Well, yes, I guess it should be changed. I will try to do that when I leave here. If not, look for a new tread titled 2011 Team Chat Forum. OK.

My daisies are in full bloom and just make me smile. In the midst of them are my Mr. Lincoln Roses which are huge - the size of a tea cup saucer. I am no longer going to complain about the rain...

This is a dwarf orchard
Apples: Honeycrisp, Harlson, Fireside
Apricots: Sungold & Moongold
Blueberries: 1 ashi,2 Chippewa, 2 Polaris, 2 Bluecrop
Cherries: Meteor & North Star
need to find a hardy peach tree yet..I have to work outside today because the next week's forecast is for rain including thundershowers...So if I get the fireplace area dug out and move the compost, leaves and other amendments for the new area for the new dwarf orchard, get my peonies in, weed a couple of my gardens, etc I will be doing good. BTW I do have Spring photos to upload, I just am not good at those techy things...give me a shovel or spade however and I am there! emoticon

We have three apple trees but would also like to have a plum tree and a pear tree and maybe a peach tree.

What are you planting Dusty?

Do have a good day. Rain here again today so more delays on planting the garden.
I am beginning to wonder if we are even going to have one this year.

When I quit, I found that drinking water really helped. Also, have him brush his teeth if he talks about having a craving. There is something powerful in a "clean mouth".

Take care and keep up the good work. I pray he has success with this quit.

Thanks everyone... Dh seems a bit calmer today.
Love all of the ideas! Especially about picking some flowers to bring inside. I am really missing being out in my yard, right now I see it only from the windows.
Keep the ideas coming!!

Hi Jo, so sorry to hear about your husband. Some people try chewing on straws or twizzlers to fight the urge to smoke a cigarette, not sure if that will help your husband but it's an idea.
Take care of yourself too... I know how hard it is on the caregivers and you need to keep your strength up too. Pick a couple of flowers from your garden and put them in a vase where you can see them as a little spring pick-me-up.

Morning NEELOJ
If you can play some soothing music or have some type of water sound...a small fountain or near a pool, etc these are soothing and relieve stress, remember the stress ball and teas and comfort foods to relieve stress. God Bless you in this stressful time!
We had frost last night After I uncovered my strawberries...I hope my apricots made it! I hope to get outside to work in my gardens today...that is a stress reliever for me.

Oh Jo, I am so sorry. I hope he doesn't smoke but given the news, he probably is dealing with a lot of stress and that is what smokers do. Keep on encouraging him to not smoke and you are so right about not enabling him by buying them for him. It's hard but hang in there. You are doing the right thing.

Bless his heart literally and yours. Know that I am here for you so please let me know if you need a shoulder.

Hi Spark friends....
It has been a very rough week at my house. My DH had heat failure Monday. It started over the weekend.
We went to the doctor because his legs and feet all of a sudden swelled the four times their size.
He was admitted immediately to the hospital and we have been there all last week. We just got home today.
We learned many bad things, but he has smoked his whole life so we should have known.
He has severe COPD, and complete heart blockage on one side of his heart and 60 per cent blockage on the other side. The blockages are not repairable by stints because of the area the blocks are in. Surgery is not possible because of his COPD.

He did not smoke, of course, for this whole last week and I am now not going to help him smoke again. It is really hard for him. He has a nicotine patch but does not seem to help much.
He is mad now because I won't go buy him some cigs! Can you believe that! He has been looking for his car keys, (which I hid), and he hasn't even driven for a year because of a mild stroke a year ago!!

So life will be interesting for a while!!!
Wish me luck!! LOL

Good morning team. Hope everyone has great plans for the weekend.
I received this Spark Mail this morning and thought you would like to know about the upcoming change to the Nutrition Tracker.

MAJOR Improvement to Nutrition Tracker Launching Monday!
Message: Hello Community Team Members

I'm back to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a major feature upgrade! On Monday we will launch a HUGE improvement to the Nutrition Tracker.

