Francie, it is so good to hear from you. I wish it could be much better news. I didn't know that Bill wasn't able to write on his FB. I am keeping you both in my prayers daily.

I got very good news today. I was released from doing physical therapy. I got to 2 degrees on straightening my knee and my bend was 125 degrees. I was so happy to be able to get to this milestone. Of course my therapy is far from over. I will still be exercising daily, riding my bike and working in the pool to regain full use of my knee again. Just 10 more days till I go to Florida.

We have lots of shopping we plan on doing, we are going on a 3 hr excursion to Dolphin Island, seeing sea life up close, being able to touch and hold some of it, exploring the island, you can snorkel and swim, then we will be taking the boat out to view dolphins. The resort we are staying in has pools, hot tubs, small water slides & lazy river. They have a Polynesian show each night for guest and the boardwalk is right next to the resort. We have an ocean view room. I am so excited. My Mom and 3 of my sisters are going. Since my Dad passed away in 2007 my sisters & I vowed to do this trip every year to enjoy every moment with our Mom. We will start planning next years trip right after this one so it gives us something to look forward to and save money for. I wouldn't miss this for the world.

Just thought I'd drop by. Tricia, the note you saw that was written "by Bill" were his words but I typed. I manage his FB page. he doesn't use a computer. His page was set up mainly to promote his music.

He has to go at 7;30 am in morning to see if they can re-situate drain tube better. It will be as outpatient. GI specialist looked at all scans and said is a total blockage above and below duct so no stent can be done at this time. If chemo can shrink might be a possibility. He has an appt. with radiologist DR. Lynch on Monday at 12:30 at the Ben E Owens Cancer Center at St. B. They're starting the ball rolling. He has lost 25+ lbs since May and strong chemo hasn't even started. He doesn't even look like himself and certainly not like he did a month ago. Wish it was me rather than him. He has no appetite even with the nausea meds. Smelling food being cooked turns him off even. He is on 20mgs Oxycontin morning and night with oxycodone every 4 hours in between. Oncologist Dr. Monte has increased the oxycontin to 30mgs. morning and night but had to be ordered so won't be here til next Wed. Most of his pain is in back. Some in right side. I so dread all this for him. My heart is breaking. emoticon

Francie has written a new blog updating on Bill. Continue prayers for all her requests.

Tricia, what will you be doing in Panama City? I bet a lot of 'shopping'! emoticon and eating a lot of sea food.

Why don't you drop a line to Cephes2,, you will be amazed at who he is! He has been a mystery to me for a long time.

I got an excellent report from my surgeon. He was very pleased with my progress, my bending is 122 degrees and my straightening is still at 3 degrees. He approves of my swimming and using the exercise bike. Released me for driving but won't be doing that soon due to medication. But I go back to see him in 6 weeks.

I leave in 11 days to Panama City Beach with my Mom & sisters. I am so excited about this trip. It has been a rough year with weather, illnesses and my surgery so am looking forward to 4 days in the sun and sand and relaxing with my sisters and Mom. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I did see a post on FB from Bill and he seems to have an upbeat attitude. I sent him a note to keep his chin up and trust God. I told him that our group was praying for him and Francie.

Please keep cool and inside as much as possible in this horrible heat. We're watering the garden early in the morning and I get in the pool later in the day to workout. The pool does feel awesome with this hot weather. Keep your animals hydrated and inside if possible,

Rusty, I think you love a good debate and know the answer to both your questions, your preacher might run and hide when he sees you coming emoticon
Tricia, I know you are so glad that it's about over with all the doctors for you recent surgery. It sounds like you can do just about anything you want now, just keep doing what you've been doing, it's working!
Have you been enjoying the sunshine and temps? Remember last January and all the ice and cold, let's just enjoy each day we have! emoticon

Hi, I hope everyone is feeling good this week with all this hot weather. Looks like it's going to be worse by next week. I'm thankful that they have allowed me to get in my pool. I've used it for past 2 days to do my afternoon therapy session. I am enjoying this so much.

I go back to the surgeon tomorrow for 8 wk check-up. I think I'll be done with home therapy this week but will continue to do my therapy every day. I am up to 13 minutes on bike and walked 2.5 miles today. Plus 45 minutes in the pool. Nothing strenuous yet but just keep moving. Having done any driving yet. I guess he'll release me to drive but not too sure since it is my right knee about pushing gas & brake yet. Plus still taking pain meds so wouldn't drive yet anyway.

Please keep Francie & Bill in our prayers. I can't imagine how very hard this is for both of them. Praying God will ease their burden and pain.

Sunday our preacher said there will be a day when all wrongs are righted and after service I asked him what he meant. Basically that those who did wrong will receive judgment was what I understood he was talking about after his explanation. Being the devil's advocate, this was not in a group, I suggested we all have sinned but Christians are forgiven and if we are forgiven how are our wrongs to others made right. Someone came up and I changed the topic. Now will he think I am a trouble maker, a troubled member or a person who actually listens to his lengthy sermons?

We weren't promised that life would be wonderful but God did promise us, as His child, that He would be with us in every situation and that is what/who I lean on when times gets rough. We are truly blessed even though we don't know the why of things that happen.

