Yes it is. Go to your start page. Right at the top on the left hand side is some tiny writing in blue, saying account/email preferences. Click on that, you are presented with three tabs, click on community, then click on edit spark page, that will take you to your spark page, which you can set up to look how you wish, colour, content etc. There are a list of options on the top right, make sure the two boxes 'only let my friends view my spark page' and 'take my page offline' are NOT ticked. Then click on 'save changes' and that should do it.

If you look at the box with my name in it, it has another little box in it called 'my sparkpage' which yours doesn't have. If you click on that box, it takes you to a page that tells you all about me. I think the option is among the privacy settings.

It does work, it's much better than dieting. Again I would like to befriend you, but your pages are private, so there goes that idea!

I've just found this board/site and am still learning to navigate my way around. I got Paul's book 3 days ago and already I'm down 4.8 lbs. Now, I know the first loss is always water and a bit unrealistic, but...call me hooked! Then again I've probably been on every diet this planet has ever conceived. Eternal optimist me. your post caught my eye as I have @ 70 lbs to lose. So far, this program is not a problem for me - but I am an emotional eater so if the "fit hits the shan" we shall see. Other than that emoticon and so glad to find someone out there to relate to!

I would like to friend you, but I can't as your page is private. Please think again about that decision. In the four years I've been on this site, I have never had a problem. I know the modern trend is towards privacy, but honestly, this site is not a problem, and you will get so much more out of it if you are open.

Hi, I've been doing his programme for a while, at least three years. I've moved on a bit, in that I had cancer in 2007, and looked for something to reduce my cancer risk. I started doing intermittent fasting, but I follow the Paul McKenna programme on my non fasting days. If I can help, please ask. I keep an eye on this spark team anyway, as I lost 70 lbs following it.

I also found that stopping while I still had food on my plate was a problem, but I also found that I did better with that than depriving myself of food I wanted. It was easier if I had control of how much I was eating.

Keep in touch, please!

Hi, I saw the TV show Paul McKenna did a few years ago, and so I bought his book, and then just gave it a half hearted try. Problem was, my mind kept wanting to go back to dieting. I didn't believe in the program at all. So suffice to say, I didn't last long and didn't lose a thing (even gained a bit).
But it's a new year and I'm soo tired to dieting. I'm so tired of entering calories or points into a tracker. I feel like my life is passing me by while I "wait to get thin". I would love to try this again, I even bought his iphone app this time! But I figured I need all the support I can get. I noticed this team doesn't seem as active as it once was, but I'll visit often.
I find I have no problem eating only when hungry, and eating what I want. But eating consciously and stopping when full are problems I have. I am so used to shoveling it in that I keep forgetting to slow down and enjoy it. And I usually don't feel full until all of a sudden I'm stuffed. But I'll keep at it this time!

I've been doing Paul McKenna for three years now. I'm 62, and I've lost about 70-80lbs. The last six months I've combined it with the fasting diet to reduce my cancer risk, though I still follow his golden rules on my non fasting days. I have to ask, why on earth are you calorie counting? The whole point is that you listen to your bodies signals, instead of rigidly tracking, since normal thin people eat quite a lot more on some days than others. Also you're not supposed to be sticking to low calorie, or low fat foods. It's against the whole principal of the thing. It's your diet plan, so I'll go away and leave you to it.

Your posting (I am just getting to look at them all now!) was inspirational. I truly believe that by changing the WAY we eat we can eat more consciously and that will result in losing weight. Please post an update as I would like to know how you are doing given that you have been on this program for over 2 years!!!

I have gone through that on 1200 calories also.
What is your age and height?

I'm only a tad over 5' and over 60 so my metabolism is slower too. 1200 will maintain my weight or give a slow gain. I know I'm supposed to eat a minimum of that per day and when I get in a very active day and lots of exercise it is ok, but my normal daily living of sitting as I use the computer doesn't need that much.

Try 100 calories less for a few days and see if it makes a difference. It is all trial and error. Are you also watching your sodium intake and refined carbs? I gain if I eat too many refined grain products like bread and crackers, even if my calorie count is low.

Are you tracking your food on Spark? When you gain, see what you ate in the last 2 days. For example, I could have a fast food meal yesterday and it won't really reflect on my weight fully until tomorrow. So always go back 2 days and check it out. You are on a journey of discovery into how your body works. Do it with a sense of adventure and curiosity, then you will enjoy it.

I realize there hasn't been a post in here for awhile, but I wanted to try to get some advice. I have been doing this program for 31 days now. I do feel much more motivated to walk and exercise and I have done so every single day. I have cut back my calorie intake to 1200 calories a day. I have always drank a lot of water. I'm not losing weight. Started at 219 lbs and went down to 217 lbs and was at 218.2 today. I'm stumped. I don't know what I'm not doing correctly.
Any thoughts???

I am still waiting for my CD I am hoping it will arrive in the post today. I so badly want to start this program and the delay is bothering me. Oh well, either way it will be one day at a time. I see there aren't many new members joining this group from the states. I know this program has been popular in the UK. Has there been positive reviews there? Hope you all are doing well. I was watching the disaster coverage from Oklahoma where a tornado destroyed a small town. Reminds me how precious life is and the time we have even more so.

