. I just turn it off and go to something else.

Kim- did Loki enjoy his alone time? :)

My missing post was such a nice one yesterday. I have just about had enough of winter (no, wait - I HAVE had enough of winter!) and every time I get to that place of needing to move on to Spring, beauty appears around me to remind me that every season has its moments! It's been so cold here for weeks and we got another 4 inches of snow yesterday. My driveway is getting narrower because there's no place left to put all the snow. The next two weeks are forecast to be below normal (but it's been below normal here for at least a month so we're probably used to it!)

I continue to be amazed at the bright sunshine on the coldest of days, the many different colors in the cloudy skies and the whiteness of new snow, It occurs to me that these are things that seldom can be photographed in the same way that we see them and so they have to be treasured as they happen.

OK, on with winter . . . .

Enjoy your Friday!

Hi there everyone,

Fitadmin, so happy to have you join in our chat thread. Well done, your exercise is going very well and also your eating plan.

Hey Kim, well done you, bet that is a weight off your mind. Work accomplished after a very busy week. Bet Loki is enjoying the freedom of chasing about on his own as well. ;o)

Kathi sorry you lost your post – thats' one thing that sure tests my patience – not my strong point.

Eva, hope your little one is well again soon and able to get back to school.

Thanks Celia, I tend to forget threads if I dont get a heads up. Everything has worked out so well, thank you for the loving thoughts. I am so sorry to hear about Jynx. I am hoping you will find something that really helps. It is always difficult when our furries and fluffies are sick.

I have had another couple of great days. Both yesterday and today I did 40 Minutes on the elliptical and yesterday I even did a 15 minute walk routine and 5 minutes of a kickbox routine. I did not care for the kickbox routine so I ended up doing so little of it because of that. The instructor was just too cocky for me. I got 60 minutes in yesterday and am SO close to 500 fitness minutes for January. As of tomorrow (the last day of the month) I will make it!

I am been working like crazy this week. It is the last week of January and all the payroll returns and 1099 forms have to be complete by Friday. I think I finished up the last ones last night. I worked until nearly 10 to do it but it is making for a much nicer today! emoticon

It has gotten quiet cold here - well at least for us. It was 81 and sunny on Tuesday and today is 55 and rainy. Thankfully, I can be inside all day today if I want. I am at my ex's house and he has a fenced in yard. So Loki and be let out without me having to go with him. What a nice treat!

Celia - so sorry about Jynx. Hopefully you can find a protein that will work for him. So sad when the fur babies are sick.

Kali - You are a busy woman for sure! Enjoy the excitement and the relaxing soak at the end!

Mrs_Eva_K, hope your sick kiddo is better soon!

Kali, thanks for the kind words about Jynx. Enjoy your lunch, your soak, and the bball game!

Good day so far. I walked a path around the house during a telcon. That's about 4000 steps more than I'd have from sitting on my rear.

I'll be out of pocket the next week, so check-ins may be hit or miss.

Wispy - emoticon we missed you! So glad all is well.
Love your, "Acceptance of what is and non-resistance." I can't find the quote, but I remember Mother Teresa talking about her projects occurring in God's time...
FITADMIN83 emoticon on meeting your goals!

Kim - Thai food and game night sounds perfect

Kathi - here's to finding the beauty in the cold!
Eva - here's to emoticon before the world wakes...

Celia - sorry about Jynx - hope he improves while you are away...

Took yesterday afternoon off to clean the hot-tub and so glad I did - learned I was not properly cleaning the filters, so it was like a giant bubble bath... Temps up so we'll emoticon tonight.
It's emoticon (as opposed to pennies) from heaven day @ work - everything seems to be falling in place (I should have guessed it would - right Wispy?) and once again, I'm practicing learning to trust...
Lunch with my teammate emoticon game tonight and as always...

good morning!

I ended up with a sick kid home yesterday. No fever just a lot of head congestion and very little sleep. She'll go back to school today but I suppose now I know why I woke up so early.