It doesn't take much effort to see how blessed we are. I learned early when I was feeling sorry for myself having to be in a body cast for 4 months and walking to see a friend in Campbell's Clinic that had been in a car wreck after I had been cut out and placed in a walking cast. He was in traction with pins through the leg at several points. The Lord loves us and has a reason for our trials even though I usually can't figure His reasons for the longest.

Hello everyone, hope you had a blessed Sunday. I got a message from Francie this afternoon and she asked me to share it with the group . So here it is.

I get my leg brace with hinge on each side Tuesday morning and Synvisc on Sept 4th. I was supposed to get the Synvisc last Thursday but we didn't get to leave the hospital until that afternoon. I sure hope the brace stabilizes the muscles and ligaments to keep them from turning/twisting/pulling. Hope the Synvisc works too. I'm tired of using walker
Bill really needs lots of prayers. He isn't well at all. He came home with drain tube/bag to help drain the liver since he has a large tumor on his liver. It's on the opposite side from where he had the cancer and surgery last year. It is blocking the bile duct. He had a biopsy last Wednesday and PET scan on Friday. Oncologist said he won't know for certain til get results but he strongly suspects that the gall bladder cancer has reoccurred. We were told last year that it was a rare but aggressive cancer. Oncologist said more surgery is not an option due to having had so many surgeries in that abdominal area last year. He said is treatable with chemo to try to shrink and keep from spreading but not curable. Just praying his pancreas or stomach not involved. The PET scan will show if he has any anywhere else. He stays nauseated a lot and can't eat much without his tummy hurting. That has me very concerned I so dread the chemo because I know it will be much stronger than what he had last year. They hope to shrink the tumor enough to be able to put in a permanent stent in the bile duct and remove the drain tube. Just taking it one day at a time and leaving it in God's hands. I do my crying in private. He will only be 69 in September. I list my dad to prostate cancer when he was 69 in 2000. Bill's grandfather died with stomach cancer. That scares me.

Please pass this info on to the spark team. I just don't have the energy to sit at computer much. It also hurts my leg to sit very long without it elevated. Hope you are doing well.

I didn't know you had 2 sisters living in Jonesboro have a good time. That's why being on a team that's mostly women doesn't bother you emoticon Where are you going to put everything when your wife leaves her condo of many years!? You might need to get a bigger house!

My wife is retiring in December and moving out of the condo and she filled the second bedroom full of her mothers items that she did not put in storage or take to the nursing home. She says we have too much here now. Problems on the horizon.

Tricia, there's not many young ladies these day that sew, much less quilt. How wonderful that she did it by hand! I have one that I did by hand, all the others are mostly machine stitches. I told a friend this morning if she was interested in my stash she could have it all so she was here by 1:30, now I have more room in my spare room, question is, what will I do with it? emoticon Never known a woman yet that couldn't find a use for extra room emoticon

Tricia it is great the rehab you are doing, it will pay GREAT dividends. The knee replacement patients that don't go the extra mile that I have seen have had problems that I have missed and I have more flexibility than they do and several are younger than I am.

I'm so happy that Bill got to go home and that Francie will be able to rest. I know they have a long battle ahead of them and I'll keep them in our prayers for continued strength and healing.

Rusty, I'm glad that Scout is on the mend. I know he likes to walk with you on your journeys. My dog, Lucy is just waiting for when I'm able to go farther than walking around the house. But I got 2 miles in today just around the house & yard and 1.5 miles on the bike. Little more each day.

Martha, my daughter just completed her 1st quilt by hand. It took her over a year piecing it all together and now a cousin is doing the backing & quilting on their machine. I'm very proud of her to persevere and get it completed. I've never been one for crafts. I am getting ready to work on some of my gourds. Not very talented but looking forward to trying.

Praying for everyone's good health.

UH OH, Scout gonna get spoiled! That's a pretty big operation for a dog but I know she is feeling better now.

Bill got to go home today but he has many appointments and chemo to go through. It's so hard sitting in a hospital and you can't get any rest, Francie is really gald to be home but she's a trooper!

I'm going through over 35 years of things to make quilt and sewing tools because I can no longer even see to thread a needle emoticon I sure hope none of you ever get macular degeneration, it robs a person of so many things. A specialist told me I would never get the wet kind, thank the Lord!

Scout had a salivary gland that grew to the point it could hand out the right side of her mouth when we walked. The vet had given an antibiotic but wife felt that something had to be done. There is a 24/7 vet hospital in Memphis that removes cataracts, etc. Local vet didn't do this type surgery and they cut along her throat and removed the gland which had swollen to the size of a cantaloupe. She is fine except she is an outdoor dog rehabbing in a house.

Another update, not looking good, all prayers needed.

New Wednesday Update on Bill: After having plasma all night, his INR level is still 1.7. They were hoping for 1.5. The oncologist and the radiologist who will do the biopsy have decided to go ahead and do the biopsy sometime today. We will most likely go home tomorrow. . He will have a PET scan on Friday. In the meantime , the head of Pallative Care/Pain Management will get him off IV pain med and over on pill form. We will go to the oncologist in a week or two for consultation on biopsy/scan results and to discuss treatment plans. Their first goal is to hopefully shrink the tumor enough to put in a stent so the drain tube can be removed Then, further treatment. Continued caring thoughts and prayers for the days, weeks, and months ahead.

