1. Any event that took time to plan beforehand...I tend to do things spur of the moment for that reason

2. Excessive caffeine or any energy drink sends me into panic attacks.

3. Anything with my body- a rash, a bad headache...I always think I'm dying and make the worse of it

4. Trying new foods, vitamins or medications- fear of allergic reaction (see #3, lol)

5. Public speaking, duh!

1 - Heights/flying
2 - Calling people on the phone (especially if I think there might be conflict
3 - Initiating or planning a social event or even a small dinner
4 - Trying to talk to people who are super healthy, or those I deem to be better than me, because I'm afraid they might be disgusted by me.
5 - When I feel I have a lot of responsibilites and can't seem to keep up, or I'm afraid of letting someone down.

From writing that list, it looks like most of my anxiety really comes from anything Social!

I am not new to this team, but I might as well be for as often as I am here---trying to change that by giving different teams different days of the weeks. That should work a lot better for me.
Now, my 5 things:
1. Passing over that threshold to the outside world
2. Not embarrassing myself by falling when I should be standing
3. Going to a lot of work to look nice for my royal hubby and then because we are leaving my hair is soak and wet and so is my neck and face!!
4. Having to change my clothes about 3 times before we leave as they get wet from my attacks.
5. Actually getting in the car and shutting the door and letting us take off----then, I seem to do better---go figure!!

Peace and blessings,
Vicki

Hi, I am new to this team, but the majority of my stressers center around my almost 18 year old daughter.

1) her driving
2) my relationship with her
3) her going away to college next year
4) my fear that I am going to "lose" her in some way

and followed by something different

5) finances/job

Well there are many that stem from lots of things but five are...

1. Money... lack of and needing to pay for something (taking my puppy to the vet, car breaks down).
2. "delaying the inevitable" things I have no control over but have to wait for them to happen... (layoffs, moving to a new place, waiting for a doctor's appt that's a month away...etc.)
3. my health
4. DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR... road rage!!!
5. talking to companies that are cheating me out of my money..."Sprint charging me for purchasing a ring tone I don't have...etc."

These are at the top, and will cause huge panic attacks!

5 things that always make me anxious

1. finances
2. my Asperger's daughter, who is also on the verge of being a teen.
3. the economy
4. why is the store always crowded when I need to shop?
5. OMG, heights! I had to go to our local courthouse last week and wait on a bench just a couple of feet from a 3rd story overlook into the building. I thought I was going to go into a blind panic. Luckily, the people I had with me helped me keep as distracted as possible, then get out quickly when the time came.

Today my anxiety causes:
1) extra-large cup of coffee
2) work--is there enough time?; did I remember to do everything?
3) family--can't we all just get along?
4) work--I am social-avoidant type--causes communication problems in the workplace.
5) the economy--how bad is it going to get? emoticon

Ok five things that give me anxiety.

1.Mainly going somewhere to eat that is new or with friends. I get so anxious I spend most of the meal either running to the bathroom to calm down or just being constantly on edge.

2. Going any longer distance or unfamiliar area by myself. I get lost very easily and have a fear I will never find my way back or worse have a panic attack and not be able to function.

3. getting on a plane, I am scared to death that first I will not make it through the 2 hours waiting period and then to be stuck on that plane and have a panic attack. They would think I was a terrorist or something.

4. It used to be just leaving my house but I was lucky enough to work through that, we got a puppy and I put her needs before mine and extended my world quite a bit.

5. Someone finding out I have anxiety as most of my friends have no clue, I have dealt with this so long and makde excuses for so long that I gues they just think I am a flake.

How I wish I could be normal and I know they say not to say that to fight through it, but some days it is tough to see people just go through their world with no worries or concerns at all. But I guess you have all felt that way at times.

I am glad to be at sprak people and I am hoping this will "Spark" mer to get back into exercise and eating properly.

I DO A LOT OF HOME CARE AND GOINING INTO A HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME MAKES ME VERY ANXIOUS BUT I NEED THE MONEY, SO I SUCK IT UP AND HIT IT HEAD ON BUT WHEN THE DAY IS DONE I MOVE ON. BABY SITTING IS VERY HARD ON DIFFERENT DAYS SOME TIMES IT'S GREAT OTHER DAYS I AM VERY UP TIGHT, IT PASSES BUT IT TAKES TIME. SLEEP DOSN'T COME EASY AND IT DOSN'T LAST MORE THEN A FEW HOURS AT A TIME. 4. WANT TO TALK TO MY CHILDREN BUT NO ONE HAS TIME. 5. WORRY, WORRY, WORRY.

yeah, it takes me a long time to start acting like myself at work. I've been at this job for 6 months and am just now starting to be almost relaxed there. Which sucks because the store manager is a horribly unethical person and screwed me out of money I needed for my mental health, so hopefully I can psych myself up enough to leave the house and go job hunting tomorrow.

in my experience, bosses are more worried about covering their own ass and worrying about all the other dozen or so employees, plus finances, plus trying to impress *their* bosses to nitpick you. Pluuuuuuuuuuuuuus for the first few months of a job you're expected to make mistakes. It's part of learning the job and whatnot. Mistakes are ok. Not learning from those mistakes and continuing to make them is when they'll start watching you carefully. It costs the company a lot of money everytime they fire someone, because they then have to pay someone to do interviews, pay to have background checks and all that, pay to have someone train the new person... all that stuff.

