Good morning everyone I hoped you all had a wonderful Christmas day. As some of you know I am also team leader of Richard Simmons Sparks Team.
Every morning I get a letter from him to post on the team page. Today's letter was very good and so I thought I would share it with you.

STUFFED?

Saturday, 26 December 2009

So how was your Christmas dinner? Who were you sitting next to at the dinner table? And how was the conversation? Did anyone tell any good jokes? Who said grace before the meal? Well, okay...enough of those cute little questions. Let's get to the big ones...

Did you eat sensibly yesterday or do you feel stuffed today? How many pieces of bread did you have? Did you have seconds or even thirds of some of the dishes? Did you have seconds or thirds of the stuffing? Was there gravy on the table? And which dishes did you put gravy on? The turkey? The potatoes? Everything on your plate? Did you take a roll and actually dip it into the gravy before eating it? Did you serve that string bean dish with the fried onions, topped with a can of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup?

And how many desserts were there to entice you? Did someone make homemade cookies, cakes, pies or fudge? And tell me, did you have just one desert or...a plate full of the sweet stuff, huh? If your answers to some of these questions are yes, then I know that you are probably...stuffed! Yep, it means you consumed w-a-a-a-y too many calories yesterday during that Christmas meal!

It means you consumed too much fat and too many starches. And all of that food you ate yesterday is still sitting in your body today! Hey, if you can't get your shoe on, it's probably because there's some stuffing in your big toe that's getting in the way! Now, if you're one of those people stuffed from yesterday's Christmas meal, tell me, what are you going to do about it?

Well, I'll tell you what you can do. You can work out today! Oh how I wish you were in town because I'm teaching class at Slimmons this morning. And many of my students coming to class today will have to work extra hard because they didn't follow their FoodMovers like they should have on Christmas Day. You may need to join them by sweating off some of those calories you loaded into your body yesterday. Hey, there're no ifs ands or buts about it!

And, let me tell you, this isn't a day for just toning, either. Its a day for your treadmill, your elliptical or a good cardio workout DVD. You should try to work out for a full hour today, too. And just so you know, if tonight's dinner is a replay of what you ate yesterday, well, get ready for "stuffed"...the sequel!

You may as well admit it. Being stuffed really feels lousy, doesn't it? But you can change that lousy feeling if you'll just get in a full hour of working out on this Saturday after Christmas.

So, Merry Day After Christmas to you all! I hope you got some nice presents but the real present no one else can give you but you is...your good health!

Love,
RICHARD

Good health to you all. Sandy

Merry Christmas everyone!

All is not calm or quiet here. Shiloh, the new (formerly wild) kitty and Simon had an impromptu skirmish in the living room this morning. I did have Simon shut in my office, but he's learned how to work the door handle and let himself out. Sigh. Anyway, fur flew but no blood was shed. They're both sleeping it off, now. Willow is ignoring the "nasty boy cats" and sleeping peacefully on our bed. :)

Hope you all have a quiet and blessed Christmas!

After a very long day, our Soldier Boy finally arrived home. His flight out of Chicago yesterday morning was cancelled and he was not able to get on another flight until around 4. Our Daughter in Law who had driven to St. Louis to meet his plane came on home and DH drove down there to pick him up. But - he is home, the tree is decorated, and we are waiting on Santa. emoticon God is Good! Now all we need is some of Sandy's cookies for the Santa Plate. Hehe

Take care and do have a Blessed day.

I am baking cookies and making sugar free goodies for Hubby and Son and the neighbor next door as he is diabetic too. I am baking cookies for my grand children here in town and for the little children who live across the street. The house smells of ginger bread cookies right now, I baked peanut butter, oatmeal and chocolate chip earlier this morning. I made some fudge, chocolate covered pretzels and almond bark earlier, I have been in the kitchen most of the day. I still have a couple of different cookies to bake tomorrow.
I hope everyone is ready for Christmas, I know that Hubby has had this sheepish look on his face since last week when he went shopping. I will have to share what Santa brought after Christmas.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Holiday Season. Sandy

Merry Christmas to all of my Bloomin' Friends!!

