Laurie, I am different too!! The things that bother me the most are dirty floors, dirty kitchen, dirty bathrooms. I guess because I don't like things sticking to my feet and if the bathroom and kitchen are dirty, then there are the icky smells. I could tell you stories that would make you think you were normal. HAHA

LOL Lauries,

I am cracking up. I go barefoot, but I can not stand for anything to stick to my feet, yuck. I guess the laundry bothers me so much because I have girls and they let is sit until, I smell it, the dirty towels and such and then I am all over them. I don't like things in the floor, like shoes, blankets, toys, because I do go barefoot and it hurts my feet if I step on them. I can't stand to visit my parents sometimes, because I spend the time cleaning there stuff. LOL THanks for the Support

Wow Julie...that makes me feel so much better!

I grew up in a house where if you went barefoot icky things stuck to your feet, so I have this thing about being barefoot. I can do it in my own house but if one thing sticks to my feet I feel icky. So I usually wear slippers. My kids would make fun of me as they always went barefoot and things didnt stick to their feet because I kept up on my floors!

Laundry doesnt bother me for some reason. Maybe because I do it as soon as I get a basket and with no kids at home I am not doing it all the time.

Dishwashers...I HAVE to wash the dishes because I cannot stand dirty dishes in the dishwasher. My hubby made me PROMISE to use the new one as we have built this new house and he bought a nice quiet one.
Well he is away now and there is just me. It would take days to fill it and I just cant stand to leave things sit.

Icky smells..I am right there with you on that.

Thank you for being different like me! LOL

Laurie,

I totally get that feeling. I grew up in a really, really messy home. Some of things I remember totally gross me out. I can't stand the icky fridge either. Or foul smells. I will find it. If it is there I will sniff it out. I like fresh clean smell. But I lack motivation to do it all, because I have always felt like I could never finish it, or if I did it wouldn't be enough. So I won't, or can't sometimes. I guess I think if I don't start then I don't have to worry about finishing. I don't know, kinda crazy though. I have particulars as well, can't stand public toilets, bad smells, icky fridge, piled laundry, clutter in the floor, and my weirdest (NO BONES IN MEAT) Long story on that one. Anyway, don't feel crazy we are all right there in our own ways. Have a good day.

Good job Becky. I know it feels good to get some things behind you.

I have not been officially diagnosed with OCD either and my oldest daughter has. I do most of the same things she does. She sees someone and is on meds. I have to really keep on eye on mine as I can get really crazy...OK...want to know how crazy? OK, no one knows this, but I got to where I would use my foot to flush the toilet because I didn't want to touch the handle after someone else did. In my OWN HOUSE.
I got it under control but wow, I was really feeling out of balance for a week or 2 on that one!

So I look at you girls that can live in a LIVED IN house and envy you.
I can tell you some crazy OCD stories that I have done. I wonder how much living I have lost with my having to clean all the time.
I am doing better. When all 4 of my kids were home I was a freak and would stay up at night while the kids were asleep and clean so I didn't take time for them in the day, but I was still a wreck.

Yes, I sawed the trees up and moved them to the burn pile. My shoulder is feeling it today!

My house I grew up in always had an icky fridge, AROSEFORC. Mom still does. I have to have an orderly fridge...and my food pantry labels facing out.

OK I better go. You girls are going to really think I am ill.

I am happy today. The house is clean and I am going to finish a quilt for my grandson, Nathan.

I haven't been diagnosed with OCD but I suspect I suffer from it in a mild form as my daughter has been diagnosed. Her's is not the physical (repetitive actions, etc) but 'thought' OCD, that is, she obsesses over something and can't get the thought out of her head. I can relate, as I experience the same thing; however I've managed to 'control' it over the years. She was on meds (effexor) for a couple of years and it helped, but she found the thing that helped most was cognitive therapy with a therapist that specializes in OCD. She went off the meds when she knew she wanted to get pregnant and I was quite worried, but was amazed at how well she did - no episodes at all worth mentioning. Or if she had any, we'd talk about them and she'd say, 'I know it's just my OCD and I'll get past it'. So, baby's born and she has no intention of going back on the meds. I really think the cognitive therapy is a great alternative (or addition to meds).