Highlights include:
* Everything for tracking foods will take place on one page that automatically updates as you move from one step to the next
* There are several other improvements to the process
* Overall, this makes tracking food much faster and easier
* For a short time period, you'll be able to choose to use the current method as well

I am testing the feature right now and really love it. Josh -- our Chief Technology Officer -- has been spending most of his time for the past few months building this improvement.

I can't wait for everyone to try this out on Monday!

As always, thanks so much for your support. I appreciate it. Have a great weekend!

SparkCheers!

I am back on the West side at our home here after being back in the Tri Cities at our home all last week. I was working in the flower beds and having a blast playing in the dirt and getting some sun, as we are still having a lot of rain over here.
I took some pictures of the flower garden I put in last year and it is coming along very well almost everything came back from the hard freeze over the winter. All my shrubs and trees are fine and the grape is doing great, I even have raspberries blooming and strawberries as well. Spring is a wonderful time of year.
I hope all of you Mothers had a wonderful weekend, I got my call from my son and daughter in law yesterday afternoon. All is well with the grand kids, the oldest one is graduating this year. Will chat soon. Sandy

Got everything planted and all looks good except okra, may have to replant and also spread some more grass seeds.

The transplanted Iris sound wonderful. I love getting old plants and grow them. We have some pale yellow Iris that we brought my DH's old farmstead.
We also have Roses, Lilacs, and Spireas that we moved to our place.

Just remember not to give up on things you transplant like this. Sometimes it takes a couple of years or more for them to bloom after being moved.
Good Luck with them!!

The weather here was beautiful today. We stayed busy all weekend and finished off our afternoon at the Tulip Festival in Mt.Vernon, Wa. We took hundreds of photos and I posted a blog with just a few of them. They were so beautiful, there were five different farms and they all had their own color scheme.
I want to go back next year and take my SLR Digital camera today all we had with us was the Cannon digital point and shot.
I hope everyone has a great week ahead. Sandy

It was raining all morning and now the sun is coming out and I am loving it, I have some flowers to get into the ground and some walking to be done as this is the last day of the month for the Walk Across America Trek, I have not done nearly as well this month as I have been on the golf course more than on the walking trails.
It is still a lot of walking but also some cardio, I am loving the game I just need to improve on the distance that little white ball travels. All I can say is that I am learning as I go and having fun playing with Hubby. We have a Tee Off time scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
We are planning a trip back to the Tri Cities next week so I can tend to my flower beds and check on the irrigation system, it had just been turned on when we left to come home last week and the sprinklers were working fine but sometimes after a short time one will blow its top so I am hopeful they are intact, the maintenance team takes care of things like that but I like to double check, for myself:)
Well better run I need to finish up the laundry so I can go play in the dirt this afternoon.
Chat soon. Sandy

I hope everyone had great Easter weekend and enjoyed time with family and loved ones.
Hubby and I stayed very busy as we started the weekend on Friday evening by doing a lot of lawn maintenance to get the fertilizer and moss control down and mowed the yard and edged and trimmed everything around the yard.
On Saturday we washed the Jeep and the sports car and cleaned out the garage in the morning hours had a bite of lunch and headed to the club house. We decided to walk as we played this round we did have a pull cart so we did not have to carry our clubs. It was the most beautiful day with the sun out and at 70 degrees perfect for playing.
Sunday morning was a laid back morning to read the news paper and then we went to Cascade Mall and got some shopping done, I scored a new summer hand bag along with the matching accessories. Hubby got a few new golf shirts. I think he has one of every color now, have I ever told you he has more shoes and clothes than I do and I have a lot.
Oh well you only live once might as well enjoy your life while your here.
Yesterday afternoon I did a new three mile WATPs dvd I picked up while at home in the Tri Cities last week, it has resistance bands and a lot of new moves added to the basic walks it was fun to see a new studio back ground and the moves were good and the pace was fast.
I hope everyone stayed on their plan and got in some exercise.
Make this the week you make all the right choices for your health.
Chat soon. Sandy

Well Christ is Risen, that traditional Easter Morning greeting never goes out of style or loses it's impact, does it?