I may not be back on for a couple of days.
Hope all of you will also be busy visiting with family and friends!!

That's a great gift idea! Friends of ours gave us sunflower seeds named for their beloved dog who died the summer they grew those sunflowers. And the seed packet showed a huge sunflower with the doggie sitting next to it! I want to do something like that next year!

I had some very prolific golden marigolds this last summer and fall. So I started saving seeds from them. I also took a picture.
So I made a seed packet with the photo I took and filled it up with seeds I saved.
I made up 15 of these and am giving them to all of my family and close neighbors!
A fun and very "cheap" gift!! LOL

Busy myself today getting last minute things done as our Soldier Boy gets home tomorrow. Yea. I am ready and very tired but can not wait.

We will go to Church Christmas Eve for a Candlelight service and then to my Daughter in Law's Mother's house for dinner. Christmas we are having brunch at Lula Belle's (our favorite place in Hannibal) and hopefully a movie in the afternoon. We'd like to see Avatar. Saturday is our family gathering at my Fathers in Hannibal and Sunday, we have Christmas Photos.

I was thinking how nice it would be to live closer so we could visit each other. I am, however, content to have you for a friend and look forward to seeing your posts.

Take care and have a lovely Christmas.

Sunny

Good afternoon everyone. I have been busy playing Merry Maid today so the house will be ready for Santa to come. I am cleaning the oven (electric-just turn it on the clean cycle) so it will be ready to bake the cookies tomorrow.

Hubby will be off starting Wednesday through next Sunday. I have to say it is easier to stay away from food when he works, as he tends to munch on crunchy things that make me hungry, not because I want what he is eating just the noise of crunchy food, he likes corn tortilla chips and mango salsa and I hate both.
So I will just have to have some air popped corn when he is munching on other things.

We are going to my Sons house on Christmas Eve to have Christmas dinner with them and then Hubby and I plan to have a nice quiet Christmas morning with the boys.

I hope each of you are blessed this Holiday Season.
Sandy

I will be so glad to see spring again, I was just looking through some pictures I took last spring.
I will not be able to garden as much as I want to this year as I will be traveling between here and Seattle starting in the spring through the fall of the year:(
I will still have all of my perennials and will do some veggie gardening, but nothing that will take a lot of tending. Going t
o be a different kind of year for me in 2010.
I will be in a condo or an apartment in Seattle so will take some pots so I can have herbs at least in the kitchen window.
Is everyone ready for the Jolly Fat Elf to visit? I am so ready, there is this one package that is driving me insane, as I cannot figure out what it is. I will have to let you know after I get to open it on Christmas.
I am going to bake cookies for the grand children and the children that live across the street on Tuesday. I am going to be very good and not sample any this year, I will just breath deep and inhale the flavor.

Wishing everyone
emoticon MERRY CHRISTMAS emoticon

Hey Sandy

No, I don't like slugs at all. They're really my only garden pest, so I'm happy when the starlings, crows and jays go slug-hunting. They're so bad around this area, Mom carries a salt shaker in her jacket pocket whenever she goes outside. emoticon

Today was icy and cold, it is suppose to melt before morning but it is going to have to get above 29 to do that? Hubby took over an hour to get home tonight and only has to drive 17 miles. He got a little sideways a couple of times and he was only going 30 MPH. Ice is scary stuff to drive on and in the dark it makes it worse. Stay safe everyone.
Kat I take it you don't like slugs:) Chat soon. Sandy

It's 52 and pouring rain tonight, just like the past 36 hours. The ground is still frozen, so some areas are getting a little flooding.

The slug patrol was out in force today - huge flocks of starlings, picking up frozen or drowned slugs from the lawn. Get 'em, guys!

You all don't have to be jealous now--it's about 29 degrees out now (high was 40s today) and we're expecting snow later in the week! One thing about Tennessee weather: it's never boring!

