ANNIESHEART - emoticon you\ for filling us in. I used CBT by myself and got rid of my panic attacks. Just kept talking to myself. When I went to see my doctor he explained what I was using on myself. Now I use it for other problems.

I saw the acupuncturist yesterday morning. We talked about generalized anxiety order and what acupuncture could do for me. It's his experience that while acupuncture works well to relieve symptoms, the best approach is a combination of that with cognitive behavioral therapy. (CBT).

He emphasized that if I went the CBT route, it was important to find someone who specializes in that and does not subscribe to pyscho therapy and meds.

I've given it some thought and done some research, and I'm still in the "I dunno" stage. He did give an acupuncture treatment, which was really relaxing, and asked that I keep track of how long the effect lasted. So far it's been about 26 hours and no anxiety. So that's a positive.

I see him again tomorrow and will let him know what I decide on CBT and/or continuing to see him.

I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your posts.

Any success or "forget it" stories to share regarding CBT???

I keep trying to go to acupuncture for my back. Never have tried it though. Be great if it also worked for anxiety.

I have been going to acupuncture for about 4 months now. I initially started because I wanted to discontinue my medication, and have been going every since. I REALLY do believe it helped the process tremendously. I have been off my medication for three weeks (first time in 13 years). I do have some anxiety creeping back in which I don't like, but I think the acupuncture really does help with alot of it. She also recommended 5htp which I do use on really bad days and it seems to help out as well.

Hi!
I don't know very much about acupuncture, but I have met people who benefited from it. Those I know had it done to pain related issues, but I suspect it had a positive effect on mood as well. I'd be happy to ask them.

I am always interested in alternative medicine or therapy when it can be used so I commend your looking into it.

I'm considering giving acupuncture a try for anxiety and would be interested in hearing about others' experiences or even just your advice/opinions.

Thanks for sharing.