Jivingmonkies-

Thank you for the offer! However, my main work related anxiety is mostly once I have been hired, especially the first six months to a year. It mostly related to my fear of not "living up" to my resume and interview. I always feel like others can see through my confidence. I am always paranoid that my boss is quizzing me or watching me carefully to see if I am qualified/smart/hard working, etc.

Once I get settled at a job, my anxiety lessens to a great degree, it's just dealing with the first year or so.

Thanks again. Glad to hear you're feeling well at your job.

GREAT topic!!! I seem to have a lot in common with everyone as well! Here's what usually gets me going:

1. Hanging out with new people for the first time (or second, third, fourth & fifth!) - I usually will make plans and then immediately regret it & think of different ways to break them.

2. Being around big groups of people, especially people who I think are judging me. Even more anxiety ridden is running into people I knew in high school, or even worse, a GROUP of people from high school. You think i'd be over it by now, considering I'm 23.

3. Giving a "wrong" answer, saying something "stupid", or anything else that is completely embarrassing on hindsight. I often replay conversations and scenarios in my mind over and over and over, which almost always leads to some sort of anxiety, ranging from the jitters to a full blown attack.

4. Making small-talk with strangers!!! Such a big one, apparently the biggest joke of my life is making me appear to be a very open social person, while on the inside I'm screaming!

5. Death. I'm scared I'm about to die, or someone I love is going to die, and that there might be nothing to go to. Maybe there is no heaven, or hell, or anything. Just blankness. I can't get over the fact that I don't know.

CCat123 - I had a hard time getting out there when I was unemployed (heh, for the better part of 2 years due to anxieties). My friend got me a job working with her and just getting out of the house and doing something productive and having people rely on me helped sooooooooooooooo much with my anxieties about everything. You can do this!! I can pretend interview you if that would help boost your confidence.

Jivingmonkies-We have a lot of anxieties in common!
emoticon

Glad to know I am not alone though.

1.) People looking at me-everywhere, but especially when I am eating or grocery shopping or walking on a busy street alone.
2.) Going to gym-especially if I am sweating and my face is getting red from a hard workout. I feel like everyone is staring at me and is thinking how out of shape I am.
3.) Someone already mentioned this- making small talk with people I don't know
4.) This kinda stems from the previous one-when I say something slightly incorrect to someone I can't stop thinking about what I said and I can't sop thinking about how much of an idiot they must think I am
5.) Money. Being recently unemployed, but I procrastinate putting myself out in the job market because I am afraid that employees or employers will see my weaknesses

That was hard to write.

1. When people look at me, especially if I'm talking.
2. Driving makes me very anxious. I've been ran off the road a few times in merge lanes. I get worried that there's like a spy or something who's following me everywhere.
3. Talking to people. I have no idea why I work retail.... If things aren't going like they should, I usually spend my lunch break hiding somewhere trying not to puke and/or crying.
4. Eating makes me very anxious. Especially if someone is watching me eat or commenting on how I'm eating something. I like eating in my room by myself in the middle of the night after everyone's gone to bed.
5. Sleeping scares me. Too many things could go ary while I'm unconcious. I could have a heart attack or a stroke or organ failure or someone could break in and start killing everyone or a tornado will hit or....

Oh, have I reached five already? ;)

1. the phone! I just can't do it. I've hung up on people before because I've gotten too nervous
2. Crowds. People noises drive me nuts. Chomp chew crinkle waaaaahhh ha ha ha... yikes!
3. Small talk. This is where I always screw up. And this is what I always end up thinking about when I try to sleep at night.
4. Driving. Left turns in particular. I try and plan my routes with as few left turns as I can.
5. The unpredictable. Not that I feel I need to be in total control, but I don't like to screw up, and I feel like I do it especially well. Ha... I feel like everyone knows how to do everything, and I'm lacking knowledge in a lot of social settings. I only want to do the 'predictable' things so I don't show my lack of knowledge.

1. Running my theatre company. People work in different ways and sometimes dealing with all their different ways and all the work it creates makes me insanely stressed. Like right now, I want to murder one of our company members. Like, a lot.

