emoticon Merry Christmas everyone!

The lantana I am over-wintering indoors is about to have 2 blooms! Of course they are much smaller than the summer-time blooms, but it's going to bloom! whoohooo!

In our woods, we have a lot of those juniper trees you see along the sides of highways. We dug up one of the smaller ones from a crowded area and potted it for our Christmas tree. LOL We'll replant it after Christmas in a spot where I am slowly planting a living hedge to hide the neighbor's back deck and pool.

Blessings,
Heidi

We keep getting passing snow showers this morning. Pretty, but not sticking at all. And that's okay!

It was supposed to snow here last night, but if it did, it's gone now. It's 34 degrees and wet. Watching the birds mobbing my feeders. Time to go buy another stack of suet cakes and a 20 lb bag of sunflower seeds!

Well with the snow in the mountains and ski season open it seems more like the Holiday Season has started.
I am wrapping gifts today as the Christmas Carols are turned on the Satellite radio. Love this time of year.
I hope everyone is enjoying the season and take the time for yourself just to relax and enjoy what your doing.
Have a great weekend. Sandy

Is anyone still harvesting veggies? My tomatoes finally froze last week, so I need to pull up the slimy black vines. Fun fun!

Happy Monday everyone, it has been a beautiful day here. We are in the upper 70s and sunny skies now for over two weeks. We may even break a record for the rain gauge as well the old record for August through September is .19 inch of rain and right now we only .03 inch of rain measured for this time period. Pretty dry for thie West side of the mountain.
We had a great weekend starting off Friday with a shopping trip to the mall in Burlington and Saturday was a game of golf and a walking garage sale hunt for values in our neighborhood, we walked two and a half miles and it only cost us a $1.50 for a donation to the local school soccer team for their uniforms. So we did not find anything we needed so we left it for others to enjoy.
Sunday was a laid back and enjoy each others company and time to wind down before the new week started.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying busy and focused on your goals. Sandy

Hi team!! My goodness it has been a long time since I have chatted with all of you!
In the last year and half my husband had a heart attack and went down hill fast. I now have him in a Care Home and he is holding on pretty good but has dementia.

I am finally getting my life back together and have missed my Spark buddies.
I enjoyed the chat from Golddusttwin about her puppy. When I put my DH in the Care Home I also got two kittens. They will be a year old next month.
What wonderful company they are!

My gardens are full of weeds since I spend most of my time with DH at the Care Home.
But I have enjoyed one flowerbed that I notice a bunch of Wild Sunflowers coming up this summer. I let them grow since nothing else was in there.
They are so pretty now, just full of blooms!!!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

My gardens are pretty much done for the year...a lonely hibiscus is blooming, sedum and Russian sage, morning glories and mums ...off the top of my head. It has been so dry here...new record for the driest in almost a quarter of a century! Temps are getting down in the low 40's at night now.
I enjoyed sleeping with the window (singular) open last night...it was 44 this morning! Cuddles hurried to do her business and \get back inside! Have a great day! Have a great weekend and do something fun! I get to see the grandkids and Cuddles is happy about that...she would much rather be with them than me!

Here is a chuckle for you! I do believe Cuddles is building a skelton bone by bone...she has a pie of marrow bones different sizes 8 now that she carrys around but is now alternating with the mallard duck toy! This morning she spent time moving from the French Doors that are open...gazing at the birds bathing in her pink swimming pool, to the sofa in the livingroom where she watches the children walking down to the bus stop. She is a treasure and every so often a bit of puppy comes out of her. I picked up a 40ft tie out cable to go round the clothesline pole so she has a 40 ft diameter to explore while I am working in the yard. I have to do this because if I get busy, or she gets spooked she would be off and gone and I can not keep up with her! She runs as gracefully as a horse a beautiful gait! Well off to get something done but had to share!

We had a month's rain in just 24 hours yesterday! Hopefully it will be easier to transplant some of my perennials. Our trees have grown so much that we don't seem to get the blooms like we used to get.
Can anyone recommend a perennial that will flower in July and August in a shady location? I live in Southern Ontario, Canada.

Hello everyone, we had a nice weekend starting with a game of golf on Friday and a picnic on Saturday.
Sunday we celebrated Hubby's birthday and cooked steak on the grill. We watched a lot of Nascar on TV this past weekend, it was his weekend to pick what we did.
I did drag him outside long enough to trim some bamboo back around the cedar trees and edge the yard and flower beds.
We washed all three vehicles on Monday and got a lot of exercise doing that.
All in all we enjoyed hanging around the house and being together.
Well school started here so it was less noisy around here with the kids gone to school as they usually ride their bikes and skate boards up and down our street.
Enjoy the rest of your week. Sandy

"BACK TO SCHOOL" how in the world is it already time for back to school?
I was at Joann's yesterday and they have all there Autumn decorations out for sale.
Where did Summer go?
I stayed busy all Summer but am not ready for the cooler weather yet seeing that we don't have much of a Summer on this side of the mountain.
I did pick raspberries, blueberries and strawberries as well as tomatoes from my plants today.
I will miss getting the fresh fruits and veggies from the flower beds.
Hope everyone is doing good. I plan a Buddy system after school is up and running to get us focused on ourselves again and back on track before the holidays hit.
Have a great rest of your week. Sandy

You're right Sandy, this summer has gone quickly. I just harvested my first zucchini yesterday and stir fried it with mushrooms tonight. (We got our garden in very late this year.)