It was over 60 degrees here today and sunny so I spent as much time as I could outside! I picked up lots of sticks that came down during the last storm and carried them to the bonfire pile, watered plants in the greenhouse, weeded irises, and spoiled the chickens. What a beautiful day! Tomorrow night it's supposed to be back down to 24. Yikes!

Good Monday! What's everyone up to? Now that we're a balmy 39 (instead of 8), I might get out to the garden and clean up some of the plant sludge leftover from the deep freeze. Also will check the greenhouse to see who's still alive.

Have a good one.

Thanks NeelOj. I've been racking my brain for something.

For his birthday we gave him a RoadID. He LOVED it so I'm not sure I can top that. I've attached a link about RoadID in case you're curious.

Thanks for the suggestions - I just get stuck for ideas sometimes!

How about something homemade.
Cookies, jams, frozen meals easy to warm up.
Or something crafted if you do that.

I don't know if he lives near or not,
Try a coupon for a special evening on you. Or weekend. Or a future project to do together.
If he lives far away, plan a visit as a gift.

I completely forgot about my Yaktrax! I will bring those with me while I shop today (it's after midnight so .. technically it's today LOL). They're like tire chains for your feet. They give me great traction on ice & snow - they can even be used by runners. They just slip on & off sort of like an overshoe, only easier as they're just a frame & not a whole boot or covering.

I've decided to buy a couple lbs of wildflower seed from the Vermont Wildflower Co online. You can buy seeds by the ounce, packet or even by the pound. I will make her a beautiful wildflower garden that she can enjoy year after year.

My dad said today that the birdbath heater is broken & they need a new one. He loves the birds & has multiple feeders & suet hangers all over around the house. So I finally have an idea for my dad for Christmas! Yaay!

All that remains is my brother really. He's impossible to shop for, I just haven't got a clue, yet. He has EVERYTHING & makes a lot of money so -sheesh, what can I give him!?

I'm open to suggestions!

Stay calm and carry on.

Yes, do be careful on the ice, or do not go at all on it, like you said!
I dislocated a knee once slipping on ice. Not fun!!
So I tiptoe on it if I have to walk on it.
I probably look pretty ridiculous too!! haha

Do be careful. I would not get out either if it is icy. I hate ice. The errands can wait until it is melted.

We have our Church Christmas Cantata this evening so am looking forward to that. We will have dinner with friends prior to the Cantata.

Have a Super Saturday. Hugs, Sunny

We've been having weird weather. It's not very cold during the day - 40s, but at night it's around 12. Weird. We had several inches of snow & then a few days later a bunch of sleet, then the temps came up & it just rained.
Sunday they're forecasting ice. I really HATE ice. I don't mind snow or cold, but the ice thing - emoticon

Original plan was to decorate our tree tomorrow & do errands on Sunday. May have to reconsider. I have no interest in running here & there in icy conditions. My replaced knee is so much better & I've made a lot of progress - no fun to end up messing it up - or worse, messing up the other one! I've never learned the skill of walking on ice. I see people who never slip or lose their balance. That's not me - I look ridiculous! LOL!

Have a great weekend!

I have been enjoying Winter today!
Woke up to four inches on snow on the ground.
It has been snowing off an on all day too. My neighbor and I decided it would be good exercise to shovel off our driveways. So we did hers and then did mine.
Much more fun doing it together!!
There is now 2 more inches on the ground where we shoveled and is snowing hard.
So more great exercise tomorrow!!!! LOL

My kitchen is warm and cozy, I have been making peanut butter cookies (sugar free) and I made some sugar free chocolate covered pretzels today. So my house is smelling a lot like Christmas to go with all the decorations I have out, I am ready for Jolly Old St. Nick to come emoticon trees all decorated and the smell of emoticon cookies in the air. I hope everyone else is ready for the Holidays.
Stay warm and cozy. Sandy

I just commented on that plant in your photos - the one with red spikes. Just wondering what it is. I like it.