I hope the day finds you all well!

Kathi, sending warm vibes your way.

Cindi, thanks much. We weren't sure if we needed new box springs, but since we bought this combo 13 years ago, I guess it's time.

Kim, I love your upbeat messages!

Kali, glad you are fighting the illness. Is your immune system still compromised by your battle with cancer?

Wispy, I wondered where you went. Sending calming vibes and praying that everything works out with the difficulties you are facing right now.

Fitadmin, thanks for the reminder that I have that elliptical right downstairs.

Mrs_Eva_K, what a great way to spend an early morning!

All, thanks for the comments about Jynx. Unfortunately, the internal medicine vet said there had been no improvement in his gut despite a month on steroids. I actually thought a month was a bit premature to see improvement, since he is 11 years old and has apparently had this problem his entire life. The vet calls it an autoimmune disease of unknown origin, meaning it could be diet, bacteria, or something in his environment. I'm betting on diet, because when we started him on a grain-free diet a year ago with a protein he was unaccustomed to (duck), he showed improvement for awhile, but it didn't last. We could search for a different protein (vet recommended rabbit), but at this point we're at a loss. We will keep him on prednisone while we are away at a conference and then order a different formulation from a compounding pharmacy to see if that helps.

Good morning!

Kim, That is an ego boost when kids are excited to "see" you.

My nieces are always excited for foul weather days from school. They get to park it in my house. Apparently it's "fun" here. no idea why but it makes me feel good to know I'm first choice for them :)

I woke up this morning an hour early for no apparent reason. So I took the time for extra meditation since going back to sleep was out of the question. I must say early mornings, before the world wakes up is my favorite time of day.

Have a safe and warm day!

Great Job Fit!!!

Whispy - what a wonderful story. It is so hard to have faith while we are in the midst of the trouble. But it does seem to always work out in the end. A friend tells me sometimes that "everything always works out in the end. If it not okay yet, then it is not the end." That offers me some comfort ..... when I remember. Thanks for your story!

Waiting for a girlfriend to arrive with Thai food and game night!!!

I had a great day today. I got a 30 minute elliptical workout done today and did SO well with my food. My food intake has been so balanced and it has helped me so much. The exercise is coming and I love that I can just jump on an elliptical whenever I want and have a quick workout or longer if I wish. It makes me feel so accomplished when I see that I am hitting calorie goals and everything else. Just wanted to share.

Hi there guys,

Good golly, where have I been. Once again no posts for this thread....Kali I realise now what you said... DUH!!

Kim I am loving your post. That is what I find about gratitude as well. Even when the things, in fact more so, when the things I am being grateful for do not seem like those that one would normally be grateful for. They transform into something quite wonderful.
I have just been through a difficult few weeks and I kept on giving thanks. I had almost reached the point of despair a couple of days ago. But all my options were zero. I had three courses of action and they were all equally unpleasant. I had been letting go and letting God all the way through, kind of expecting that the right answer would come, but things got worse and worse from my point of view.
But before this last few weeks with regard to this specific situation (I had been running away from it for several years in fact) because I could not see how to handle it. Christmas really brought it to a head and it was the time to bite the bullet and do what had to be done.
Nothing worked smoothly which often happens in families when serious family decisions need to be made. Anyway a few days ago I reched the place where the three courses of action were clear – I had no peace about any of them and I really had to hand the whole thing over.
I wrote down the quotes that came to mind.

“Make a decision – any decision is better than no decision.”
“When you are in doubt about a decision, do nothing and wait”

Like most quotes there is always an opposite point of view. For some reason these were the two that instantly came to mind and I just had to laugh. It was like God himself said.... No girlie there is no hope there this time!!

This was the rock bottom day and it was also the day that everything fell into place and has ended up in a way that is beyond anything I could have planned. Certainly it was things I had set in motion during the process – but thought I had hit a closed door in both these options.
My Higher Power did have everything in hand, just not on my time frame – but at the 11th in fact almost 12th hour.