Martha, thank you so much for keeping us updated on Bill and Francie. I am keeping both of them in my thoughts and prayers. I know this is such a difficult time for them both. If you know of anything we can do for them please let us know. Is he in NEA Hospital?

Hope everyone else is doing good. My progress is chugging along. I am doing lots of walking throughout the day and 15-20 minutes a day on the bike (not all at one time). I am very pleased at my progress and looking forward to my trip with my Mom & sisters on Sept. 1st to Panama City, FL.

Monday's update. Please keep praying.

Another Monday update on Bill for all our friends and relatives: The oncologist's NP came by to talk He told us they are ordering 2 units of plasma every 8 hours in order to get his INR lower (blood thicker) with hopes to do the biopsy tomorrow The tumor is 4 cm across, is on the opposite liver lobe from where his cancer was before, and is blocking the lower bile duct. Oncologist has already said more surgery is not an option due to all the surgeries that Bill had last year. Won't know if for sure cancer until the biopsy is done. Depending on that result will determine what the treatment will be. Taking it one day at a time and leaving it in God's hands. He will guide those who are in charge of all the caregiving (doctors, nurses, family, friends, etc). Continued caring thoughts and prayers.

Update on Bill

Sunday update: Bill rested a little bit better last night. The hospital bed is what is hurting his back the worst. PT came and walked him a little bit. He got to start on solid food yesterday but will be NPO tonight after midnight to prepare for biopsy tomorrow. Depending on what time they do that and how it goes will direct whether we go home tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday. We appreciate all the continued caring thoughts and prayers and garner them in the weeks and months to come.

I don't think Francie will have time to update here so I will copy and paste.

Saturday Update: Bill may have rested a tad better last night but is worn out from no real sleep. The hosp. Bed is really hurting his back. He can't turn on his side due to the drain tube. They are giving him pain med thru IV so that is helping. He is not on real solid food yet but is eating and drinking everything they do bring. I needed to come home and do few things plus rest awhile. I'll go back around 1 and be there until they finally dismiss him which is probably Monday or Tuesday They will be doing a biopsy on Monday. So thankful for all the caring thoughts and prayers now and for the things ahead

Praying for Bill that they will be able to help relieve him from all his pain. It has sure been a uphill battle for them both. Please keep us updated on any progress.

I had a pretty rough day yesterday. The main physical therapist came to check my progress and really put me through the ringer. I hurt so much by the time he left but he was so pleased with my progress. I was at 3 degrees on straightening my leg and 118 degrees on bending my leg. He showed me some different stretches for the leg muscles and we did some adjustments on my bike to help with my progress on the bike. I'm up to 8 minutes which is much better than I expected at 1 month after surgery.

Praying for everyone's health and that this heat will break soon so we can enjoy being outside.

Glad all is going well with you Tricia! Hopefully that inflamed spot will not last long. A good church family is the best and a comfort in times of trouble.
Not much going on here, just a slow computer and my daughter will come tonight or tomorrow to see what's wrong, my personal tech emoticon don't know what I would do without her. I got a new upright vacuum cleaner and it sure does clean this carpet, it's amazing how much my other one did not touch! I love Amazon, this was brought right to my door, sometimes I have to go to the post office to pick up a package, uggg!
Looks like the rain has passed us by.

I'm here, I'm here. Haven't been on FB or computer hardly at all. Just quick check ins. Still having quite a bit of pain and to be honest it just sometimes wears me out. I'm walking much more inside & out & made it to 8 minutes on the bike this morning. That was 1.3 miles. Therapist said to try to go up 1 minute a week. Not pushing it. I walked 3152 steps today. Every milestone makes me feel better. I have a small spot on my incision that is red & a little inflamed so we are watching it and treating with Neosporin. No fever or pus so just precautionary procedure.

Happy Belated Anniversary Francie & Bill. I wish you could have spent it dancing under the stars but I am praying that soon both of your health will be better. I hate that Bill is having to go through all these horrible setbacks. I am keeping him on my prayer list. I sure hope the Synvisc helps you out.

Martha, I imagine that you cherish every gift your husband gave you but his love even more. I have only been married to my husband for 13 years but they have truly been the happiest years of my life.

Rusty, I will use any excuse to eat out...lol I am glad that you are pleased with your new pastor. I haven't made it back to church yet but am praying I can get back this next Sunday. My church family has been so wonderful through my surgery & recovery and it helps me so much knowing I can call on any of them and they will be there for me. God has truly blessed me so much.

I will try to get back in the rhythm of getting on each day. This group has been so helpful to me and I am thankful that you are all here.

I don't like meds that make me sleepy either, it just seems like the day is wasted. I think they will do for Bill as quickly as possible, jaundice is something that can't wait! Still praying for both of you, keep us posted. By the way, have you heard from Tricia lately?