It's taken me a long time, but it has been worth it, and I still have another 30lbs to go! My motivation was feeling in my 70's when I was only in my 50's! Seeing my flexibility disappearing. Always being the one everyone had to wait for, the one they had to make special plans for, in case I got too tired. Now I'm fitter than any of them!

This was the first time that I managed to stick to a program for long enough to start seeing results, and to be able to stick to it for good so far, even though I have added bits to it and personalised it a little.

Good luck as you start this. It's not always easy, but then it never is, or we'd all be stick thin. Any help or advice I can give, please feel free to ask.

Thank you for your reply!

I congratulate you on your success. Even if I don't lose weight at first, that sense of self worth will be enough for me for a while! This is something I need to stick to for health reasons. I want to see my children grow up and have children. Although they are only 4 and 1 I still worry about my health effecting my time with them, and the quality of the time we have.

Hi Mama_Nurse.

I found I did best easing into it. One rule at a time. Once I was doing one comfortably, i started the next, so it took about a month to get into it properly. When I started, I DIDN'T believe in it. I was willing to give it a go, but I didn't believe in hypnotherepy at all. It still worked. The hardest bit was not weighing for a fortnight! I later realised that it's quite possible that you will gain weight in that first couple of weeks, while you're getting the hang of it.

It's not a quick thing, it's very gradual. I went on to incorporate it into the 5:2 fast diet, which I do for other health benefits, unconnected with my weight, but on days when I'm not fasting, I still follow his golden rules to the letter, and I'm still slowly losing. I also still listen to the CD a couple of times a week, (this is two years on now) I found that it hugely helped my self confidence, and totally changed the way I felt about myself and my appearance. I now LOVE my body! It's strong, and resilient, and it tries hard, and it's the only one I've got!

Thanks Claire! I was just reading your posts too :) Thanks for they advice. I have done so many diets in the past, but none have produced long term results and have left me starving from something missing in my diet... I did Atkins... I missed potatoes and fruits... Weight watchers... I missed steak ect..

I hope things get better from here. I always feel awful right now. Sick to my stomach. I am hoping this will help my body choose what it wants vs. my mind. I hope to communicate with you often :)

Hi, Mama_Nurse!

If you want STONECOT to reply to you, I'm sure she will. The only thing I can share with you is my experience. I truly believe that the CD works miracles on its own, but works even better if you BELIEVE that it works. Every night when I put those earphones on before going to sleep, I say to myself "I'll wake up tomorrow and this will be easier." And it usually is.

I have also found it amusing that I now automatically do things (like refuse sweets because they don't make me feel good) and automatically stop when I'm getting full, whereas I used to blindly eat whatever was in front of me and didn't notice until I felt stuffed.

I don't know that there is anything special that newbies need to know. It isn't a diet (which felt strange to me for a few days, then I felt liberated from diets - that's the best feeling) but a new way of taking care of yourself.

I wish you every success - this does work. I've been on diets since I was 12 years old and this is the only thing that has ever worked.

Cheers!

Claire

Hello, all!

My name is Claire. I bought the I Can Make You Thin set of CDs and also own two copies of the book.

I cannot say enough good things about this lifestyle. I have been set free from a lifetime of food obsession and can finally deal with my obesity issues.

The hardest thing for me so far has been learning to tell when I'm hungry and when I'm full. If I have the urge to eat, but my stomach isn't growling or feeling empty, I ask myself "am I hungry or do I just want to change the way I feel?" Usually, I want to change the way I feel. Since I've overeaten most of my life to mask feelings, this was hard for me. I have learned that sometimes I want to change the way I feel and am at a loss to do so. When that happens, rather than panicking and eating something to make the feeling stop, I've learned to shrug, say to myself "okay, it's just a feeling. Let it pass through and go on to something else."

When I'm hungry, a mentally slim version of me shows up and looks at me and says "I'm hungry, and this is what I want to eat." Some of the requests have been downright weird, but I ate what "she" asked for, and surprisingly, could tell when I'd had enough.

It's also been difficult to get rid of the "diet mentality" - and very freeing to be able to eat bacon for breakfast with a biscuit and gravy (I'm from the Southern US) and not eat it all.

I can tell when I've had enough in two distinct ways, and they are serving me well. 1: when i take a deep breath and kind of sigh during a meal, that's my signal that I don't need any more food. 2: When food stops tasting fabulous and I have trouble telling what I'm eating, I've had enough.

Food tastes better than I ever believed possible. I play that CD every night as I go to sleep and as someone mentioned, it takes a couple of weeks for the changest to really start happening.

I have 200 pounds to lose. I've already lost over 20 pounds (um, is that one stone six?) and it has been so effortless. I plan on being here to chat with and get to know everyone.

If I get blabby, tell me. :)

Best of luck to us all. I truly believe in this idea and think it would work for anyone.

Cheers!

Claire

Hi Vicky, I suspect it may be just the two of us!

