I take Xanax as needed and not everyday. It helps to know that I have it if I need it. Sometimes I do not recognize that I am having anxiety. I think that is so strange. A full blown panic attack for me involves severe jaw pain. The first time it happened I drove myself to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. It has been over two years since I have experienced one with jaw pain. Sometimes my lips go numb. Sometimes I have that "I have to get out of here" feeling. It can be a meeting, in a bar, in the grocery store. You all know what I mean. I would not to afraid to use Xanax. Everything we take we must be aware of the complications.
I understand about not wanting to rely on the xanax too much because it can be addicting. I take a low dose as well and I usually take it when I start to get a headache also. I think if it helps you relax and relieves some of the headache you shouldn't be afraid to take one. I've been taking xanax for over 7 months as needed, and haven't really experienced any problems. There's been times where I've taken it everyday for a few weeks because I was having a lot of anxiety, and then sometimes maybe only once a week. But it's definitely something you'll want to talk with your doctor about and maybe taking another medication to help with the anxiety, and only using the xanax for emergencies might help.
Our lives can change with every breath we take.

I also have terrible anxiety. I took Xanax for awhile but the doctor changed my meds to Lexapro which is for depression and anxiety. I suffer from both. Good luck to you. I hope you get the meds that work for you.

thank you VERY much for replying to my post!!! im so sorry to hear you have some of the same issues as me, sure isnt fun. i have an appt. with my phyc. next week... were going to discuss different meds other than xanax. thank you for the heads up. and yes, i am going to purchase a mouth guard on payday!!! have a great day, hope you too feel better! ((hugs))
Sorry to hear you are struggling so. I don't take xanax, but I have had anxiety about being addicted to it. There is another med similar to that, that is not supposed to be addictive, maybe you could request it. I believe it is of the same line of meds. Regarding TMJ, I grind my teeth real bad, especially if I am having a tough anxiety day. My headaches actually wake me up in the middle of the night. Last night I was awaken with one and it wakes me up out of a dead sleep, with shooting, throbbing pain. I use a mouth guard and it does help, but I was wearing it last night and it didn't, but I had a pretty stressful day yesterday. Goodluck, I hope your head feels better. Have you ever been diagnosed with migraines? Have a better day.
ive had anxiety since i was 18. im now 42... and just when i think i know im ok, and i can handle it.... a panic comes on., and here i am. today is jsut awful!! ive been exsperianceing headaches, and my dr. says its from TMJ (my jaw)... but, then i start to think.. what if this, what if that.... and im currently taking xanax (low dose)... as needed for anxiety, because i went off zoloft over 2 years ago, and have been ok since, handling my anxiety as it comes. BUT... now with the headaches,.. the xanax seems to help my headaches.... but, i dont want to become addicted to xanax, so im paranoid about that... so im trying to NOT take it.... and my headaches are WORSE and my panic/anxiety is horribel.... im at work right now, and im so exausted from panic, ... and my head is killing me! has anyone had any trouble or similar reactions to xanax or panic etc....??? please help.
