He was getting regular medicaid because we were broke. He was self-employed and not making money so we qualified.

He's been able to work a job now (1.5 months). BUT-without meds-he won't be. Vicious Cycle.

I'm not quitting though-got lots of phone calls in to lots of places. Thank you so much for your input.

Hey, what type of medicaid was he getting? Bipolar Disorder is often considered a disability by the social security administration, and if you get approved for it, then at the very least, he can get medicare, which costs about $80/month. There should be a social worker on staff at one of the medical facilities he goes to. I recommend talking to one of them to find out what other options are available. And whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP! Gov't agencies will do their best to wear you down. But don't let them. It took me 3 yrs and a congressman to get my disability payments. It's a lot of work, but you can do it!

I went and got them all filled tonight for the next month, so I know he's at least set for one month. That's a bit better.

He also met with his therapist today and she'll be working with him on a sliding scale so he won't lose that either. He's going to go bi-weekly instead of weekly since she says he's doing well right now.

We're going to make sure to get him in to see his Dr for any needed blood tests, etc before Wednesday to make sure everything is covered.

So I guess things are looking a bit better-for now.

I am sorry to hear about Blue Cross pre existing. Some insurance companies will put you on a 6mos pre existing kind of deal, where after 6mos of being on the insurance they will then cover everything. That is how it was for my sister. Do ask the doctor about generic or other meds similar to that? I would get the list from WalMart and take it to the doctor and maybe he can review it and help that way. Keep working at it. Good Luck

WOW 16...you have your work cut out for you but it can be done...have faith.
Is there anyway the doc could maybe prescribe generic or maybe something that comparable that would be on the $4 meds?

Montell had some kind of prescription help available. Maybe you can find a phone # on the internet.
I get my Zoloft and previous Med's. free from the Health Dept. here in FL. but it was always a form for the particular drug company that I filled out and submitted financial info. and had to be approved. You may be able to look up the drug manufactures online and see if they mention anything. I haven't qualified for medicaid since my son turned 18, even though I am not working I have no dependants. There is help out there, just take a deep breath and start searching!

Thanks everyone. He has an appt with his Dr tomorrow and we're going to get all 16 filled while we can. That will at least buy us one more month of meds.

I've made tons of phone calls today and gotten nowhere. Most of his meds are not on the $4 list or covered under the partnership for prescription assistance programs either. I'll keep trying-if anyone has any other suggestions let me know.

PS-I tried Blue Cross, and it would be $200 month + $20 copay per Rx, and they said that there's a good chance he would be excluded anyone under pre-existing clause. Ugh!

I'm not giving up yet.....

Getting samples from the doc is a GREAT idea...they get tons of them...my doc gave me a 60 day supply once.
Also what about walmart and there $4 meds by chance is he on any of those?
Or what about any kind of medical assistance through your state?

I would check online for medical insurance that you can get for yourself. Blue Cross Blue Shield used to have a program for individuals. I agree about asking the dr for prescripts, maybe he can do 90 day supplies and give you more time, and maybe supplement you with samples they get from med companys of the same meds he takes. Hope that helps.

YIKES! Don't you just love the health care system?! Living here in the UK is interesting too. I just saw a program that explained how some people are getting life saving meds for free and others have to pay just depending on where they live.
Anyway..... I would talk to the doc and see how many prescriptions you can get filled before the dreaded drop in insurance.
That's the only idea I have for now but I'll keep brainstorming. Good Luck

As the title states-I need help. I don't know who to even ask, so I begin in "cyber spark".

My husband (the love of my life) is bipolar and on multiple medications. We finally found that out a few years ago when we were approved for medicaid and he was able to get good drs and treatment. He's doing better now and finally found a good job (but without benefits) and now they are taking the medicaid away in less than 1 week.

So, now he will be without ANY insurance in one week, which means no more Dr checkups, no more therapy appts, and no more medications. I know this is DANGEROUS and he'll end up in big trouble. Any ideas on where to turn? The medication alone will cost us $1600/month which is more than he makes. He's talking of quitting his job just to keep his meds, but I don't really want him to do that.

Needless to say-my anxiety is skyrocketing today!
