I'm so glad to have found this thread, i have a terrible time with my anxiety and have done for several years now. Panic attacks are just the worst thing in the world.

Alot more recently i have been telling myself that i am a sane, confident and grounded human being, when things get too scary, and im starting to listen to myself and work through it.

*Hugs anyone out there who has panic attacks!*

It can be terrifying and I've gone to the hospital a few times a year or so ago also. But you have the right idea all the way!!! Meditate, deep breathing, visualization, focusing -- all wonderful ways we can try to control those attacks and feelings!

Anxiety is so scary for me. I have the worst panic attacks and have been in the hospital due to the panic. I woke up in a panic today but it is also because my life is crazy right now. I am working on meditation and trying to be more calm.

Hi everyone. I am sooo glad to find this group. I HATE my anxiety. I feel nervous, dizzy, out of sorts etc. I am seeing a new therapist next week. I am on zoloft now, and I also have chlonopin for an emergency but I have really tried to focus on not taking that. I cant wait to be able to go do things with out worrying again.

Welcome to Sparks, my friend! My family is well-accustomed to my stress and anxiety levels -- as I've had a rather different sort of past few years. Check out my page and my whole intro and you'll see what I mean. A mother's nightmare!! BUT, it's so great that your boyfriend supports you all the way! That is so neat! And, if your Mom is a major stressor for you, can you go to your boyfriend's house, etc., and do your exercising -- or some other activity that you don't have to be at home and something fun you and your boyfriend can do -- like taking walks, going to the park, playing a game of tennis, anything to get you out of the environment that brings on the stress for you?

hi im kinda new to the spark pages. its nice to see a thread like this. i was looking for ways to deal with my anxiety and i think this might help.

I love working out and exercising, which might be a bit different than other people on the spark pages. My issues is my anxiety comming in conflict with that. I hate going to the gym when its busy or different people there. I also dont like going at different times of day. While reading through the topics its nice to know other people have these anxiety issues (my boyfriend doesnt understand it when it affects my gym time). I was working out at home when i was living with my boyfriend, however due to circumstances im back living with my parents temporarly and i feel like im being judged, watched and criticised when exercing at home now as well (my mom is a big source of my anxiety). so its one day at a time

how are family members at understanding your anxiety issues? my boyfriend has been my rock but my mom is s completly different story

I just got out of the hospital on Tuesday just in time for Christmas. My doctor added Trileptal to my medication. Once again we are trying to decrease my Ativan but this time slowly.

For me, I feel so out of control with most things that it makes me feel better about myself when I can control something (like my eating or working out).

Try to concentrate on the good in what you are doing and don't think about what you can't have.

About finding time to exercise, try to do it in small time increments on purpose. I used to get stressed if I didn't work out for 30 minutes, so if I didn't have 30 minutes I wouldn't do it and then I would feel bad about myself. Now I do 10 minutes on my exercise bike and at least I did something.

Good luck and remember you are not alone, there are a whole bunch of us here feeling the same as you and we are here to support you!

maybe that's why my energy is so low sometimes. I am expending all of this energy trying to control everything. I have some OCD tendencies as well. Sometimes I feel like my whole brain is just a little skewed.

I am new to this group. I spent some time reading comments. It was helpful to read others struggles with anxiety. I feel weak and powerless at times with dealing with my anxieties. I have noticed that as I have been eating better my anxiety has gotten worse - mostly due to me not comforting myself with food. It gets frustrating. I try to find other ways to deal with it. I have a real hard time finding time to exercise. I try to find time so I can relax. It helps but when my husband has those busy busy weeks - I struggle more. I have social anxiety and separation anxiety. I border on OCD behaviors but I do my best to manage these. My energy level is lower because of the constant battles to maintain control. I hope to learn from ya'll so that I can continue to deal better with my anxieties and loose my weight. emoticon

HI, I was working on my papers for school and out of the blue I started crying. I had already called my psychiatrist on Friday because I knew something wasn't right. His assistant called me tonight and asked me to come in tomorrow to get a lab slip to get a Depakote level.

completely! especially since I have social phobia, too. So when I am out in public and in the middle of a panic attack, I know the second I get home I won't want to leave again. I get sooo drained that I practically want to just curl into a ball and fall asleep.