I ended up last night with tears of gratitude and thankfulness and peace, because the whole situation was resolved over and above anything I could have planned. There was no doubt within me that these answers were the right ones.

Well I sure hadn't planned on writing that, but it is an absolute tribute to “In everything give thanks...”
Acceptance of what is and non-resistance.

Love to you all

Kathi - you continue to inspire me with your emoticon

Cindi - we too are on the weather rollercoaster - today is the last deep freeze for a while and with any luck we'll get some desperately needed emoticon later this week!
Eva - emoticon for volunteering - our kids are the future.

Kim - so happy for your good place and what a wonderful surprise to 'see' your family. I've been meaning to Skype with mine and just might do it...

Deep-freeze today, but fabulous sliver of a emoticon this morning and emoticon is rising. Fitful sleep last night, but was able to 'practice' some root and heart chakra meditations. Lunch with my teammate, couple critical to dos and then stir-fry with the DH tonight.
Still trying to fit in emoticon and found the 7 Minute Fitness App www.macrumors.com/2014/01/09/apple-s
to

(apparently there are quite a few), so couch potato days may be winding down...

Good morning friends!

I have been in such a good place lately. Each day, I wake up with a feeling of gratitude and happiness. It's not that I don't have anything negative that I could dwell on. I just seem to be able to put it into perspective. I also think that just the act of gratitude makes things actually run more smoothly than they would otherwise.

My brother texted me the other day to say that his 2 year old son was begging to skype with me. Finally Sunday night our schedules aligned and we were able to do it. To my surprise, my parents were also there so I got to chat with everyone. Koan (nephew) was so excited that he could barely contain himself. It was like seeing Santa Claus. What an ego boost for me. I do love that kid. We have always had a strong soul connection.

Off to start my work day. Love and blessings to you all!!!

Good morning!

I hope today finds everyone warm and well!

This is Tuesday, so if school is open I go eat lunch with my DD and volunteer pulling worksheets for her teacher. Sounds menial but it helps her spend more time making lesson plans. That means she spends more time focused on students and not perforated lines in a work book.

Celia good luck with the cat! I've been dealing with a sick one myself, spider bite. It's hard particularly if you have to leave them for any period of time.

Hello Everyone!

Thanks so much for the kind words and the Get Well wishes.

Celia - They say when you buy a new mattress that you also need to get a new box spring set so that they fit right together. Some places won't give you a warranty on the mattress if you use old springs.

The weather here sure is crazy. One day we have a little warm up and sun and then the next several days it is freezing!

Good Night All..... emoticon

It's 5 below with not much wind (yet) and I just came in from a "refreshing" walk. It's such a pretty morning, the sun is shining so brightly after a starry night and I had to get outside!! I'm really glad I did that; when I don't take the weather forecast too seriously, I find that it's not as bad as they made it out to be.

A couple of days of this and then on to warmer temps!! (This time for good? Please?????)

Cindi - sounds like a good and bad day - sending healthy thoughts and so glad you found your DW and new bed setup.
Kathi - a emoticon workout and win-win for you and your neighbor!
FeedMe - emoticon on an excellent start to your workout week!

Celia - love that you shared your workout with your DH! - We moved the new emoticon into the furnace room next to the elliptical and I'm looking forward to sharing the same experience with my sweetie. Hope all works out with your cat...

Eva - so glad you got out - We did too - yesterday morning was fabulous and 2 hours raking pine needles was just what the yard and I needed. Wind kicked up (45 mph) and temps plummeted again - will be glad to have this cycle behind us!

The rest and chicken soup on Saturday were just what the doctor ordered (that and Zicam).
Yardwork, moving exercise equipment, errands, a winning emoticon game followed by the Grammys (until I fell asleep) rounded out Sunday.
Feeling energized today and hoping to win the emoticon battle. Corned beef and cabbage in the crockpot will help!