I went all day with no pain meds and no muscle relaxer. Yes, I am hurting but they make me sleep the time away. I just can't sleep all the time. I will be taking them early tonight.
Bill's CT scan shows an obstruction in his bile duct. Don't know what it is and won't know until they do a drain procedure and a biopsy. Hopefully, that will be soon before severe infection sets in and he ends up in hospital needing major surgery again. They can the procedure as outpatient if they get to it quickly enough.
I got him a new phone for Anniversary so I am going to get off and get that all set up before bedtime.

Can't tell the muscle relaxers helping much except make me sleep. I've only had 2. Will try to wait til night to take. I hate sleeping the day away. Hope to get the knee brace by Friday and that it helps. Praying for hubby as he has his CT scan this afternoon. Praying no cancer shows up but do hope we see reason why his liver is inflamed and that there is an easy solution to that.

The movie was just ok. Not good enough to recommend. Daughter didn't know.

Thank you Martha. I got muscle relaxers so hoping they help. Daughter brought over a gift basket with a movie(the Butler, based on true story) 2 goblets, large bottle of Rootbeer a bag of buttered popcorn, and box of Whoppers so we could have an anniversary date night at home. She always thinks of things like that.

Lab work showed Bill has a very inflamed liver. CT tomorrow afternoon at 3:15. Amy taking him since I am not supposed to drive. Hoping orthopedic doc will call in a muscle relaxer for me. My muscles from hip down below knee wound up like rubber band. Therapeutic exercises, walking to mailbox and back, and Voltaren gel not helping a bunch.

We have a new hurdle to get over. Bill has had very dark urine for several days. I got him in to see his doc this afternoon. Doc told him he was very jaundiced. It's hard to tell with his Native American complexion. He said the urine is dark because of junk from liver coming through the kidneys. They did blood work and ordered a CT. Hope we find out tomorrow the results and that CT is soon. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
I am still dealing with the medial ligament and hamstring issue. Orthopedic doc told me to not drive unless absolutely necessary due to having to turn/twist on leg getting in and out of car. I got fitted for a leg/knee support brave. They have to order custom made and should be here by the end of the week. The orthopedic doc is going to do Synvisc on my knee on the 14th. I hope and pray it works. Please keep my husband Bill and I both in your thoughts and prayers.

Congrats Bill and Francie, what a great gift he gave you! My hubby and I got gold engraved bands for our 50th, I now treasure both of them. I think when we place God at
the head of our house, we can have a long and full marriage. Just before John got at his worst, he went out and got me a beautiful ring, he told me to remember him whenever I see/wear it, I don't need that because I think of him most of the time.
Rusty, you and your wife have gifted each other by being married over 40 years, not many can do that!
May God continue blessing both of your marriages emoticon

Went to both worship services yesterday. Only took cane yesterday morning. Took walker last night. Made it much easier. Getting ready to go get fitted for a leg/knee support brace. Hope it helps walking easier without me feeling like my whole leg is going to fail me. I'm using the Tens Unit for awhile before I go.

I have call Bill's doc and make an appointment for him. Think he has some kidney issues going on. Have to call his pain management doc. New pain meds not doing him much good. He goes the 20th to begin the new shot treatment.

Son and family are headed back home this morning. Sure wish we had felt better and been able to enjoy doing more with the boys.

Daughter and family are going to take a mini vacation to Destin, FL. They will leave Thursday and come back back next Monday. She did my grocery shopping for me this past Saturday. Her hubby Matt came and mowed yard for us.

Tomorrow is mine and Bill's 42nd anniversary. I said, "Well, we're both moaning and groaning, but at least we're doing it together.". He surprised me with new ring set.

Trying to take less of the hydrocodone. Makes me sleep all the time. Have to go to Medical Necessities Monday to get fitted for a wrap around leg/knee brace that has a sort of hinge to allow bending of knee when walking. I just hope they have one that will fit my big fat leg.
Also hope it helps. Go the 14th to get the Synvisc. Sure praying that helps for sure.
Son-in law came and weed-eated and mowed for us today. Daughter doing my shopping for me today. I emailed and texted her the list. She can access both on her phone so maybe she won't lose at least 1 of them. Need to get back in recliner and use ice pack.

Happy Anniversary, Rusty & Mrs. Rusty. 43 years is awesome in these day & times. Hope you have many more happy years.

Rusty, I am looking forward to the pain free days but know it will take some time to get to that point. I am up to 6 minutes 2 x a day on the bike and walking several times a day throughout the house. Working slowly on walking outside. Went to the mall, dinner & Sam's Club today and was painful after sitting to rest but still not too painful when actually walking. Was swelled when I got home so iced it for 20 minutes, took my pain meds and propping it up. Seems to be better. I was very encouraged by this. My therapist is very pleased with my progress so I keep plugging along.

Francie, I feel so bad for you. I am praying that the meds start to ease your pain & suffering. It just hurts me that you are not getting any relief from meds or shots. Sending healing prayers & thoughts.