Hope everyone had a great Easter. The best part for me was sunrise on my back patio, with the birds wildly singing this morning - more than usual - as if they were rejoicing too. It reminded me of the lyrics of Sandy Patti's song - Did the grass sing? Did the earth rejoice to feel you again? The birds were certainly rejoicing this Resurrection morning.

I have heard of a problem with pines but have no personal knowledge.

Good Morning everyone and Happy Easter!

We had to have a tree cut down yesterday. Our pine tree, about 25 years old, has been dying the last couple of years. This year only about three feet at the very top was still green.
I guess it is like the disease that is killing all of the pine trees in the Rocky Mountains.
My neighbors two house down from us lost all five of her pine trees in the last three years, and I have seen several others around the neighborhood too.
The tree man said most of them in the whole area are dying.

Have you heard of this or lost a tree? Just wondering.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

I have a few plants left that I will probably put in containers, but not this weekend. I plan to relax and enjoy a good book and watch movies.

All the plants I have put in the ground are doing great and the hanging baskets look good too. We even got more snow this morning but it did not stick around, we got up to 42 for a high. Feels cold after being at our Eastern Washington home for a few days and getting use to the 65 degree days and sunshine, that was nice.
I took a few rose bushes down to the ground as the winter got the body of the plants but the roots were still trying to get new starts so I thought I would just get rid of all the dead wood and see what they do. I took out a holly bush that was very old as well.
The daffodils were in full bloom and the tulips were getting ready to put on a show. The neighbors will get to enjoy them when they open.
We came back here to this home yesterday and had a beautiful drive over Stevens Pass.

Tomorrow night is the glow ball tournament here at the golf course and the players will be playing the front nine starting about this time in the evening and we are on the 7th fairway so we will get to watch the whole tournament, how cool is that.
It should be fun maybe we will get a few glow balls for our ever growing golf ball collection at last count we had 31 in the basket. I told Hubby we could go Easter Ball hunting on Easter morning instead of Easter egg hunting:)
We would have entered the tournament but I have a hard enough time hitting the ball in the daytime I can only imagine how it would be to try to play in the dark.
Well shower time, will chat soon. Sandy

I guess you just have to be happy your plants survived! They will get more blooms I am sure.
It is still early for planting tomatoes here in Kansas.

I spent three hours out raking my front yard and hope to plant some grass tomorrow. But I may be so stiff and sore that I can't manage to move!! LOL

I had planted my tomato plants in the back yard and they were doing pretty good. Then, last Friday (early AM) we had a hail storm. It knocked almost every bloom off of the plants. The wind was blowing about 50 MPH all day long but the plants are still standing proud and straight. I hope they will still do okay.

Today is the reward for all of your yesterdays' choices.

We had an awesome Palm Sunday. We had our Easter Cantata at church which really lifted my spirits. It was "No Greater Love" and the choir did a great job.

Afternoon, I went to visit my Father and then rest last night with an early bed time. I try to go to be early but I also get up early. I love mornings when all is quiet and the day is just coming alive.

Speaking of coming alive - Spring blooms are awesome this year.

We also have Asparagus and picked enough to roast in the oven this evening. Yummo!

Take care and have a GREAT week.

Seems things are doing really great around my area this Spring!
All of the flowering trees and shrubs have been beautiful, just covered with blooms!!
And then this morning I went out to cut some asparagus for lunch today. I couldn't believe how much had grown! I got a very large bunch, enough for at least four servings, and I only have six plants!! I had cut it once all ready! Guess I had better start freezing some of it!

