I just took my double jogger out for the first run of 2013! My kids are 4 and 2. Started using it when the younger one was 6 months. He was big and had good neck control. We started slow and I used to schedule my runs around nap times.

Last summer was full of "color runs." We'd pick a color and count how many things we could see on the run. Or count dogs, or brick houses, or whatever! Today my daughter asked, "what color is it this time?" Running as a family has been so great for us. I hope it is for you too!

I wanted a Bob, but couldn't afford one. We bought a used one and it's been awesome.

my jogging stroller was my sanity for years and years! i don't drive, and had to get my son to therapy every day at the children's centre, even after having my 3rd... my advice: get a BOB! i have the single and just sold my double after 4 years of use. even with a 5 year old and newborn side by side it was a breeze to push, and with the weather shield i could run any weather and the boys were kept snug as bugs. i also have been known to use the ipad to placate my very busy 3 year old who is no longer a fan of the stroller :)

Thanks guys!

Wow could you imagine how fast those runners are without the extra resistance to push wow! I was cheering on my cousin and I was amazed the top half marathoner was pushing a wheel chair with a grown person in it. I am still amazed thinking about it.

That's awesome, that she can run so fast with the stroller! WOW!!!

There's nothing quite like being passed during a race by someone pushing triplets... Twice now, by the same lady. ;)

Congrats and way to set an example early on! I have no advice really but I wanted to say that I ran a race in September where the top woman runner pushed a stroller with two children in it. I thought she was incredible and I told her so. You are too!

First of all, congrats to you!!! I agree with all of that too. I think you can be flexible with the baby's age depending on the car seat attachment or stroller support. A woman in my running group returned with her 2 week old baby in a car seat + stroller and they kicked butt. My boys were born in late fall so I didn't really get out to run with them until spring when they were much sturdier. The winters here are pretty cold and I wasn't up for bundling them up to go running. But we made it a habit when the nicer weather rolled around and they loved the fresh air. We made it part of our routine to go for a walk/run every night before their bedtime. I second the extra weight part. It's much harder to run pushing a stroller so don't be afraid to walk or keep a slower pace. I did a lot of intervals. It's also really important that the stroller tires are well inflated and the handle is at a comfortable height for you. A regular stroller will not do. If you can find a track or bike path, that will be easier than a bumpy sidewalk too.
Enjoy!

I got my twins into the baby jogger for my runs when they were a year, but you can do it much sooner. I just wasn't running again until then. Best advice---buy a good one!! It is worth the investment!!

The jogging stroller saved my sanity when DD was little! When she was little and didn't nap well, I'd toss her in there and we'd go for miles and miles... she'd conk out 20 minutes in, and I just kept going until she woke up.

Invest in a good one -- it'll be your best friend! -- and get the car seat attachment. I think that the general guideline is that they have to be 8 months or so to ride in it unsupported (I waited longer with DD, because she was tiny) so the car seat attachment is well worth it.

Keep in mind that the stroller + car seat + baby really adds up. I swear it counts for both cardio and resistance training! ;) Don't get discouraged when your pace plummets... when you get out to run without the baby, you'll FLY.

I have a BOB stroller and I'm still using it 3 years later (though now I have to bribe DD with new iphone games to get her in there). I've trained her to say "YAY, Mommy!" and "Go, Mommy, go!" at intervals... it's very motivating.

Just wondering if there are any runners here that have run with a stoller? What age was baby when you started running/jogging with them in the stroller? I just had a baby and I am dying to get out running again.