Thanks for reminding me, I need some printer ink! Time to hit the office supply store.

I added a new photo for the team page as this is a summer bloomer and attracts hummingbirds.
I have been staying on my maintenance plan and exercise daily usually walking around the neighborhood from two to three miles per day along with other exercise and taking care of the house and the lawn.

Seems as though school just got out and the back to school sales have been in full swing for two weeks. The one thing that I do enjoy about the sales it is a good time to restock on office supplies,

Best wishes to everyone as you work toward your goals.

It's very hot here in Texas. My last few tomato plants just gave out and my pepper plants are barely hanging in there.

WE NEED SOME RAIN.

Yes everything is changing. I always was intrigued by the monarchs migration. I always wanted to see this. Maybe I should make plans this year. Thank you for this great information. emoticon

Did you know...this past Spring was the warmest in 117 years of record keeping & the warmest 12 months ever recorded in the United States. In response to the warm conditions the plants and insects made early appearances. Some plants bloomed 6 weeks early, others a more modest 2 weeks. Most insects appear to have kept pace including monarchs that arrived 2-3 weeks early over most of the northern breeding range - raising the possibility of a large fall migration - maybe the last big migration of this decade.

Climatologists are telling us that hotter summers with strong droughts are ahead and that won't be good for monarchs. Habitat decline will continue as well emoticon

Yesterday and the day before were in the 100*s and today was cooler with only 87* with a slight breeze. We are suppose to get rain today and the sky looks clear alternating between sunny and overcast. Much better temp. so getting my walks in are easier. Lucinda

Hello everyone, we just got home from playing a full day of golf. It is beautiful here and a perfect temperature of 75 degrees for a high today. There has been a slight breeze and that blew all the clouds away early this morning.
There were tons of fireworks to see last night as they are legal here and people take full advantage of making noise on the fourth. Needless to say we got very little sleep last night but all in good fun.
We painted the pergola yesterday and it looks so nice, it was in need of a coat of fresh paint with all the wet weather here you can imagine that moss grows on anything that does not move faster than a snail. So we got a lot done in the past few days and more plans tomorrow as we are going to Whole Foods and Super Supplements over in Redman first thing in the morning and then over to Lowes to get mulch for the flower beds in the evening.
Plans for Saturday includes a picnic at Kayak State Park on the ocean so that will be fun.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week and keeping busy with friends and family.
Chat soon. Sandy

happy anniversary Sandy! Hope it was a nice one.
Not much going on where I live the weather has been so nice and cool lately I've enjoyed it very much. Wed. and Thur. the temp is to be up in the 100*s so will be watering everyday hoping the garden survives. There are lots of flowers on all of the plants so I should have lots of produce to eat and share. Won't be out walking my usual time the next two days hope it will cool down by Friday so the weekend will be enjoyable. Take care, Lucinda

I know I am not as active on the team as I should be. We have been playing a lot of golf and have taken a couple of weekend trips.
Elvis the cat is getting very large he is almost 19 pounds and is forty two inches from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail.
Tazz the dog is getting very old in human years 102 this year. He is 16 years old and we don't expect him to be with us much longer so we have been taking him on trips with us and spending a lot of time with him.
My flowers are doing well there in Kennewick at our home there and the ones here are being over watered by Mother Nature, the Hosta are doing wonderful as are the hanging baskets and the entry flowers. The dahlias seem to be attracting the slugs this year. My one tomato plant is very healthy in bloom with hopes of having a real tomato this year. The Raspberries and Blueberries are loaded can't wait until they get ripe.
I can't believe this is the third week of June already the weather here still feels like April would feel there on the East side of the state. The warmest day so far this year has been 76 degrees how crazy is that. I have not even worn a pair of shorts yet this year let alone getting any sun at all I am getting to look like the ladies that live on the West side of the mountain my skin is turning white instead of a nice Native American tan:) Life is what it is and I am enjoying every day of being healthy.
We celebrate our thirty first anniversary on the 27th of the month seems like yesterday we were standing in our back yard there in West Richland and having the preacher walk us through our wedding vows. I guess we are getting old!!
Hey I feel like I am still in my forties so I will just act like it as well.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week. Sandy

For the last 2 days our temp was up in the 90*s but today we got a repreve of only low 80*s. Not much action going on in the garden but still have my lettuce and spinach growing and letting some of the onions get big bulbs. My 2 tomato plants have lots of flowers and the basil is going full tilt. Not many weeds with all the garden filled with plants so very little weeding (thank goodness!) Lucinda

Hi, I wish it would cool off. I never do well in this heat. Anyway didn't want to do much today but I had to water and lo and behold I have pumpkins! Anyone else growing pumpkins? I love seeing them because it makes me feel like my favorite season is coming.
Kat. I have seen somewhere where that actually have tall planters for people to garden that can't bend over. I wish I could remember where I saw It. I'll try and find out where. Good day everyone. emoticon

It got down to 40 degrees here last night, bit of a shock to the tomato starts. I haven't had time to prepare their bed yet, but hope to before the weekend. Mom is moving in Monday, and we're putting the finishing touches on her room, the bathroom, etc. Have to move furniture around too, to make it easier for her to maneuver. She used to be an avid gardener, but since the hip replacement she can't get down and weed or spade, so I have to find something she CAN do - maybe deadheading rhodies. emoticon

It's a sunny day, but the breeze is very chilly. Time to go outside and play.

