I would love to grow those trees but I'm afraid it's just not warm enough here. We have lovely greengages though and Marjorie Seedling plums. There are cooking apples and some eating ones although they were pretty sparse this year.
We've just harvested our heritage potatoes and had some for dinner, mmmm.

Fell by the wayside last year but back on track now.

I do love growing fruits. I have a Meyer lemon tree, a loquat tree, a fig tree, and a Santa Rosa plum tree, and I recently planted a persimmon and an avocado tree.

The figs were so good this year. My bushes were full.

It must be great to have such delicious fruits so readily available. We've been picking greengages which I must admit we both love. They won't get beyond the fruit bowl. It's just a small tree so there aren't that many. Other plums not ready yet but we've lifted some potatoes today too.

I have a fig tree, and boy, do I have figs. I just picked 4 baskets, and they are in the oven drying. But that's just a drop in the bucket.

It may be that it has been too dry for the sprouts. It's years since I grew them so who knows.

I love the idea of growing calla lillies outdoors but my problem is the opposite of Foxglove's. It's too cold here to leave them all winter. I can grow crocus and do but the ones left in the ground become slowly depleted as the mice eat them and then to add insult to injury the rabbits will come in and eat the flowers if I'm not quick enough to protect them.

I just planted my brussel sprouts and have never grown them before, so I don't know, sorry.

I'm hoping to get some calla lilies to plant along the side of my house, but other than that I've run out of places to plant bulbs. I have tulips, hyacinths, daffodils. snow drops, snow flakes, and tons of paper white narcissus, oh, and iris, that come up every year. I love crocus, but we can't grow them here, it doesn't get cold enough. I could force them, but they won't naturalize.

I am growing Brussel Sprouts and they just don't seem to be doing anything. There isn't any little brussel sprouts on the side of the stem yet.
Anyone have any subjection's on what is going on.

Too warm outside for me to plant my bulbs for spring just yet. It is finally raining this afternoon. I have tulips, daffodils, and crocus that I want to plant this year. Maybe it will get cool enough to do it soon.

Could you maybe buy some plug plants online? I've been buying some spring bulbs for my pots. It means having to lift my summer bedding and I'm loathe to do that just yet. We haven't had a frost yet but it can't be far away unfortunately.

You could try a few seeds anyway. Nothing ventured and all that.

Just put in my fall garden yesterday. Planted broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and beets. I would like to plant some other veggies, but my local nursery is limited. My mother suggested driving to one in Berkeley, but that is at least a half hour away. I have considered trying to start some things from seed, but I never have very much luck with that.

Have been working in my little greenhouse where I have some roses there to grow a little more and am planning to plant some bulbs and seeds for things I may be able to sell this spring.

Planted "cold weather herbs". Repotted tomatoes and Geraniums but they are in my greenhouse. No heat at night, but hot in the day time. Outside it is in the 50's, The greenhouse get to 100 during the day. So far so good. This is the first time of many tries that I have been able to over winter geraniums. .... so I am proud to see them greening up. I water by hand....will be out of town for 8 days, hope they make it then.

Having a time with candy...I'll go for a few day, and than zoom eating candy. Fortunately the habit is begining to make me feel bad, and that helps.

Other than planting some pansies in my window box, I am also waiting for better weather. It dropped to 34 last night. Not quite freezing, but I'm going to wait until we have some stability with the weather before putting anything in the ground. I may buy some bare root grapes if I can find some that aren't too expensive, but flowers and such will have to wait.

I am not planting anything in my community garden, till the end of April and if doesn't warm up enough may not plant till the middle of May.

Last year my sister called to inform me Costco had their bedding plants in. Well, like an idiot I rushed out to buy some bedding plants only for them to all die the following week. I thought oh, great, I should have realized 300 kilometres and higher altitude, was the wrong time to buy bedding plants compared to the lower mainland. Oh, big sis always is right, a notion stemmed from childhood.

She called me last night to inform of Costco plants were in and proceeded to tell me what she bought. I assured her yes, I was at Costco today myself but did not buy any plants. As too early in the season. I have not had much luck with Costco plants, I prefer local nurseries that open at the end of April in my area.

Wow, five miles! My back won't let me walk that far, although I do jog 4 miles in the therapy pool at the Y. Yay, I"m on spring break this week and the weather is finally decent in southern IN. I'm going to go buy mulch for my front flower bed and try to get it mulched today, along with transplanting my hydrangea. The daffodils are blooming- spring is finally on it's way!

Glad to hear you are having some decent weather. Finally! It is warming up in Chicago, at least for the day. Hahahaha!
I"m having a candy problem too! i think it"s all the Easter candy everywhere. It is too fun to pass up. Although I did walk 5 miles today with my daughter downtown-and loved every minute of it!
Still too early here for plants- too cold at night. It's true- in Chicago we have to wait until Mother's Day.
Good luck with the veggies!

javagirl- you know there's a pot brewing somewhere...

Out in my sunny warm greenhouse this morning. My geraniums that I harbored over winter have been potted and are greening up. My lettuce, kale, swiss chard, kohlrabi and tomato plants have been transferred into larger pots with more soil, and they look happy and are growing bigger. I have planted many herbs out side, they are not getting any larger, but they are still alive. The nights get down to the 40's. A beautiful early morning, but as soon as the sun goes down, the wind comes up...and it is chilly.