2. Money. Always.

3. Feeling embarrassed to go out into the world. There are days when I feel really gross and like everyone is staring at me thinking "ew."

4. Being late. I hate being late for things soo much.

5. My actual job. I have to be "on" all the time, and sometimes... I don't feel like it.

Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Meeting people - socializing where I don't know anyone. Feeling the pressure of having to talk to someone AND having something witty or smart to say. I don't mind crowds (theme parks, concerts, etc.), but if I feel pressured to be sociable (say at a cocktail party for my husband's job), I feel terrible anxiety.

2. Disorganization - stuff all over the place and too many things to do and places to go, and not having a written plan to deal with it all. Usually, I just freeze up and don't do anything, and then feel guilty about having done so little, so I scramble at the end of the day. It's almost like the stages of death. Denial, anger, bargaining, and acceptance. I may be missing one. Psych1000 was a long time ago! LOL

3. Having to ask my husband for help. He is always so busy with his own work, when I ask him to do ANYTHING or remind him of something that he said he was going to do, he gets a sour look on his face, pouts, and either says "later" or does it with hostility.

4. Keeping my kids occupied with fun and educational academics.

5. Making time to exercise. This is the most important thing I can do for myself, but I usually put it last, but only because it takes a lot of time to prepare for and then to resume daily activities.

It has been a while since I've last though about it... but my list today is:

1- The travelling day is coming! (in 15 days...)
2- The travelling day is coming (again. omg!)
3- I still need to sell my car.
4- I still have work to do... my website, for example.
5- Today is my garage sale... everybody is coming here.

I gotta be honest: all good anxieties for today.

I'm with you on running into someone you know and seeing how different you may look now. That's why I think I'm avoiding Facebook now and I never like to post pics of me online. Especially because I used to be a dancer and was always so thin, I can just hear what they'd be saying in their head, "What happened to her!"

2. The thought that I may never finish college (I have attended just 3 semesters total, and I either failed most of my classes or dropped out because I couldn't handle the anxiety)

4. Get togethers/parties where I only know the hosts (I have one of those to go to tomorrow...)
5. I feel a little odd about this one, since so many of you said crowds, but I actually do great in crowds. It's the small intimate settings where there are only a few people around that get to me. I can't go to all the small, local shops and restaurants in my area because of this.

2. School is starting in 10 days! aaaaaaaaaarghh!! LOL.

3. Taking my 2 weakest courses this coming semester. Biology and Government.

4. Money....finances are always a mess!

That's a good one, I'll try and see if it makes me feel better!

1-Being left by the ones I love (specially my BF)
2-Not succeed in my career or...
3-Not being able to handle a job I get.
4-Be lonely in the future
5-Not being able to help my parents with their own issues... even knowing that it's not my responsability.

That really feels good!

Top 3 that are making me anxious now:

1. Finding housing that is affordable and allows pets
2. Money.....never enough.
3. worried about keeping my quit. I quit smoking nearly 4 months ago, but have had cravings this week.

1. Going to the dentist.

2. Having to find a job.

3. Being late for a meeting/class.

4. Thinking I might have forgotten to pay a bill.

5. Meeting with advisers/supervisors when I haven't been up to par and having to explain this to them. -- I HATE IT!!! emoticon For example I'd much rather just hide from my academic adviser when I haven't made progress on my research I'm supposed to be doing! I feel like I can't have a meeting with my superiors unless everything is completely in order.

#5 is probably the worst, because I have a tendency to "disappear" and then people get even more mad at me when they can't even contact me, which makes me want to see them even less, and it turns into a vicious cycle (and not the Harley-Davidson kind)! emoticon I spend far too much time worrying about what other people think of me (and in my mind it's ALWAYS something negative!) And if they don't, then I think well if they REALLY knew me, they would see that I'm really just a fraud inside! I pretend to have it all together/be responsible/motivated etc. But if they only knew!

Phew! emoticon

Well, it's good to get that off my back!

Great thread Becky.

Hmmm 5...let's see.

1. Finances....always a struggle
2. Housework....never ends and I am in the process of moving and need to pack. UGH!
3. My brother in MI. I worry about his mental health and just him getting his basic needs met.
4. School work....though this summer I took off so I'll stress over that later.
5. Asking for help when I need it. I can be assertive sometimes and other times not at all.

Hmmm....well, I can be anxious about anything, if you give me enough time, but here's a short list:
1)My children's future (even though they're both married, with their own children, jobs and homes - go figure!
2)My grandchildren's health - no problems so far!
3)My finances - why??? - I own my own home, cottage and car and have a good govt pension!
4)My health - or rather my inability to get moving on my weight loss
5)My house - I'm in the middle of (partially organized) chaos - will I ever get it back to normal again.
6) I could go on.....