Mrs_Eva_K, thanks for the validation. My parents brought us up to ask permission to play on someone's lawn, but these "neighbors" must believe if it isn't fenced, it's fair game. We've thought about taking down our back fence, but with the very odd-shaped lot, the boys would end up running all over the septic bed, and replacing the innards of that is expensive, so the fence stays.

In the office for one day this week, then telework three, then leave for a week-long conference. With the cat on steroids, we will have to kennel him at our regular vet clinic. He has another visit with the specialist tomorrow, and she will decide whether to keep him on the meds or wean him off. Either way, he will need to be pilled for at least a few days, if not all week, and regardless, we want him where he is observed. It's horribly stressful for him, because the cattery is not well separated from where other animals are, but we can't just leave him in the care of a pet sitter this time.

Good Morning!

Kali and Just_breath, how are you feeling today? Sending healing energy your way.

Celia I'm not an old lady. I have a 5 year old and I don't like my lawn being invaded without permission. I think it's rude.

We warmed up over the weekend and got in some outside time. My DH and I paced our daughter while she rode her bike in the park. Now back to the cold temps for the next few days.

I hope you have a fantastic day!

Kim, the story of the coin is amazing! Thanks for explaining Padre Pio.

Oh, Kali, sick on your unstructured weekend. Hope you feel better soon.

Cindi, sorry you are still ailing, too. At least you got bright news with the dishwasher, and you've reminded me we need to replace our mattress. Do we also need to replace the box springs?

Kathi, you are one kind neighbor to brave knee-deep snow and a steep drive to check on a house.

Feedmechicken, good for you starting the week on a fit note!

DH turned into an awesome workout buddy today. We have nice equipment in our basement, even if some of it is pretty old and the basement itself is dreary. Working out with DH reminded me of when we first started dating, and physical activity, whether gym time or volksmarches, was very important to us. Years and obligations seem to have a way of changing one's focus, so it was really fun to have that fresh feeling of accomplishment with him. We did 30+ minutes of cardio, then ST, and finished with a short yoga practice.

Kim, I live in a condo on the north end of the snowbird route! A lot of my neighbors are gone for the winter and these days, I'm thinking that the snowbird life might be the life for me! Most of our snowbirds are Wisconsin natives who want to escape the winter but we do have a couple that lives here in the warmer months to escape the Florida summers; I find that amusing! (I love your Padre Pio story; very cool!)

Yesterday, I got my exercise in a most novel way. One of my neighbors who is gone for a few weeks was worrying about his house in this extreme cold so I told him I'd check on it. His relatively long and uphill driveway hasn't been plowed since the beginning of the month (I think we've gotten about 15 inches of snow since he was here last) and it's been quite windy here so I waded through knee-deep snow drifts to get to his door. I had to go back later in the day and that time, I ran up the driveway to get there faster. What a workout!!

Celia - we have a 'screamer' across the street (I have to admit she is darling), so I can relate to enjoying one benefit of the cold - they are staying in where it is warm

Celia - so sorry about the kids. I know exactly what you mean. I currently live in a condominium community in Florida. About half of the units are owned by retirees who come down for the winter (lovingly referred to as Snowbirds.) The remainder are a mix of permanent retirees and a fair number of middle age singles. We have very few children except for grandkids who visit. I like it this way
emoticon

My kitchen window looks out onto a common 2nd floor walkway. The window is about 5 feet from my front door. I noticed something on the sill about a week ago but I had my hands full and meant to come back out and check it out. I kept forgetting. On Monday, my kitchen contractor was out measuring and he asked if I knew it was there and handed it to me. I was bowled over when I saw who the saint was. I honestly have no idea how it got there. No person would have known the meaning it would have to me. I did order a biography of Padre Pio and a book with excerpts of his writings and a book of daily intentions based on his writings. He was known for teaching that love conquers all as well as for taking on the suffering of others

Kim, congrats for having the courage to step out of a toxic work situation and for successfully building your own business. Tell us more about Padre Pio. How did a coin appear on your window sill?