Izzy~ Joining a band sounds fun. I am glad that you found something that interests you. The group of people you joined sound great and very friendly. I played piano and the clarinet in middle school....I lost my ambitions and quit both when I got into high school. I really wish I hadn't done that. Still would like to do piano again one day.

Julie~ I'm glad you went to your therapy session. Sometimes when we don't think we need it is when we need it most. It's kind of like getting a tune up so that if a crisis does come about, we'll be better able to handle it.

Laurie~ Wow what a job cutting up all that wood. I had to smile when I read about your having to wipe out the refrigerator. I need to do mine, but my fear of touching the germies keep me from doing it....which is so silly because the germies are sure to multiply if I don't wipe it out.

Do you know what I do with dishes that get too dirty or things that are left in the container too long in the fridge? LOL...I throw them out dishes...container and all. I'm too scared to touch the yucky stuff.

Becky~ One thing at a time!! Just how long is today's list? Can you break it into baby steps?

Glad your meds have helped you. I wish my meds helped with the OCD. I guess in some ways they do, but I don't see the results that my dr says I should be seeing from them. Maybe I am too critical of myself to see the results. Not sure.

Everyone hope you have a great evening. I just bought some boxes so I can start packing. I wonder how many days I will have them before I actually begin to pack?

I tried making a list of everything I want to accomplish today and it is a very long list. I hope I didn't put too much on it. We shall see. So, lets see.......The first thing I am off to do is to tidy up the kitchen. I will be back!!

Proud of you too Julie...Of all of us! Ya know we all have our own hills to climb so to speak but we can come here and talk to me another and lift one anothers burdens.
I went walking this morning and saw some trees had fallen over from the high winds. The trunks were only about 3-4 inches. With hubby working out of state I HAD to cut those trees up and haul them off. Bet I burned up some calories on that job! Ugh!

It is weird how OCD makes certain things bother me. Like it is ok for the car to not be so clean, or every drawer doesnt have to be in order. I am not great about keeping the stove top shiny but the fridge has to be wiped out all the time. Weird.

Long as we all feel like we are accomplishing something that we want to, it is a good day.

Have great day all.

Congrats Girls!! It sounds like everyone is getting something done. I am proud of all of you. Becky I am glad the little details are not so bothersome to you. Izzy awesome joining a band that is great. I played the alto saxophone in high school, miss it sometimes. Two loads of laundry, way to go Cynthia. I made it to my counseling appointment early and debated calling and not going, but, I just felt inside I should, although I really couldn't think of anything I wanted to discuss. But, once I got started it went pretty good. I did brag on you guys for all your support and she was happy I was seeking a group therapy if you will. Then I went home had a nice dinner and just relaxed. It was nice. Then when it was time for bed, I was bugged by the clutter in the living and was on my girls about picking up the floor. Once the socks, shoes and flip flops were removed I was much calmer and slept good. Doing okay right now. Proud of you all. emoticon

Laurie, I have been diagnosed with OCD and it is no fun. Luckily I take meds for it otherwise I would be a basket case. I know how it is when you see every little tiny thing. As I have said before it isn't just the obvious things like dishes and laundry that bother me, it is the little rust stain in the toilet, the window screens that need to be popped out and washed, the cupboard that needs to be wiped down and on and on. It used to make me crazy, but now I am somewhat able to deal with it. I did get the grocery shopping done, the trip to the mall done, and several errands done today. Tomorrow I need to do some packing and get some picking up done.

