Fortunately the group is working with a lobbyist, so let's keep our fingers crossed that they win their battle. I talked to the leader yesterday and this will be happening across the country, so this could potentially affect thousands of dogs.
Dogstardaddy - saw you are a member of the Dobe group. Did you see the Doberman in the Westminster Kennel club dog show last night? BEAUTIFUL dog....should have taken best in show!
Thank you! - I posted out on the Group for Rescue dogs/cats all of the senator's names and emails to contact with a polite letter. Even though I don't live in Iowa, I think the letters will help to see that there is national attention.
I totally agree. It doesn't seem right that no provisions are being made. I will have to contact my greyhound organization and see if they think there is anything that someone from Ohio can do.

Thank you so much Bob Schwartz (I Run, Therefore I Am- Nuts!) for this lovely, funny insight into my life.

Whether they pass the bills or not, they should have provisions for these dogs that have obviously generated so much income and entertainment for the state. To ignore them and just dump them out would be a crime. So sad....
Thank you for all you are doing to help this gentle breed. We have not had racing in my home state for many years, but were able to get the kind of help I pray will be forthcoming in Iowa. Both of our greys were adopted from Massachusetts, but there are rescue shelters in many of the N.E. states. Sue

Hi - I found out this morning that the Iowa is considering a bill to end Greyhound racing. Heartland Greyhound Adoption (HGA) works with the Iowa track and this is where I adopted my Greyhound. HGA is desperately trying to get the legislative group to protect the dogs in the case racing is ended in Iowa. The current language in both of the bills does not protect the animals because there are no provisions for care and adoption of these animals if the track is closed. We all know where that would lead - I believe there are 900 dogs in the Iowa racing group.
I am not a resident of Iowa, but sent an email to the senators this morning pleading for funding for adoptions, NO EUTHANASIA of these animals, and only appropriate Greyhound Adoption groups to manage the animals. If you would like to see a copy of my email and the information to send your opinion to the state, please let me know.