Fitadmin, I like your status reminder from yesterday that we can split up cardio into smaller chunks. I confess I still get into the "all or nothing" frame of mind.

Mrs_Eva_K, I haven't traveled on 70 in Tennessee, just I-40 and I-24 (when I used to drive from St. Louis to Nashville to visit my brother).

Kali, here's to unplanned weekends! It's fun to go with the flow instead of stressing over an impossible to-do list.

Here, it's still very cold (+7F this morning), but I am absolutely delighted the schools in my county are open today so I can telework without the hellions from next door screaming outside my window. So wish they would play in their own yard, but their parents just don't care to teach them any better, and I don't need the reputation of being the nasty old lady who yells at them to be quiet.

Celia - emoticon for the oatmeal recipes - will give them a try!

Kim - how wonderful Padre Pio 'dropped' into your life. I will be interested to hear what you learn.

FITADMIN83 - I'm starting to use intentions too. Wild Divine Monday Meditations suggested, "Before you get out of bed in the morning, take five minutes to set your intention for the day. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and envision the day you want to have." Amazing how much calmer I was this morning and plan to use tomorrow to get started on the treadmill!

Laura - glad you checked in

Eva - we're in for emoticon in the 50s! emoticon
Not so excited about the yo-yo and the lack of emoticon - really hard on the plants and animals, but will take what we can get...

An unplanned weekend again - emoticon Hope to get a good start on the emoticon plus get out and rake up pine needles from tree trimming - definitely will get in a few emoticon for better emoticon

Good Morning!

Celia I-40 is the main connection but 70 is the scenic route :) My DH is in transportation. the human atlas seems to know all the scenic routes.

It's 6+ degrees here this morning, which is a heat wave compared to many parts of the country. You all stay safe and warm and hope that crazy groundhog doesn't see it's shadow in a couple weeks.

Hi Everyone!

Since I seem to have the food tracking thing down cold I am working more on the fitness aspect of my journey. I have been slowly getting into the fitness aspect and I am taking my time but it is not easy. I wonder if I can meditate on it and put the intention out there for some help:)

Blessing all!

I have made it through (well almost, but I am an optimist too) another week of January. I have one more week to get my payroll returns and 1099's out for my clients. Then I slip back into "busy but no deadline" mode. I feel so blessed to have the work and the ablity to find a way to get it all done. I suspect that I am helped in many unseen ways.

I found a holy relic coin for Padre Pio on my window sill this week. It is the 3rd time he has dropped unexpectedly into my life. Which is quite a "thing" since he is a fairly obscure Italian monk from the first half of the century. I am now taking it seriously and will begin to do some research into him. I will find a book about his teachings on Amazon. I feel he has something to teach me.

Kathi, I Googled Crossville to find out where you are. Looks like a lovely part of the state for your dad. I admire that you and Laura live in Wisconsin/Michigan. Way too cold and snowy for me. My BIL uprooted his southern belle wife and moved them to Wausau a couple of years ago. I suspect they will move back to Tennessee when they retire.

Mrs_Eva-K, I also looked up Jackson/Medina. Seems like I-40 is the main connection!

Kali, Happy Birthday to your DH! Hope you enjoyed that lunch out, and I hope it warms up for you soon.

Laura, the recipes I use for refrigerator oatmeal are at

I've tried the blueberry-maple and the mango-almond and really like them. I also tried the apple-cinnamon and have no idea why, but it curdled. That recipe is a non-keeper.

In the office for the only day this week. Lots of tasks to get done, so back to it!

Good Morning!

Celia, I'm just outside of Jackson Tn, about 2 hours west of Nashville, in a small town named Medina.

Kali I agree about that snow. We just aren't equipped for it. Not that any one is in these massive amounts!

Cindi how was your doctor's appointment?