This housecleaning topic is a really interesting one for me cos I'm often overwhelmed (to the point of total inaction) by what 'needs' to be done. The funny thing is that under most circumstances (not counting the present with my son's move, etc) my house looks just fine. I'm so immobilized by small things that need to be done sometimes, though, that I leave them for ages. Why is that? When I finally DO use my 'timer trick' or some other way to get moving, it takes no time and I wonder what it was that kept me from doing whatever it was I'd been avoiding. It's very strange.
On a totally different subject, today I decided to 'push the envelope' a little and went to the first practise with an orchestra (band?) made up almost totally of adult novices. It's so neat! I was a little nervous at first, but everyone there was so friendly and welcoming that I just got right into it. I wanted to play the oboe, but it's a double reed instrument and really kind of hard, so I decided to go with the clarinet and see what develops. I'm really looking forward to this...
Not much sleep last night at my daughter's. The baby's actually wonderful, but you know how it is with first time mums - they're up at every whimper, and she doesn't quite have the breastfeeding technique down yet. And I'm sleeping with my daughter and grandson while son-in-law sleeps in the guest room so that he can function the next day at work. We were pretty 'punchy' at about 4 a.m. but it's still fun.
Later
Izzy
Talk soon.

Awesome Laurie you left a messy spot....even if you do clean it tonight you still let it go for awhile. That is progress.

Becky~ Wow you have really been working at it. Reward yourself with something fun.

Julie~ Good for you for mowing the lawn. That is not a fun task in my book.

Ya'll have been doing so well. I did 2 loads of laundry today. I feel I made progress, but still I have so far to go. I have got to get cleaning and packing for my move. Instead I just ball up with anxiety and sit like a lump. It's too bad my cats and dog can't earn their keep. LOL!!

Have a great evening! Have some fun!!

Oh yes...it is driving me crazy. I cannot promise that shelf will still be messy before I go to bed. I hate this cleaning disease. People tease me that they would like it...but they wouldn't. I see others and wish I could relax like they do and not fret over every little thing.

Thanks....maybe I CAN make it through the night Ugh!

emoticon Becky proud of you. Texasgram a messy spot. Did it drive you crazy? I really don't have a hard time freaking out about messes, but my motivation is lacking, it just seems too much. But, I did mow, I didn't do the fridge, maybe I can make that on happen. Good Job Girls.

Well, AROSEFORC I left a messy spot on my shelf in my closet. Does that count?
I went on a clean a thon today and the place is clean. I am the only one here so it cant get too messy. Hubby is working on a job in Vegas while I am here alone, so it is easy when it is just me!

Becky if I were there I would help you! My OCD has been known to come in handy sometimes!

AROSEFORC - Work went good yesterday. And yep I am back here again today. I have nothing to do but answer the phone. That is almost as bad as having alot to do. Makes the day drag on. But I did accomplish mowing the backyard. emoticon so I feel great about that. Congrats Izzy on the new baby. I know you will enjoy him. Proud of Becky for getting things done. Don't forget to make your to do list and check them off as you do them. That always makes me feel good. Have a great day.

emoticon Yay Becky you sure got a lot done today. Hope you are relaxing this evening. I'm with Izzy practice that deep breathing.

Hi Julie! How was work?

Izzy~ Congrats on baby boy! I am sure he is precious. Enjoy the time with DD and baby.

Laurie~ I challenge you to leave ONE thing out of place for a short period of time. In that time try to relax with deep breathing or a bubble bath. Read a favorite magazine or book. RELAX!! It's ok not have everything in place.

I hope each of you have had a good day. Despite not being online much today I didn't get anything accomplished house work wise. I did however work on it for 30 minutes Sunday. That's a start. Today I did make it to the gym and I got a mile walk in. I feel good in that respect.

I'll see ya'll tomorrow. Nite!

OMAIZZY, congratulations on the new baby!! I am sure you will have fun at your daughter's house even if you are helping her clean. Well, I managed to get my kitchen clean and made my menu/meal lists for camping. Thats it so far. I better get on a roll. The kitchen table is staring at me because it is full of clutter I need to clean off. I just can't get myself to go there yet.