It is raining here in Northeast Missouri too. I just hope it does not turn to freezing rain. I hate that.

I have been baking all afternoon - muffins for my Father and some Cranberry Bread to take to work on Thursday.

I am off - have some de-cluttering to do myself.

We woke up to 1 degree this morning. I am so glad I do not have to run any errands for the next couple of days. I am working on wrapping gifts to be mailed to family members. A good thing to keep my hands busy.
I hope everyone stays warm, and dress appropriately for the temperatures. Sandy

Good morning team. So we only have a few weeks left in the year, get busy and shed those old habits and see what a difference it makes.
Challenge yourself to stay on track and to eat healthy all through the Holidays.
Hey it is just another day and we all should treat each day the same and not throw in the towel just because there are extra treats around the house.
In my house as if there is anything here it is fruit and sugar free.
Hubby never liked sweets until he became diabetic now he thinks he has to have something sweet everyday. Before he would only eat sweets on a birthday or a special occasion. Mind over matter I say.
Have a great week and if you do have a few extra sweets, then do a little extra exercise to burn off the calories.
Keep in mind that the Holidays come every year and you will have many more years to enjoy the Holidays if you eat healthy all through the year. Sandy

I have sage, chives, lavender and various thymes that survive winter, and sometimes the rosemary does if it's not too wet.

My lavender is the hardiest plant I have but it to has gone away for the season only to return in early spring.
I don't know of any herb that will grow in freezing temperatures.
That is why I love spring so much to see everything come back to life.
You could force some bulbs indoors in pots this winter if you want something to grow.

Thanks for the suggestion. I volunteer out at the local botanical gardens and take care of the herbs.
Do you have any suggestion for winter hardy herbs that I could plant that will withstand the freeze. I have rosemary but I need something to replace the basil that has died.

We are just frozen here. The temps never got above freezing today. Forecast for the rest of the week cold and colder through the weekend with snow on Saturday and Sunday.
We I sure have not seen anything green here in the garden anyway for a long time. The grass is still green as I put a good fall fertilizer on it back in September. Boy that seems a long time ago.
Hope you all have scarfs, hats and mittens ready, I have mine ready to go.
Have a great Friday everyone. Sandy

We hit 25 degrees this morning, our first hard frost. Think I lost both mums, but the pansies and violas shook it off. The lettuce, chard, and spinach look alright too. I'm amazed.

I had thought of planting some lettuce and spinach for a fall crop but just had too much going on to tend to it. Yesterday before we left for St. Louis, DH brought some "greens" in to show me. Seems we had a little bit of volunteer lettuce coming up in the garden. Not enough for a salad but now wish I would have done a fall planting.

I am marking 12/31 on my calendar for the Blue Moon. Hope it's a clear night as I would love to see it. Speaking of Moons, that full moon was totally amazing last night.

Hugs, Sunny

Wow, it got quiet here after the holiday!

Happy December 1! We're on the homestretch for the year.

Hey, we have a blue moon this month, on New Year's Eve! How cool is that?? emoticon

Tonight, we might get our first killing frost - the air is bitterly cold and the sky is crystal clear. I've pulled my potted plants back against the house wall under the deck roof, but my lettuce and spinach beds might bite the big one. Hope our little microclimate protects them, but not counting on it.

Hope y'all are well!

Happy Belated Birthday, Carolyn. How wonderful to have received a greenhouse. I live in the North and would love to have one.

I don't know much about keeping a greenhouse but am sure someone here does.

Take care, have a Blessed Day, and again, Happy Birthday.

Congratulations--hope you enjoy it! Depending on what it's made of (hard plastic or softer plastic) and your climate, you'll want to move it out of the weather when you're not using it. As far as when you are using it, just make sure it's vented on hot sunny days or you'll fry your plants! Good luck!

Happy Tuesday everyone, hope your staying on track.