It appears to be a quiet day here. A rare event. I might have time for extra meditation and Yoga.

Laura, you're a neighbor! I live in NE Wisconsin (Green Bay/Door County.) It's sure been a tough winter this year but, optimist that I always am, I was thinking yesterday that we might be near the halfway point. (I know, I know . . . . but it's my optimism that gets me through!) emoticon

I think today is grocery store day, I've put it off long enough, the cupboards are bare and the shopping list is long!

I tried walking yesterday for about 15 minutes. It had been snowing on and off throughout the day and it was just too slippery. I didn't find it pleasurable; I had to concentrate too hard on what was beneath my feet!

I keep reminding myself (and anyone who still listens to me) that this will all be over soon (just not soon enough for most of us!!) I always keep a picture in my mind from a couple of years ago of me sitting on my deck in late April or early May thinking, "WE MADE IT!" That day is coming and it's going to be so sweet.

Enjoy your day!!

I redeemed myself with my scale today. Took my measurement and I lost three inches. HaHa scale, you don't mean the end of the world !
-Cindi, I hope your doctors appointment went well and you are feeling better.

-Celia, I would love your oatmeal recipe. I made mine this morning and accidently put chili powder in instead of cinnamon. It was amazingly good. emoticon . I love walking in the snow. Unfortunately after my back surgery it isn't letting me play out there much.

-Kathi, I love the sun shine ( need the sunshine ) but when it hit today it was below zero. I live in Northern Michigan and this cold and snow are not letting up.

Kali, I take Feldenkrais classes and the instructor is a licensed massage therapist also. She does an amazing chakra balancing massage but I have never heard of a zero balance one. What exactly is it ?

Celia - here's to your cardio - perhaps building a emoticon might be in order? I'd trade telework for snow days anytime... Keep warm!

Cindi - hope you find a great diswasher.
Kathi - so glad you are getting in your winter emoticon - you are much braver than me!

Eva - I can relate to those winds although a little colder in NE than TN... @ least we don't have the snow the northeast is getting!

emoticon trimming finished yesterday (poor guys - it was freezing) and the yard looks amazingly different. It will be interesting to see once the deciduous trees leaf out, but right now it is incredibly open... maybe we'll even have some grass next year.
emoticon
Just returned from my zero balance massage and talked about the emotion work - seems we hold deep rooted anger around our hip joint. Something new for me to research as DH has hip problems and the one that's in the best 'shape' hurts the most.
emoticon
He turned 62 today (or as he says with his handicap net 48) and we'll probably go out for a cup of soup and share a sandwich (that way we both get to celebrate)

Sounds like it's one thing after another, Cindi. Sending peaceful and healing vibes.

Kathi, I got my walk in yesterday, too. I thought I was being smart and beating the snow, but as I walked out the door, the first tiny flakes appeared. Oh well, I figured it would be like that for at least 30 minutes, so no prob. Nooooooo. It started snowing moderately very quickly, leaving me out there getting a good white coating while I finished my 30-minute walk...but I did finish it.

Mrs_eva_k, are you in the Nashville area? My brother and his family live there, as well as one married daughter and her hubbie. The other older daughter is married and moved from Chattanooga to northern Georgia. My brother has one more (18yo) at home. My DH is also in Nashville/Franklin today, since he had to fly in late last night. The airline is leaving him there all day today, and he will fly his next flights tomorrow (and come home!)

I'm bundled up at home thinking I really need to get outside and shovel the remaining snow to get the warming sun on the bare asphalt, but the temps are single-digit this morning with wind chills well below zero. Gotta get it done, though.

Good morning!

Cindi I hope you are feeling better today.

Like everyone else Laura I think the scale is a tool, but sometimes it's the most overwhelming. I have so many other numbers that mean more to me these days that the scale reading often gets lost in the shuffle.