It was a wonderful day today and really enjoyed getting out with my family. We had a wonderful dinner at Red Lobster then did some shopping at mall for school clothes. The kids went in opposite directions, my hubby and I hit Bed, Bath & Beyond for a few items, I went to Bath & Body Works and then we found a comfy couch and collected packages as the kids brought them to us. So great that they can shop for themselves & "pay" themselves. Then some shopping at Sam's Club and home. Really had a great day talking and laughing with our kids. Was the best day I've had in a long time.

The pain of surgery will lessen and abate with time. The new knee should be a pleasure. I don't remember the time frame because my knees were killing me due to wear and weight. You have fun ahead if you leap working on flexibility

Sorry I have been MIA so much lately. Still having quite a bit of pain but having more manageable times when not so bad. They have taken my CPM machine away so that cuts out 4 hours of treatment- HURRAY! My exercise sessions take about an hour. Then I walk a lot in the house and up to 5 minutes on the exercise bike. Therapist says best therapy is walking & bike and stretching. I am trying to get outside at least once a day to get used to walking on different terrain. I'm not having to take as much pain meds so that is good.

Francie, I hope that the pain meds help you feel better. I have heard of the Synivisc before. Is that an injection in the knee? Praying that the pain dr can help Bill start to manage his pain better.

Martha, I agree this weather has been awesome. I haven't gotten to enjoy much of it but I did get to walk to my garden yesterday and it felt wonderful. I am enjoying watching all my birds in the yard. I have an Indigo Bunting that has made a nest in a pile of wood and it's fun to watch them .They hop around on the ground like grasshoppers. The males are bright blue and the females are brown with stripes & touch of blue. They chirp a lot. I have some young cardinals that eat in the yard. You can tell they're young because they are not red yet & have brown beaks. I'm becoming quite the bird fancier.

Rusty, missing you in the group.

Francie, I am so sorry for all the pain you are enduring, hope you get some relief soon! Let us know how the new meds are doing for you and Bill. It's sad you couldn't spend the time you wanted with your family, there will be another time when things are better. emoticon emoticon

Pain specialist gave Bill a pain med until he goes back on August 20th for shot treatment.
My orthopedic doc called in pain med for me. Bill went and got a little while ago. I can take every 4 hours but have to eat a little something with it. I have been in worse pain since I got the cortisone and bursa shots than I was before. Pain so bad, I haven't wanted to eat much at all. Orthopedic doc going to get the Synvisc approved by my insurance. I sure hope so because that is a few thousand dollars I think. He said I have good insurance and didn't see a problem. I think he is also going to order a leg/knee brace for me.Haven't heard for sure on that one.If the pain med will just make moving around bearable, I'll be happy for now. I got the wreath done for daughter-in law's birthday. I am putting a painted last name wooden letter on it so waiting for that to dry then hot glue on and it will be done. Going over to daughter's house after supper tonight (hopefully) to have cupcakes and ice cream sundaes so I will take gift to daughter-in law. They will be gone to a wedding Saturday and are leaving Monday to go back home. I wasn't able to take grandsons to Chuck E Cheese yesterday. I hate that because I haven't been able to spend much time with them.

Francie- I hope the pain specialist can help Bill too I am so glad that he doesn't have to wait so long for the specialist that is so lucky they had a cancellation. I hope that you can get in to get the shot in your knee too to relieve the pain. Sounds like you are going to be busy with the paperwork and the wreath too.

Egrammy- hope you get your carpets cleaned in time.

My yeah is that our moving van got to Ohio safely with our family antique items safely. Our children and grandchildren did this for us. A blessing. Now we'll move our furniture from the cabin to our house in CV. Lots to do and clean up. Hope to clean the carpets before it arrives.

I posted a link to SP and then a link to our team.

Bill got a call to come in to the pain specialist Dr. Savu in the morning by 11. They had a cancellation so he doesn't have to wait until Sept. 8th. I sure hope they can help him.

I have one area by knee that is causing me grief. I'm calling the orthoped in the morning and see what he wants to put a bursa shot in that area. I have got to get rid of this pain. I'll also go ahead and get the Synvisc.

Fixing to make turkey burgers for supper. Then, I have to fill out Bill's paperwork for the pain doc. been putting that off.

I also need to finish the wreath I'm doing for daughter-in law's birthday which is Friday.

I do not know of any SP rules against sharing FB sites. If you type in the site we can get on FB and find it. My children can give a more direct method but I still like doing some things the old way.

Enjoyed being with all our children/grandchildren at church and lunch at Ole Hickory yesterday. I received several nice gifts. I did not rest well at all last night. The one area on left side of right leg near the knee has started hurting fiercely and swollen like a gourd. I have to keep off it for couple days and alternate ice/heat. I can't get another bursa shot for several days.
I want to be able to take the 3 grandsons to Chuck E Cheese on Thursday then back here to the house to have homemade cupcakes and ice cream.

enjoyed a Red Egg Party Saturday in LR. They are now called Red Egg and Ginger Parties to be politically correct. Left there and looked at Ford's and then on to Batesville and helped son repair some chairs in the club restaurant .and back home this morning. Watered some Bermuda seed so it should rain soon. Eyes are better and wife will return to work soon and I will have 5 months to prepare for full time chaos in where "things" belong and where they are now.