Reminds me of the time I stepped out my front door and house across the street had about a dozen vultures all lined up on the roof looking at me. I turned around and went right back in the house. emoticon

A Funny Story.....
I was taking a walk this morning at the edge of town. My knees were hurting and being of a "over sixty" age, I was walking pretty slow but enjoying the day.
Then I see a shadow of a large bird on the ground. I look up and there are FIVE VULTURES circling over my head!!
Now really fellows, I know I am moving much slower these days but I AM NOT DEAD YET!!!!
LOL LOL
I couldn't believe it when I saw that many and they were close. I was finally able to snap this photo of four of them as they were flying farther away and I had stopped laughing!!

I will look for the photos, Jo. I love lilacs. For some reason, our lilac bush did not make it through this past winter. DH dug it up yesterday. Also, I lost half of my flowering plum.

I spent most of the day yesterday at the garden centers picking up seeds/plants for our gardens. Today, DH and I are going to plant the kitchen/salad garden so hope to have fresh greens soon.

Hugs to all,
Hope you have fun playing in the dirt today.

Our lilacs are starting to open. Last night sitting on the front porch was the first time we could smell them. The blooms are really thick and covering the shrubs this year. Most we have had in several years! They are the old fashion kind and we have a strip of them around 50 foot long!!

We dug them up from a hugh old bush on DH's old farm about 25 years ago and then three years ago I went through the whole strip and cut them back some and got out all of the old dead branches, etc. It thinned them out quite a bit but they seem to like their new look! LOL
I will post some pictures soon......

I live in Texas and the weather is already getting pretty warm. I love working in the garden but don't have much skill/luck with growing vegetables.

What types of veggies are the easiest to grow for a novice? I have the worst luck with bell peppers and tomatoes. They start out fine but then they don't grow or the buds just fall off or the veggies just quit growing. (I told you I am a novice).

I would love to hear from any of you.

Good Morning! The rain came, the wind blew and the grass is turning green...all the snow is gone! There is a soft haze on the forsythia bushes, the crocuses are up and the daffodils are making their way to the surface. The maple trees and rhododendrons have buds that get fatter every day...soon Spring will burst forth in all its glory...perhaps even on Easter!

Hi Everyone :)

I'm new to the team. My family has always been big gardeners, but I'm still the "newbie" with just a small garden and very basic knowledge on how to tend to one. But I would love to learn all that I can :) My favorite flowers are Lilies especially Oriental Lilies. With all this nice weather I can't wait to get back to my garden to weed (currently stuck in an apartment that's far away). I just bought a bonsai tree and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on care. I've looked up some information on the internet, but it would be nice to talk to some one who I can ask questions from. I believe mine is a juniper tree, but someday I'd like to have a wisteria. Guess that was a long intro, lol. Have a good one everybody!

It's lookin' like my flower beds are gonna be my only form of exercise for next couple of weeks! I guess it's Mother Nature's way of getting me fit! They are over run with weeds! My idea when we bought this house was to have the whole yard covered in flower beds! Well, I have big beds all the way around my house! I'm glad I stopped there! I can't keep up! I need a garden buddy!!! I hate to use chemicals as a quick cure, but this spring, I may not have a choice!!!

Ok, garden friends, that time of the year is here again. Yesterday, morning I finished one garden project. Then went out to an old home stead and dug up some bulbs. Also got some great pictures of some wild turkeys up in the woods. Then later in the afternoon I went for a wonderful hike.
But remember I told you it was that time of year again...........ticks, lots and lots of ticks... I pulled them off my clothes and body all day long. I will be off to buy some deet and permethrin when church is over.
Last count on my ticks, including the one I woke up and found @ 4:00am this morning........
Any guesses......The closest guess wins a trophy on Tuesday.....

Looks like today will be the end of the nicer days until next Sunday. :( Boy am I getting sick of rain. So I cleaned out the second raised bed today and turned the soil in both beds. It's still making clods some, but was a little dryer today...at least until tomorrow. phhhhtttt.

