I have been on a few in our city. They are alot of fun. Some gardens you wonder why they are on the tour as they don't seem to be anything special, and others are very elaborate.

For me, it is alot of fun as you get a bunch of girls together to look at gardens and hit yard sales on the way. Good time away from the kids

I have never hosted one before and I guess I am just afraid of being one of the gardens that people wonder why I am on it. I guess just notify the garden commitee and see what they say. Maybe if not this time, they would have some suggestions on what I can do to get there.

Never heard of them - sounds like fun though! I'm gathering this is an event and not like a tour anytime deal? We have a tour of homes weekend in the area - mostly for people who have spend mega bucks on their home - for people to go see homes but they are not for sale. The garden tour sounds like it's like that.

I have had a few groups meet out at my place in the past few years. The biggest problem is
1.) parking - no matter how many bails of hay or ORANGE CONEs you put up there is always someone who will drive out of bounds.

2.) RESTROOM - I do not let people use my bathroom and there is ALWAYS someone who will ask. I don't want just anyone walking into my home.... that can be awkward when you do not know these people.

PERSONALLY - I would only have groups that I am a member of or people that I know.

Enjoy your garden time - feel free to email me any questions.

I have never participated in a garden club or group but I have gone on several garden tours.
I too enjoy them because gardeners are always so friendly!! Really!!!

Also it is a great way to see what will grow in your area, how big a plant really grows, (many times it is different then advertised), and colors, as well as great ideas for yards, containers, etc......

Fun and very helpful!!!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

I belong to the Garden Conservancy. They have open garden tours of private gardens all over the country. They charge $5 per garden. Anyone can go. It's great to visit and speak with just regular people who have really nice gardens. The web site is www.gardenconservancy.org
Check ou the "Open Days Program."

I've been on them and I love them. It's a chance for me to talk to real gardeners about what they've done and to find out what certain plants are that I've seen but didn't know what they were.

When you do the tour, you never go into anyone's house; it's all outdoors and the owner is available for any questions that might be asked.

The ones I've been on have been very respectful of the owner's property. You might want to check with your local one to see what the requirements are. After all it doesn't mean you have to sign up.

Good luck.

Funny you posted this - 10 minutes ago I read about a garden tour scheduled for next Sunday in my town! I decided to try to check out the houses listed - mine's not in nearly good enough shape to participate. I'll let you know how it seems to work for them!

Has anyone here participated in a community garden tour? I have had many strangers during a yard sale say I should be in my city one, but I am unsure.

Did anyone have any good/bad experiences? Would you do it again? Do you have any suggestions?