Hope you had a great birthday, Francie. emoticon Hoping the rib cage pain is better so you could enjoy your birthday lunch.

Yes, Martha, we do have armadillos. My husband had to kill a huge one about a month ago. It was in the yard wandering around during the day. I thought they were nocturnal and not sure about rabies. He put some fence post around it today with rope and hung old cd's from the rope to try to keep them from eating the garden goodies. I have lots of green tomatoes so when they ripen I hope I can make salsa from them. We canned some this weekend that my sister-in-law brought up from Little Rock. Mostly I made labels and was a taste tester...lol

I am feeling much better this weekend. The pain level is much better so less pain pills. The exercise therapy is still painful and she adds a couple more exercises each week. Takes about an hour to do. The motion machine will only be about another week and then I gain 4 more hours in my life...WooHoo. I ventured outside for the 1st time using my walker to go out to my garden. It was so great to be out in the garden despite the horrendous heat. I can go without the walker in the house now so I really like that. I'm going to try to walk more and more each day to strengthen my legs. But I'll be careful to not overdo it.

Shopping on Thursday included getting a big watermelon and hauled it into cart, then hauled it out and into house and into fridge resulted in pulling rib cage gain. Had no choice. Bill can't lift anything that big. A dear friend treated me to a movie and lunch yesterday for my birthday (tomorrow). Today was getting hair cut/styled, going to Target, going to Kroger to finish up my grocery shopping I didn't get on Thursday, getting gas, and to Walgreen's. Needless to say that by the time I got home I was really hurting/ I took 2 Percogesics and it finally kicked in. I just have one area in leg that still hurts. Rib cage is a different story. We're having my birthday lunch with all our kids and grandkids after church tomorrow at Ole Hickory.

Deer eating your garden, that's what happens when you live in the country!
Do you have Armadillos? A while back we met a lady from your area and she said they could sure ruin a yard. Where I used to live we had one that rooted up part of our yard, looked like a pig had rooted it. Not to far from here, a friend had to put a fence around her garden, deer run in herds around her property. They are beautiful till they begin to be pests.
Tricia, it's good to read that you are doing so much better, it won't be long now and you will be able to do all the things you have put on hold.

Feeling stronger each day as I do my therapy. It's still hurts and is tough to get through but when I'm done I feel stronger. I'm looking forward to the day I can say my knee doesn't hurt. I will have the CPM machine another week then I'll be done with it. Not really sure how long I'll have the physical therapist. Maybe another 3 weeks for sure. She says I am doing really well with my recovery and that I basically just need to do the exercises 2 x a day to keep the recuperation process going. Still using the walker , some in the house and always outside.

Spent past 2 days over at my MIL's house watching her, my SIL & step-daughter can peach jam, peach jelly, blackberry jam, spiced peaches & salsa. I provided the peaches for the jam that I bought at the Farmer's Market in Jonesboro last Tuesday. They are so good. They still have pickles to can tomorrow.

It just feels good to be out of the house doing something productive. My hubby is placing fencing around my garden to keep the deer out. Sure hope it helps before they eat it all.

Relief in some area but very sore and hurt in area where he put the 2nd shot. It takes 3-4 and sometimes 6 days for the shots to fully take effect.

I went to Kroger yesterday. I was armed with digital coupons and paper coupons. Saved almost $20. Didn't get all I needed but will go finish tomorrow.
Today, a dear friend treated me to lunch and a movie for my birthday (which is Sunday). I dropped her off at home and then on way home stopped at the farm vendor on East Highland. I got cucumbers, red tomatoes, green tomatoes, and Arkansas peaches. He also had okra, zucchini, yellow squash, green beans, new potatoes, shelled purple hull peas, Vidalia onions, cantaloupe, corn, and watermelon plus home canned jelly and jam, chow chow, and raw honey. I'm just having veggies for supper.

What a beautiful, cool day! I have had the door open since 8:00 and the house takes on the smell of clean sheets hanging out on the clothes line, I think some of you remember that!
Francie, are you feeling some relief?

Rusty, I'm not leaving, just not a leader. As far as the spirit goes, I think very few on SP have that spirit anymore. I don't think it going to be easy finding an active team, been looking and most are like this one or on an inactive list. Things change, people change! emoticon
A storm went though here again yesterday and I was without internet till about 10:30 this morning then my sister and I met a friend for dinner. You don't know how much the computer adds to your life until you don't have it!
As far as this team goes, let's try to keep it going, make some interesting topics, you can do this, you don't have to be a team leader. WE CAN ALL BE LEADERS! emoticon

I fully understand Martha. I wish you well in finding an active team. Why don't you check this one out. There are several on there who are pretty active. They run personal challenges a lot. Don't be mislead by the name. I know you don't need to lose a 100 lbs!!!

My beautiful precious Mom had a great day!! There were 11 contestants in the Wood-Lawn 2014 Beauty Pageant. My Mom won 3rd Alternate!! The winner was a 97 yr old. Everyone remarked about how sweet and beautiful Mom was and about her answers to the interview questions. She received a pink banner, a certificate which I will frame when I go back, and a little beauty queen trophy.

