I get free disposable clothes from other runners discards. It's the "circle of life". Here's a pic of "shopping" at the discards at Cherry Blossom 10M in DC.

This is one of the fringe benefits of volunteering - runners literally toss perfectly good clothes at your feet. Common not just at the start line but at the water stops too.

Yes, I'm quite happy to toss if I know that the clothes will be donated, but it's not always clear that they will.

Even so, consider it a donation to a homeless shelter.

I get my tossers at Walmart throughout the year. The have DriFit gear for as low as $5.

I think this particular sale is only running for the rest of today (but Old Navy has sales fairly frequently).

I try to do the same. Thanks for sharing. I have had good luck at Walmart for cheap pre-race stuff too. I got 2 pairs gloves for $1.50 and a fleece headband for $3 and a sweatshirt and sweats for about $6 each.

I have sometimes picked up pre-race warm layers at Goodwill or the equivalent for a few dollars, with the idea that if I have to discard the item en route, it won't be the end of the world. But lately I have struck out in being able to find cheap, warm clothes. Maybe it has something to do with living in NYC, where there are 1000s of runners stocking up for the NYC marathon (which has a more restrictive baggage policy this year).

So, while there is a part of me that is horrified by the idea of buying something new and then discarding it, I am nevertheless thrilled that Old Navy online seems to have some awesome deals this week. They have discounted a lot of their fleece clothes and accessories (like gloves) and there is an additional 20% off. I picked up a couple of men's 1/4 zip pullovers for about $9.60 (small for me, medium for my husband), and a few pairs of fleece gloves, hats and headbands. They also have fleece v-neck sweatshirts for women priced at $6.40 (with the 20% discount) and some full zip jackets for about $15. The open V neck might not be ideal for a race, so I might have to keep those for pajamas :) If you spend at least $50, delivery is free (and if you don't like what you ordered you can return it in person to an ON store without having to pay a return fee).

I won't necessarily toss these layers, but at least I won't break the bank if I do. And it's nice to have something cute to wear pre-race.

I also added a few items to my order (for example, glove, hat and scarf combos) from the kid sections to add to the gift packages that I put together for needy families at Christmas.