I did have a good day of shopping up to the trip home that is when I met the nice officer who gave me the ticket. Well my luck had to end some time it had been thirty years since I got one, then they were pink this one is green. Those are the things your remember about tickets the designer colors they come in. I found some awesome Christmas decorations today. So my mood has not changed any, probably won't as I love the Holidays to much to let a little ( $154.00) ticket spoil my fun.

I hope everyone has a good rest and keep this in mind for Thanksgiving, use small plates and I use small forks and spoons they don't hold as much and the slower you eat the less it takes to fill your tummy. Chat later. Sandy

Great idea about the cactus. I have never heard of that but I do give my Orchids 3 ice cubes every Monday and I saw new shoots yesterday on one plant.

Thanks for the comments on the cactus. I had heard that it can be very particular about many things ... water for example. This one has almost tripled in size since we received it. The photos don't do it justice. I'm afraid I didn't get the best pics.

Speaking of cacti & water - I read in Reader's Digest once a story about a woman who had very healthy cacti in her NYC apartment. A friend asked her how she managed to get them to look so wonderful & even to bloom on occassion. The woman told her friend that each day she went on the internet & checked the weather in Arizona & if it had rained there she watered her cactus.

I've had no success w/orchids.

Stay calm and carry on.

Sandy - you will always be "our" winner - that is for sure.

Loved the Cactus. Mine is blooming too - a whopping 3 blooms. I need to replant it.

Jo - I had not heard that it should be left in the same room. Great information.

I was excited as my Orchid is putting out new shoots. The two new orchids are not doing that well. I transplanted them so hope that helps.

Have a GREAT Saturday.

Good evening everyone, hope you had a good day.

That is a beautiful plant, I will have to see if there are any around here. I did see some really nice centerpieces today when I was out and about.

Well I did not win the grand prize with my recipe entry. I did however get my code to use at the Sparks Store. I used the gift certificate today.
I ordered a black WooHoo!! T-shirt in a size medium.
I also ordered a desk calendar it has the daily Spark quote on each date.
I thought that would last all year and I can remember how excited I was when I won the prize.

I went shopping today for my Sons birthday, he will be thirty on the 5th of December. I got him a Canon Digital Camera and some dress clothes and some everyday what I call making a statement clothes.
I also got him a couple of gift cards to Kohl's and Penneys for anything else he would want.
Enjoy your weekend. Sandy

Bren, we love you and want you to say with us on the team after all you started the team and it is only right you stay. You are our leader!!!

I found a new use for club soda today.
I use club soda in many ways. Today I used it to add some bubbles to the water for fresh cut flowers. This adds oxygen to the water and makes the fresh flowers last longer.

How do you use club soda?

HEY y'all.... I miss you! HOW Does your FALL garden Grow?

I don't know what to do about being the leader of this team? I have found myself with a conflicting schedule. IF you follow my webpage at : www.BGgarden.com
you know that I have been a contributor to some major Garden Shows. ISn't that AMAZING???? Little ol' me.. the Garden MOM! All I did was start sharing my garden images on a FREE blog. ANYWAYS... many snap shots later I'm inspiring more people to get involved with Gardening in their neck of the woods. COULD THERE BE any other way to stay healthY???

SO - if you don't mind I pop in as time allows I would love to stay your team leader.

PLEASE stop by my page here at Sparkpeople and leave me comments on if I should stay or go?!

THANK YOU.... for taking the time!

IT all begins with YOU..... Plant the seeds and get growing healthy!

Can't find me - I am always in the garden:

We have sunshine for the moment. Three more storms are due in the next three days - they're just lined up off the coast, neatly spaced to mess up the rest of my week. Ah well.

The last storm tore stems off my potted mum on the deck! Very strange. My hardy fuchsias are protected and still blooming, wondering what all the fuss is about.

The birds are very hungry this morning, so I'd better go put out another suet cake and top off the seed feeders.

Have a good one ~

Still very cold and rainy here in Missouri. Weather man says no sun until Saturday.

