I am a huge fan of Gap's newish athletic line GapFit. I purchased a bunch of items there in the Fall (some pants, long sleeve running shirts, and a light jacket) and love them all. They are also significantly cheaper then some of the big brands like UnderArmor and I find that I like all of the items as much if not better than items I have previously owned from the big expensive brands.

I love my Lululemon stuff for summer time, but agree it is $$$. I only have a pair of their knee length tights (which I love) and a tank.

For winter/cold weather I am a big under armour fan, plus have a lot of nike cold gear. I find great deals on under armour and nike at the end of each season, 50% and more off! I haven't managed to find deals on Lululemon yet.

I plan to try Athleta, have read great reviews.

I agree with the replies below

cotton is not good for wicking away sweat and will weigh you donw, find things like dri - fit.

Lululemon is great but expensive but they last,

Walmart has Danskin workout clothes
Target - has champion

check out ross, marshalls and clearance racks, find good deals there

Walmart has some Danskin stuff for women, but a lot of it is definitely not as good as some other brands. Look for the pants that look like spandex I think they might be called Pro series or something like that. You want the light polyester stuff not the things that just look like regular cotton. Target has C9 running stuff, you just have to be choosy and look for sales and clearance. I frequent places like Marshalls and TJ Maxx, I have picked up some great Nike and Under Armour pieces there for very cheap. I look at the clearance racks at sports stores regularly. I also swear by SmartWool, but they are expensive. I can occasionally get lucky and find a sale or clearance on them. I also ask for them for Christmas!

As Timothy stated, DriFit is good stuff and the price is right.

I'm completely won over by SmartWool socks. They are really incredible. Unfortunately, what you save buying your shirts and shorts at Walmart, you will spend on your SmartWool socks.

Cotton should be avoided unless the alternative is going naked.

Yeah, i agree with timothy, although i don't wear a kilt ;)

I have a running room jacket, so its reflective to keep me safe on those early morning/late night runs... lulu lemon yoga wear is Amazing (but pricey so I only have a couple items from there)
Old Navy has some active wear that i find that comfortable and it has some kind of wicking away action, because i wear that stuff to hot yoga and its great

Anything DriFit works. I get mine at WalMart. It's cheap but it lasts. No it's not Under Armour. And I do have Under Armour.

I wear boxer briefs and I don't have the issue of getting fitted for a good sports bra. But I am wearing poly all the way now.

Cotton is Rotten and should be forgotten.

On really cold runs I have been spotted wearing a wool kilt. Running in a skirt, Tim what's up with that? Well, wool is naturally warm so it keeps me warm in the beginning when I need it but when things warm up, there is the ventilation that only a skirt can provide. I highly recommend a runner's kilt for cold weather gear even to men.

Can anyone recommend particular clothes that are more comfortable/appropriate for long distances. I did a longer walk today and I don't think my cotton sweats are the best idea.