We finally received rain Sunday night or early Monday morning after about 10 days of high heat. Will have to water tonight but with the rain all the plants grew at least a foot in heigth and the tomatoes have flowers on them! Hopefully there will be a good crop this year on tomatoes. Lots of lettuce, spinach and basil but just about done with the first 2. I'm drying the basil this year instead of freezing it so I have a choice of which I want to use. Lucinda

I love the weekends. I still get up early but instead of rushing kids of to school I can enjoy coffe and a book and a breeze on my patio. Feeling much better after a month of stand still I seem to be back into my slow weight loss again. The garden is great right now. Have a new jasmine plant another great reason to wake up early, they smell so nice when it's still cool. Very excited also I have 5 sweet potato plants I started from slips a couple weeks ago and they are going strong, this will be the first attempt for me can't wait till fall. Hope everyone enjoys this Sunday!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. My one tomato plant I bought full grown at Costco as they never grow from small plants over here. It has blooms on it now but no little tomatoes just yet. I am glad to see all the garden talk I sure miss my garden at home in Eastern Washington.
Over here at this home I pick up more golf balls than any thing I grow. My herbs are doing very well as they are left over from last year as all my flower beds are full of last years flowers and plants. That is one thing about the West side of the state it doesn't get cold enough to freeze things in the winter months even with snow.
I am having a busy weekend and keeping myself busy learning how to play golf, one of these days maybe I can keep up with Hubby.

It's raining and blowing today, so I'm glad I got most of the mowing done yesterday at Mom's. The mornings have been chilly, in the upper 40s. Doesn't seem like June to me. Still, I have snap peas to pick, something to add to my salad! Yay!

Planning is a key ingredient in making healthy choices. Make sure to include fresh fruits and veggies every day. They add much needed fiber to your diet with good for you carbs.
Break up your exercise into manageable time slots in order to get at least thirty minutes of cardio three times a week and the same with strength exercises.
Make each day count and it will all add up to weight loss and a healthy body.
Have a great week. Sandy

Have had a busy day today with an appointment, shopping 2 stores and a friend stopping by unexpected. Now my granddaughter will be coming over to spend the night so she doesn't have to get up at 6:30am. to come over saturday. Here mom is participating in a yard sale tomorrow and will need to be free. Have to finish my cleaning tomorrow after hayden goes home not any time tonight. The rain we had yesterday watered well enough I don't have to do it tonight. The weeds are growing just as fast as the produce! That's on the list too. Take care, Lucinda

It's raining. And it's supposed to rain all weekend. We need the rain, but this means I won't be able to get any weeding done and the weeds will flourish with this rain. Hopefully everything else will flourish too. I suppose there's no excuse now for cleaning out a few closets this weekend. :-)

Hi all ~ I'm finally getting back to Sparks. Life got crazy when Mom fell and broke her hip at the end of February. I've been so busy taking care of her needs, and two homes, two sets of cats, etc., I have neglected my own health. My weight has crept up a few pounds, and I have new problems to overcome with my lower back and hips. Had to start physical therapy awhile back, and I'm making slow progress. I can only walk 5 minutes on the treadmill before my left hip gives out - however, I can still kneel and pull weeds. That's my exercise now, until I can get my leg straightened out.

Mom is currently getting 24 hr care at home, but we can't afford it much longer. We're making plans to bring her to our house to live. I don't know if that will work, but with her dementia, we can't let her live alone anymore like she wants. Life has changed so suddenly for all of us, it's going to take some big adjustments. My hubby has been supportive, but we'll see how it goes having Mom here. (Most of the time she doesn't know I'm her daughter anymore, but she knows I "belong" to her.)

Meanwhile, back in the garden - I picked our first sugar snap peas today! They never made it to the kitchen. DH and I just stood out there and grazed. emoticon

I will try to check in more often again, though it might be a stretch. Waving to all of you ~
emoticon

Rain this AM. and rain PM. so don't have to water today. Had sunshine during the day so it was very nice outside walking. Just picked my 4th batch of lettuce, spinach and onions so far. Will have to replant my green beans because not all of them came up. Other wise had a great day. Lucinda emoticon

Hoped to get all my annuals and containers planted today, but then it started to rain. There was no rain in the forecast, so couldn't it have waited? I did manage to get my containers planted, since I could do that in the garage. Hopefully I can get everything else planted tomorrow or Monday.
