congrats on finishing that long bike ride, I would say spark should be pretty close on the calories, biking is a good calorie burner.

I am still waking up around 3 or 4 am each morning and not getting back to sleep for a long time, then getting up at 6. not sure what this is, im guessing its from not taking my allergy medicine, since i ran out on monday, and its pretty warm in the house around that time, its cooler when we wake up. I dunno, im guessing here.

its friday! i've had a pretty decent week overall. we went to mcdonalds wed to celebrate the first day of school. my sis and i looked at the nutrition on the sandwiches we got, and it wasnt so much the calories, but all the fat and sodium!! based on our calorie intake for the day, we had just consumed our max sodium, fat and saturated fat for the day in that one sandwich! it was crazy! I had a diet coke too but didnt finish it. i dont miss drinking soda, its gross now. we ran to the gym afterwards and sweat out some of that gross fat. ick. lesson learned.

im not on here on weekends because i dont have internet at home, but i hope everyone has a good weekend tho.

Good morning all! Got better sleep last night. Still woke up a couple of times but still better than the night before.

Worked out this morning, did a mile with Leslie Samson & did a little bit of weights. Today I am refocusing on not drinking my stupid calories with sodas and what not. How easy it is to slip back into that nasty habit. I will get in my water today if it kills me!

Greetings!

Yesterday I rode to the other side of town. What is normally a 75 minute round trip on my bike on a bike path, took 111 minutes, due to construction detours, etc. It was hard biking, because of hills, wind, traffic, rocky pavement, etc., and I came back exhausted, dehydrated, starved, hot, you name it. To feel better about the whole fiasco, I entered it into my cardio, heck, I was pumping and sweating bullets around SW Germany for what seemed forever. Spark showed I had burned 1,100 calories!!!! Can that be for real?

I didn't even sleep all that well, I was so over tired.

Today I picked up with the Mayhem challenge which I cancelled yesterday because of the obvious. Got that done, and did it well, but I feel I'm still recovering from yesterday.

But I have another (shorter) bike ride scheduled for this p.m.... that adrenaline rush keeps me out there!

Have a great Friday everyone, and don't disappear for the rest of the weekend... it gets lonely in this team.

Allright I think today was a fairly good day. I was hungry after my veggies and shrimp for dinner so I snacked on 3 chicken wings. Not the wisest choice, but the rest of the day was pretty decent.

For those of you that don't know... His mom passed away last week. Send him some good thoughts, okay. I didn't say anything before because I thought I would let him say something if he wanted... he posted something today under what's on Mr. D's mind... anyway... there it is.

I left him a link to a lingerie pic on his page, I was hoping that would bring him back quickly!

Doing okay so far today I think, except that I got a salad from the grocery store and they put the NASTIEST chicken EVER on it. It was like rubbery and chewy...groooooooss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried to head outside on my lunch break to do my running training program and I forgot that the path is really hilly. Me running on flat surfaces, not so bad, but me running up a hill did not work so well at all!!!!!!! I ended up walking instead but it's hot out anyways so maybe it's for the best.
Hitting the gym after work to do it over again on the treadmill.

I went to the fair yesterday, ohhhh the smells! All I had was a bottled water and I was rewarded this morning with making my short term goal! Woo Hoo! I have now set my ticker to my long term goal of 144.

I love the clean eating idea, I'm trying to introduce 1 new food each week into the mix, so far, my family has been ok with it. Sometimes they don't even know...........

The clean eating thing sounds very interesting and a definite challenge. I don't know if I could do it with a vacation on the horizon ... or clarification, I don't know if I would WANT to :). But I would be interesting in lurking till I could start something in September.

If I had any doubts about whether my new CPAP machine was helping me...those doubts have been answered. It IS helping. Last night I took the mask off around midnight, I usually leave it on till around 3:00. Man today I feel like complete and total Sh!t. I am tired, dragging, achey, ill, you name it and I am it...anything other than perky and happy. I was just really starting to feel better too. =(

Checking in... I'm doing fantastic!

For the first time since I started the new diet (July 10), I stuck to it 100% yesterday! I DID NOT CHEAT ONCE, NOT EVEN A BITE!!

I also did 20 minutes on the elliptical and swam 100 LAPS. Usually I only do 80 laps and call it a day (with no added elliptical), but NOPE! I was feeling GREAT! I love my underwater MP3 player!

Awesome! Okay... let me get some stuff together and we will get on it. I have lost 2 inches off my chest and 1.5 off of my waist in 2.5 weeks just by following some simple rules...

I will put it together and get one posted over the weekend at the latest! AWESOME!

I have not been taking this very serious lately, I went on vaca and slipped up a few times here and there, and then today was just...I blew it, let's leave it at that.
It ends right now. Now. NOW.
I am here to focus on myself and what my body needs-healthy eating and exercise.
I am going to hold myself accountable to check in here every day for the next week to make sure I am having "perfect" days-staying within calories, eating my fruits/veggies, drinking my water, minimal carbs, and daily exercise.
After one week, I know it will be second nature again and I'll be just fine. I just need like one week of "food detox"!

