If you're already fueling with sports gels or drinks, you probably get all the electrolytes you need. I wouldn't try anything new on race day -- no new foods, drinks, or salt tabs. Stick with your current fueling plan, and your body will be very happy!

I don't like gatorade or similar sports drinks. So that will not be raising my electrolytes.

Generally we aren't talking about large doses of salt. Yes I accept it.

If cramping has every bothered you towards the end of your long training runs, you might want to try the salt. I sweat very badly, so I take them - when available.

Sweating *increases* salt concentration. Runners get enough salt through gatorade and equivalent sport drinks. You only need salt if you are hydrating with water or equivalent.

In hot and humid weather when I am sweating a lot, I carry my own NUUN tablets - to help keep the electrolytes in balance.

Races sometimes offer salt tablets during HM and marathons. Is this a good idea?
