This is the first time I've planted the strawberries as well. I'm hoping to have some this year. We'll see.

Oh yummmmm!!
Will you have to wait until next year to eat the strawberries?

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

Well let me know how the trip to Manhattan turns out.

Take care and I know you are so excited about the trip coming up and now another trip to Florida. I loved Florida and you will too. So many photo opportunities.

Take care, Jo, and have a good rest of the week.

Hugs, Sunny

No camera yet, but I was just looking this morning online and they do have it available. I could order it online but would rather hold it my hand and check it all out before I buy it!
Think I will be heading into Manhattan tomorrow and see if it is in the stores yet here!!
That may be one of the light houses we will be seeing. The trip will be to check out as many lighthouses as we can!!
I am getting excited!!
And my son just informed me over the Easter weekend that in a year or two he wants me to go back to Florida with them for a vacation!! Whoo Hooooo!!!

My kneeling bench is also sturdier than the one in the ad. Good thing too since I'm not exactly petite! I love mine. Still, have to remember not to settle into uneven ground! emoticon

Looks great, Jo. I am not going to be doing a lot of gardening this year - at least not vegetable gardening. I will plant my Sunnies but as far as vegetables only tomatoes, cucumbers and some melons. I am going to buy from my local farmer's market this year and spend a little more time fishing this year.

Did you get your Camera yet? BTW - my sis used to live in Holland Michigan where the Big Red Lighthouse is...

I asked Santa Claus this last Christmas for one of those kneeling benches!! He was very kind and brought me one.
It is wonderful when you have bad knees. Mine looks like it is heavier duty then the one in Target.

I have used it some all ready this Spring. The best thing is the handles so you can use your arms to raise yourself up to a standing postion. My knees just don't help me stand anymore if I am on the ground.
I would highly recommend it!!
I believe Santa found mine through this link....

The garden bench looks interesting and is a fairly reasonable price.

Thanks for the links on the raised beds also. DH is frugal so designed and made his own. He did a great job on it and it ROCKS!

I have one of those garden stools with wheels but I don't like it very much because it's not steady when I need to be still and it's very cumbersome when I want to move it because it has no steering. I usually move it around using my wheelbarrow.

Here is a link to a garden kneeling bench. You can sit on it, or turn it upside down & use the legs to push yourself up... There are lots on the market at different prices & some also list the weight they can handle. This is just an example... www.target.com/Garden-Kneeler-Bench/

You could always use any sort of stool or chair that's comfortbale for you. Since raised bed gardening is intended to be easier on the gardener emoticon As long as the ground around your beds isn't really uneven or steep (I rolled backwards down a small hill on our property!)
There are even little garden stools that have wheels.

Stay calm and carry on.

I've found a lot of kits in different gardening catalogs. But this one doesn't have 'corner' parts. It's made from cedar.. Well. I've attached the link. Hope it helps! www.earthsolutions.com/Container-Gar

Do you have Lowes or Home Depot in your area? I saw the raised bed kits on their website.

I have been assured the raised bed gardens are supposed to be almost weed free. We put weed barrier down.

Happy gardening.

Can you share with us where you found the kits? My husband isn't going to be able to build my raised beds this year. Health, work, and time reasons. I have RA, OA, and degenerative arthritis so I really want some badly! Thanks!

Yes, the RA makes gardening so much more difficult. Not just the part that requires the kneeling & bending, but also the weeding is hard on my hands!

The raised bed idea will eliminate the kneeling & bending. I have a small gardening bench that is lightweight & has a padded seat. I can work on the garden from a sitting position OR I can garden standing & not have to bend so far over. Hoping the weeds won't be an issue w/the raised beds!

Stay calm and carry on.

I'd love to have raised beds, too. With my RA, I just can't garden the way I used to. Let me know how the kit works out and if they would ship to Canada and what their price is.

I have some raised beds and other areas that are just regular flower beds. My two small vegetable beds are raised beds.
The raised beds are easier to take care I think. I really like them too.

Our Asparagus bed is in a raised bed and I love it. I would like the whole garden to be several raised beds.

I like the idea of the Kit - sounds easy peasy.

Good growing team.

Ha! My husband is a redneck and never buys anything new!

He found some boards in the backyard and put me together two 4x8s with a grid on top. I haven't planted anything just yet. But we got the idea out of one of the magazines I got in February. It was a magazine where Michelle Obama was introducing eating healthy and growing your own salad - which I'm all excited about doing.

As soon as the seedlings start to show, he'll put a fence around it, so our critters don't eat them. LOL

Good luck!

Who have you encouraged today?

It wasn't cheap, but not highly expensive. I'm not good at projects & the setup I got is easier for me to put together. Projects tend to just sit in my mind & not come out as a physical thing. LOL

I had considered just doing containers, but they dry out so easily ya know?

Strawberries! Yum! I was thinking about getting one of those topsy turvey things for strawberries...we'll see.

Good luck with your garden! emoticon

There are a couple of stores around here that sell the raised bed kits, but the cost was a lot higher. We used cement blocks for one garden & landscape timbers for the tomato bed. I've started scraping a small area to put in a 4' x 4' strawberry garden. We'll use landscape timbers for it as well.

I found a place that sells raised bed garden kits. The wood is cedar and it's Shaker style - so it has tongue & groove style setup. No tools required. Plus wood pins to really hold the whole thing together. It said the pins should go straight in, but if they don't a rock will work! emoticon

I'm very excited about this. I bought a 5'X5' size. The sides are 18" deep. This should be sufficient for my tomato garden this year. I plan to put basil around the edges. Deer don't care for the smell. Maybe marigolds too.

AND I'm going to put down layers of newspaper first! This will help stop weeds from coming up where I put the garden. Already saving eggshells to crush into the soil to help keep the calcium levels up. So excited!!

Stay calm and carry on.