The storm hit there about the time I was leaving my sister's house. I drove to an Exxon station and waited it out in Batesville. I didn't want to be up there on her hill among all those trees with that wind blowing so hard. I got home around 6:30.

I have one spot on my leg that is really sore and hurts but I think is partially from the shot he put in that area. The one he put in the knee cushion seems to already be helping. The one in the knee cushion was cortisone. I don't know the name of the one he put down in the bursa muscle below the knee. He said the reason that muscle/ligament was so sore is due to me limping so much and caused bursitis due to more pressure being put on it. he recommends that I go ahead and do the Synvisc in the knee before the osteo gets any worse. He said that it just might keep me from knee surgery for a long time to come. He also gave me a prescrip for Voltaren Gel. He seems to think it might be better than anything I have already tried. 5 large tubes of it-- $25 so not bad at all.

Our son and family from North Carolina will be here Saturday so I am hoping this leg will be more up to par so I can enjoy being with my grandboys and doing things with them.I want to take all 3 of my grandboys to Chuck ECheese one day and to ASU Museum. They will love that.

Y'all have a restful night.

Things have changed with Spark People over the years, I think most have went to Facebook. Facebook has made lots of internet communities to just bow out because of the competition, 2 or 3 I had belonged to years ago. I'm wanting to lose extra pound so I'm looking for an active team that can help me. I'm taking my name off as a team leader but I will still be here as a member. I hope you all will understand.

What a wonderful idea your MIL had, Tricia, I know you enjoyed being outside, maybe she will do that more often. I know things will get better quickly when you get those staples out!
Francie, you gave you Mom an ideal birthday gift, one she won't forget and one that has given you many good memories. I hope tomorrow brings you relief at last! you deserved a good rest for all the work you had done the last few days.
Rusty, will your wife be going back to work with the Fall semester or is she completely retired at the moment? Hope your last cataract surgery went well and you will have a complete recovery!

Mom's party was a big success. She thoroughly enjoyed it. We had 2 surprise guests for her. Some dear friends we had not seen in about 40 years. We had several who were supposed to come that did not get to for various reasons. We still had 32 there counting Mom. My sister did a gorgeous cake. The food was excellently done and had enough to feed an army. We invited all the staff to come in and get a plate. Several did so. Mom looked so pretty in her new dress I got her. She received almost 80 birthday cards all together. I made a notebook with protector sleeves in it to put all her cards in. She got 1 vase of 2 dozen pink roses, 1 basket of beautiful mixed flowers, and a vase of pink roses and pink glads, and some money which sister will put in her spending account there.

Bill did not get to go. He has been suffering from all kinds of side effects from the Cymbalta so doc is having me back him down off it. Hopefully, the pain management doc, Dr. Savu, can help him when he goes Sept. 8th. Hopefully, he will feel like going when our son and family and I go to see her while they are here.
Our son and family will be here this coming Saturday and go back home on the 5th. We will all celebrate my birthday this next Sunday by having lunch at Ole Hickory after church services.Looking forward to seeing our 2 youngest grandsons!!

I paid dearly for Saturday's festivities. On Thursday, I was getting clothes out of my washer and pulled the upper left rib cage muscle.... again. 3rd time since January. emoticon
So by the time I got back home on Saturday afternoon, I was really sore and hurting. By 6am Sunday morning, I took the last of the Nucynta pills. I didn't get to attend church as a result. In fact, I slept 28 hours minus about 4 hours of getting up, using bathroom at intervals, eating a bite and drinking some water, then right back to sleep. I woke up at 9am this morning. I'm still very sore in rib cage and leg is hurting but feel little more rested. LOL
I called orthoped this morning to see if I could get in before my scheduled time on Thursday. I get to go TOMORROW at 4pm. I just pray the shots work!!!

Mom is in the nursing facility beauty pageant on Wednesday!! First time ever she has ever been in anything like that. The winner will go to a District one!! I told Mom even if she didn't win the crown, she will always be my queen. I'll get a blog written with a few pics of her party on Saturday.

Martha, you're right I should be tracking them. Kind of slacked off on tracking food & exercise. My appetite is still way off. Just not too hungry most days. Plus the therapy sessions are so intense that I feel worn out most of the time. I just grab whatever is close by to eat. Luckily I have lots of fresh fruit & veggies, nuts, cheese to snack on. The church has brought by so much good food and my guys are so happy about that. I wish I felt like eating more of it. But I'm sure my appetite will come back soon.

This evening my Mother-in-law brought her golf cart over and picked me up to take me to their house so I could get outside & walk on their paved driveway. It felt so good to be outside in the fresh air and to walk on some different ground. I can hardly wait till Tuesday when I get the staples out. It's getting itchy and I really want to give it a good scratch...lol

Rusty, I have only peeked at the staples so far. There are quite a few but I could care less about a scar...lol Today was much better- pain was better, energy was better, mood was better and I got a real shower...lol Yes I have showered before today but couldn't quite maneuver it without some pain. Therapist showed us how to get me in & out of shower chair and it helped so much. I got up to 101 degrees on machine and I believe goal is 110 total. My therapist measured my bend and how straight I could get my knee. I feel like I'm getting it straight but it's not. But not bad she said- 4 degrees from flat. I can't decide which exercise I hate the most but top contender is straightening knee & tightening thigh muscle and holding for count of 5. After 15 times it is throbbing. Then I have to bend knee and bring foot as close to butt as possible & hold. I am walking more around my house. I have a little track from living room, kitchen & dining room so it's my Indy track. Made 10 laps today...lol

Francie, I hope your Mom's birthday party went well. Please be sure and post pictures. I'm sure she loved it.