I would be interested in a clean eating challenge. I'm doing pretty good, I know I have areas needing improvements. I think they will improve as I educate myself. The rainbow challenge I just did was fabulous! I was going to keep doing that.

Hey Lori- I am been slowly cleaning up my diet also. I am trying to stay away from most processed foods and really limit eating out. Right now I am concentrating on limiting grains and gluten-rich foods.

I would be up for a challenge!

FRENZTI -- I agree with you there about not calling it "good" or "bad"... how old are the kids? Are they really little, because then "good" or "bad" might not make too much of an impact, but if they're older (like 7 or above), then they might start developing those emotional tags.

VILLA -- Weelllll... even though I cheat, it's still pretty restrictive because I'll just have a few bites of something, but I'm trying to stop with the bites! I hid the fresh mozzarella in the back of the fridge (that's my biggest culprit!) so maybe that'll help!

FRENZTI, my 10 year old refers to "healthy" food all the time. He doesn't call the junk food anything. He's getting into it, he asked me if we could make something with tofu because he heard it was healthy.......so I will be finding a recipe and he will be helping cook.

Good morning everyone. I am doing spectacular today! My CPAP machine must be helping cause I feel much more rested. It's either that or the iron the doc has me on. I even lifted some weights last night. Which is more than I've done in about a month or so.

All 3 kids started back to school this morning. Fun times to be had once that starts getting into full swing.

If you are in a very restrictive diet, but you are cheating on it everyday, are you REALLY following such a restrictive diet?
How's it going this week?

I'm doing good today, will be hitting the gym tonite. Pressed for time, have to get the kids to the school for meet the teacher nite. im excited but also sad. With both kids in school now, they are no longer babies.

im still fighting with my dad about the kids eating healthy. he thinks i should not call it being healthy (eating right, keeping active) i should just say, this is a bad food, that is a good food. i dont think thats right, i think that would cause problems for them mentally later, i dont want them to be emotional eaters like me or have an unhealthy relationship with food. anyone have ideas on this?

Hello, checking in with the team.

It's a stormy day here in Freiburg. I was planning on biking to Ikea for stuff... but no go. Yesterday it was raining too, and I could not bike then either. So I tried a 10 min rope jumping Coach Nicole video and repeated it for a 30 min workout... my calves will never be the same! Anyone's tried that? It's not one tenth the fun of biking, but it's a great indoor alternative cardio. I did it with more intensity than she encourages, and it was great.

Enjoy your Tuesday you U.S.of A'ers.

Checking in!

I've been good with my fitness lately, if not better overall -- it's a rare day that I go without at least a 30-minute workout, and usually closer to 1 - 1.5 hours.

I've been slacking in the food department though. I've been on a really restrictive diet and I've cheated every day since I started (even though I've still been losing weight and even with the "cheating" I've still been taking in much fewer calories than I was). I let myself go for the weekend, and figured I'd re-start on Monday. What did I have for breakfast this morning? A mocha coolatta and a chocolate frosted donut *headwall*

Somebody bash me with the monkey bat!

I spent today and yesterday working hard in my yard trying to get it in order. We got busy and haven't cut the grass and stuff in a while.

I also slacked off on my eating and I'm working on getting that back under control as well. Right now, sleep is #1 priority. I went last week for a sleep study and have severe apnea. I have a CPAP machine and am trying to get used to using it. I wake up about 3:00 and take it off but I can tell it's helping with just that long wearing it. I am a lot easier waking up in the morning and not quite so tired in the day.

I my plan this week is to focus on sleep, tighten up my eating and get back into at least getting back into doing my office challenges every day. That's my plan for the week!

No workouts all last week due to excessive house organizing/cleaning. I worked hard all day each day to complete tasks and made no time for the gym. I wore myself out each day though.

Problem is that I feel guilty for missing the gym and my workouts. Perhaps I should have hit the gym first and then worked on the house. Ugh.

Sue,

You will get to feeling better. Being sick is hard to come back from. Don't worry about things until you start feeling better. Your body needs its strength and energy to get well. Also you have been in this long enough that you should know that it will take a bit to get back in gear. Don't give up and keep your diet in check. You will do just fine. .

Momlyn - be careful and listen to your body. Better to take a day or two off and play it safe then over stress things. You will end up hurt and missing more time than just a few days. Trust me I know this as I have done it more than once... as far as the hot guys... HOT GUYS ARE HOT GUYS!

I am doing pretty well with my eating clean routine. Kprato kicks butt and has been great about keeping me in check! MUAH! I am dying to get on the scale because I have seen huge improvements! I have leaned up and dropped inches....

It's all good. hope your weekend is going well!