I have been very successful with my butterfly garden and I want to have some plants that will attract hummingbirds. I looked at a couple of web sites and still couldn't figure out the best for Florida. Can someone suggest some plants that will live in dry sandy soil and will attract humming birds??

Wow, Sandy - you are doing GREAT. I can't wait to see the photos.
We have got our salad garden, herb garden (replanting this year to a new spot), and our vegetable garden all ready to plant. We finally had some warmer temps the past couple of days so the soil should be warm enough to plant soon.

I changed the Team Photo which is a photo of my Daisy Garden which should be in full bloom soon.

Take care-Let's Get Growing.

Good afternoon everyone. We have a lot o new members who just joined, I would like to welcome all of you to the team. Please feel free to chat and to introduce yourself to the team. We are all gardeners of one kind or another.

Today I got a lot accomplished, I mowed the yard for the first time this year and trimmed and raked and bagged. I also put in some new plants fourteen today. I have now planted seventy two new flowers through out the landscape this spring.
The yard is looking like spring for sure. I have a planter I am going to use for herbs and five hanging baskets yet to plant and a welcome planter for the front entry and two more square planters for the back patio.
So my planting is not done but the ones for the beds are finished except for the strawberries I still need to find a home for. Thinking of planting them in the same bed as the raspberries as the ground is very fertile in that area of the bed.
I hope everyone is getting their hands dirty. I love playing in the dirt, just like a kid only not making mud pies.
Have a great weekend everyone. Sandy

I got my Worm Factory today (UPS) and got it all set up. I have tons of worms. I've been keeping them for almost two years. It was really a pain to harvest the castings and I think the new bin will help with that. I just have to wait a bit and I'll have plenty of organic fertilizer and readily available!

Interesting use for coffee grounds. I took almost all my roses out at home but I have tons of rhodies here I could use all the help I can get with this type of landscape. I got in the shower and got out to a white ground then thirty minutes later the sun came out and of course I got on my working clothes and out the door I went with shovel in hand. I got 31 plants in the ground today and I think I have all the ones planted in the landscape now I have the hanging baskets and planters to put together.
Time for Hubby to get home so I had better get cooking. Chat soon. Sandy

I use the coffee grounds in my compost and around the roses & rhodies, but haven't tried leftover coffee. I'll have to try it on one of my violets and see if there's a difference. :)

Yesterday was a nice day, partly sunny and dry enough to mow. I managed to get both mowers and the lawn tractor started - amazing after a long winter's storage!

Today, we're back to rain. Looks like we'll have lots of it for the next three or four days. Phooey - just when I had a good start on my new herb garden. I need to haul dirt, but it'll be mud until things dry out again.

It's been gloomy and cold here all week, but no rain. The sun is out today for now, I think I'll take tomorrow afternoon off to work on the lawn, suppose to be 78 degrees.

It has rained since yesterday morning and no signs of letting up all the rivers are at flood stage or over so I am glad we live up high on the hill. Just have to keep an eye on the water hazard across the way but I don't think we will get any run off.
Our yard is saturated and I know exactly where I am going to put the new path I am going to install right where the water stands :)
I got two hours of exercise in today 45 minutes of weights up to 5 and 8 pounds now and a 60 minute Richard Simmons cardio workout.
I have a pot of minestrone soup on the stove and an apple crisp in the oven. Smells wonderful. Chat soon. Sandy

I managed to get 27 plants in the flower beds today and still have more to plant. It did not rain so I gook advantage of the weather and the yard is starting to come to life. The rhododendrons are popping open and they are adding color too. My tulips have started to bud as well. I am so glad to see the 50 degree mark hit for a few days in a row.
Hope everyone had a great day. Sandy

I went to the nursery and I came home with the back end of the Jeep loaded with all kinds of plants. So my cardio is coming here in a few days I will have a freshly landscaped yard :-)
Hope everyone else is staying active as well. Sandy

Trying to get out of completely replanting a new lawn, I'm not sure I'm ready for that amount of work.