Train, that cracked me up about the drunk on the horse. Guess he thought it would be better than getting behind the wheel of a car.

Take care and have a GREAT day, Team.

Cooler here today also. I'm very curious about what sort of a winter we'll have this year.

Gotta get to the gym tomorrow. I had too many stupid errands to run today & just didn't build in time for the gym-hate it when I do that! I also need to repot a few plants & water the things that have come inside. Our Christmas cactus is in full bloom & it is BEAUTIFUL! I really need to get a few snaps to share.

When I lived in/near Wash DC, I was very aware of crime & the need for good lighting to help keep me safe. Out here I don't worry about thieves. Everyone out here has a gun, nearby neighbors include county sheriff & VA State policemen. Everyone knows each other. On a weekend I frequently see the same people from one errand location to another. The local newspaper still prints a police blotter-a few months ago someone was arrested for riding their horse while drunk (no I'm not makin that up). Ahh, it's a trade-off, safer here, but long drive to get milk. We lose our power a lot - high winds, ice, etc. Easy to get snowed or iced in & nowhere to go ... Better like who you live with!

Stay calm and carry on.

Today was breezy and cooler, high around 48. Cloudy all day and no rain yet anyway. Just plain old gloomy, I guess we had better get used to this type of weather as Winter is right around the corner.

Today I did my workouts and then built some wood shelves for my work shed. I am going to use totes on those to keep everything organized. I will be sorting through things this week so Hubby can help me put things out there over the weekend.
I sure hope everyone has been staying busy and be sure to focus on your long term goals.
Have a great evening. Sandy

Those lights also allow potential thieves to see better! I'm sorry to miss the Leonids--rainy weather. But we still have the Geminids to hope for!

Still no killing frost here. Mind you, I'm not complaining!

The Leonid meteor shower can be seen throughout the Northen hemisphere provided your sky is clear & you don't have a lot of light pollution.

I live in a very dark area with few lights. A few neighbores are apparently terrified of the dark because they have giant spotlights on their homes that they run all night.

Fortunately I have an area in my back yard where I can be away from those lights. I never have understood what they're using those lights for ... to give the bears a better view of the pickings in their garbage cans? LOL!

We are getting hit with wind tonight and through tomorrow and it is suppose to rain along with that. I think after that we are to get a cold front. Looks like old man winter is getting ready to knock on our doors.
I was watching the news and I was wishing we had clear skies so we could view the meteor shower.
Hope everyone has a good evening. Sandy

Tonight - or perhaps very early tomorrow morning depending on how you look at things I will be voluntarily going outside into the 30ish degree weather at about 3:30 or 4AM to watch a meteor shower.

The Leonid shower (thus named because the meteors originate near the constellation of Leo) this year is anticipated to be really fantastic with around 20-30 meteors an hour. People in Asia will likely see TWO HUNDRED/hour! Whooo hooo!

One year I watched this shower w/my dad. One meteor was so bright you could clearly see the grass & gravel on the ground!

If you are lucky enough to be able to get out & view this event I highly recommend it! Enjoy emoticon

Trainof4 - we have a lot of good wineries around here. Willamette Valley Vinyards is probably the best known, especially for its Pinot Noir. Use to be the hills around here sported Christmas Trees for export - now it's wine country.

We're getting the first of two windstorms today. The main thrust is much farther north in Seattle and Whidbey Island, but what we've had so far is impressive. I need to go check the anchors on my greenhouse to make sure it doesn't end up in Oz.

I like the new team forum photo, the combination of veggies in flower shapes is clever and makes an attractive (and healthy and edible!) arrangement. Thanks for freshening it up Sandy.
Here in the Chicago area I still have a couple of flowers still hanging on after the cold and frost - sweet william, viola, and pansy - but I think they will soon be gone after we get the first snow.

Yes Train, Mother Nature will always thrill us if we let her!

I'm going to go look at my flowers every day until we do get a killing frost and they're gone. Maybe I'll eat a few nasturtium flowers while I'm out there!