My co-worker brought in a few huge zuchinnis this morning. I live close so, at lunch I grabbed one and brought it home. By the time lunch was done, I had baked it into a hot healty snack to share with my co-workers.
So that's the good part. Here's where the whining and excuses comes in. I lose all sensation in one leg periodically (Army injury) and it happened in the shower for the first time yeasturday a.m. I fell and did not land well. I was sore from that last night so, thought I would do stability ball excercises and take it easy on my lower body. I popped in the DVD that came with the ball. I realized that some of the leg exercises were not safe for knees - I shoulda paid more attention to the back exercises - cuz mine is really sore today. My ouchies are currently competing for attention. I have not worked out, I will do upper body, but that's it for today.
I'd like to be lazy but, I have met several amputees in the past week that made me realize a lot of good things - including that I need get back on track taking care of my body. I have all my parts and most of them work right, most of the time, and that's too special to take for granted. (I also discovered those guys were HOT. Their attitudes and humor were irresistable, each in a different yummy way. I'm a perv, I know.)

I have been very unmotivated for the first time since I started my weight loss journey in Feb. I've been sick for 9 days, and my dr.'s office has not been helpful at all. After this, I will be changing doctors.

I haven't been able to exercise in a week, and I haven't cared/felt like cooking well. I'm just ready to get to feeling better, and back to exercising and eating good. Ugh!

I am trying to get motivated today to exercise more. I got in 840 minutes last week and I think I burnt myself out. The last couple of days I have done minimal exercise and have not pushed myself at all.

I have a sand volleyball game tonight and the weather is great here, so I am going to try to plan really hard.

I also just got in some TurboJam dvds- going to try those this weekend, and a friend has convinced me to try a 90min jazzercise class at 9am tomorrow morning.

I just feel really lazy right now, but usually once I get going I am pretty good. Inertia can be a (*%#@Z*. :)

I keep being told that the slower you take it off, the more like you are to maintain it. And, like Lori said, 1-2 pounds a week is normal and safest. You didn't gain 50 pounds in 5 months.

yeah... that is doable... just don't stress yourself out over it though. 1-2 lbs. a week is all you should aim for.

Thanks Mom for the info! Great ideas!

Heres something i just got from another team: a lose 50 lbs in 5 months challenge.

I was working on losing 20 lbs in about the same time, does anyone think this sounds doable or safe? It averages out to about 2lbs a week, whereas im only aiming for 1lb a week. (slow burn=long term weight loss)

what does everyone else think?

For alternate protein sources try: combinig beans and rice or lentils and rice. (beans and lentils don't have ALL the amino acids it takes to build human proteins - the rice has those missing elements; which is probably why they taste so yummy together) Another fabulously underrated source is Quinoa - it is a high-protein grain you cook like rice and it tastes like cashews.
I make most of my own bread and use some quinoa flour and chickpea four to increase the protein & use baby formula in place of powdered milk to increase calcium and other nutrients. Yogurt is good for both cacium & protein.
Dark greens like collards are really high in calcium. Collards have a richer, taste than spinach (and are higher in nutrients) and can be easily substitued in any recipe that calls for spinach. Collards also blend into tomato-based sauces so you can shred some up and hide them.

For me it is no processed foods, no refined sugars, no high fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils. Fish, chicken, turkey, lean red meat once a week, lots of fresh fruits and veggies. That is pretty much it. As close to natural as you can get.

I have done it since monday with a minimum of boo boos... and I feel great! I have leaned up and I know I have lost weight because my clothes are fitting better.

I have more energy, I am not as fatigued and I am even sleeping better.

I also am not eating after 7:30 at night.

O.K. stupid question--what is 'clean eating'.

I always hear it mentioned, and it's meaning is pretty well insinuated- but is it unprocessed, organic, just fruit & veggies-what exactly?

All of those bean choices are good. Those are perfect. The more you can get away from the processed stuff the better.

Just pick a higher quality cut like sirloin. the less marbled the better.
Buffalo is REALLY good and SUPER lean. You can get it at a whole foods place or central market.

Shrimp and crab are also loaded with protien and low in calories.

duh, i dont know why i didnt think of fish! probably because the kids only eat fish sticks and i cant stand them. I like seafood, so I will check out the grocery ad this week and pick some up.

I have some dry bagged beans that I make stew with, would those be about the same? they are northern beans, split pea i think, navy beans, and there are some pinto beans. if they are good for protien i will try some of them, we usually only eat them in the fall/winter.

what would a good lean meat be? like an example of one? I dont like hamburger, even the ones that are almost fat free, i used to eat pork chops in the slow cooker, but i have a feeling that they arent lean.

I'll probably end up taking the suppliments too. im trying hard to go the natural way on everything, but id rather take the suppliment than risk not having enough calcium.

Fish is an excellent source of course but I know it's not for everyone.

Legumes are really good! Black beans especially. Don't eat ranch style beans or baked beans... just plain old beans. Pinto beans are good too!

LEAN red meat is okay once or twice a week just make sure it is VERY lean. Buffalo is good too if you have a market around that sells it.

I struggle with calcium too. Try a supplement... that's what I do. I just can't get enough in.

As far as the cake... JUST say NO! LOL
Good to see you doing well today!

great idea!

Today for check-in, im really motivated, even tho i have to order a b-day cake today for the weekend, not even tempted.

I am having diatary issues, which i mentioned in another tread. having trouble getting enough calcium with lactose sensitivity (bad but not as bad as intolerant). I also need more protien options, im tired of chicken breasts.