She gave me a printout with self-soothing skills using the 5 senses like this:

Vision - Be mindful of each sight that passes in front of you; watch tv; buy a flower to look at; focus on a painting on the wall

Hearing - listen to music; pay attention to sounds around you; call an 800 number to hear a human voice

Smell - use perfume or lotion with a pleasant fragrance; breathe in the air around you

Taste - eat your favorite candy; chew your food slowly, being mindful of the different flavors

Touch - put lotion on your hands; brush your hair; hug someone

She also gave me a printout of some distraction skills and a few of the ones that stood out to me were:

- build an imaginary wall between yourself and the situation
- push the thoughts away and focus on what you are doing now
- count to 10

I have that issue too, I don't want to go to the gym or let anyone see me exercise. So I have an elliptical at home that I use and also the Wii Fit. I haven't used them as much lately since I've been so busy with school but they're my main ways I exercise.

My panic attacks have decreased a lot over the past year, but yesterday at school I had a horrible one that forced me to skip my last class. I made an appt to see my therapist this morning and I talked about it and we talked about different ways of coping with the anxiety at school, so I plan to use some of the techniques she mentioned tomorrow.

I definitely suffer from agoraphobia (I even joined the team for it here on spark!) Deep breathing helps, but I'm certainly not perfect.

Does anyone else have anxiety about going to the gym or walking outdoors? Some days I just do an exercise video inside, or play wii fit because I don't even want anyone to see me. If you have had that experience, how did/do you cope with it?

oh what a topsy turvy world. So now they have called him back to work (laid off for about a week? what is that?) and gave him a raise. These guys he's working for scare me. How is it that they couldn't afford to pay him a week ago and now they can promote him? He has a better title.

A normal woman would feel happy and blessed. So why am I just waiting for the other shoe to drop?

I hate overanalyzing everything.

I'm just jumping in on the chat. I have been on a couple of threads but I have not been really active yet. I thought I would say hello here. I've been in the group a little over a month. I get a lot of anxiety. It sometimes is worse than others but I do take meds and have counseling and work on coping skills. However, I know it is one of the most difficult problems I face because it is a stumbling block for everything else in my life if it is not treated and if I don't get support. I just need to reach out and get myself out there and do things that I wouldn't normally do because of being nervous.

well now that my husband has been laid off I wonder if they would actually help me now! Before they said we made too much money to get any sort of help. Even though if you take into account our bills we have no extra money. But they wouldn't count us repaying student loans! it's so frustrating. they help people who make less than us, but don't have as many bills as we do. So technically, they have more money they we do, but they get the help!

Anyway, lately I have been starving! Even though I'm eating PLENTY of food, I keep feeling like I haven't eaten a thing. I'll eat and instead of feeling satisfied, I feel like I did before I started eating anything. I'm eating things that used to fill me up, some even too much so, but now it's like I have a hollow stomach.

It's annoying, but I'm dealing.

I have acid reflux too. The problem you have I get from time to time. Do you know why you have acid reflux? If you don't I suggest that you see a gastroenterologist. (the kind of doctor who has acid reflux in their specialty.) I have a hiatal hernia.

Has anybody else experienced a sensation of a pill stuck in your chest that won't go down? I have had acid reflux for a long time, and now I have this feeling. I'm not sure if it's anxiety causing this or not? I worry that I've had an acid reflux for so long has it caused a more serious condition.

Most communities have a local mental health clinic where they base your fees on your income. There are also agencies that will do therapy on a sliding scale.

I've always had the problems with depression and OCD, but the anxiety and related problems have only been for the last few years. They have been getting worse and they prevent me from living the life I want to live!

One day I would love to be able to afford a counselor. My husband wants me to see one, but I also have quite a few health problems and I need health insurance to get those worked out.

I just want to feel better emotionally and physically! At least I've gotten my diet and exercise pretty much in control.

Hi, Amber! Great to meet you! I just re-joined today! And I hope we can "attack" those anxiety issues for you before they become more than a touch. I used to have alot of the same feelings and diagnoses! But, don't give up -- you can get over them! Get a super great counselor that you can relate to, find the right medication and keep working on overcoming them one at a time. You can do it and I'm here if you ever want to chit-chat and work through the tough ones with you.

Last week my stepdad died of cancer. I went to Louisiana to be with my mom and go to the funeral. I had to deal with a lot of anxiety both mine and other people's. I take Ativan PRN. It helped a little.

today i am feeling so much better after spending a relaxing weekend with my DH i had yesterday off and had a ME day i can not even tell you the last time i had a me day and it felt wonderful...i had a couple of very wonderful things happen at a time when i felt there could be no good in my world so i am feeling great and my anxiety is back down to a norm for me ....

its been a rough couple of weeks for me and my levels are really high. i always take depression meds daily but i have anxiety meds that i only took when i felt like i was dying or having a heart attack well lately that has been daily so its driving me crazy and then i start to freak over that darn scale and it just starts rolling like a big snowball that is going to plow me down....