I did get most of the yard work finished Monday. Not that you can tell it after yesterday's 40 mph winds. I've decided mother nature is trying to please everyone at once -- or trying to punish us for complaining about the weather too much LOL. Either way it's a cold one for West TN. I just hope the people north and west of here stay warm while this crazy cold rages on.

What a January we're all having! Today has snow and wind in the forecast then it's back below zero. Argh.

I'm always amazed at how sunny the days are here when it's the coldest; to my eyes, the days are beautiful. (To my skin, now that's another thing!) I did walk for about 20 minutes at lunchtime yesterday; it's really good for me to do that!! It was a last-minute decision that I made once the first group of lunch-goers came back and said that it really wasn't all that bad out. It wasn't that great either (single digits) but I did it anyway and am happy now that I went.

Have a great day, another day of January checked off the calendar!!

We had snow here today, too. Pretty but could do without it. Dishwasher died after years of use. Going to check out some tomorrow after the doctor appt.

Take Care! emoticon

Hi, Mrs_eva_k! Hope you got all your tasks done yesterday.

Kathi, I know what you mean about the flexibility. I used to tell myself I was flexible (I wasn't), so when it hit the critical stage, regaining any flexibility was very difficult. I've been practicing yoga for about five years and am better, but not tremendously so.

Cindi, so good to hear from you again, but I'm sorry life has been less than fun lately. Please get well soon.

Laura, hope you had a great workout today. I feel the way you do about the scale. The number alone shouldn't mean so much to me, but it does.

Kim, your morning shake sounds yummy! I've been kicking off the day with refrigerator oatmeal lately. This morning was mango-almond.

Kali, glad you have some great businesses to do your tree removal and gutter cleaning. I haven't found the ones I need here. And you can send your warmer weather my way, however fleeting.

Snowing today, booooo! Naturally, DH left on a trip yesterday, and I can never get the snow blower running, so whatever sticks, I get to shovel. I made one pass on the driveway and sidewalk with a couple of inches, and I'm hoping there won't be much more. At least it's cardio. I also teleworked today even though federal offices in the DC area were closed, because I'm in that enhanced telework pilot, and "snow days" are a perk we gave up for the option to telework half-time. Oh well, at least it was quiet, and telcons were canceled, so I got some administrative tasks done.

Celia - the 'warm' weather was fleeting... -2 feels like -12 this morning. Your pampering and wonderful day sounds divine!

Wispy - Early Birds is the name of a women's group that meets @ 7:00 am 2x/month, so those of us working gals can join in the discussion. Visions of dust dancing in the sunlight here...
emoticon
Eva - I can relate to yard clean-up... The universe smiled upon us as the gutter folks turned out to be starting a tree business - took out 5 trees and are back today to prune the dead out of the rest!
Kathi - WTG on restarting your emoticon and keeping your emoticon - I'll be right behind you!
Cindi - so glad you are back emoticon when you're not here!
Laura - here's to your emoticon & emoticon - those emoticon numbers are muscle!

Kim - I can relate to renewing a healthy lifestyle - the cold has dampened my walking @ noon, but certainly not my food consumption... Shake sounds yummy!
emoticon

3 Day weekend was wonderful and like Kathi's a roller-coaster weather-wise - high winds both Saturday and Monday. Gutters cleaned Sunday and tree removal pre-high winds Monday - great crew left the street and sidewalks immaculate. Will be interested to see how open the yard will be with the dead cut out of the remaining trees... Signed up for their yearly service to test and feed/treat trees - looking forward to healthier groves...
'Lost' a fir tree to fungus that sheltered the end of the hot-tub patio, but the arborist recommended an arborvitae screen, so we'll have some new plantings put in this spring. It is around the corner, right?

Cindi , it's good to hear from you. I am sorry that your health has not been good lately. I hope you are on the mend. Thanks for checking in.

