Waterpixie - I am JUST the same as you. At the moment I am struggling with all the bad stories in the press about things that have happened to people. I am just trying to ween myself from looking at newspapers websites and watching the news to read gossip blogs and food blogs instead and sticking to Sex and the City, Friends and Glee. Also trying to get back to see my CBT therapist as well, she might have some tips\hints. I will keep you posted!

Isn't it funny though how it happens? I never used to worry about stuff like that, I am now seeing these stories and relating them to those "what if..." situations from my past and near misses.

I am also praying a lot more, reading my bible for words and comfort and increasing my vitamin B intake for a natural approach to it.

Are there any others out there who suffer like this?

Very good suggestions! Waterpixie I'm glad you and dh came to a resolution. I think backing away from the news will really help you. Like many have said, I don't have cable anymore. For me it's one of the best things I ever did. I used to obsess watching CNN. Facebook is fun, but some people love drama. I am real careful who I allow as friends and what appears on my page.

Thanks so much girls. Its nice to know that I'm not alone, and that you've all been there, and just decided to not let it be part of your life. I talked to my husband about it last night too, and told him what you girls said, and he agrees. He said if there was something life changing enough going on that I should know about, we will. You'd find out from somewhere, but just for day to day life, I don't need to know every crisis that goes on in the world, it does nothing but stress and worry me when usually it pans out to be nothing that affects us in any way. So I'm going to try to take a break from all that, we watch Big Bang Thoery and Stuff My Dad Says on tv every Thursday and besides that we're going to shut it off and watch stuff online or movies, and just stay away from the news and all that stuff. And I even weeded out my Facebook updates a little. I have a couple of friends who like to post about stuff that gets my anxiety on high so I didn't un add them, but just made it so there facebook status don't pop up in what I see.

Just let what ever goes around happen and do not be effected by it. My husband likes scary, gory bloody movies so i go in another room and watch something funny instead like George Lopez or some sitcom...our mind is our enemy telling us all kinds of crap and it is up to us to filter out the garbage and let the good in...it is not easy but until the next drama unfolds try to ignore any negative thoughts and focus on peace and harmony emoticon

Honestly, I just don't. I can't. Where a lot of people can watch a scary/upsetting story and just let it go (or close to), I can literally OBSESS over it depending on what it is. Like I'll be up thinking about it and I will barely function. (This isn't for every "bad" news stories, just once in a while, but I can't ever predict when it will happen.) So I will read the headlines, but that's kind of it now. And we don't have cable anymmore so I couldn't watch the news even if I wanted to.

I haven't had tv in over two years. :-)

Not only does it save me money but I never have to watch the news. I can watch shows on the Internet through Google video, Hulu and Youtube. We had netflicks but I didn't use it much. :D

Angela-Rose, you are so not alone in your worries. Breath in, out and relax. It might be a good idea to turn off the news for a little while. It sounds extreme, but sometimes extreme measures need to be taken for peace of mind. I'm not saying to never again watch or listen to the news, I'm simply suggesting a little vacation from it. I rarely watch the news anymore because it's disturbing to me and it often gets me really worked up. It's not easy to filter what is truth and what is sensationalism. It takes practice. Your example of the year 2000 is a great example. When you look back you see that it wasn't the disaster it was made out to have been. Perhaps just some self talk to talk yourself down from panic mode when you watch the news. Remind yourself of times when the news was wrong or not nearly what it was played up to be. Mostly don't beat yourself up for feeling panicky about it or not being able to filter at times. We are not perfect and it's okay.

I hope this helps.

How do you watch the media? I find everyone else around me can watch a terrifying story and take away what your supposed to from it, and the scarey side of it, realise how much the media is probably blowing it up. They will say "oh you knwo how the media loves to blow things up for effect, for rating, etc" and I know they do. There has been tons and tons of things the media has gotten me all worked up about and nothing has never happened. A year before the year 2000 I can remember thinking whats the point of doing my school work because theres going to be nothing left after the computers turn over to 2000 :P. And... nothing happened lol. I know theres no point worrying about what I can't change, and that the media loves to blow things up, and people like running with this kind of stuff. I don't, I see it on there facebook status's, on news stories, even the weather network, makes me take panic attacks. Does anyone else have this problem? I mentioned to my husband how I see worry where no one else does and hes like "oooh yeah, you do" but I just don't know how to sort through things and filter stuff like everyone else does, and not take them so "omigosh thats horrible"