Martha, are you enjoying this cooler weather? I haven't been out in it yet but I want to go out so bad. But I think it's supposed to be warmer this next week.

Rusty, when is your next cataract surgery to be done?

Have a blessed Sunday everyone. emoticon emoticon

Tricia they stapled me back together, you must have very good looking legs that they didn't want a scar! Keep using the machine on bending your knee and don't forget to ice(with water so you don't get frostbite) down after. The icing helped reduce my pain. Just remember the pain now will go away and the pain you had before the replacement will not be there.

I know Martha. It made me hungry just writing about all that. emoticon
I'm taking it easy today and not going anywhere. Everything I have to do is right here at home and can take my time doing it. I'll take 2 Aleves in the morning before I leave at 8am. I'll probably need to take a strong pain pill by Sunday night.

We're having to back Bill off the Cymbalta. It isn't helping his pain much at all and causing all kinds of side effects. he will be off of it by the end of the month. He goes to see a pain specialist on Sept. 8th.

I go see my orthopedic doc next Thursday!! WHOOPEE!!

Y'all take care and have a Fabulous Friday/Wonderful Weekend!

I took 2 Aleves last night when I went to bed so today was not bad. I went to bank, went and got hair done, went to bread store down on E. Matthews. Got buns for $1 a pkg. Pretty fresh, too. I then went to Dollar Tree on Parker and then home.Sister, daughter, and I have been texting each other all day making sure we have bases covered for Mom's party on Saturday. LOL Only thing I have to actually cook is a peach cobbler. Sister made and decorated the cake and some mini cupcakes. Daughter and I are the decorating team. Sister is making the potato salad, baked beans, and cole slaw. She knows how to make them delish and that her very diabetic hubby can eat. My brother is doing the BBQ and smoked chicken. SIL is doing a veggie tray. Some of the other kin folks bringing desserts, fruit, and ice cream. Serving sweet and unsweet tea, reg lemonade and Splenda lemonade, and coffee. I'm going early enough to help Mom get all dolled up before I have to help set up.
Tomorrow is laundry day and tying the fancy eating utensils (clear plastic) in napkins with colored ribbons. I'll be taking plenty of pics. Taking my regular camera. It does better than my phone.

Tricia, it sounds like you are making good progress, keep up the good work and let out a little scream when it's too much to bear, it will help some emoticon of course it might startle you SIL!
Francie, hope you made the day with little problems.

Tricia, so sorry you are still in pain but it sounds like you are making lots of progress. Take care and prayers for healing and recovery.

Martha, I don't take pain meds of any kind unless it is just unbearable because I usually wait and take them a little bit before bed so I can rest better. If I take them during day, can't take more later.

I'm off to get hair done, go to Dollar Tree, go to WalMart, and hopefully home.

Just checking in with everyone before heading to bed. Rough day pain wise today but we added a couple more exercises today so that was to be expected. Therapist said I am doing great and much better than I expected. The Continuous Motion machine is really a great thing. It moves my leg up & down and stretches it much more than I could. When I left the hospital I was at 50 degrees and now I'm at 87 degrees. Your goal is 120 degrees. That is how high your leg goes up.

Some problems with muscle spasms this last couple days. Took a muscle relaxer & walked some and it did help. I'm getting a little stir crazy staying in the house but have had several church visitors and my niece came over today. Not ready to go outside yet because of uneven ground & dogs. But maybe after my stitches are out next week and I feel more steady on my feet.

I feel like I am progressing pretty good in past 8 days. Compared to 1st day of therapy to now it's amazing how much higher I can lift that leg.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll check in as often as I can. Doing 6 hrs a day of therapy wears you out so don't always feel like getting on. But thankful for all prayers.

Rusty, that out of balance feeling between the 2 surgeries is really hard to deal with but it will be so much better for you next week. Some people pop out the lens of their glasses over the first eye that had surgery so you don't get that feeling as much. You are right about weight loss helping in so many ways with our health and physical problems. Many years ago I was
taking a small dose of blood pressure meds but since losing a little weight and watching my diet I no longer need them, that was over 10 years ago.
Francie, why don't you get a head start on the pain and take something before it starts. I know you are looking forward to the weekend, don't overtire yourself.
You all know something, I just can't help being concerned for you all who are going through so much, I probably sound like your Momma at times emoticon

My husband wears the compression socks for diabetics, not because he is a diabetic- he isn't but because he said they are more comfortable.

I'm going to do tomorrow most of what I had planned to do on Friday because they're forecasting 80% thunderstorms on Friday. Must be what has triggered pain again. emoticon