I also try to remember that the scale is only a tool. When I am in a good place , this isn't so hard. But when self doubt sellers in ....... It's harder. I have also been eating some gluten again and I am feeling bloated due to that. I really need to buckle down and get back to my healthy lifestyle. It's really not hard to stick to once I get it going. I did start today with a protein powder, fruit and almond milk shake. Forgot how yummy it is emoticon

Cindi, nothing here to forgive, I'm just glad you're feeling better!!

Hi Laura! I probably don't need to tell you this but it's always a good reminder: the scale is merely a tool, not a final verdict. Because I can turn the scale into an obsession, I stay away from it and usually determine my weight by how my clothes fit. (And right now I wish my black pants were a little looser!!) emoticon

Down goes the temperature again, it's another roller-coaster week here!

Good morning, I am relatively new to talking on the teams so a few of you I haven't met.
Nice to meet you emoticon . Woke up this morning and weighed my self. You would think after all these years I would know that its not always about the scale but about how you feel and how your cloths fit but that magic little machine can still depress me when it goes up one instead of down. I know Im getting stronger and muscle has memory and weighs more than fat but I let it get to me sometimes. Going to start my day with a nice bike ride ( in house ) and yoga. Plus a whole bunch of D3 for sunshine since we haven't had any hear in a month I swear !

Ladies, I have not been here in forever. Life has just gotten in the way. With still having to help to take care of my dad. Plus, I had a flu shot and still got the flu and have been so sick for the last 2 weeks. I also, have a number of health issues that will always be with me. Sometimes they are ok and some days they are not.

I am now getting better and things are slowing down, I do hope and pray that I can be here and get to this thread more often. At least, a few times a week.

Please, forgive me ladies. I love you all and miss you when I am not here. emoticon

Good morning, I'm getting all caught up here on everyone's news!

I had a very productive weekend and have already been to the Fitness Center this morning. Saturday, I was doing a yoga video and was a little dismayed to see how much flexibility I've lost. (I've always been flexible and I don't plan on changing that.) I've also been noticing a loss of strength in my arms so it's back to ST for me! It was a good thing for me to do this morning, we'll see if I still say that tomorrow!!

More cold weather on the way. We're in the stage where if it isn't REALLY cold, it's snowing. Last night, it rained and tomorrow is below zero again. Oh well, the days are marching on and this will be but a memory soon!

Have a great Monday!!

Good morning!

It's a quiet one here. My dd is still sleeping, no school today, and the furbabies are apparently taking in the morning view instead of meeping at me because the alarm went off to early to suit them.

Wispy I hope you are enjoying your summer!

It's suppose to be warmer here today so i have plans for DD to go run the yard with the pups while I do some much needed clean up. We have several branches down that needs to be taken to the edge of the woods for decomposition.

Keep enjoying your summer, Wispy!

Late check-in for me. After a leisurely brunch that included Chef Meg's Huevos Rancheros, DH and I headed to a local park for an afternoon hike. We both needed the exercise and fresh air. Then we headed home to make a yummy dinner that included baked sweet potato curly "fries" made with the spiralizer, Brussels sprouts sauteed in garlic and a little olive oil, and Steak Diane. We're all exercised and fed and ready to turn in. G'night, all!

Hi de hi my friends, it is a beautiful still early Sunday morning here with the sun just breaking over the treetops.

Kim that sounds like a wonderful evenings celebrations but I can sure understand why it was not relaxing. That is a large family to meet all at once. What a great surprise to find the same cabinet - thinking this might be a happy omen of things to come. Enjoy your busy day and peaceful evening.
I too woke up in that place today and like you love it when the day starts off like that.

Kali, what is Early Birds? It sounds like a very interesting group to belong to. Three days of time to share with your love sounds delightful.

Celia, hope the sunshine lasts… its all those little tiny things that dance in the sunbeams that makes me think… we are inhaling all that every second and it sure does show up any streaks on the windows. Gary and I got nearly all the windows cleaned last week inside and out so Im very happy with the results. I am loving the sound of your morning.

Have a good weekend everyone.