Sometimes I wish I could let my house go. People having a neat house is not always a gift ya know. I worry about mine all the time that I cannot relax in it. I always have to keep it clean and NOTHING can be sitting out where it doesn't belong.
I am trying not to be such a clean freak and I am doing a little better, but just writing about it here, makes me feel like I need to run the vacuum or something!

Ugh!

Nope...not a thing! LOL
My son and his wife and daughter are moving out of my house on Saturday (they've lived with me for 2 years which has been wonderful, but it's time...)so there are boxes piled everywhere and furniture all askew...All I manage to do and care about is keeping my room and study and the kitchen clean and tidy. The rest will have to wait til they're actually outta here!
Tonight I'm heading over to my daughter's (she had a baby boy on Saturday)to stay for a few days and help her out. Unfortunately, her husband only got 3 days off work and she's still needing someone around - and I'm happy to be there! So I'll probably be cleaning up HER house!
Later.

Aren't you glad your in-laws are not staying with you. I know when I have company I am on constant edge with making sure everybody is enjoying thereselves and have everything they need. 20 mins and I am on the road home...WHEW HOO!!

My in-laws aren't staying here. They will just be visiting. They are staying at my sister in laws house. Whew! I am not actually worried about the clean baseboards, but now that you mention it! Just kidding. So far today I have cleaned the kitchen and made my meal menu plan list for camping. So, now what to do? I think I will go eat lunch, throw in a load of laundry and maybe pick up for 5 minutes. Then I will be back!! So, is anyone else getting anything done with me??

OK Becky....deep breath! Remember what we said about the housekeeping - you DON'T need to do it all. Julie's right - make a list, then MAKE yourself work your way down it. It'll feel so good every time you've checked something off - but don't put anything on that list that isn't absolutely necessary. I agree with Julie - get your in-laws' room and bathroom clean. Then do some superficial tidying - you're not doing things like worrying about clean baseboards are you?? I KNOW your house doesn't need the cleaning/tidying you think it does.
One trick I learned from a girlfriend which gets me moving and stops the procrastinating is to set the timer for half an hour and get as much done as possible in that time. Then gigve yourself a little break or treat and set the timer again.
You're going on vacation, you're going to have a good time, now just focus on the absolutely necessary tasks. And keep breathing....
Izzy

I am sure you will do fine. Keep it easy. No stressful cooking. I don't know how your camping, but I try to keep it simple. Lunchmeat sandwhich for lunch. Muffin, bagels or breakfast bars and fruit for breakfast. Dinner I would probably do hotdogs and hamburgers (low fat of course). Maybe plan a evening in town for dinner. One less meal to plan. Have fun.

I got the kitchen clean. Whew! I even cleaned the microwave out and it was a mess! Time for a break. I can't think of everything else that still needs to be done. I have all day, right? I think the next thing I will do is make a menu list of the things we will eat while camping. I hope I can keep on track!

Hi Becky,
I am sorry you are stressin so. I understand. I went to lunch and walked for a bit and read. Something I love to do, but never make time for it. I guess if I were leaving for vacation in a few days I would make a list of things I need to take first. That way I know what I need to wash and pack. I guess then I would make sure whatever room my company is staying in is clean and the bathroom they would use. Then I would probably make sure I have something to feed them, or plan dinner out so I don't have to wash dishes or clean the kitchen after cooking. I then would probably do the living area a once over. Then focus on washing what I need for the trip. I can't even begin sometimes without a list. Its kinda a step 1 step 2. It seems to keep me focused a little more. I hope you kitchen sparkles, keep up the good work. emoticon

Ok, I am going away from this computer until I complete one project. I am having alot of anxiety because we are leaving on vacation in several days and my in-laws are supposed to be here in 2 days. I have packing, planning, cleaning, shopping, to do and I am stressin!! I know I complain alot on here about my housework, but I just need all the motivation I can get and when people write me back it inspires me to keep on trying. So forgive me for complaining. Now, what should I go do for my one project?? I am going away from the computer until my kitchen is tidy. I shall be back! Oh and if you have something to do, you can go away too and let me know how you did!!!!! Becky