I'm also someone who lives on a later clock. In fact during the day, I don't really get hungry at all, so I often wait till 5pm and eat then.

Hello all, I am glad to have found this group. I am new to the Golden Rules, but I love the simplicity. My most difficult one so far is being able to tell the exact moment that I am full. I suppose that gets better with practice and habit.

I usually have just coffee in the morning and get hungry around 11 am. After eating then, I'm usually not hungry again until late at night. I am worrying that this isn't the best time to be eating, but I will trust it for now and see what results I get in two weeks.

i just signed up for this forum last week. I really Like Paul McKenna's Book. I have been following the 4 golden rules for about a week now...It is getting easier to eat what I want and not what I should...I have been on so many diets that I think it will take a little time to give myself permission to eat what I want. I have been focusing on conscious eating this week. That is hard too but it does make a difference. I LOVE the hypnosis CD that came with the book....Kris

Hello All,

I am one month into the McKenna-system. I do have to say I am noticing things, like my clothes getting a little bit looser on me (yay!), and I'm eating slower (without consciously thinking about it). It's weird not weighing myself (I actually hate weighing myself, but when I feel that things are happening for the good... hmmm).

Anyhow, here's to the group! I hope to check in at least once a month to see how folks are doing.

Ok. I too hear what you're saying! It seems to me that losing weight is, although important, not the only thing you have to worry about. That is good, too many people become obsessed to the exclusion of everything else. I'm a great believer in keeping things simple, and going with the flow, so I suggest looking at what you CAN do, rather than what you can't. Obviously I don't know you, and uk culture is different to yours, but I would eat with your kids, whatever they're eating. Their stomachs have a more unspoiled hunger signal than yours, allow their eating pattern to become yours. If they're snacking/not eating regular meals, well it's not good for them either, but I bet you make sure that their eating is good! You take better care of them than yourself, right? Don't bother about tracking, just eat a little less this week than last week. Show your children that it's ok to leave the last couple of mouthfuls on the plate. You will not lose pounds to start with, but as your stomach shrinks, your weight will go down. Go back to baby steps. Switch off the tv, computer, teach them to appreciate what they're eating, encourage chatting between mouthfuls, don't teach them to eat quickly to get on to the next thing. You are their role model, what you do is almost more important to teach them sensible eating habits, than it is for you. You don't want them treading the same path.

I hear you. I seem to be ping ponging between two ideas: sparkpeopling and Paul McKennaing. Still trying to get my thyroid working right (adrenals aren't too great either)..change of medication. Anyway, I am not thinking as clearly or have as much energy as I have had in the past. Ugh. Hopefully, that will change soon . So, I'm thinking about doing what I know: Sparkpeopling (eating a certain way) and on the other hand, doing something new (a little different than Intuitive Eating) Paul mckenna. I think the reason this is so hard for me is because I have no idea what I EVER want to eat these days. I can't tell. (I've done it in the past). I am really trying. I wait until I'm hungry and give myself permission to eat whatever I want and I can't seem to figure it out. Then I just give up or wait longer and get way too hungry. See? Ping pong.

you need to listen to the cd when you can really relax. You sink into a sleep state, and your deeper brain absorbs the message. After about a fortnight of listening, it suddenly gets easier, and your confidence and motivation increase a lot. It's well worth sticking with. You don't need to spark while you're eating, sparking is a lot less important, and you need to take time out for yourself, you are certainly as important as the children. They all need to fit in with your schedule, not you with theirs!

OK! I'm trying to get back in this game. Read the book. Listened to the cd and was a little confused as to how that will help me. I think he is supposed to be on Dr. Oz show; don't normally watch that though. Might tune in, if my tv will keep the channel.

Anyway, I have the hardest time eating when i am hungry AND focusing on what I am eating. I am home all day homeschooling my kids. I eat when i can and try hard to focus on it and enjoy it, but I usually have to do at least two things at a time...check Sparkpeople, etc while eating. Too hard to have time just to eat. Anyone else with this problem?

I'll give this book a try!

I had quite a good day yesterday, I wasn't hungry till 10am, but then I had scrambled egg on toast, and left the last mouthful of toast, I couldn't resist the egg though emoticon then I made chicken pie for dinner, I've decided to miss out on potatoes most of the time, as I don't really like them and only eat them because I'm expected to! Tasteless things! So I had broccoli, sprouts and carrots. Then I was peckish again in the evening and had some nuts. I had three cans of beer, and I stopped there and went to bed instead of starting another. I really enjoyed my food today, and I'm looking forward to seeing my son this evening.

Stonecot, I check in on this page as well as the Inside Out Weight Loss Team and the Intuitive Eating team. I think all 3 of these teams are consistent. I have all 3 books and find this one to be the simplest one.

Hi, my name is Evelyn, I was a Paul McKenna follower, but fell off the wagon and went back to tracking, with the result that I'm putting weight back on again. Time for a rethink. Back to basics. One golden rule at a time. Number one is to only eat when I'm hungry, linked to, Eat when hungry, since I ignore the hunger signals, but then eat after I'm full.
